While Shorter and his band were outstanding, but personally , I would have prefered if the other headliners had just been featured within the performance of his band.

As a retired, yet very active jazzhead, I have seen Wayne perform many times over the years with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers as well as with the renowned Miles Davis Quintet. His Town Hall performance confirmed once again his musical genius and, not surprisingly, that he still has his considerable chops at age 80. While the music was totally different and more in vogue with the abstract improvisations preferred by many of today's younger jazz musicians, the arrangements, Wayne's musical dexterity and energy on his tenor and soprano, truly displayed his brilliance as a jazz master and legend. Supported by his stellar rhythm section; Danilo Perez on piano, John Patitucci on bass and the hard-driving, percussive drumming of Brian Blade, the entire performance was an incomparable Tour de Force. Long live Wayne Shorter.

Expected exploratory, but uplifting music. Given the opportunity cost of time and money, will stick with the wisdom of Wayne Shorter's Elders. "The music should wash away the ..." "It don't mean a thing if ..."

The guy has been too good for too long and too meaningful to the development of modern music to say anything bad about him .. It would be heresy .. Let's just say, I have never seen him live before, and seeing how he is now 80 years old, I felt it was about time .. And he was good .. I would have liked to have seen him as the only act on the bill so that he could have played some more .. This takes nothing away from Joe Lovano's group or ACS (Allen, Spaulding, Carrington) who played well .. However, they don't have Wayne's charisma or mojo (maybe in 30 years) .. They were even calling him maestro .. Wayne has just done too much far out stuff in too many concepts for too long .. Maybe he is what Coltrane would have been if he had lived ..

The Joe Lovano- Dave Douglass quintet was the best opening act I ever saw.Wayne Shorter at 80 was top notch on tenor and soprano.

Three bands in one show, one with Spaulding, one with Lovano, and then the one with Shorter. Quite a triple bill!

Town Hall is a beautiful venue with good sightlines throughout the space. All performers were fantastic and clearly at the top of their game. Sound Prints was excellent but the performance was marred by sound issues: inability to hear the piano or announcements from the stage; aural dominance of the front line horns; and drums too loud. ACS was excellent as well, esp. Geri Allen, and the sound was definitely more balanced. Ditto the WSQ who were brilliant as usual though I wish they'd played a longer set.

Wanye SHorte and the band are always awesome. It was a short show when they came out but that can be expected at his age. The band was steller!
