Been 17 years since I saw MM, when they toured Dopes to Infinity. Was awesome to see Dave and the guys play again. Super tight and full of raw energy. Dave's voice is awesome. The only thing he's lost is a few pounds! Since MM seems to be doing most of their touring in Europe these days, I strongly recommend that you see them if you get the chance. Hate to wait another 17 years before I get to see them again.

This was a great show. The whole album is so cool and it was a lot of fun to see it live. I missed the 1st opening act, but Quest For Fire was great. Naam was alright to. :)

Another great Monster Magnet show Dave never let the crowd down close to a two hour set and for 18 bucks it was a steal. See my video on my youtube channel from this show and others YJAdonis1.

So there I was at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ with my friend Doc, all decked out with my favorite Hawkwind shirt on, and I was 2 heads from the edge of the stage. The energy and anticipation of the crowd just before Monster Magnet took the floor probably overloaded every cell phone and camera in the building! Intense is an understatement! Dave Wyndorf and the rest of the band came out on stage; the crowd got really loud and literally went nuts ... and with an evil grin, and devious twinkle in his eye... Dave very calmly said, "Were gonna start this off slow and build our way up." They started the set off with some Psych-drenched, Tube-amp feedback' ish sounds... and went into "Nod Scene," (3rd track from the 1992 cult-status album Spine Of God) and the groove of that song quickly got the crowd right where it needed to be, much like throwing a juicy steak to a pack of wolves ready to devour ...anything! "Nod Scene," was coming to a close... just when I thought the energy of the crowd was ever so slightly satisfied, and at a safe-for-human level, Monster Magnet went into "Tractor!" It was a hell-ride frenzy of metal mayhem from the bull gods, fists & devil horns in the air all night long! As this Monster Magnet fueled, untamed cyclone, psych-metal evening continued, we got to hear a decade and a half of eclectic tracks from Superjudge to Mastermind, some fan-favorites included: "Dopes To Infinity," "Medicine," "Dinosaur Vacume," "Look To Your Orb For the Warning," plus the Captain Lockheed & The Starfighters (Hawkwind) cover, "The Right Stuff." Just when I thought I had heard it all, and there were no more surprises Monster Magnet went into their 1998 world hit, "Spacelord." Dave had every soul in Starland singing the lyrics and dropping the F-bomb! They closed the set with the current single "Gods & Punks," and Bored with Sorcery," then ended the set with "Crop Circle," and "Powertrip." Wyndorf commanded the spectacle with an angry, intense, powerful voice that has never sounded better! Caivano's guitar wizardry was legendary; Baglino & Pantella maintained a rhythm section that was as solid as a rock wall. Unfortunately, 18-year guitarist Ed Mundell left Monster Magnet in November of 2010; however the unknown replacement did a good job of filling some really big shoes on guitar. Overall, Monster Magnet performed an epic set, I had been waiting to see that show for over 17 years, and it was as great, if not better, than I expected. I left the building wanting more!

While all but one of the opening acts left a bit to be desired, Monster Magnet made up for it tenfold with a setlist that combined lesser known songs from their earlier years with catchy songs that everyone knows. It was a great show, I'd definitely see them again.

Great show, good sound mixing at HOB. Dave sounded great, band is super unconsciously tight. Played 4 songs from powertrip, still just as powerful. The newer stuff is just ok. I think the new direction is causing the band to play too intensely over the lyrics of the songs, especially the verses. It is hard to appreciate the insane poetry of his lyrics with the band playing 100% while he is singing. 90 min set including encore. Also appreciate that since the crowd is aging, there is a lot less weed in the air during the show.

Do you know the fear just before the first time you are going to see one one your favorite bands live on stage for the first time - will it be as you imagine or will it be a disappointment? Monster Magnet surely blew my head of and crowned all my expectations!!!

My first Rock concert. It was a great venue and the band was a lot of fun. My only complaint is that there is only street parking and it took a long time to find a space.

Monster Magnet re-created its 1995 classic, Dopes To Infinity, on Friday the 13th (2012) at the venerable Music Hall of Williamsburg. But the real story was the two opening bands, Quest For Fire and Naan, both demonstrating some state-of-the-art psychedelic assault. Keep your eyes on these guys. Monster Magnet rocked as well, but Wyndorf has gotten really fat, which is disillusioning, and his voice was shot. They also had the bass drum mixed WAY up, virtually drowning him out. When the mix improved, they sounded much better. As tight as they were, it all seemed a bit anticlimactic. The 1995 studio version of the record does far greater justice to this material than the 2012 live version, unfortunately. I left after about an hour or so of their set, because I was tired. Stoner rock lives, but it's gotten a bit fat. Thankfully there are also some fine new bands ready to pick up the mantle. Peace.

Great song selection and the sound was very good. After all the warm up acts, they started a bit late though.

Ive been goin to see this band for years. They get better and better. This time new lead guitarist Garrett Sweeney filled the shoes of Ed Mundell (veteran Monster Magnet member of 19 years) and made the lineup complete and the sound was great. Dave sounded clear and was on the top of his game. Bob Pantella is the rock as always-keeping all us gals moving our asses. Songs from early albums as well as the newest MASTERMIND were played in the 1 1/2 hour set. xxx love you guys YOU ROCK!!!

Unfortunately this was my first time ever seeing Monster Magnet. I was completely excited. There were already 4 bands listed as openers for MM. By the time we arrived there were an additional 2 bands added. MM did not go on until between 10-11. They only played for about an hour or so. They played 5 songs before taking a small break and coming on for the encore, which proceeded with another possibly 5 songs. They have so many albums and could have played for much much longer than they did... that was the disappointing part. Otherwise they were totally awesome, on key, and played well together.

Monster Magnet played two awesome sets, including most of my favorite songs. Look To Your Orb For The Warning rocked surprisingly hard live, and they kept the crowd happy by playing 4-5 songs from Powertrip (amongst other things). They had plenty of energy - Dave didn't seem slowed down at all by his, uh, extra insulation. I had a blast. The crowd was generally pretty cool and everyone was rocking out and enjoying the music. The openers were varied, and mostly good, though arguably six was too many.

Having seen Monster Magnet a few times in the past, it was good to see them finally back on the road. After the initial shock of Dave Wydoff's weight gain subsided (Dave, the hooded sweat shirt in a hot club, 3 sizes too big for you, did not hide anything) the band was as good as ever. A few too many slower melodic pieces in the middle of the show is the only reason they did not get a 5 star review.

I waited 3 years to see Monster Magnet make up a NJ gig that they cancelled because of front man, Dave Wyndorf's drug overdose in 2006. I wasn't disappointed. Monster Magnet are not called the 'gods of stoner rock' for nothing. The show was heavy on a lot of older, acid-tinged material from Tab and Spine of God. But when it came time to rock, the band cranked up 'Space Lord,' 'Melt,' and a lot of the better, newer stuff as well. I was not disappointed. Even after 3 years, Dave Wyndorf remains one of the most creative spirits in music today!
