Billy Connolly

BILLY CONNOLLY IN CONCERT:Sideways-thinking and speed-chatting Scotsman Billy Connolly is a consummate improv performer and storyteller, regaling crowds with off-kilter folk songs and ridiculously circuitous stories for decades. Fans can always expect something weird, canny, and Scottish at his winking live shows as he works his way through new material and old standbys from his expansive discography. Having bounced back from prostate cancer in 2013, he remains an unstoppable force of funny on his 2014 tour.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT: Originally trained as a welder, Glaswegian comic Billy Connolly was inspired to a life of performing after one too many drinks at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Billy has always and will always be very funny. His jokes are better than any I have ever heard from anyone else (female comediennes included). I look forward to seeing him again in the near future. I'm proud to say I am one of his loyal & very devoted fans. He amazes me with his energy because there is no way I could stand up for two and a half hours without taking a break.

For over two hours Billy Connolly took us on a comedy tour. Off we went with one story laughing until our sides ached, then away we went down a side road for a hilarious side story, then back around to where we began. It was an honour to listen to him weave his magic. An evening with Billy Connolly is a treasure

Apart from getting older and a bit grumpier, Billy is still as hilarious as he always was! I've heard that he has a big issue with hecklers, and he did keep bringing them up. It was clear that he didn't want any audience feedback, except laughter. But, there was plenty of that. I am glad that he still likes to get on stage, even after having so much success in Hollywood. Good for him, and good for his fans!

I am a great fan of his. Have some of his original records 20 plus years old. Always enjoyed his tour VHS tapes and his acting performances. However, I didn't think his show did him justice. I was somewhat disappointed though some of it was up to par. Reliance on bad language can be over done. Scotty

I first saw Billy Connolly on HBO when Whoopi Goldberg "introduced" him to America. That was a LONG time ago. That he hasn't really done a lot of US tour dates since then is really a shame. I've probably watched clips of that show well over 200 times, and still to this day laugh so hard I get tears in my eyes. So this was a real treat for me, and to introduce him to others in our group the other night. He's simply amazing, a real one-of-a-kind comedian, and a real person. Over 2 hours just FLEW by, and once again . . . my stomach was cramping from laughing so much and so hard. If you are OK with real people, using real language, and laughing your ass off . . . don't miss this. It may never come again . . .

What a night! My ribs are STILL sore 3 days later from unabated laughter. Billy Connolly has lost nothing over the years - not even his memory, despite trying to convince us otherwise. He's a wonderful story-teller who paints a perfect picture with words around every, humourous anecdote. There's no mean-spiritedness here (unlike Ricky Gervais last week) despite the hilariously vicious verbal attacks on his poor, long-gone school-teacher as well as Maggie Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, just a wonderfully funny stream of consciousness which entertains no one more than its fiercely observant raconteur! The Royal George is THE PERFECT venue for such an intimate artist who obviously relishes close contact with his audience. He was on-stage for almost three hours without a break ( Messrs. Gervais and Ferguson take note) - not a moment lagged. Billy Connolly and Eddie Izzard are neck-and-neck the best Brtish comedians at work today - Craig and Ricky, you should try catching their shows sometime : you'd learn a thing or two! The Union of Welders' loss has thankfully been the Arts' gain and long may it continue. Chanson d'Amour will never sound the same again .......

Billy Connolly is one of the truly great comedians. Most of his fellow comedians are happy to have a 15-30min routine but Billy kept the audience in stitches for almost 2.5hrs on Saturday night. I wondered whether the Americans in the audience would be able to fully understand the accent but the two local ladies beside me were reduced to tears for most of the evening. He confesses he doesn`t actually have an act but the incredible way he weaves and wanders between stories is the sign of a master at the top of his game.

2 1/2 hours of stand up! Billy was is usual rambling self. Probably a little too long (tough enough to be funny for an hour!). He truly is a treasure and the Royal George is a great place to see him. I don't expect that he will be touring for much longer.

I had only seen Billy's standup once on TV and remember the stories being those anyone could relate to. I also had seen him on TV and remember enjoying the show. However, it was clear my wife and I would have enjoyed this show more if we had visited Scotland or at least knew someone from Scotland. I do not recommend this show to a friend since I don't know anyone from that area. Fortunately, there were definitely some good laughs that anyone could relate to, but my wife and I were hoping for more....I regret not looking into Billy's typical standup's before purchasing the tickets.

I've enjoyed watching Billy Connolly for many years, both his comedy and in his film roles. Just like your favorite uncle, he is always welcome and you just want him to go on forever with whatever story, stories, or bits and pieces he happens to be talking about. I loved seeing him live, especially in such an intimate setting as the Royal George Theatre. I also loved the groups of British ex-pats in the audience. Brilliant!

Billy Connolly looked like he had just rolled out of bed and was so disjointed during his story telling that you began to wonder if he was still drunk or high from the night before. There were a few laugh-your-***-off moments, but they were few and far between. I drove 4+ hours to see the show and was VERY excited about the front row tickets. Should have just skipped this show and gone out to a nice dinner with my wife and son instead.

He was right on telling stories that would have been boring with anyone else teling it but he made it and told it in a way that kept the audience laughing the entire time. Billy started down a path of a story but you could never tell when he was going to take an off ramp to tell you something he just thought of which wqas funny. He always made it back to his story and finished it but watching him onstage you could tell his mind was racing a mile a minute. All in all it was fantastic!!!

Billy Connelly is (present tense) a wonderful comedian. He remains the sprightly, charming, slightly mad storyteller we all know and love. His show did wax and wane after the first vibrant hour, but he kept pulling the crowd back on his side with his mischievous grin and flamboyant Scottish cursing. I did think he should have ended perhaps 15-20 minutes earlier (the show was over 2 hours long) and left the audience baying for more instead of hoping for a last big laugh from a tired Tuesday night crowd. That is my only criticism. I would recommend this stripy-panted yarnster to anyone.

Billy Connolly is absolutely wonderful. He is so funny! He reminds me a lot of my grandfather (although my grandfather came from Ireland, not Scotland). Billy tells stories, and then remembers something else, and my grandfather was just like that. I wanted a relaxing evening of fun, and that's what I got with Billy. I am a single parent of a special needs child, and my life is often stressful. Thank you Billy for giving me an enjoyable evening out with my friends. I laughed out loud a lot, and got an evening to be myself and not just my son's mother. I hope you are very successful this week and that the theater is packed every night.

Great to see the BIG YIN in Chicago again,I believe it must be 15 years since he was last here. I think he performed the exact same show as well! He is naturally funny, just opening his mouth makes me laugh, but I found the show to be too long a and his story's not as funny,he did no new stuff, everything has been done in the past. The story about his sister wasn't funny when he first did it! and it's less funny when you hear it again. My opinion is if you are going to tour and do old stuff, then do funny old stuff! Crucifixion anyone! At the same time I realize how hard it is to entertain people for over two hours, and he does make a great effort. My wife and daughter absolutely loved the show.

First, this man is hilarious.* His jokes touch on every subject no matter how grim (recent Parkinson's diagnosis), how surprising (his love of the Irish), or how taboo (the four letter "C-word"). While this may not be a show to take the kids to, it is definitely one to begin/cap off a great date night.* Second, for a hobbit, this man has a stage presence that is bigger than any room he enters. He commands the stage and uses every bit of it for handsomely executed comedic effect. Finally, his stories aren't few, his tangents don't meander, and his penchant for self-deprecation reassures you that you're not alone.* Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go pop in "The Boondock Saints" and appreciate the Irish while I reminisce about Scotland and all its gifts to America. Thanks for a great night, Billy. #thatswhatshesaid :) *As long as you have a sense of humor

A wonderfully entertaining evening. Like sharing an evening with a friend but a very, very, very funny friend with a sharp insightful wit even able to make hilarious fun of unfortunate circumstances. Never stopped laughing all night. This is the 2nd time we have been able to see him live and we sincerely hope this is not the last opportunity we get because of his health issues. Firstly and most importantly we need him to keep strong for himself and his family. Secondly he so clearly loves sharing himself with his audience I would worry for him if he wasn't able to continue. The world needs a talent such as Billy to stay in this world forever and make us laugh even in adversity.

I went with my brother and we have listened to everything that we can get our hands on that is Billy Connolly related from watching his sitcom back in the 90s BILLY to Humblebums songs and downloads of all his stand-up. After coming home and reading some reviews I was disappointed that the parts that my brother and I enjoyed the most, i.e. his tangents and having to be reminded as to what he was talking about, were the best moments. I thought he was spot on. For having been doing this since the 60s and 70s he is the most impressive "FUNNY FOLK SINGER" although not too much folk singing anymore. My little boy plays the mouth organ because of him. I absolutely adored the concert and would recommend him to anyone, well anyone who can take a joke.

Having watched Billy Connolly for almost 40 years I was wondering if the onset of age and his fight with Parkinson's Disease would allow him to perform to his usual standard, and, while his movement is now restricted, his mind and his humor are as sharp as ever. While there were odd moments where it seemed he was taking a pause to regain his train of thought, he still has the awareness and timing to berate unruly patrons or late comers, and at the drop of hat changed subjects to go into a completely different monologue and then return to his original story, just as he has always done. Altogether an extremely funny, and for the most part original, couple of hours. As usual with Billy there were too many funny parts and stories too remember the day after, but the enjoyment and laughter will not be forgotten.

I have seen Billy Connolly several times but have to say this one was the best ever. As a irish woman he brought me back to his comedy and reminded me of all the childhood experiences - even my Scottish granny would approve. He kept it clean bar the C word but used it appropriately when needed. His story of the uncle doing the Santa gig had me running to the toilet. Be careful of arriving late you will be a target and I am glad he does this as its so distracting to have to move several times for later arrivals. Wilbur seats really tiny and uncomfortable but he gave us over 2 full hours and best value ever Thanks Billy even though the ole Health is not so good the way you gracefully address it into the routine was appreciated - you are a true genius

Billy Connolloy's comedy show opened with a standing ovation upon his just walking onto the stage. He then interacted with much aplomb with the audience as if he were in their living rooms having a light-hearted, yet gut wrenching conversation, of which all attendees could not withhold their non-stop laughter. He shared topics of all sorts from his personal (serious) health issues to his stories of home and abroad. This man is a precious gift to the world and helps to enlighten all who come in contact with him. Hopefully he'll be around long enough to share his optimistic and humoristic visions with many for years to come.

There is no doubt that Billy Connolly is a very funny man. The first half of his show was as good as anything I have seen on stage but he seemed to run out of material or energy about half way through the performance. The second part was nowhere near as funny or as good. His obvious health problems probably contributed.

Brought a friend who enjoyed every moment. I have loved the big yin since the 70s. A little sad to not see him bounce around the stage like he used to. Illness has not slowed down this magnificent talent! Cheers!

One word is really all that's needed. I'm not quite 100 but I have been around for awhile. That means I've seen a lot of comedians. Billy is simply amazing! Review is done. I hope he is still able to tour after this run - I'll take the family again to see him.

I haven't laughed so long and so hard for a long time. This was the first time we've seen him live on stage and will always remember it. I love Billy Connolly and could have listened to him for hours! He's the funniest man on the planet!

As good as he was twenty-five years ago at the Lyceum. Standard a bit uneven (as it was back then, too) but I came away with face-ache from laughing so much.

Billy Connolly is still the funniest man I have ever seen in concert. I have seen quite a few comedians but he is by far the best. I saw him over 20 years ago in Australia and I remember I was laughing so hard that I literally had to hold my side. The same thing happened twice this night as well. Even so, it felt as if he had finished too soon, however he made us laugh for almost two hours. It is sort of like being at a party with that one funny guy everyone gathers around, except this party had several thousand people there.

Billy Connolly is classic. Just telling stories, making me laugh so hard I cried. Touching on his illness, leaving no one unscathed. His expressions make it even better. He is a great actor! I'm glad I got to see this gem live. The best laughs I've had in a long time. I can still see him standing up there, the guy at the side of the stage, etc.

Laughed my ass off the entire show! Not for the faint of heart, those easily insulted or anyone that might hold something sacred as Billy will laugh attack it all the same! This is the second time we saw Billy having watched him a couple of years ago in San Francisco (2 hour non-stop, side-busting tour of force show). Seeing him perform so soon after the SF performance was well worth it as he only covered a couple of the same jokes and the other material worth every extra penny! If you need a good laugh, don't mind offensive language, or jokes about religion, sex, etc you won't regret seeing him live! He has an amazing knack of telling a true but funny story, going off on tangents, only to come back to tale with an upper cut punch of an ending.

Given the recent health issues Mr. Connolly has faced, you might go into this show expecting a more reserved and reflective performance. #&@ that! He brought his familiar subversive style of comedy to the Montalban Theater, and then turned it up to 11. Taking the audience on a two-hour journey inside his mind, Mr. Connolly weaved stories within stories, like a favorite uncle--loveable, but pissed off. Not to be missed.

Rumors of his ill-health and ageing issues became subjects for Billy to use to have us howling with laughter over. If he if forgetful then there was no sign of it on Saturday night. Unforgettable was the way to describe his performance.

Billy Connolly was in great form, Not sure what the negative reviewers were watching but BC was excellent. Funny as ever and he had the crowd in stitches. PS I hate ticketmaster with all there crooked greedy charges. Just wish there was another way to get tickets.
