Joe Henry

JOE HENRY IN CONCERT:Troubadour Joe Henry has built a rapport with Americana fans over the past three decades with superb songwriting and moving performances that incorporate a range of influences from jazz to country. His stripped-down shows enthrall fans with nothing more than his gravelly voice and earthy acoustic guitar, and ticket buyers hang on each poetic word of favorites like "Sunday Morning Coming Down," "Lead Me On," and "Signs." As Joe Henry embarks on the Shine a Light Tour in 2016 with folk rock iconoclast Billy Bragg, fans of stirring roots music will get the rare chance to see these two stalwarts relive and celebrate the spirit of Americana.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Joe Henry's music career began when he moved to New York and released his 1986 debut album Talk of Heaven.

I had no idea what to expect from Mr. Henry in concert. He is known mostly as a producer of other people's records (Solomon Burke, Ani DiFranco, Aimee Mann, and John Doe), but has a relatively low profile as a performer, even though he has toured for over 15 years. And. there was quite a small turnout at the club for the show. At 9:00 Henry walked onstage with an acoustic guitar, and proceeded to sing a large collection of his own material, especially from his latest release, 'Invisible Hour'. He has a lovely singing voice, but his writing is what stands out. He has such an insightful way to discuss human relationships, and the world around him. This was 'Joe Henry, Folksinger' night, and a mighty fine one at that. Great show!

Great to see Joe amongst friends and family,. The person that played a few songs on piano was great, cant remember his name. The new material was super and the older stuff had a nice sound with the group and Joe's stripped down guitar sound. His son on Horn was a nice edition. He did a decent job emulating the other horn players from the older albums, which was a real challenge as there those players were top notch.

I must admit that I had not listened to a lot of Joe Henry before last night. I went to the concert because my husband really wanted to go. But, after this concert, I will be listening to a lot more Joe Henry. The show was tremendous. Not only was Joe Henry in wonderful form musically, he was warm and engaging, welcoming the audience into his music over and over again with a few well chosen words, not a lot of chat. In addition, his band -- I wish I could tell you the names of his talented stand up bass player and his amazing percussionist -- were unbelievably good. I can't recommend the show highly enough. GO HEAR JOE HENRY!
