Blue Rodeo

Blue Rodeo

Canadian roots rock mainstay Blue Rodeo has been sending fans \"Head Over Heels\" with their country-tinged sound and lighters-in-the-air concerts for more than three decades. The group has won a dozen Juno Awards in their home country, and they've earned a global fanbase with their approachable sound and unforgettable live performances. They've been called one of Canada's best live bands, and it's easy to see why as co-vocalists Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor tag team anthemic favorites like \"Lost Together\" and \"5 Days in May\". Fans looking to catch up with with these veteran rockers won't want to miss them any time they perform favorites from their dec.

At first I thought they seemed kind of tired but it didn't take long for them to get into it. I was super impressed with gregs voice. And Jim always sounds great.

Absolutely phenomenal !!! Surprised my wife w/tickets for her B-Day Perhaps it's an "Ol'Skool" approach, but it's certainly beneficial to actually connect with someone "LIVE" from Ticket Master. The time, patience, & consideration they showed...was truly superb. KUDO's & THX ! Cheers

The opening act was terrific. Usually, opening acts are a waste of time. Devin Cuddy, however could steal whole the show someday. The upcoming generation has a musician to grow old with, too. The whole show was good. There were some mixing board sound issues early on which got better. The. Orpheum is a challenging venue, acoustically, for really loud music anyway.

The venue is small which is wonderful so you have a nice, intimate experience with friends and the band. Also of great interest were the two warm up act: Eleanor Whitemore and I am sorry to say I did not get the name of the other wonderful young woman who did country rock, Rodeo was terrific with a few old favorites and lots of their new stuff. At one point, the lead the crowd with an acapella version of "say that your leaving....well it comes as no surprise..." etc. Loved the experience, the setting and ambiance.

Blue Rodeo was AWESOME!!!! One of the best concerts I have ever been to (re: small venue; energy of the crowd; band quality). I with they played more US shows! I currently live in San Francisco and would love to see them there soon.

Blue Rodeo didn't disappoint. The band started right on time and played 1&1/2 hours of old favourites and some great new tunes destined to be hits. The encore was amazing with 3 of my favourites to leave the fair on a high note. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the entire performance. It makes you proud to be Canadian listening to the talent of Blue Rodeo. Thanks for the Awesome concert guys!

Have gone to many Blue Rodeo concerts in Ontario and this one rates at the top. First they announced that they would be singing six songs from their new CD that's coming out shortly. Can't wait!!!!!! The music is sooooo different than we are accustomed to. As well, they continued to sing songs from all their albums! I think the amazing thing about the whole concert was....the second encore performance was so electrifying... it left you wanting a third and fourth and made you sing the songs on the way home and talk about the concert to others.

It's always great to see Blue Rodeo play at Malkin Bowl. The outdoor venue makes for a relaxing event while chilling on the grass with friends and watching my favourite band! The sound was excellent and even though we were far away, you could see them and definitely hear their fantastic music. Great show and I will go back, rain or shine, every year they come back!

These guys are a simply amazing show to behold. They seem to get better with age. From the opening bell they were flawless in both delivery and presentation. They play so tight that most times you would swear you were listening to a recording. The Banff Center is one of the best places to see an act like Blue Rodeo. The location could not be more perfect with the mountain backdrop and the excellent seating of the new Shaw Amphitheater. I found this to have been one of the most personal shows I have ever attended. This is a must see event for even the most casual of Blue Rodeo fans.

We were very much looking forward to the show. It was my wife's first time in Toronto, and her first exposure to Blue Rodeo. Unfortunately, the sound was perhaps the worst mix I've heard in 30+ years of attending live shows. The vocals were predominantly incomprehensible - and that completely ruined the evening. We were sitting just to the west of the board - which really made us wonder just what the sound staff was monitoring - it apparently wasn't the same as what we were hearing. Numerous others noticed and commented on the sound as well, and likely accounted for those we saw leaving throughout the show. We hoped the mix would improve. It didn't. We paid $100 each for our tickets. We left early. That says it all. I'm certain that Blue Rodeo and Steve Earle both put on fantastic live shows. It's a shame they were provided with an absolutely horrid sound job this night. Both Blue Rodeo and Steve Earle deserved better.

I have seen Blue Rodeo 6 times now and I think they are getting better evey time. Started with It hasn't Hit Me Yet, which got the crowd singing. The crowd did not stop singing the whole concert. Love that the band still likes what they are doing and it shows. Everyone had a great time and if they didn't it was there own falt. Fans were still singing all they way through the parking lot on the way home...

The concert was amazing - as was expected. I did have a few concerns with the venue. I was in the last row of the seats and was disappointed to learn that smoking was allowed in the walkway between the seats and the lawn. I was also shocked that SOME fans were rude enough to hold up umbrellas and block our view (despite being asked not to). I can't blame Blue Rodeo and I would see them again any time.

A beautiful night in Vancouver BC's Stanley Park. The sweet sounds of a class act. Blue Rodeo. Excellent musicians , all. Front men Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor lay down some sweet harmonies, playing off each other in a way that takes years and chemistry to achieve. I left the show wondering "why aren't these guys more widely acclaimed"?

Way too much new stuff which was OK but just way too many classic missed altogether. First time I've seen Blue Rodeo and was very excited. How can you have a Blue Rodeo concert though and just not play songs like Diamond Mine and Rose Coloured Glasses. Very odd - very disappointing. I hate concerts where bands play what they want to play instead of what people who paid for tickets want to hear. When I go to a concert I want to be entertained - not promoted to. I wonder how many people at the concert would vote to hear "Keep The Darkness Out" instead of "Rose Coloured Glasses". Unfortunately I would not go again.

The Fairhaven in Bellingham is a great venue. These guys have a lot of good material including their new two disk release. They played for only 1.5 hours and seemed tired. I would have preferred hearing another four or more songs from their earlier material and playing for at least two hours. I liked that they did not talk and just played. As Zappa said, "shut up and play your guitar." Nice job BR. Overall worth the trip up and the cost of the hotel. - A Seattle Fan

I think the band was a wee bit tired at first, but slowly and steadily warmed to the enthusiastic audience which most certainly had a large component of ex-patriates. We had not seen Blue Rodeo live since Massey Hall 20 years ago, so it was a treat to see them once again and be reminded of how much superb music they have created. I hope they return to Seattle soon, maybe Meany Hall at UW? Please say yes, Blue Rodeo!

We just wanted to thank Blue Rodeo for playing New York on this tour. This concert was, bar none, the best we've ever been to. The play list was balanced between their "standards" and the new material but they maintained an emotional connection with the audience throughout. My wife and I both had tears in our eyes during "5 Days in May" not least because of Anne Lindsay's marvellous violin solo. The audience kept asking for "Lost Together" throughout the evening. It served as fore-shadowing since that ended up being the finale. It was a visual and aural culmination as every band member was onstage singing their hearts out.

Band seemed energized by the crowd. Barrie Molson Centre is a nice venue for events of this size. Good sound! The band was not too loud. With that, there was little distortion, except when Greg Keelor intended! The set list was heavy on the new album. But the band chose what I believe are the best songs from that double set. There was an emphasis on songs sung by Jim Cuddy - too much for my liking, as I would have liked some of Keelor's angrier ventures. Awesome piano and violin solos!

It started out slow; like a night at home with a few thousand good friends but by the half-way point the band and the crowd were rocking along to all the old favourites. Blue Rodeo are a great group of musicians who after all these years have mastered the art of telling a story and keeping your interest. I am usually the type to say to myself, "just play your greatest hits and forget the new stuff", but even the new songs seemed like classics and most of the people in the audience were just as happy to hear them play the new songs as the old. I have to say though... Toronto crowds take a long time to get warmed up and are too conservative by my standards.

While I really looked forward to this, I found the show to be rather self-indulgent. I felt like I was in a rehearsal studio with some fellow musicians, with amps and other gear strewn about, and players standing anywhere where they could plug in. It was disappointing. It looked rather unrehearsed and when the boys dove into guitar solos, it had the sound of trying to fit a pentatonic scale into a country song. Personally, I didn't like looking at someone's back while they went into a solo, and even the light show was off-beat and truthfully, blinding for most of the show. Overall... disappointed for the money. I think even they looked uncomfortable, not even holding the last note of a song before shanging guitars for the next. Malkin Bowl is where they need to be (at $40)

I drive to Chicago from Michigan every time Blue Rodeo plays there. This show was fantastic! All of the new songs were wonderful. I like the new releases live best because we actually get to hear Greg and Jim sing.....the old songs instigate such a "sing along" riot that the guys are drowned out. Having seen BR in many venues, it's still a great treat to see them up close and very personal, and Martyr's sure delivers on that! Nice to see Luc again too. If you can see the band on this tour, don't miss out, the new songs are great!

I've liked this group for many years ... Not sure others would find it amazing, because this is one of my bucket list bands to see. So might be a bit bias. But it was a great show. They do very little talking, it's all music. Tonight's set was about 100 minutes with the encore. They did I think 19 songs, three were covers. One thing if you go to setlist,fm and look at their shows, tonight with a couple of adds was pretty much the same. They tend to do the same songs in the same order. But I enjoyed it. I was center, about row 7 in the rows... Floor seating is on flat ground, so if you're not up in the fround you probably won't see much, but can get down to the stage. But for viewing, floor isn't very good. If you do the valet, the entrance for the Colosseum is separate from the Casino ... This venue often has 19 and up concerts and all age concerts.

Saw Blue Rodeo over the weekend at The Colosseum and have to say, they are a criminally under-rated band! I've been a fan for 20-some years but have only had the pleasure of seeing them twice. Mostly, because I live in the US and they don't seem to get to my area that often (we actually had to cross the border into Windsor to see them this time). Greg Keelor even made a joke about playing in Michigan 20-some years ago and it was the show we were at! Too funny. They are such great musicians and vocalists and sounded amazing! They played about an hour and a half and I could have easily listened for another hour. Wish they would get to this area more often!

Blue Rodeo are an iconic Canadian band for good reason. They tour the country regularly, they have a huge following of hardcore fans and they play their hits. But is it stale? Not at all! The hits are hits because they're awesome. Everyone sings along, and the musicianship is really strong. The band gives each other space and they're all happy when someone stretches out iin a solo. Keillor and Cuddy are a great yin and yang pair of lead singers. Some songs get an acoustic treatment with fewer players, and new songs get sprinkled in.

Full house, yet such an intimate location, Massey Hall. Crowd was so supportive, and for good reason of course. We were sitting top row, right wing, & stood up dancing all night and singing to their music. It was such an uplifting concert. The only complaint Id make is that often the sound was 'muddy'. Terra Lightfoot should replace her sound engineer; the bass and drums overpowered her vocals. Blue Rodeo gave an an amazing performance with a mix of old and new, almost all favourites were featured; seldom do these 'older' bands replicate their early recordings, but these guys did. I love the way they split the show by playing the new album in the first set, then their older stuff in the second set. The sound was perfect and well balanced. The band was very tight as usual and Colin Cripps on lead guitar and harmony vocals adds another dimension to the band. Great extended jams on songs while trading leads was fun to see. I love the way Glenn mixed it up on the drums with sticks and brushes while playing a few songs using a cajon as his kick and brushes on an electronic snare. He got a great sound out of this small kit. Bob, Michael and Basil were solid as usual and well featured on their leads. Jim and Greg haven't sounded better on vocals! GREAT SHOW!

What a treat to listen to Blue Rodeo's music! The Jube allows musicians to confirm their command of their craft! The new CD songs offered up were pure Blue Rodeo genre: ballads & memorable harmonies with just enough rock for the road! A pity some of the audience seemed to believe it was a concert only for them and could not stop talking throughout. Is Calgary in need of somje concert etiquette posters? Jim's and Greg's voices were stronger and richer than ever, and SO magic together. They seem to have such a good time up there on stage. As a Blue Rodeo fan for decades, every one of their older songs brings back memories of happiness and heartbreak. Really liked their new tunes too. Loved the song where they brought the Devin Cuddy band on stage, and especially when Devin sang Jim's part. It felt like one giant house party. Have always been a great BR fan.The highlight of my first concert was Greg Keelor's solo, "Northumberland", fantastic performance on his part. Thought there were parts of some of their numbers that contained a little overkill and took away from the original versions that I remember. All in all they are still in my mind one of Canada's best groups ever and will continue to buy tickets to any concerts in this area.

I've seen this roots-rock band several times and they never let me down, no matter what the venue. This was one of band's 25th Anniversary shows so there was an air of appreciation amongst the fans. I've always looked at the band as a single unit, but during this show I thought the lead (electric) guitarist (can't find his name) performed acrobatics with his instrument and drummer Glenn Milchem is highly under-rated. The band is in the high-price ticket bracket now, so they better come up with a few more hits if they want more of my hard-earned cash.

It was a solid, high quality, entertaining concert! The band brought back many great memories and Jim and Greg have not lost the magic! A terrific night with my wife.
