The Black Watch

The Black Watch

The legendary pipes, drums and highland dancers of Scotland's Black Watch join forces with the Band of the Scots Guards for an evening celebrating the music of four nations:  England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.  This performance with 70 people on stage will feature bagpipes, traditional military marches (on stage and in the aisles!), drum solos, Celtic dancing, and songs as famous as Londonderry Air, Colonel Bogey, Men of Harlech and Land of Hope and Glory.

I can't think of enough superlatives to describe how wonderful this was. I hope they made enough off it to come back. Fantastic in every way. A real privilege to be able to attend.

So proud to have heritage with such great music and brave military. And it was so nice of them to play the US' military songs, too, and acknowledge the vets in the audience!

Music was very good and impressive marching and uniforms. We had Good seats but did not get the view expected. Performed mostly to end of seating. Would like to have seen less of their backsides when stationary performing. Short 10 min intermission so we didn't go anywhere. Late show for weeknight (8-10) so anxious to get out and home when over. Would like to have seen offerings of PROGRAMS (Before show) and CDs but they mentioned but didn't see. Would not let us in until 1 hr before show. Should have had programs accessible then at each entrance to add to knowledge of show and CDs available there also before and after show. Would have made more enjoyable for us and profitable for them.

My dad and I really enjoyed the Black Watch and Band of the Scots Guards. It was a wonderful cultural experience, and the musicians were flawless! I would definitely recommend going to see them...especially since they travelled half way around the world to come play for us in Greenville, SC!

Amazing drum line performance. Highest quality musicians in the world (as evidenced by awards at the Edinburgh tattoo). Should perhaps be in a smaller venue though so that you can see their precision better. Announcer should, perhaps, explain the history of the dancers, and their dances, for those who are not familiar with Scotland's military history. Also needed to announce the soloists to give them proper credit.

This is the second time hearing the group. Greenville was a better venue than Charlotte. It was the best rendition of Amazing Grace I have ever heard.

The show was excellent and had a great time. I don't think there was a bad seat in the house. Getting tickets online was easy and convenient.

The Black Watch and The Band of the Scots Guards gave a great performance on Tuesday, January 22; the pieces that were performed were varied and well-played. In addition to having the Pipe Band and the Band of the Scots Guard, the Highland Dancers added another good dimension to the performance. I would readily attend another performance.

The Blackwatch and the Band of the Scots was very enjoyable. The only negative is NO PICTURES allowed. Should have allowed the use of cameras for this event.

I enjoyed the show, but did not think it was as good as past performances. Would have liked to see more Blackwatch and less drill. I saw a performance that was very precise but lacked sperit. This review asks about pictures and videos. They were not allowed. I do not know why, but I found that the staff spent a lot of time enforcing the rule and that was more distracting to me than camera flash.

Saw them a few years ago at the bilo center and they prove over and over that they are the soul moving heart of the military. The bilo center however is a very poor host, not allowing any recording devices and actually have people walking around demanding viewers to turn off any cellphones that are used to take video or pictures. I was forced to walk 1/2 mile back to my car as I couldn't take my camera in. I hope the black watch decides to choose a more user friend venue next time.

We had a terrific view. The performers were awesome. We enjoyed seeing and hearing the bagpipers and the band. The Highland Dancers did a great job, too. It was good to hear of some of the history behind these groups and the pieces they performed.

What a show! If you arrive early (or go into the lobby area during the intermission), artists will speak with you and pose for pictures with you: so friendly! When the show begins and the first pipers appear on stage, you can sense the whole audience all silently going "Wow!" in their heads and an excited hush falls over the auditorium. I loved the announcer explaining the history of the regiments and giving some information about each set beforehand. The musicians and dancers were superb. It was goosebump-causing stuff. I saw the Coldstream Guards perform at the Tilles Center some years back and it, too, was a fabulous show. The next time British regimental bands come to the Tilles Center, by all means GO SEE THEM! The staff at the Tilles Center also helped to make the evening great: they were polite, helpful, and friendly.

I went, thinking I was going to get 2 hours of bagpipe music (which I wouldn't have complained about), but it ended up being an entire experience, and it was absolutely magical. From the dancing, to the band, it really gave me a taste of the culture that I have a soft spot for. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves tradition and wants to understand more about British culture, or just about worldly music in general. I know I'll never forget it!

The bagpipes were cool but the marching band wasn't my thing. A little boring.
