I love Maureen McGovern. And this venue is particularly comfortable though the amenities (i.e. the bar) could use improvement. No olives for the martinis... McGovern was in fine voice and we had the bonus of bassist Jay Leonhart, a brilliant and sardonic performer. (I would love to see him in his own show; now we have to travel to Manhattan to see him and his combo.) McGovern limited herself to Christmas songs which was disappointing and she forgot the lyrics to several songs, having to start again. She mentioned that it was like being in her living room which it was; my wife was very annoyed at the lapses while I enjoyed the informality. It was abit strange that she asked the audience for the lyrics...oy. Regardless, when (and if) McGovern comes back next year, we'll be there.

Ms McGovern was in wonderful voice! Clad in an outfit that sparkled, she welcomed us with both old favorites and quite a bit of new material. Although much of the concert was derived from her Christmas album (one of my favorites!) she presented some witty new material, including transcriptions of pieces that had been presented on "A Prairie Home Companion." These were especially fresh and funny. Of course, she concluded with an audience favorite (A Morning After - how could she not?!?!). Ms McGovern was ably supported by her long-time colleagues, Jay Leonhart (bassist) and Jeff Harris (her music director, arranger, and sometime composer.) It was a special delight to hear her version of "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town", complete with Mr. Leonhart's ad-libs and asides. This was always one of my favorites from her Christmas album, and it was a treat to hear it sung live. And Mr. Harris has been working with Ms McGovern for over two decades. Their musical relationship is extraordinary. It was a pleasure and a joy to see her in this beautiful venue. She is quite fond of the Events gallery at Bethel Woods, and she expressed a desire to return to sing there again. This was her second appearance at Bethel Woods, the first having been in September 2013. We hope she returns again and again.

Maureen McGovern didn't just sing- she related. Her patter was funny and informative, and it helped shape the evening as a whole. Here's what was so great: she "came to us." She didn't just sing a whole bunch of songs that she's been doing for years. It felt like she took stock of Woodstock and where she was, and who we were as an audience. She and Jeff Harris then created an evening of material that made us feel important. She related to her past while relating it to OUR past. She also talked about the future. She presented songs from an upcoming piece that she and Jeff are co-creating, and this section allowed her to show some sides of herself as an artist that I had not seen before. I have followed Ms McGovern's work for years, and I count myself among her loyal fans. This evening was sublime, and I look forward to seeing and hearing her again and again. As she herself said, she's 64, and 70 is the new 50.

An intimate evening with Maureen McGovern was one of the best nights of enetertainment I have ever attended. Ms. McGovern has one of the best voices in the music industry today. Her ability to use her voice as a musical instrument is truly a God given talent. My wife and I were in awe of her ability to make the audience feel as if they were her close friends.

What can I say Maureen McGovern has an amazing voice. The concert "A Long and Winding Road"(available on CD) was truely a walk down memory lane for Baby Boomers. If you ever get a chance to attend one of her concerts please do so. She is in a class of her own where her vocal techique is concerned. She really understands the Cabaret world and brings out the best in it. And yes, she sang The Morning After. It was beautiful! Thanks Maureen! p.s. Oh yes, she's very funny too.
