Shannon's return to the State Theater in Kalamazoo was awesome! Everyone was able to get a great view despite the General Admission. Shannon's voice is more mature & commanding than ever and she keeps you wondering just what amazing note she will hit next. Her guitar playing is smokin' hot. The band, of course, is great! We love watching the chemistry onstage. The harmonies are beautiful. Justin Kesterson is an extremely talented guitar player and singer and his voice is perfect with hers. Wade Thompson is a very talented bass player and fun to watch him onstage. Paul Thompson is an unbelieveably talented drummer and a joy to watch. They stay and take pictures and sign autographs for every single person that wants one and speak to everyone individually. I'm sure they've won the hearts of many more new fans after last nights performance. If she comes to your area I would highly recommend seeing her live. Her band puts on an incredible performance that, if possible, is even better live than on the cd. You will not be dissappointed! Hopefully some of the video Dave Niemela shot of the concert will be uploaded to YouTube soon! Hope she comes back to our area very soon!

Shannon and her band were outstanding, they rocked the house. Shannon plays the guitar like it is a part of her. It was my first time seeing her, I would totally recommend her and I would definitely go see her again. I bought her new CD before seeing her. Loved the whole night. MJ Kroll was also very good and entertaining. Photos courtesy of Bob Salwasser

Shannon gives her all in performance. The band is terrific, and Shannon does a great job mixing in early songs with more recent songs. Never a disappointing moment.

Very good show. I really enjoyed Angel Blue and Shannon Curfman was everything I expected. I had been looking forward to this show and I wasn't disappointed. She played a ton of songs and it was great. Peter B's was the perfect setting for the show and it didn't cost me a weeks pay to have an enjoyable even. Good food, very reasonable drinks, and I appreciated that.

First, Shannon had two great opening acts. The Angel Blues Band has a guitarist that needs to be seen and heard to be believed! This guy smokes! The singers did a great job as well, singing a mix of their own songs and timeless classics. And then Shannon and her band came on and started to rock. She sang a large collection of songs, some from her new album and many of her past hits. With both her voice and her guitar, Shannon was in the groove! She never fails to give a great performance. Her band was top notch, including a great drummer. It was a fabulous evening for everyone who enjoys rock and blues. Shannon and her friends put on a great show!

Fantastic opening acts--Nancy McKean & the Bluez Machine, Angel Blue Band. Nancy can sing!! Angel Blue-- one of the more entertaining singers around. Phenomenal guitarists in All the bands. & then there's Shannon, a musician who started young & didnt get caught up in the biz, still playing, writing, & performing better than most big acts around. To play & sing as well as she does is a sight to see & hear. Down to earth & easy to talk to. The venue was fantastic, roomy, rustic, clean, great service. easy to get there & back. Will definitely go again.

Shannon Curfman is one of the most unappreciated talents in the Blues industry and in today's music industry at large. Tickets for her shows are extremely affordable and would make a great present for the one you love or for a great night out on the town yourself. Shannon and her band are the nicest people and treat all their fans with a lot of kindness and respect. Go see a show near you soon.

Shannon is a great singer. The show was very loud and if you didn't know the song you really didn't know what she was saying. I would definately see her again though! It was nice that she came out so early after the show ended so that people weren't waiting a long time to see her and have her sign stuff.

Shannon Curfman last played the State Theater in Kalamazoo in the summer of 2000. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. The house was packed, the show was amazing, and my friends and I hung out after the show and met Shannon and the band! Shannon returned to the State for the first time last night and rocked the house again. The house wasn't quite so packed this time, but the crowd was excited and the show was a bit more intimate than 2000. We were able to walk in and sit down front row center. Once Shannon got rolling, the floor area began to fill, so we joined in and easily worked our way right up front. Might be the best "seat" I've had for a show. Shannon was literally close enough to touch for much of the evening. Even better, the sound was OUTSTANDING!!! Really good sound can be very hard to find in some concert halls (it doesn't usually help to be in the front row, either). Whoever runs the board for Shannon is a genius. The drums and bass were distinct from each other, but blended perfectly to set a solid foundation (not just loud, deep thumping). Justin's guitar cut through the mix on rhythm and came alive on lead (amazing tone)! He and Shannon trade guitar roles with ease and have great musical chemistry on stage. Overall all this great music, Shannon's voice was strong and clear. I could actually hear the lyrics in the mix standing right up front. You just don't get great sound like that very often. Shannon is just a flat out amazing singer with a great range and it was amazing to be able to fully appreciate it from the front row. Shannon herself is just great on stage. Her voice and guitar-playing are, of course, much better than they were ten years ago (and they were great then). She's really comfortable on stage, telling stories, talking with the audience, communicating with her band. She basically makes up the set list as she goes and it works out perfectly. Everything is very natural, organic, and authentic. She gives you everything she's got and it comes through beautifully. Easily one of the best concerts, all around, that I've ever seen. Afterward, Shannon and the band signed autographs and chatted with fans. They spend a ton of time with everyone: telling stories, answering questions, taking pictures, signing anything. It's very generous of them to spend that much time with fans. They are all friendly, funny and very authentic people. Justin and Shannon even had guitar picks for me! Shannon is welcome back to the State Theater (or, as far as I'm concerned, anywhere in Michigan) anytime. Ten years will be too long, though. This needs to become a frequent occurence!!! Next time, I will bring everyone I know.

I took my wife Jen, to see Shannon as a delayed birthday gift to the State Theater Friday night. She rocked the house, playing songs from all three of her albums and a few that are not (She Rocked Ted Nugent s Stranglehold !!!). Her covers of Clapton s The Core and Queen s Dragon Attack would have made them proud. Shannon s original music was also well worth the trip. We have been listening to her since 1999 when her debut Loud Guitars, Big Suspicions came out and have been fans but had never had the opportunity to see her live, until Friday night. We drove 2 and a half hours (150 miles) from Mt. Pleasant, MI to see the show and it enjoyed it immensely. We ran into Shannon beforehand, giving us a moment to chat with her, she was extremely gracious and genuine. Shannon, Justin, Wade and Paul were signing CDs and posters after the show, taking the time to make sure all that wanted autographs or a moment to chat were accommodated. I encourage all to go see Shannon and her band on the What You re Getting Into tour. If you re a fan of Johnny Lang s music, I think you would truly enjoy Shannon Curfman. If there was any negitive, it would be, the locally hired sound company didn't punch the voices through quite enough.
