With DRB being disbanded for years, this was a concert that had to be witnessed. In my opinion, the tickets were more than reasonable.

If you EVER get the chance to see these guys, don't miss it. Chris Hillman, Herb Peterson and John Jorgenson put on one heck of a show. Just acoustic guitars, a mandolin and voices. No gadgets, no gimmicks. Just pure acoustic music. Great singing, songs and musicianship. Best I've seen. Glad I had a chance to see them on one of their rare FL appearances.

It was an honor to see these legends of the music industry. Chris Hillman was responsible for changing country music and and getting a new generation of young people to accept country music. Definitely one of the biggest influences in my musical journey.

i didn't know much about Desert Rose before their Birchmere performance, but their smooth playing and excellent singing has definitely put them on my "Must See Again" list. Some of the songs were new to me, but many others took me pleasantly and effortlessly back to the 70's.

Watching Chris Hillman and the members of this band play together was a great honor! It took me back a few years, but in the best of ways. This acoustical performance was outstanding in every way, even when poor Chris broke a string on his guitar he stayed on stage and sang with his wonderful voice. Tonight was a treat!

Neither of us had ever heard the Desert Rose Band live, but I was a big Byrds fan and expected that we'd like this band. I WAS RIGHT - we both loved them.

The band sounded great. I enjoyed every minute. The encore was a little short. People wanted more.

Great show with he original line-u of the 80's country band, including: Chris Hillman (Byrds, Flying Burrito Bros.), Herb Peterson (legendary singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist) on acoustic guitars and occasional mandolin, Jaydee Maness on pedal steel (Vince Gill), John Jorgenson (Hellecasters, Elton John) on Twangy Tele. It was a night in guitar heaven with some heavenly vocal harmonies to boot. They burned through most of the Desert Rose Band CD - the only one of several titles available internationally which has been released in the USA. Treats of the night included Herb Peterson's Wait a Minute, famously recorded by the original Seldom Scene in the '70s, their hit One Step Forward, Two Steps Back, and some great solo exchanges between John and Jaydee on Hello Trouble. It was a rare treat to catch this great reunion show as it has been 18 years since the band played last and this was the only local appearance and one of only a handful East of the Mississippi. If they come back around, don't miss 'em.

An 18-year hiatus has not diminished the Desert Rose Band, which performed nearly flawlessly at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia on Saturday night. As always, Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen sang lush, brother-like harmonies, and the instrumental wizardry of multi-instrumentalist John Jorgensen and steel-guitar ace Jay Dee Manes was world class. John's lead singing on the beautiful "If That Be Your Will" made me wonder while this quintessential side-man doesn't step out front more often. The rhythm section of Steve Duncan on drums and Bill Bryson on bass was rock solid. And, as is usually the case, the Birchmere's staff provided clear, well-honed sound. (They could work on the food at bit more, but I digress.) Chris said that the band was not reforming as much as taking an opportunity to once again enjoy playing with each other. That said, I'm sure few would be disappointed if more such reunions, and dare I suggest an album, were in the cards. Thanks guys for a magical night! While there weren t many unused seats, that even one existed is shocking to me. That country singers who can t sing but look nice can fill arenas, while the talent on the display at the Birchmere doesn t gain more attention than it gets, is one of the great unsolved mysteries in my mind. The fans with genuine taste were present, however.
