Riders in the Sky is a wonderful group of talented musicians who have preserved the old west music for over 40 years. Their concert was entertaining, informative, and fun! The venue is perfect for this type of show, we love Scherr Forum theater!

What a wonderful evening. Riders in the Sky's voices were as pleasing in concert as on any CD of theirs I have ever heard over the past 35 years...A wonderful mix of favorites and Christmas Holiday tunes delivered with a mix of tradition and up-to-date humor. I am glad I did not miss this concert and would, again, drive 150 miles to see them....Don't wait so long to come back to our area...and to those of you who did not make it this time, don't miss them when the next chance arises.

Riders In The Sky have been doing it "The Cowboy Way" for 34 years. Their shows never grow old. They put on a awesome show. Great cowboy music, harmony is unbelievable and comedy that is absolutely side splitting. They give you your money's worth that is for sure. They play to the crowd and include the audience in choices of songs. They are true entertainers. Plus after the concert they sign autographs and take pictures with the fans. Very friendly and personable gentlemen. They do what they do for their fans, cause it is The Cowboy Way!

I have been fortunate to have followed Riders in the Sky for 35 years. I loved them when I first saw them, and never tire of their incredible musicianship, down-home entertainment, hilarious comedy, and wholesome keepers-of-the-flame for western/cowboy music. Truly entertaining for all ages, from little kids to folks in their 80s and 90s, and everyone in between. Find THAT in any other sort of entertainment! Good guys too... they come out after the show and stay until everyone has had a chance to shake their hand, say hello, and get posters signed. Riders in the Sky just warms the heart and makes you smile, glad to be alive.

We had a fabulous time at the concert, enjoying both the old classics and a few we didn't know. The boys threw in plenty of comedy and we particularly enjoyed the timely and local humor. It was clear that the audience knew them since we were all able to sing along (when appropriate). Why? Because that's the "cowboy way!"

The group was entertaining and talented, but there was something about the way they sang together that wasn't as pleasant as I expected. I like this type of music and I like hearing groups sing together. However, this group did not blend well and they did very little harmonizing, with almost no base input. It seemed like they always blasted their words into the microphone, and most of the time it seemed like they all sang the same notes....that's not harmonizing. Maybe it was an off night or maybe someone wasn't feeling well, but I certainly have heard much better quartets singing together.

We saw this group 25 years ago in Portland Oregon when we were newlyweds. Saw them again at the King County Fair, and were thrilled to find that they are still entertaining. Thank you Riders in the Sky for a delightful evening. All four of you are amazingly talented. Thanks for sharing that with us.

I have seen Riders in the Sky perform many times before, but this was the first Christmas the Cowboy Way concert. The guys seemed to be a little more inspired by the more intimate and acoustically wonderful University Auditorium, making this event one of the best I have attended.

If you have any passion at all for the old cowboy tunes, then you have to see these guys. In addition to the fun, foot tapping music, they offer good, clean (ok, sometimes corny) comedy. I have now seen them four times in concert spanning over twenty five years and each time I've left the concert knowing they gave it their all and felt like their main goal was to have all the concertgoers leave with a huge smile on their face. Lastly, you will never be embarrassed to take a youngster along with you to the concert since there is absolutely zero profanity.

A great blend of humor, entertainment, and excellent musicianship. I've been a fan for over 20 years and they still put on a fun show for all ages. Thanks to their contribution to Toy Story 2, their talent and real western music will continue to be introduced to new generations. That's the Cowboy Way!

Great music! Sorry there were not more people there to take advantage of two great musical performances. Only negatives came from two men who brought five or six young children to this event. These children were way too young to know how to be quiet and to not kick the seats of those in front of them. When various audience members gave them meaningful looks the men acted like nothing was amiss...such poor and unrespectful behaviors! Finally they did leave during the main set but not before they had irritated a good number of folks and ruined many a good moments of potential listening enjoyment from two fabulous groups. IMHO, Management should have intervened but did not. BTW, I work with children and love them all, but these needed more lessons/maturity before undertaking this type of outing. I was unfamiliar with opening act but I am now a fan!

We took our 12 year old daughter with us to see Riders in the Sky and we all loved the show. The quartet is not only visually entertaining and very funny, but also musically talented. It was a great evening and we would highly recommend RitS to all. After 30 years of touring they can't possibly keep this up for very much longer. See them while you can!

a fine show all the way around. the only problem? a noticeably meager audience turnout. someone at the opera house said attendance was somewhere around 360. and in a facility seating around 1,110, that can't help but stand out. in all honesty, i went as much to see the opening set by chris hillman and herb pedersen as riders in the sky. seemed i was in the minority on that, though. the crowd received the duo politely but responded more vocally to a cover of the buck owens hit "together again" than they did byrds hits like "turn, turn, turn" and "eight miles high." regardless, it was a fine 40 minute set that covered a lot of ground, from pedersen's bluegrass hit "wait a minute" to hillman solo works like "desert rose." the aforementioned byrds tunes took on a fresh western sound within the mandolin/guitar setting, too. vocally, both sounded great with solid, rich tones and terrific harmonzing. the riders were fine as well. the program offered essentially the same set list and jokes that have made up their shows for years. despite that familiarity, it was pretty hard not to get drawn into their cowboy campfire world. songs like "cool water," "texas plains" and even "rawhide" boasted clean, cherry harmonies and joey the cowpolka king's instrumental take on the les paul hit "how high the moon" underscored the light, lyrical nature of group's arrangements. though pretty choreographed in many ways, the riders still possess a sharp wit. when a bat dove down from the vast heights of the opera house stage during the otherwise graceful "the arms of my love," joey added in a bit of the instrumental "batman" tv show theme from the '60s on accordion. all in all, a wonderful evening. wish more folks checked it out, though.

Riders in the Sky put smiles on the faces of young and old alike at the Lexington Opera House with faithful renditions of cowboy classics and funny asides -- all related to their philosophy that straight shooters with a sense of humor are the bedrock of "The Cowboy Way." When was the last time you heard good cowboy yodeling? Ranger Doug Green still hits the high notes. Green, Too Slim, Woody Paul and Joe 'Cowpolka King' were thoroughly entertaining mixing reverence and frivolity. Mention must also be made of the opening act, Chris Hillman and Herb Pederson, longtime collaborators, who played a stirring acoustic set with just mandolin and guitar. I had a smile on my face all night, thanks to all these veteran musicians.

We never miss a Riders in the Sky concert if at all possible. Purchased our tickets last fall before coming to AZ for the winter. But I do wish they would consider updating their show. We've not lucky enough to see them more than about every other year, yet I believe we have seen the same show the last three times. They have so many good songs and they need to put some new one in the show. And as far as I'm concerned, they can leave out the "Woody" part.

Ranger Doug and the Riders In The Sky never fail to entertain - from the youngest to the oldest of fans. The audience, (full attendance), was with them the whole way. Ranger Doug's great singing, yodeling, and impressive rhythm guitar; Too Slim's comedy and solid bass accompanyment; Woody Paul's smooth fiddle work and vocal stylings; with Joey's tasty and spirited accordian playing, made for an afternoon's entertainment, that slid by much too fast. We're already looking forward to their next visit!

Thier blend of music, interaction between each other and the audience was really above average. The ease with which they perform shows the value of 3 decades together, but not a bored with each other or the material interaction. One thing I noticed, however, was they look a lot better on the radio!

Riders in the Sky is an amazing group of 30+ years. If you're looking for a fun evening, this is a "must"!! They are individually amazing musicians, and have a ton of humor in their act - very engaging. Jimmy Buffet says "don't try to describe a KISS concert if you've never seen one". Ditto for Riders! The Riders in the Sky(they are 5 star or more) are on their 40 year anniversary tour. I have been a fan since the late 1980s. Have seen shows every couple of years since then. In this performance they seem to have reached a new level. Better than I remember them from past years. Some of the classic bits still seem fresh and the new material, songs, skits, and general comments are right on, but then that is what we expect, "The Cowboy Way." Happy Trails to them and all fans. "May the horse be with you." The Birchmere is a fine music venue but has dropped as a food establishment. Now charging for water, increased the menu prices and offering less appealing dishes. Some of the old favorites are gone. List price of tickets is upped 50% with added fees.
