He may be pushing 93, but the man still has beautiful playing! Anoushka was also incredible...Her playing sounds stronger than his at this point, due to his age, but he has extreme depth on his side. Tanmoy Bose and the Mridangam player also put on a stellar performance! Bose did a fun little solo on his face at one point, and they had a high energy tabla/mridangam duet in the last piece....I can honestly say there was not a single point that my attention wavered over the course of the concert, I was absorbed the entire time, whether just letting the music wash over me, or trying to keep tala. This concert was probably even better than when I saw them in Delhi almost 3 years ago. If you have not seen Ravi and Anoushka play, I suggest you do so.

Ravi will always be a Special person and sitarist in my heart! His daughter Anouska is amazing and has been handed the torch from her Father. Bless them Both and Thank You to All the musicians in Ravi's circle, and the Shankar Family!

A lovely concert event. Mr. Shankar's half of the program was preceded by his daughter's, (Anoushka Shankar) sitar playing, which was also quite enjoyable. Although he is 91 years old and has been facing health problems, it was much appreciated that Mr. Shankar made such an effort to please his fans by playing some well-known pieces. He can still move his fingers along his instrument with impressive dexterity and control, and though he no longer has the stamina to play completely solo or play very fast-paced compositions, his playing is still beautiful and moving. The accompanying instrumentalists were also wonderful, and they deserve equal credit. Minus one star because the show started 15+ minutes late, likely due to the venue's slack late-arrival policies. Latecomers were streaming in up until half an hour after the show was supposed to have started (7:30pm), which presented a distraction. The intermission was also 20-25 minutes long, which was excessive. But perhaps this was also in part due to escorting the aged Mr. Shankar to the theater. Regardless, better organization and time management regarding run times of shows is necessary if this is the norm at the LBTT. The only other nit-picky observation I made was that Anoushka's sitar playing at times drowned out the sound of Mr. Shankar's. Perhaps the acoustic apparatus amplifying Mr. Shankar's sitar was not as powerful or not set up properly, but it would have been nice to hear his playing more clearly, especially during the duets/ensemble-playing parts of the performance. But overall, an enjoyable evening that lived up to most of my expectations.

Anoushka Shankar was not really the opening act. An amazing performer that I had been wanting to see in person for a very long time. Since I heard her work on the "Traveller". But with someone like Ravi Shankar following, pretty much anyone would just be an opening act. Her accompaniment to her father's Sitar was very well done. The chemistry, witty banter that went on between the father and daughter were a joy to watch I had not seen Pundit Ravi Shankar's photos in a long time so the only image I have of him is that attached to this ticketmaster event. To see this 92 year old man wheeled in, with supplimental oxygen was a shock, to say the least. I was not prepared. When he spoke haltingly, with labored breath, I was touched. This event had once been postponed because of this health. His student tuned his sitar after each song. Pundit Ravi Shankar could not pluck the string and stretch his other arm to the tuning peg, it seemed like. Each of his song began with the seemingly hesitating simplistic melodies. But then many (if not most) Sitar music is like that. I almost thought I heard a few "strange notes". But then what do I know!? Nonetheless as each raaga progressed, the tables, Anoshka's sitar joined Ravi Shankar's sitar is an amazing crescendo of intricate compositions that the Pundit had woven for decades. The whole performance was not too long. 4 long songs by Anoushka before the intermission. 4 (or perhaps 5) after the intermission. The last one included the tabla and mridangam maestros in an amazingly interesting, fast paced, medley that was such a joy to watch. I bought a CD of traveller for myself but by the time returned to buy one for my friend they were out :( Wish they had more. Loved it!

Ravi was accompanied by his daughter, Anoushka, also on sitar, and musicians on the tablas, flute, tanpura (droning cello type thing) and mridangam (long hand drum) (yes, I had to Google those last two . . .). All were seated on raised daises arranged around Ravi and Anoushka. Anoushka and the other musicians played a 30+ minute set ending in an intermission. Really enjoyable set; beautiful music. I have zero understanding of the musical form, but it didn t matter. She has a presence and grace about herself that is discernible even from out in the audience. Ravi, now 92, was assisted onto the stage in a wheelchair after intermission. He said a few words which were a little difficult to follow and appeared a somewhat infirm. That all changed, however, when he picked up the sitar and began to play. He became a completely different person. He was infused with energy—literally as if someone flipped an on switch. He may have lost some speed, but he can still play the hell out of the instrument. I expected him to play 30, maybe 45, minutes; I think it ended up close to 90 minutes, maybe more. The last raga was a rollicking affair, with each musician taking extended solos and Ravi directing the whole thing, and clearly enjoying himself. He stood on his own with Anoushka at his elbow and addressed the crowd at the end; voice was now strong and clear. Pretty sure I ve never seen such an enthusiastic—not to mention reverential and emotional—ovation from an audience. A very inspiring evening.

I was a little concerned that at age 92 Ravi Shankar might have lost some coordination. But he was incredible. And his daughter Anoushka was as well. A mesmerizing night of music.

What an amazing performance. At age 92, Ravi Shankar performed beside her daughter Anousha Shankar and it was such an honor being in their presence.

It was a very wonderful show, but my husband and I truly missed his daughter's presents at the event. We came all the way from LA to see her. We heard she got sick and that is why she did not perform. Blessings and prayers for a speedy recovery. We love your music so much, Anoushka. We wished that they would of announced why you were not there. Thank you for a wonderful evening of cultural and music. Peace and Love, Shungi and Family

Anoushka Shankar was a no show and she was the headliner for the first half. Tthings happen of course, but they pretty much canceled the first half of the concert. One song with the flu and drummer, then the intermission. I would assume they could have a back-up sitarist ? Can't some the of the others play a couple of songs as give us a first-half ??. The second half was good. Ravi Shankar did perform. He a great job as expected. All in all, it gets an average review overall, since they had no plan for the first half. The second half was memorable.

It may have been because Anoushka Shankar was ill and didn't perform as billed, but the the first set was only a flute and drum combo that lasted about 10-15 min. and then a 20 intermission was called. Where was Ravi that 1st set? Anyway, Ravi made up for lost time, played a beautiful and transcendant hour and 1/2.

Ravi Shankar and his musicians were mind-blowing. The Arlington venue was superb (indoors but set to emulate an outdoor village stage with an open night sky above.) To anyone who thinks Ravi Shankar is dead, hear this geriatric play. He's still got it. The throatist was phenomenal as well. I nearly cried when it was announced that Anoushka Shankar was ill and would not perform, as she is the most beautiful human being on the planet, but the concert was so powerful as it was that it was not a problem. The one negative, ridiculous aspect was the audience, or at least what the Arlington permitted the audience to do, which was constantly filter in late and bumble about while these legendary musicians were playing their hearts out--and get this--eating and splurching on Icees and popcorns! What stupid Americans are we, that we go to a Ravi Shankar concert and order supersize popcorn and Big Gulps. Wow, right? This aside, bottom line, MIND-BLOWING. Highly recommended that you catch Ravi before he is too old to continue performing.
