We ve not missed one of Dweezil Zappa s shows in Dallas since he started out with ZPZ tour. He and the band are always spot on, tight, and having fun as they perform for the audience. It s so awesome to see him sharing his fathers amazing music with us, and I m sure Frank would be so proud of his son. I can t wait for Dweezil to return to Dallas. My only hope is that if he plays HOB again, the venue does something about the a/c for the center main floor. It was absolutely freezing, vents were blowing full force straight down on us, and the staff said there was nothing they could do. Four of us, and the row in front of us, moved across to empty seats over to the side which was a little better. But it was still like sitting inside an icebox

Dweezil and the band delivered with every number. The group is very talented and entertaining. Their performance was outstanding on each piece regardless of the complexity, nuance or musicality of the tune. There wasn't a low point to the evening, a solid 3 hours of fiendish, complex, thrilling and distinctive presentations of selections from his late father's collection. At some moments I would close my eyes, be transported back more years than I care to admit, and see and hear Frank! I have attended several of Dweezil's concerts and this was by far the best! Not to be missed, highly recommend; you will not be disappointed.

It's great Dweezil is doing these tours. It exposes Frank's music to new generations. FZ was amazing for sure. DZ isn't too bad either. Very talented musicians he chose to be in his band.

Dweezil and band delivered a great show. The sound at the front of the stage was great. The band was precise and relaxed. The song selection left room for many extended jams. The jams were creative and musical, but I would have preferred hearing a little more of Franks catalog. Dweezil was very interactive with the audience and that just added to the tongue in cheek nature of the show. Dweezil continues to honor his fathers legacy while creating one of his own. Don't miss him if he passes through your town.

Like so many shows since Dweezil started Zappa Plays Zappa, this one was also great. Mainly because hearing Frank's music played live with worthy musicianship is always outstanding. The setlist wasn't how I might have put it together just from a dynamic, back-to-back point of view (it was a Sunday night and maybe they chose less challenging pieces) but hearing Big Swifty performed by itself was well worth it.

I have seen hundreds of acts in hundreds of venues, and this by far stands near the top of the list, of the best all time shows! Dweezil is so unappreciated, and so below the radar of most folks when they think of musicians...it truly is something that is a shame for those who don't know. Although performing his father's music, Dweezil never eclipsed the music's integrity; but, at the same time, he and his band stood out as the awesome musicians that they are in their own right!! Kudos to the combination of talent, charisma, integrity and showmanship that this concert exemplified! Dweezil stayed long after the end of the encore, signing autographs and talking to fans; something not seen EVER in these days of high ticket prices and nosebleed seats in monster venues! The House of Blues is an incredible venue for any show, as it is intimate, with great sound, and near plenty of places to stay overnight. To Dweezil and the band: you guys were fantastic!!!! One of the best shows of my life!!!!

Have always been a fan of Frank Zappa's genius, as well as Dweezil's virtuosity on guitar. Both came together beautifully last night in the Zappa Plays Zappa show at the House of Blues in Atlantic City (terrific venue, by the way.) I've always loved Frank Zappa's attitude and wit, but wasn't sure if even Dweezil could put together a group of musicians which could truly capture the layered, rapid-fire construction which is the hallmark of his father's music. I was more than pleasantly surprised. Every member of the 8-piece band was spot on in their execution which focused on the expected (Nanook is a No No, Cosmic Debris) to the slightly more rare (Blue Light, My Old House.) All were done with expertise, craftsmanship and reverence to the originals. The vocalist was very true to the master's voice and attitude, and Dweezil's solos were brilliant, and delivered with an amazing nonchalance.... My only regret was that the crowd was relatively small. However, that allowed me to bolt my balcony seat, and make my way to about the third row of the floor. It was a really good time...

I've seen this band before, several times, different venues. I'd have to say that this was probably one of my 'lesser' experiences watching and listening to ZPZ. First off, I felt for the band, the reasons for their late appearance would have anyone in a sour mood (not as sour as a blue waffle mind you!). But between a somewhat subdued stage energy, and a multiple roster of technical issues (crackling cords, lost cords, RF noise on the PA, a crappy PA in the QE overall, etc), the show lacked its typical flair and uniqueness and groove I've come to expect from ZPZ. Furthermore, I follow ZPZ because of Frank, and this show seemed to lack the ever wished for presence of Frank. Albeit, Peaches was a great way to end the show, as was Muffin Man. MONDO props to Ben, the new do-all singer and front man, amazing vocals and tons of fun to watch - he had it going on. Dweezil, always amazed at his virtuosity, but the sound wasn't so hot last night - could it be the PA, the fact he's running an Axe FX Ultra instead of stomps, or a combination of both? Still love ya man, there isn't another band out there doing what it is you do, and as well as you do it. Next time, opt for stage amps and the Orpheum - peace. One last thing, some phenomenal jams happened last night - would have just been that much better if the PA was better in order to differentiate from all the instruments and their specific parts et al.

Dweezil Zappa once again played tribute to his father's musical brilliance by performing a subset of his music. The band was tight, as usual, and the addition of a new lead singer added to the experience of seeing the band again in a new light. The concert was excellent and the music was brilliant.

Dweezil Zappa does a fantastic job of presenting the legendary music of his father on the Zappa Plays Zappa tour. While many have not had the chance to see the late Frank Zappa in concert, this tour is the closet thing to it. Each of the seven members in the band are fantastic musicians and provide renditions of the classics that are very loyal to the originals. This particular tour is bound to attract all sorts of fans, from those just starting the dive into the music of Frank Zappa to longtime fans who simply enjoy seeing the music performed. Dweezil is not only a fantastic performer, guitarist, and musician in his own right, but also extremely personable, staying long ofter the house lights went up to sign autographs. If you have listened to Frank Zappa's work and wish to experience it live, then the Zappa Plays Zappa tour can't be passed up.

Dweezil Zappa is an unbelievable talent. HIs own music in the 80's and 90's was a bit hokey, but taking time to learn his father's technique and bringing Frank's music to life is definitely his calling.

Son of the greatest composer/musician of the 20th century continues to bring us the beauty of Frank Zappa's creations in a form which probably is the closest to the original. True virtuosos accompany Dweezil Zappa on stage into the journey through the different periods of Frank's legacy. One can feel genetic connection between two generations, especially when Dweezil explodes into amazingly Zappaesque guitar solos, because it is not enough to be a great guitar player to perform at this level - one must have something in the bloodstream, something crazy, something unique in the brain and I call it Frank Zappa's gene. Obviously Dweezil has it. I am personally very grateful to Dweezil and his family for keeping the legacy of his father alive and to some degree sacrificing his own ambitions as an artist and musician in order to bring Frank's music to younger audiences in a form of live performances, which, to many was and still remains a life changing experience! Few would argue with once famous line from Frank Zappa - Music Is the Best!

Outstanding, tight band. My first live Zappa concert, though long time fan. Frank Zappa lives on in his son and company. I've had Purple Lagoon and Black Page #2 running through my head for the last five days. Dweezil's current line up are super tight, creative and look like they're having a lot of fun up there. The set list ran from really obscure to late 1980s hard driving, but the sweet spot is always Frank's mid-1970s meaty rhythms overlaid with tasty solo. Any show that pulls out the Cheepnis - Son of Orange County - Trouble Every Day sequence is going to be all right in my book. Dweezil does a great job keeping Franks music alive and fresh.

The band does not feature any of Frank s old bandmates, but the group of young musicians he has are equal to any who accompanied Frank. They are super tight, super versatile and they just blew me away. They played a lot of obscure material and really nailed it all. Dweezil has his dad\u2018s ability to solo brilliantly. It was as close to a frank Zappa show as one can get. I was glad that I brought a friend who never got to see Frank. Also the show was well over three hours without a break. They even remembered to put in little touches like I don t do Publicity balling for you anymore just before they went into absolutely free. Having been a Frank Zappa fan since my early teens, being introduced to him by my older brother while riding around the backwood roads in the Catskill Valley. I had seen Frank Zappa 5 times. When hearing about Dweezil & his mission to continue on with his fathers work i thought, "wow what a noble thing to do", but can you pull it off? Knowing what all Frank Zappa fans know, Yes, Frank is a musical genius! This would be no small feat. Now, after seeing Dweezil more times than i actually saw his dad i must say without a doubt that Dweezil is one of the most fluid guitarist performing his style of music today. Not to mention he has most certainly convinced me and the masses of Frank Zappa fans that not only can he pull it off, Dweezil kicks major ass! I watched this last performance at the Hart Theatre at the Egg in Albany, N.Y. with pure wonderment. Dweezil has 3 hands!! Yup, 3.. I watched him slide up, down, back & forth on the neck of his SG and saw one hand strumming & picking the 2 hands on the neck doing the rest. Where he hides the other hand when not in use is a mystery but hey, so is life. For all it's worth between me & you, I will go see Dweezil Zappa every chance i can and will tell everyone that will listen to do the same. It was another wonderful performance. The musicianship in this band is seriously crazy good. I could have sworn i saw Dweezil let his drummer use the extra hand several times during the night. lol. How these guys maintain that level of intensity & focus is beyond reason. Dweezil, you have done your dad proud my friend. Hell i'm proud of you. I thank you for continuing on with your dads work & throwing your heart in soul into it. But it's more than that. It's your playing, your skill, your ability to make it yours and own every bit of it. It's your music now. Rick Surrano

Dwezil and the band once again dug deep into the Zappa repertoire and pulled out a brilliant performance. "Drowning Witch" a tune I, and most others, would consider too ambitious (and too difficult) to perform live was brought to life before an astonished audience. The Wellmont Theater seems to be uniquely suited for artists of this kind. Although i have seen Dwezil and his band many times, the shows at the Wellmont stand out. 3 Hours and 10 minutes of pure Frank Zappa brilliance. I have seen every Dweezil Zappa tour since he started performing the music of his late dad. Dweezil has really outdone himself this time. Not only is the band a bunch of brilliant and gifted musicians, but they really seem to be enjoying the music and each other. The "choice cuts" Dweezil has chosen for this tour were excellent - a mixture of old faves with some lesser known but just as excellent cuts. And as a total surprise, Dweezil brought out the original Jersey City 6-man vocal group, the Persuasions, both before the band came on and again during the encore and these old cats were still as smooth and awesome as they were back in the day when Frank Zappa produced their first album all those years ago. Need I say more? Do not miss this tour.

Wow, what a fun time and the band is having a blast too. A bit of a line up change from last trip to the ballroom and just like his dad, Dweezil he gets the most from his band. How about being able to hit the high notes like Yippee Hi Yo Hi Yea! s in Montana or lead vocals on Zomby Woof for example. The show began with a focus on Franks early career and a lot of Freak Out more than any Zappa or ZPZ show I ever attended. Help I'm A Rock, It Can't Happen Here, You're Probably Wondering Why I'm Here, Who Are The Brain Police and How Could I be Such A Fool. Wow! It was really interesting set list, From 200 Motels She Painted Up Her Face, Janet's Big Dance Number, Half A Dozen Provocative Squats, and Strictly Gentile, From Joe's Garage- Wet T-Shirt nite, Keep It Greasy, Watermelon In Easter Hay this was incredible. They also played Black Napkins and Apostrophe but who expected a full blown Holiday In Berlin, my ears were smiling! Low light was a rather dull rendition of Hey Punk and that was it. The set went by fast and it was almost 2 hours before they went off. Encore yes Cosmic Debris, City Of Tiny Lights, Don't Eat Yellow Snow and ending with a abbreviated Muffin Man sending me home wanting to crack out Freak Out or the newer remix of it. He keeps getting better every time i see him.

If you are a die hard FZ lifelong fan, like Myself, it is a MUST that you see Dweezils shows. The Son of Frank pulls memories out of the past and makes you smile from ear to ear. His ability to put together such tight and spot-on bands is obviously inherted from his Dad. I am 67 years old and I never missed a chance to see Frank back in the day. The very best of Frank Zappa s extensive catalogue played by the best iteration of Dweezil s band. And Dweezil himself is a masterful guitar player. Exciting show from start to finish

A Frank Zappa concert was an experience unparalleled in musical mayhem! Orchestrating his musical genius live was magical. Dweezil is diligently creating a bridge to his fathers music that credits musical genius and keeps the music living on live! Live Zappa music that credits the composer in a very connected way. Worth seeing again and again as he expands his bands repertoire.

Dweezil and his absolutely magically excellent band delivered Frank Zappa's song and spirit perfectly. Their level of execution was par none, and I can imagine Frank sitting with us soaking it all in; he would love it, and be so absolutely proud of the show, and his son.

As dweezil goes out celebrating the 50th anniversary of Freak Out. We see a set list which touches on his fathers entire career. He has assembled an ensemble of musicians which could rival any of those of assembled by his father. And while there maybe legal disputes over the rights to the use of the family name, after the performance I witnessed I can say that it is clear that what is known as Zappa was Alive and well on stage at Janus live in St.Petersburg on Sunday night and no court on earth or heaven can say otherwise .

Didn't grow up a huge Zappa fan, but knew of his eccentric music and complex arrangements. Picked up on Dweezil's playing abilities and went to the show hoping to see and hear it firsthand. Got that and more, his band is incredible! The eccentricity is there (Dweezil views it as ahead of its time and he may well be right), but Dweezil's playing was showcased and was phenomenal! Great show, far exceeded my expectations which were very high to begin with!

I bought the sound check/VIP tix. Met Dweezil and he signed a couple of things for me. Got to chat a bit and he's genuinely nice guy and so are his band mates. The show was fun and Dweezil is an amazing player. Ihad to keep reminding myself it wasn't Frank.

What an amazing show. Note for note playing his fathers music. Zappa can cover any song. But not very many people could cover any of his songs. This is my 3rd time seeing dweezil and it keeps getting better. Any frank Zappa fan has to see this show. Best show I've been to since sir Paul McCartney.

Dweezil and the members of his band provide an excellent show and deliver the music if Frank Zappa with all due musical excellence and integrity. Their execution is nothing short of flawless. This was such a fun experience! Special guests were Ike Willis (for about half of the show) and Jullian Lage (on Black Napkins).

Dweezil Zappas soldiers on in his impassioned effort to sustain his father Frank's tremendous musical legacy, undeterred by his litigious siblings' efforts to shut him down. His skill level on guitar is beyond belief, transcending even Frank's acumen, but echoing Frank's distinctive sensibilities about improvisational music, or "air sculptures" as he used to call them. Likewise, the musicians with whom Dweezil has surrounded himself are each at a stratospheric level of musicianship at their respective instruments, often multiple instruments. Together they consistently deliver performances that are variously humorous, engaging, and inspiring. The band is tight as they come, and understandably there were multiple standing ovations during the performance. A must-see for anyone with even a passing interest in Frank Zappa's music, or just in eclectic music performed at superhuman level of virtuosity.

Incredible musicians. The complexity of Frank Zappa's music played perfectly. They all must be Juilliard graduates. Met some of the band outside while we were waiting for our car. Nice regular people who obviously love playing for the fun of it. I would see them again next timev they are in the New York City area.

Was invited to a soundcheck before the concert where Dwwezil and his band tuned up and played a few songs. There were only 14 people showing up for that and afterward he sat and talked with us and signed my ticket and posed for a pic with me,then, he thanked me!!!What rock star does that?Afterward he gave a 3 hour excellent concert to a sold out crowd.Beyond any of my expectations.

Dweezil never disappoints and this show was no exception! Great setlist... my only complaint would be it was a very quick 90 minute show. However, I think that was the venue, not his, choice. It was a casino and I believe they had something else going on later in the evening. The show was great enough that I will be going to see Dweezil next week!

I never miss any of Dweezil's shows. I didn't miss any of Franks shows either. It was a treat to hear the music from Freakout. And it did take me back to when I was a 13 year old kid buying that album for the first time. Music was never quite the same after that. The show at Turning Stone was exceptional. The 2 new members of the band are exceptionally gifted at what they do. But you would expect nothing less from someone who has the talent to tackle some of the most complicated music ever written. For some reason the folks at Turning Stone decided Dweezil would play for exactly 90 minutes. No idea what that was about, I hope thats not a regular occurrence. Other than that it was a great night of great music. Performed by great musicians for the greatest fans of music.

This was the third time I've seen Dweezil Zappa play and it was a fantastic show. He's an amazing guitar player and he is always accompanied by equally talented musicians. It's wonderful that he keeps the music of his father alive for people like me who was fortunate enough to see Frank perform live twice and also for younger generations who may be hearing it performed live for the first time. If you ever get the chance to see him, do it! You will not be disappointed.

In spite of family feuding, Dweezil remains resolved to sustain his father's musical legacy by making a live experience of Frank Zappa's music an optional entertainment choice for people with fine music taste. On this tour he's showcasing his own solo work which he states was influenced by 10 years of intensive study and performance of his father's music. Always affable but just as disciplined a performer and band leader as his father, his shows are always an extraordinary experience and should be enjoyed by anyone with even a passing interest in the Zappa Family's contribution to music.

I have followed Dweezil's career for many years and the Choice Cuts Tour may be his best yet. I am so impressed that Dweezil and the band so deftly reached back into the early FZ material and just nailed it. Thank you for the excellent performance and for reviving fond memories back to the mid 70's.

Dweezil Zappa and his six band mates put on a stellar performance. The only downside was an advertised 7:30 start time and the show started at 8:42. My son and I rushed through dinner to get to the venue on time only to wait for over an hour.

Dweezil has out-done himself on this tour. The Band is super-tight. The Material is extremely well chosen. It's kinda late for this review unless you are in Europe. That's where they're headed next. If I could go somewhere and watch/listen to this show again, I would. TRIPLE THUMBS UP!!!

Dwezzle and his band as usual put up a great concert. Well worth the money to see in my eyes as one of the best guitarist alive. They put on a unique flair to Franks songs and provided a jam session that was made for TV. Of course Dwezzle digs deep into the records to come up with music that most people have never hear which is great, but I am of the old sort and wish he would play a few more of the well know scores we all Know Frank for. Don't get me wrong it was a great concert. I just wish once of these years he comes out on tour with all his top hits. What a treat that would be.

Dweezil is hands down one of the coolest people in the world. To be able to sit down and talk with him is pretty amazing. I give him 5 stars, however I do think the description of the event should be better communicated. It's more of a seminar where he talks technique and not really a lesson. That's all fine and good, but it was really hard to find that information out and try and get an answer as to whether I should bring a guitar or not. All in all, I recommend this to anyone who adores this man and his love and reverence for his father.
