I have intended to see The Chieftains for many years. This time I got a front row seat and thoroughly enjoyed the show. All my expectations of the group were exceeded. And the collection of local guest talents, musicians and dancers, was quite entertaining as well. It was a satisfying evening, pleasant and charming. Don't miss seeing the show if you get a chance.

We have seen The Chieftains several times over the past 5 years. This was the most enjoyable show of them all. The energy of the band and the chemistry was fantastic. Great to hear them play some of the older stuff, too. Great show!

I must admit that I was a little apprehensive that there would be too much instrumental songs but the depth and breath of the musical variation was simply excellent!

Attended the 11Mar09 performance of the Chieftains at Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, Massachusetts. It exceeded all expectations for me having seen them there before as well as my friend from Belfast Ireland who had seen them perform in Ireland many times. We were awestruck by the passion of the Chieftains and their guests ranging from Tennessee, Scotland, Ireland and Canada. We never could have guessed what was going to happen next in terms of variety : Tap dancing, fiddle music, reels, song, bagpipe tattoo, even Irish dancing girls. Even some of the audience got involved in a dance on stage. Wow! Fun for the performers as well as the audience. Wish we could all have as much fun in our work!

Having seen the Chieftans many years ago and appreciated their music, I bought tickets for this event when I first heard of it. I was very pleasantly surprised as the group has grown into outstanding entertainers, mixing their fine instrumental music with dancing, singing and a little light comedy. I would strongly recommend the Chieftans to anyone who has the opportunity to see them.

The amazing talents of the instrumentalists, dancers, and singers is fun to behold for all . A wide variety of tunes and moods- lots of humor - keeps the audience involved. Although the music is strongly Celtic, other genres, like bluegrass, are included. It's a great show for all ages.

Thought the show was great. Involvement of local talent made it better. Interesting use of American history in song selection. Really loved Ry Cooder song and "Wabash Cannonball." And..not a bad seat in the house at Lowell Auditorium.

I have attended their concerts in Ireland and the US for 20 years or more. The Chieftains keep their performances fresh and new each time that I see them. Always surprising. I don't even mind that their "all trad" has been replaced with equally fun and interesting additions. I find that some other Irish music groups are so predictable concert after concert. Not so The Chieftains.

Went to this show expecting to see the Chieftains. Four talented musicians. Ho hum. Got MUCH more with all the unexpected add-ons: pretty dancing girls and lanky women, dancing Canadian brothers, feet going a mile a minute, a very sexy Scottish vocalist in a red corset top and black leather pants, and a marching pipe and drum band. It was a multi-national review of great folk music. Witty commentary from the low-key leader. A 20 minute intermission, and over two solid hours of music. March 17 in NYC should be a show to remember.

This was the first time for my sister and i to see the Chieftains in concert. It was a great concert. I was sick with a sinus headache and was not in the mood to go. Im so glad I went,i would have missed a good night of entertainment. The other singers that they have touring with them and the dances were all lovely. Cant wait for next year to see them again.

I love the Chieftains and was so excited to see them. However, they had so many other people play instead of them that I wondered why the show was headlined by them. I would never have paid $80 to see the other groups and the Chieftains were only on by themselves for a very small portion of the concert time. I think the whole thing was false advertising!

I am a long time Chieftains fan, and do not appreciate paying to see them and then being surprised with Mexican music. There was too much of the Mexican music, one or two songs at most would have been OK, but they were not entertaining. The Mexican dancing was repetitive and boring, the same steps again and again. I will never attend another Chieftains concert. I felt ripped off. I paid for Irish music, not Mexican. Loved the Irish dancers, and the Bagpipe and Drum group was wonderful. I would have loved to have had them on stage longer.

Way too much Mexican music for and Irish group!! Went for Irish music and songs of the Chieftains! Also think our seats should have had a disclosure...got the tickets very early and we sat behind the guy at the "music and light table"!? Was most distracting when he moved and the lights flashed toward us...also...had picked middle seats and had to look around the technician and feel we paid for GOOD seats...were not cheap seats....so not sure what to do next time...to be assured of seats where we can see! Usually not a complainer but was most disappointed with the whole evening....

This matches the definition of a "show". Expecting straightforward, traditional Irish music but get an eclectic variety. Everything from a couple of country songs to bagpipes with an unusual Mexican (tuba, dancers adn accordian!) group. Some beautiful old Irish ballads and a few jigs, gasve us what we wanted, amusingly narrated. The show, however, was far too short.

We loved the energy of the group and the dancers were amazing. The mix of the Mexican musicians and dancers was a nice touch and added to the feeling of an Irish impromptu bring-it-on-out-laddy performance. The musicians are so talented - we'll definitely attend their next performance. Also, before the show, we enjoyed the Guinness and Bushmill's offerings at the bar. Unexpected, but could not pass that up. There were some glitches with the seat assignments though. When my husband and I walked in, the couple seated next to us (Row 13, seats 28 & 30) had the same tickets as someone else who was talking with them. Then, shortly before the show started, a woman came over to us and had the same seat assignment as my husband (Row 13, Seat 34). She was gracious and left to find another seat. If it helps, we had printed out tickets out at home through TicketMaster.

Seeing The Chieftains was an unforgettable event. Being of Irish descent I love the music and culture of Ireland and The Chieftains provided brilliant music, traditional dance, a local pipe and drum corp, a local girl's choir, wisecracking humor and a sense of happiness and elation for the entire audience. I have seldom been to a concert that made everyone feel so wonderful. It was like being at home with a group of old friends enjoying the comradery and uplifting music. I think everyone there left feeling happy and giddy. Definitely a wonderful way to spend an evening!

The Chieftains were outstanding as usual and it was great to see them utilize so much local talent in their show. However, the concert itself was not even 90 minutes in length, including an encore. We drove 90 minutes just to get to the venue and another hour to get home after the show so we spent more time on the road than the Chieftains were on stage. If this was a 'mini' or shortened performance then I wish it would've been advertised as such, to save disappointment.

I expected wonderful music from the Chieftains, but got so much more. I love how they integrated the local talent with their show. They hosted the 2nd Street Pipers, 8 members of the Washington Township Choir, 8 local Irish dancers and at the end, included the entire audience (if they wanted to) in an Irish Jig Congo Line! Beautifully performed. At one point, one of the band member's son and granddaughter joined them on stage. The young girl was so comfortable on stage and so gifted. She didn't look bored for a minute and bobbed her head along with all the music when other soloists played. So glad to also have something very close to home and not have to drive to Philly and pay $25 for parking.

Saturday nite concert at Town Hall demonstrated once again why the Chieftains are the world's premiere Irish music group. From Paddy Mulroney leading the opening number to the clogging throughout the evening to the bag-pipe band that played first on-stage, then in the audience and finally outside the theater and down the block to Times Square, the Chieftains concert was a marvel one of those one-of-a-kind experiences you could never get on any of their excellent cd's.

There's simply no better entertainment event than a Chieftains concert. Led by the masterful Paddy Moloney, The Chieftains 56th Anniversary Concert at Town Hall was a magical and memorable evening. In addition to the music, there was Ottawa, Canada-style step dancing as well as traditional Irish step dancing, courtesy of the Donny Golden School of Irish Dance (which I attended as a child)! If you love traditional Irish music, this is the concert to go to. The music will stay with you long after the concert ends.

1st, The venue itself is nice. Mid sized, old worldy and from what I could make out most seats had a decent view of the stage. Even the back row wasn t too far from the stage. Parking is nearby (same block) and Grand Central just a 5 min walk away. I d have no problem going to The Town Hall again... The Chieftains themselves were excellent as ever. They all seem ageless! Their music is just as I remembered it all the way back to my childhood when they always seemed to be in the background somewhere... Watching Paddy Maloney s hands as they effortlessly fluttered around the uileann pipes left me in awe. They had plenty of extra guests who had kept things fresh with all sorts of talents that expanded the show well beyond the Chieftains music itself: Traditional Irish dancing, tap dancing, solo vocalists, solo harp, a pipe band, a mini choir and a few extra surprises . There was something here for everyone. And all delivered with a sense of humor.. (afterwards the pipe band performed impromptu on the street outside, drawing a crowd large enough to almost block it!) My only complaint was that I felt it could have been a little longer, or have had an intermission so I could have had a drink... (and maybe mic the choir a little better. I felt they were drowned out a bit...) One slight venue problem worth mentioning was that I saw a sign saying no food or beverages allowed in the seating area - so I obeyed and didn't buy a drink to bring to my seat. However when I was seated I saw people around me with drinks in their seats.. Why? Either remove the sign or enforce the rules!

natalie macmaster and donnell leahy , their band ,and their kids absolutely stole the show . from the moment they sent a piper down to the stage from the back , followed by themselves ,they owned this beautiful theater and everyone in it . the energy , passion and love these wonderful musicians have for their craft is infectious . the chieftains are an institution , still playing 55 years later with precision and heart . i liked all the extras they shared their stage with . the step dancers , the soloist , the troupe of young irish dancers , the police bagpipe band , and the wonderful female choir . the encore was over the top , with everyone on stage off stage and just everywhere . i see a lot of live music . but this was a show to remember . i also have to comment on the venue . njpac is a true treasure . it is the most beautiful theatre in nj hands down . the staff is terrific , parking is great , site lines are good , and the acoustics are phenomenal . i have seen multiple shows here , and let me tell you this is a place where everyone brings their A game to .

This was my 3rd time seeing the Chieftains and I'd see them every week if I could. The music ranges from tap your feet to hauntingly touching. There is a soul to this music that can be felt in the rhythms. The Schermerhorn was a great venue and the orchestra added so much to the performance.

All my favorite tunes, with Paddy Maloney leading the way. The band was great, the soloist too. A very enjoyable show, with all the favorite tunes and some less familiar ones, too.

Natalie McMaster & Donnell Leahy were amazing, and it went over the top when their kids joined in, playing the fiddle and dancing!! The Chieftains were also great, as was everyone in the group! So many wonderful and talented musicians!

First the concert was TOO LOUD!! My husband had to take out his hearing aid. The music and performance was lackluster and uninspiring. There was too much jamming and not enough songs. The concert did not run the full two hours. I love dancing but there was too much of the young men from Canada. The lighting was poor. It seemed as if little care was taken and no set up to see what worked for the audience. On the whole the concert was disjointed and not up to par with the Chieftan concerts we have seen in the past. A really big disappointment.

First of all, I love the Chieftains. I love the dancers. I love that they showcase local talent. I have seen them every year that they appear in the Philadelphia area. Last year it was a trip to Princeton in the snow. However, having seen them for many years I have seen the same show each time. Yes, there is some variation in the selections each year, but the patter is the same. The encore is the same. They have been such an innovative group over the years with such musical ability. The show needs a polishing up.

The performance was excellent, the performers were terrific. I particularly liked the integration of local groups. It was sad that so many of the original guys are not with us, but the originals and their replacements carried on the tradition. My only complaint was that the sound in the balcony was too bright, over modulated when vocals were included,

A very good mix of traditional irish music, song and dance. Technical issues with a projector system and microphones were overcome by the talent of the Chieftains and the rest of the crew.

Along with beautiful Irish music and singing, the show featured Irish dancers (some from a local school), a choir (from the local high school) and a bagpipe troop (also local). This was a very entertaining show.

Wow! What a great concert! The Chieftains were very entertaining with their joyful, beautiful music accompanied by very talented singers, Irish step dancers and an awesome duo of tap dancers. My only complaint is the concert didn't go on for hours more...Paddy's commentary was rife with Irish wit. Can't wait til they come back--I'll be there!

First my complaint. I would have liked more vocals. That being said, the instrumentals were excellent and overall the show flew by. The use of local Irish dancers, high school choir members and Philadelphia bagpipe players added a very nice touch to the concert. It was worth seeing and was a nice night out.

Loved the show, complete with bagpipers, step dancers and singers from the local area! Chieftains were wonderful as usual. So sad to see that one of their members has passed away. Never disappointed with any of their concerts. Adds to the upcoming St. Patricks Day celebration.
