Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 1983, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are one of the most critically acclaimed post-punk bands of the last 30 years. Following the end of their previous group, the Birthday Party, singer-songwriter Cave and drummer Mick Harvey began the Bad Seeds. Initially joined by Barry Adamson on bass and Blixa Bargeld on guitar, the band has seen a number of personnel changes over the years with the one constant being the creative force of Cave himself. Exploring the themes of love and religion, the band’s debut album, From Her to Eternity, was released in 1984.

Beautiful lyrics, phenomenal perfomance, charisma galore. NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS never disappoint. They connect with the audience in ways that other performers do not dare. My recommendation? Get to one of their concerts by any means necessary.

Nick Cave is admittedly and acquired taste for most, but if you should have even the slightest curiosity about him or his music, put him and the Bad Seeds on your short list of MUST SEE LIVE!!! Powerful and spellbinding.

Everything about the show was amazing... NC's voice was in top shape, TBS were as tight as can be, the sound was crystal clear, the set list was fantastic and dynamic, the audience engagement was unlike anything I've seen...

You would think that for $140 starting price tickets that the sound wouldn't make your ears bleed, but apparently you would be wrong. Clearly an amazing performer but the mix was so loud and bad that Nick was actually singing out of key on a few of the songs. It's not a huge venue, which should be a bonus as well as mean that you should have great control over the sound. The strings and kids sounded like the were singing through tin cans. That all being said I would say that 1/3 of the songs sounded great.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds put on an amazing show at the Berkeley Greek. They played the favorites (Red Right Hand, of course), as well as a lot off the new album which is just amazing. Cave came into the audience several times and even invited some audience members on stage with him and the band for the encore. He didn't talk much between songs, but when he did, he was hilarious! He has a magnetic stage presence, he is in good voice, and the Seeds are so tight musically, it is a joy to watch them. After two hours, I still didn't want the concert to end. I would see Nick Cave again anytime and hope he and the Seeds continue to tour for as long as they enjoy it as much as we do!

First and foremost the sound was wonderful as a musician myself I hate when bands are mixed poorly or play out of tune. The Bad Seeds sounded great, Nick sounded great. I believed in the emotion. Second thing, what fabulous showmanship great build up until the end. A true escape! a real show! Thanks Gentleman.

Brilliant mix of old and new... His intimacy with the audience was edgily lovely. I even loved the virtual presence of the Else Torp. Loses two stars because he plans to break the Palestinian call to boycott Israel. Like Thom York, he thinks he knows better.

Ok so, I have been a Nick Cave fan since mid 1980's. I have seen him live quite a few times as well. I have today that he was in top form at the Greek in Berkeley on June 24. This man has lived a very full life and has experience a tragedy that no one should ever experience. Somehow his personal growth through this devastation seemed to reverberate throughout the evening. The new songs were heartfelt and moving. There was nothing overworked about his performance. The freshness of the sentiment was palpable and his emotional cracks were here for all to share. The oldies were somehow fresher as well, as though a newfound life force was guiding the lyrics and music. The Bad Seeds were spot on as ever an all the nuances that the performance created were tight with a capital T. The audience was empathetic and grateful as several standing ovations proved. No performer in my mind has aged as gracefully as this man while still maintaining the ultimate 'cool'! I would see every show on this tour if I could!

I was afraid Nick Cave's last album wouldn't be very stage-compatible, but this concert was absolutely fantastic: Nick Cave and his band had so much energy to give that I was mesmerized from the very beginning to the very end of the concert! Even several days after the concert, I still have powerful images and songs haunting me. Nick Cave is the most genuine rock composer and singer I have ever seen...

One of the best performances I've ever seen. He had the audience sucked in from the beginning. He got off stage and walked over the seats as if he was floating above the audience. Toward the end of the show he pulled about 200 people on the stage and had a dance party. Then he told them all to sit down on stage so that he could tell them a story as if he was their father telling a bedtime story. One tall fat guy at the back of the stage didn't sit and Nick yelled sit the F$^% down! The guy complied. Absolutely incredible memories were made for me that magical night. I can still feel elation from the show 3 days later. I hope with all my heart he comes back soon.

Nick Cave is a writer, lyricist and performer who connects with his audience like no one else. Nick Cave returned to the Beacon after a 2 year hiatus upon suffering the tragic loss of one of his twin sons. He showed up not in mourning but as a man whose traveled to a dark mystical place and gathered even more light and wisdom. His new album from which he showcased is full of songs of hope and longing. There is still an urgent message of the joys of life despite life's trials and he and us pervail. If you're lucky enough to get an opportunity to catch a show on the tour, go. You'll be thankful. A truly cathartic and memorable experience.

Nick Cave was amazing! Full of energy and excitement. He really got the crowd involved. Moved around the stage and audience a lot. Did some great versions of his songs. However, Detroit Masonic Temple sucks. When I bought the tickets online; the price listed was for assigned seats and was a higher price than GA. When we arrived at the venue @ 8pm (doors were at 7p) we were told by Masonic Temple staff that there were no assigned seats (even though our tickets had specific seat numbers and sections on them) and that we should take a seat where we could find one open. The lights were down & Nick Cave was about to come on stage; the house was full and the only seats were at the very back of the building. Horrible seats! Could barely see Nick Cave from miles away. :-(

The Seeds performed for about three-hours non-stop, not including a brief interlude between the main set and the encore. Cave was in fine form, delivering a truly emotive and electrifying performance - as anticipated, but still amazing. The set-list touched on material throughout their entire career, dating all the way back to the first record with an emphasis on the most-recent Skeleton Tree. The finest concert that I have attended.

Beacon show was insane. It would've been better if they let more people closer to the stage, but they had a 5 first rows rule, which prevented me from getting closer, even though Nick himself gestured to get closer and the security stopped me. Ridiculous, but hey at least he acknowledged my presence and it's something I can never forget. If you can, GET as close as you can to the stage and worship him, because then he is at his best. Insane show, insane sound, great set list. 2+ hours. Oh I love him and the seeds so much. I've been to so many concerts and nothing compares. Nothing.

Every show is PHENOMENAL! I enjoy his concerts because he is full of energy and interacts with the audience, & has an amazing sense of humour. He plays his new music, a few classics, then some of the romantics, then a few more classics (Murder Ballads), & keeps going! He did a double encore! Ecstasy! He never fails to give a worthwhile show, & even if there is a tall man in front of you & you can't see stage, it doesn't matter. Last save Nick Cave with the Birthday Party in Sydney in 1979, and I was surprised to see he still rocked hard in SF this week. Was expecting more of his ballads and there were a few but most of the set was more rock and roll. We were close to the front and the mix sounded a bit muddy down there. Nick had a school choir for some of the songs but could not hear them at all most of the time. Nick himself was leaping all over the stage and literally into and on top of the crowd several times. Warren Ellis on violin and guitar was amazing - his bow was totally flayed by the end. Overall a great night.

My first time seeing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and I was totally blown away. He is an incredible stage presence and the Bad Seeds are a top notch band. I've never seen an act get a standing ovation for a third song in a set, but after the band cut loose on the new song "Jubilee Street" people went absolutely insane. The set was well thought out and carefully selected, representing The Bad Seeds' entire catalog. We saw him two weeks before at the second show in the tour, and it was much more angry than this show. I was happy because i was afraid I would cry at a lot of the songs. In Boston, he realized early on that he could not be seen by the balcony when he went off stage to the audience, so for his encore he brought at least 50 or more people on stage for a dance party so we could see him interact and get everyone to "push the sky away." It was a fantastic show, and I can't love him enough. So much we are going to see him a third time on this tour in Europe. Long live Nick Cave!

This is my 4th time seeing NC&BS. He -- they forever amaze me. The energy Nick has, the love he has for his fans. Nick goes into the audience many times, having them hold him up while he stands on the seating. Straight men in awe of him -- ha ha -- got me tear eyed - ha! At the end he called some of the audience up on stage to sing with him. He waltzed with some of the girls. I have never seen a performer interact with the audience like Nick does. Spend the extra $ on close to the stage seats if you can -- you won't be disappointed. Love Warren too. Amazing. Side note, I'm not a big fan of Skeleton Tree so those songs I did not care for but the rest all great choices and performed to the hilt.

Love Nick's presence. I was really into his art recently so was very happy to see a visual aspect to this concert. Nick is an awesome vocalist and his band was a pulsing driving wall of sound. I loved this show.

This was THE best show i've ever been to point blank. Even though the venue was enormous and crowd was huge, Nick Cave made the whole experience extremely intimate. He made the audience feel super special. ALSOOOO, everyone around me kept asserting that they were gonna see him again at another city for the same tour! I can't wait to see him again too. He is literally GOD.

This was my first time seeing NCBS and it did not disappoint! I've never seen a frontman command an audience like Nick Cave, just the absolute best show I have seen. Amazing gig at a beautiful venue!

Incredible show! If you get the chance to go, do it. I promise you won't regret it. Also, get there early as Nick interacts with the audience near the stage all night. I wish I had gotten that advice before I went! I've loved them for 26 years and this was my first show so I didn't know.

Electric. Seriously, it was like the air got sucked out of the room & everyone stopped breathing. I was on the edge of my seat for the duration of the show. Nick is one suave, magnetic showman & his band is amazing. If you ever get the chance to catch them live, DO IT.

This was my first time seeing them in concert and wow, without a doubt, the best concert I've ever seen. I can't wait until they come back around. I understand why there were so many out-of-towners that traveled to see them. The band was tight and sounded fantastic. I don't think I'll ever see another show that can top that one.

To really appreciate Nick I think you need to see him live. He brings it right to the crowd and has a backing band that supports his every move. He may not stage dive like Mr. Osterberg, (Iggy), but he got right into it with the front row fans and by the end of the show came right onto the main floor to serenade the crowd during the encore. Both his intense, dirgy, almost gothic songs and ballads went over well. The only down side to our show was the woman right in front of us in the balcony who acted like she was at a Justin Bieber show and wouldn't stop leaping up and waving her arms like a tween. Nobody else around her appreciated her enthusiasm. In addition she had to use her overly bright smart phone and flash at the beginning of the show.

I have been a Nick Cave fan for a while but never saw him live. I was not a fan of his latest album but the music came alive in his performance. He is a great live performer and I would recommend that anyone who loves live music should make sure and see him if you have the chance.

Hands down the best live performance I've seen, overall. Nick Cave captured the audience's attention from song 1 and held us absolutely mesmerised through to the 2nd encore. So entertaining, great vantage point being up at balcony level, could easily see the entire stage, venue was very cool and ornate - perfect for this type of show. I would absolutely pay far more to get better seats and see Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds again.

This is my one and only introduction to Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and I've been telling everyone and their mother about this gig. He seems to be ageless and the audience absolutely adores him. It was standing room only the entire time at DAR's Constitution Hall in DC. Of course there were seats assigned to us but no one bothered with any of it. He has a magnetic presence and people simply rose up and gravitated towards him. I wish I could've gotten much closer and touched him.

I have been going to see Nick Cave since a 1986 show at the Ritz and I have never experienced a bad gig. He is always on the money and his band are complete professionals. I was floored by this show and I honestly think that the band gets better as they go on. From the sweetest love songs to the full-on assault of Stagger Lee they are never less than amazing.

The incredible energy and charisma that Nick possesses never ceases to amaze me. As a life long fan, I find him constantly evolving; his overall ability to connect, engage and really create an aura of synergy between him, the band and the audience a unique trait. In my view, one of the most talented artists of our generation. Someone I will always admire.
