It was an artsy fartsy night at the Orpheum Theater, 10/02/2010 as Yoko Ono and her son Sean Lennon and the Plastic Ono band held a tribute concert. The concert is ostensibly a pre-birthday bash for John Lennon (09 Oct 1940-08 Dec 1980). It was a mixed crowd of activists, socialites, hangers-on, and dreamers who all sport their own styles and fashion statements. Amongst the crowd were Lady Gaga look-alikes, hippies, and anti-war groupies. Yoko Ono is in her finest form and,if it is any indication, she has found her audience finally. Yoko, after all these years (she is 77 years old), has not mellowed, remains unapologetic and rocked harder like there is always tomorrow. The concert is a great showcase of Yoko's avant garde and musical art. Among her guests on 10/02/2010, Lady Gaga easily captured the audience attention. She played two songs with Yoko to the delight of her and Yoko's fans. Lady Gaga wore a sequined body suit that exposes her "derriere," obviously a send up to Yoko's film "bottoms." In her song with Yoko, Gaga gamely turned to the audience "mooning" the crowd! Yoko Ono was more than raring to showcase her "vocal art." In deed, most of the numbers include her howling pieces and halfway through the show, one cannot help hope that she also render some of her more lyrical songs including "revelation," "kiss kiss kiss," and many others. Yoko's live rendition of "rising" was very dramatic and is the highlight of the concert for me. The closing rendition of "Give Peace a chance" was a great finale to the event with all the guests giving their own personal messages within the song.

one of the best concerts i've ever seen. a melding of history, activism, avant garde music, performance art & broadway. yoko is a fiery, funny, charismatic angel who pushes the envelope of thinking. sean is the most perfect musical partner she's ever had. lady gaga is now one of my favorite singers in the world. but some of the other performers. thurston moore & kim gordon. godhead! the pair who did 'we're all water'. stunning. carrie fischer ('leah' as she said) a shocking & wonderful surprise. the films, going back to 'bottoms,' 'fly'...i feel like my lifelong admiration of yoko has been thoroughly validated for all but the very most narrow-minded to see. sean's duet on the one non-ono song of the evening, his dad's 'oh yoko," with (paul simon's son) harper simon was delightful. the closing 'give peace a chane' was stirring. yoko's breathtaking "16 track voice" is one of the world's most fascinationg, original & revolutionary instruments in the world. her apassion is fearless & the emotions she reaches for & shares with her audience are egoless.as ann magnusin said, "why else would the coolest guy on earth fall in love with her?" dear yoko, bless you.

Yoko and Sean were amazing, and John's spirit was in the room. It was very cathartic for me. She sang of losing him. She is gentle and playful and energetic. Sean is a great musician, plays beautiful guitar. For the 2nd encore we all sang, "Give Peace a Chance".

I have been to quit a few concerts, but this was the worst concert I have ever attended.. The band was good ,but YOKO ONO was Terrible, just a lot of Screeching noise! I have never seen here before or heard her,but I will never see her again! Maybe I'M getting to Old and just can't appreciate her Screeching ? The drummer on the first part of the show did a great job! I thought her son did a good job.

Great show. Opening video was almost worth the price of admission. Sean has become a better musician. it was great to see him and his mom. Yoko rocks at 76! Still a performance artist. Wonderful special evening! Give peace a chance.

To sum up Yoko' s music in words is impossible. One must experience. This show was no exception. Instead of a usual review, I will only comment on the production. Sean Lennon brought Yoko's muse in many mediums (film, active-on stage conceptuals, Onochord flashlights, and music). The show was intimate, and a labor of love. Every participant poured their soul. The two part show format only gave a hint (when the first part ended) of what to expect. It was an element of flux, for this listener did not know what the second part would bring. What it brought was Yoko's contemporaries sharing a musical palate rather than outstaging. Yoko is young, her muse is aboundant, and her delivery goes straight to your heart and soul, with every note taking one along her journey of discoveries past and present. I wept during Rising.

What a show! I am still glowing from the whole experience. Yoko was pure emotion with an energy that is enviable. Art is suppose to transmit feeling, and I could feel the joy, pain, and love in every moan and scream. All this would have not been possible without the amazing band; under the musical direction of Sean. Along side the multi-instrumentalist Sean, was the always lovely Yuka Honda, the guys from Mi-gu (what a drummer!), and alternative rock's version of Hendrix: Nels Cline. Just superb, and the sound at the Orpheum was great. If you're looking to hear John Lennon's songs, this might not be the show for you. But if you love good music, and Yoko, then you can't miss this show.

Yoko is almost 78 years old, and has the energy of a teenager. Two very exciting and moving shows on the 1st and 2nd of October, under the musical direction of brilliant, multi-instrumental son Sean Lennon - and two of the best shows I've ever seen. The first night, she was joined by Iggy Pop, and the two of them were jumping all over the stage together like a couple of kids. Lady Gaga showed up the second night, and she and Yoko rolled around on the piano like Michelle Pfeiffer in "The Fabulous Baker Boys." All of this, plus film and video of Yoko's life and career as musician, songwriter, poet, muse, and avant-garde artist, opening with the moving a cappella song "It Happened'," followed by a ballsy, hard rock "Why?" - backed by some fine, fine musicians. Carrie Fisher, Perry Farrell, Rza, and others contributed some great renditions of Yoko's songs, particularly the Tune-Yards' version of "We're All Water' from the underrated "New York Rock." A highlight for me was definitely Sean and Harper Simon's lovely acoustic version of John Lennon's "Oh Yoko." Great fun, amazing musicians, and a very happy Yoko. John was certainly proud.

arriving with a video montage of the past, yokos contemporary art remains awe inspiring. We know from coming through where we've been we now are, and Yoko exemplifies this with her music. Most memorable for me were here opening words "I don't know how it happened, it happened when I least expected it.., but it happened." and other advice for a post-apocalyptic soothing agent "trust your intuition...we are all here together!" Her flashlight piece I LOVE YOU, and singing give peace a chance while dissecting today's newspaper. Ah, Yoko, you continue to inspire many. Thanks for being the indie version of Amma, spreading peace and love through sound and art forms.

I have been a fan of Yoko Ono's music for thirty years, but this was the first time that I saw her live. Prior to her appearance, the Deerhoof performance was warm and cute and spirited. But when the Plastic Ono Band appeared, wow! The whole theater went ecstatic. Beyond the music itself, the visuals were stunning. There were clips from Yoko's films, Cut Piece, Bottoms, and Fly. There were also a variety of new animated pieces. The music was quirky, lush, spacey, and beautiful! Yoko's voice was right on. I have never considered her shrill or a screecher. Instead, she did things with air that sound like many types of birds, sometimes sorrowful, sometimes joyful. Her lyrics are were always engaging and relevant. She had a lot of intelligent things to say about the human condition. Sean's guitar playing was right on! The other musicians were equally imaginative and expressive. They handled the improv sections with grace and precision. They seemed to really know how to work with Yoko. All of us had little flashlights on our chairs, imprinted with the title of one of Yoko's conceptual pieces, "Onochord." Also printed was "Oakland, y.o. 2010." It was great seeing all of the lights flickering around the theater. Really, they were the icing on the cake for an otherwise magical and uplifting evening. :-{D}

Yoko Ono has had a long and prolific career as an artist. I'm not sure there were many others doing the type of performances she crafted in the early 60s. Her work at the UFO club in London is legendary. The images of her sitting and staring at John Lennon during the last Beatles sessions did not help her reputation and I think many peeps have misinterpreted that--I'm a big fan of Yoko Ono's and even I roll my eyes at that. But they did embark on an amazing journey together. Two Virgins, the bed in, the deportation fight, NYC--images well represented in the bio film that opened the show. And, then there was the music. When she came out and delivered It Happened, it was an exercise in visceral shock and awe. From there, her 40 yrs of recording were well represented, including numbers from her new collection Between my Head and the Sky. Sean Lennon led a very tight band--an art mafia in itself. He mentioned playing with the big guns (like Eric Clapton) during their Brooklyn show a week earlier, and then said he was much more comfortable playing with his friends on stage. More directly put, there's a big difference between nostalgia and reworking. (I'm also a big fan of the Yoko remixes that have been surfacing over the last few years.) It's hard to resist Yoko Ono's world and the scope of emotions captured in her art. All in all, this was a fantastic event--visually, sonically, and with a lot of soul. They are the Plastic Ono Band! Come back soon.

The Plastic Ono Band that Yoko assembled (no doubt with help from her son Sean, also in the band) are an accomplished group of musicians who do an excellent job of providing the background for Yoko's unique musical style. Every song is memorable, and not just because of Yoko's singing. The audience is very supportive of the players and you can feel the love being shared. Sean is relaxed and very attentive to both his mom, the band, and drop-ins (Harper Simon, Deerhoof) - a wonderful master of ceremonies. It was an awesome show. Definitely worthwhile for Yoko fans!! Don't miss it if you get a chance to see them.

For those interested in art for art's sake and open to the unusual - this show would be a worthwhile experience. In traditional terms, Yoko and her son Sean are not good singers, but they are expressive and passionate. So, in non-traditional terms, they convey their artform effectively. I must say that Sean is a fine guitar player!

The concert began with about 15 minutes of video footage from Yoko Ono's life, including many home videos with John Lennon and their son, Sean (some of which I'd never seen before). The band Sean put together as the "new" Plastic Ono Band was top-notch, and he said he felt more comfortable playing with them than he did with the all stars (Clapton, Klaus Voorman) a couple weeks ago in Brooklyn. I was not familiar with most of the songs they performed, and Yoko screamed and moaned more than she sang, but it was all so well timed. She also moves as though she were 20 years younger, rather than a 76 year old. The show ended with an encore of Give Peace a Change, the lyrics of which were updated to reflect current events.

Yoko is an icon. I have loved her work for the last 40 years and last night was no disappointment. The Plastic Ono Band a wonderful job backing up this Senior Rocker. As everyone knows Yoko turned 77 last Friday and at times looked every bit her age but love and spirit she exuded was ageless.

An epic show. It revealed Yoko's signature integrity and tender composure. She and her son Sean displayed their love for each other and for the everlasting language of art . They proved how this language, when mastered, can translate and evoke undescribable thoughts and emotions. The premises of revoltionary love and steadfast commintment to the spirit of universal peace, were the most poignant and potent for me. She isn't easy to listen to but it is critical that we hear her!

Yoko Ono and the new Plastic Ono Band clearly demonstrated that age is no barrier to Ono's special brand of Rock and Roll. Or is she better classified as jazz? It's so difficult to pigeon-hole her, but what ever you call it, she did it at the Fox, and she did it well. For me, highlights of the show included "Death of Samantha," "Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's only looking for her hand in the snow)," "Rising," "Fly," and a truly fantastic rendition of "Walking on Thin Ice." The last encore was done using "Onochord," which are tiny flashlights (there was one in every seat when we entered the theatre); The audience is instructed to continuously flash the lights -- one flash for "I," two flashes for "love," and three flashes for "you" (get it?). While Onochord was happening, the bands (both Plastic Ono Band and the opening act, Deerhoof) sang John Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance," with the audience singing the chorus. A totally positive experience from beginning to end.

OK, I can now die! Quick review: Yoko was amazing. For 77 years of age, she still has lungs, like when she started her primal therapy 40 years ago. Only criticism: she didn't do her political stuff from "Sometime In NYC" like "Angela" or "We're All Water". The new Plastic Ono Band (consisting of Japanese-band "Cornelius") were tight in rythm and style, and they accompanied Yoko well. (And, the one guitar player was so cute). But, what was truly amazing was Sean Lennon. Not only is he a accomplished musician on guitar and piano, he was hauntingly similar to his father in vocal range and delivery. Ended the show (second encore) with "Give Peace a Chance." If I wasn't such a cynical person, I would have cried. Truly unique, the opening band "Deerhoof" did a version of Can Heat's "Going Up The Country," which was a stark style difference from anything they did earlier in the night (like the difference between Picasso's earlier and later works)... If I was to describe the show in general terms - think of Yoko signing during a space jam by the Grateful Dead. Oh, and I almost forgot the visual background images of Yoko's creative career was the sweet topping on the cake. Of course, opinions differed. A shout out for Michael who braved the concert with me.. He said it was probably the most awful thing he ever had to voluntarially sit through... I guess you have to understand Yoko to have enjoyed the show...

The minute I saw Yoko Ono was coming to the Fox Theatre, I knew I needed to see her. She has always pushed the edges fearlessly. And she was great - what a performer! The Plastic Ono Band was fabulous, and Sean Lennon is an amazing musician. And the guy who played the weird instruments! Wow. The audience was kids to 70's, and all had a rocking good time.

Going into this concert, I thought I knew what to expect. Aside from knowing her tragic history with John Lennon, I had also watched a few of her performances on youtube and read up on her performance art history on youtube. She seemed a bit out there, but I didn't expect anything too extreme. She was, after all, pretty old. As I watched her go full throttle into her first screamer song, I realized that I couldn't have been more wrong. While Yoko's music was often deafening to the ears with its loud moans and penetrating screams, one could not deny how badass it was to see a tiny 77-yr old Asian woman rocking out, so in the moment. She was engaging, intense, and so whether this avant-garde music was to one's tastes or not, one couldn't deny the electrifying energy of it. Overall, I would say that Yoko's music isn't for everyone...or even for most people. If you're looking for easy entertainment, a fun and pleasant time, then this is probably not the concert for you. However, if you're willing to open your mind to a artistic, avant-garde musical experience, not to mention see a living icon, than I'd give Yoko a shot, for sure.

YOKO ONO's son SEAN had a brilliant idea when he suggested resurrecting the band name father/husband JOHN LENNON used for ONO's music performances in the late '60s and early '70s. A tradition of astonishing music has become a wellspring of inspiration for YOKO's current performances, which blend the old and new styles so seamlessly that it is impossible to separate them out. Old fans and new fans will be amazed at the depth and beauty of the new PLASTIC ONO BAND experience!

As a lifelong Beatles/Lennon fanatic, I jumped at the chance to see Yoko Ono, along with her son Sean, live & in concert. Obviously, this kind of show is going to appeal to a niche crowd, one that has an open mind & allows themselves to be taken along for the ride on Yoko's trip. And what a trip it was, from start to finish. It was a finely crafted show of avant-garde cabaret, a celebration of life, survival & rock & roll. At 77 yrs old, Yoko was sprightly & enigmatic, exuding an impish charm as she twirled, wailed and pranced around the stage. Sean Lennon was a revelation, an amazingly talented man who jumped from bass, to drums, to piano, to guitar, to gentle, self-deprecatory, witty MC. Complimenting them was a crack team of musicians, including Wilco lead guitarist, Nels Cline, who Sean called "the best guitarist on the planet," and it's hard to argue with that. There was such great talent that paraded across the stage all evening: Harper Simon (son of Paul), Carrie Fisher, uber-bassist Mike Watt & Perry Farrell all turned up. Yoko & Sean were warm with the audience, telling stories between songs, cracking jokes, their obvious closeness with one another a sweet thing to behold. The highlight for me was the moment Iggy Pop, another veteran survivor of life & stage, joined Yoko for a couple of songs. There was an affectionate camaraderie between the two, that was a joy to watch. Iggy, decked out in chic black slacks for the occasion, couldn't help but grin continuously. The show concluded with an all-star jam session, when all the guests from the evening were brought onstage for a spirited rendition of "Give Peace a Chance." Audience members sang along, holding aloft their free "Onochord" flashlights that had been handed out at the door. It was a very memorable evening that I'll never forget. Thanks Yoko.

I've never heard much of Yoko singing before, but went mainly because she is historic. To see her perform with Sean, then add the special guests to the bill, it was a fabulous night. I paid $175 for front row and wouldn't change it for the world. She is in great shape and pretty sharp-witted for her age of 77! Oh, what could have been if John Lennon hadn't been taken from us so long ago.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought tickets for this concert. I am a huge John Lennon and Sean Lennon fan but was not too familiar with Yoko's work other than her music on the Double Fantasy album. I was surprised with how much I liked her music. The concert was split into two acts. The first part, which I liked better than the second, was all sung by Yoko and featured video clips of her life and art. After the intermission many other artists took turns on the stage with her, adding a twist to her songs. One of the most memorable moments was after the first song when Yoko thanked the audience for the applause and said she had written that particular song 40 years ago. I was shocked - the song was so modern rock! This woman was 40 years ahead of her time! The concert was unlike any other I have ever seen. Yoko Ono is on a level of her own. Although some of her voice techniques may not be considered "singing" I felt drawn in to the emotion she emitted in each song. It was enchanting! I regret that I did not become familiar with her work years ago but am proud to call myself a Yoko fan now.

the talent was amazing. it was awesome to see Yoko. she has lived through more than most people even imagine. Ha Ha get it Imagine. any way . I hate to say this but the artistry of the scream singing is a little hard to take. at first it was art and a few songs were perfect then it kind of got in the way of showcasing all the incredible talent that was on the stage with her. If she had not sung with most of her guests then it would have raised my opinion of the concert from four to 5 stars. she should sing a couple of songs then dance and play the tambourine while sean and the crew takes over. He is very beautiful and talented.

Saturday, October 2nd at the Orpheum Theater I witnessed something close to nirvana. Yoko Ono and her band were out of this world! The music transcended so many boundaries of popular music yet at the same time it was familiar and inspiring. Set against the backdrop of the opulent Orpheum theater the audience was treated to a host of guest appearences by an eclectic mix of stars including; Carrie Fisher, Vincent Gallo, Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon and Lady Gaga who slinked onto the stage and took us to musical heaven, belting out monsterous vocals and oozing with charisma. Sean Lennon showed his amazing talents as musical director while alternating his time between guitar, bass and drums. A musical high point of the evening was Lennon singing a duet of his father's song, 'Oh Yoko,' in blissful genetic brilliance. The last song of the night was, 'Give Peace a Chance,' with all the guests taking turn on lead vocals and wallowing in the glow of Yoko Ono, who at 77 years of age is still a youthful spirit.

This was an interview, not a musical performance. She was interesting, she seemed to be relatively honest, although the answers had probably been given over the years. There were no "secrets" revealed, but it was a great opportunity to be with just about 200 people in the Grammy Museum little lecture hall to have the closest connection to John we will ever have. Only disappointment: They did NOT let us see the John Lennon exhibit in the museum, which was opening the next day---you had to be a Grammy Museum member to see the exhibit--that was not fair.

Absolutely incredible! When you attend a Yoko show, you know you are in the presence of a legend. From beginning to finish, the energy was electrifying and kept the audience shouting out 'I love you'-s and singing along to "Give Peace A Chance". It was beautiful and inspiring. I never thought I would take so much away from a concert!

there are no words to explain this show!!!! it was amazing...Yoko, Sean, and all the special guests rocked the house..this was not just a concert.. it was " A HAPPENING.".If you were there..then you know exactely what i am talking about...Yoko is the #1 avante garde artist in the world...and such a talent..a talent beyond recognition..when the film they were showing...said..no wonder the coolest man in the world fell in love with her...well, that says it all...her music is 25+ years ahead of its time..she will go down in history just like john, the beatles, and others...if you are not a fan...give her a chance..you will thank me...I love you Yoko, I love you, Sean, and i love you John...John was in the house, watching over his extraordinary wife and his beautiful boy, Sean....It kills me daily, to think that one senseless act of insanity took John from all of us..it is almost imagineable to think what these 30 years with john in all of our lives could have been.... IMAGINE.

Yoko Ono was absolutely at the top of her game. Her voice, her band, and her appearance was nothing short of a historical occasion. She has the energy of a person decades younger. Her back-up band, including Sean Lennon, was flawless. Sean is quite a musician in his own right. Among the several others performing with her, were two of my favorites: Carrie Fisher and Lady Gaga. They were stunning. Yoko Ono appeared on stage throughout the 3-hour long concert. Bravo!

Looking like a character from Tim Burton's nightmare before Xmas in her oversized top hat with orange band and diamond pin, the otherwise petit Yoko Ono, 77, strutted her stuff back and forth across the stage, gracing us lucky Angelenos with an in-person demonstration of her Avant Guard experimentalism in performance art-- She's still out there after all these years! Caution: Ear plugs could be useful in the louder cathartic shrieking sections....but it's a crazy world... and Ono's sounds that come from the depth of her soul -- reflect the primal chaos of real life. Sean Lennon, too modest for words, worked his musical madness in the shadows...please give the guy some spotlights..... He needs to use pauses when introducing the amazing musical guests so we can hear over the approval of the roaring crowd in this concert performance without any program notes.... The name of Sean and Yoko's favorite new group escaped me-- but not their talent and message: Guy's who were those 'masked' maniacs ( a woman with guitarist and feedback machine)??? Carrie Fisher put the right punch and anger into Yoko's lamentation over a straying husband--it was just painfully powerful... Speaking of power--Lady Gaga--electrified the house----with or without costume affects--she is a powerhouse of energy and talent plus brains--no wonder Yoko and Sean picked her to rev up the 2nd half....

I was transfixed by the Plastic Ono Band event. I had no idea what to expect, and went to the show with curiosity my main impetus. What an engaging and wonderful experience I was lucky enough to have been there for! It was refreshing, avant garde, had wonderful musicians and guest stars. Yoko was terrific, her unusual vocals strong and wild. She is lithe, beautiful, fashionable, arty, funny.Sean Ono Lennon played several different instruments, sang, and directed, all with great joy and energy.. Early, rare films of John and Yoko made me cry. Fascinating. I loved every minute. I bravely placed my yes on 19 flyer in the wish trees that Yoko had set up in the lobby, with tags and pencils for the people to write their wishes down and tie them to a branch. I then made a wish to meet Yoko....and tied it to her wish tree. Thank you Yoko and Sean!

It was inspiring! All the different friends made it so fun and surprising. Lady Gaga was incredible. Playing a piano with her spikes and other parts of her body. Such command of the music and her voice, phenomonal. Loved seeing Sean Lennon perform. So much like his father. Loved Yoko's comment, " A Woman has her own Voice". Trips down memory lane, avante garde rock was just memorable, exhilerating, and FUN

I loved John Lennon. I thought John and Yoko were a perfect match and their relationship was an amazing one. I think Sean Lennon is a very good and versatile musician and has a great ear. Yoko is a renegade performance artist and I admire her for breaking through the gender limitations of her time, with ground breaking creative expression. But if I had my way Yoko would not be allowed to open her mouth when music is being played in her immediate vicinity. She has no musicality whatsoever and cannot produce even one sound that is pleasing to the ear. It's truly unbelievable that some honest person in her world wont take her to the side to let her know this fact. There were times during the concert when I was in pain. And yet I sat through the whole thing. WHY?... because she's Yoko Ono, Legend.

The show was awful, shame on Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon for putting on such an awful, un-organized and ridicules show. Yoko celebrates John 70th birthday, by showcasing her music not his. I don t think you can call what Yoko does as singing, its sounds more like a dolphin out of water. Like most of the audience, we went to see Lady Gaga; but was very disappointed that she only sang two songs, both written by Ono. The 5 minutes chest game, the video of the fly walking on Yoko naked body, One performer reading the words of the songs from a paper he placed on the stage, then the god awful version of Give Peace a chance this was they worth concert I have been to ever.

It's very hard to express in words the event that was We Are Plastic Ono Band. Presented in two sets, the first half focused on Yoko's solo material, supported by an outstanding band conducted by Sean Lennon. Her vocal style is unique, and you either appreciate it or you don't, but there's no arguing with her artistic expression and talent. The second was built around several special guests that were there to interpret Yoko's work, including Carrie Fisher, RZA, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Perry Ferrell, Mike Watt and Iggy Pop. An encore of "Give Peace a Chance" included an emotional audience sing-along. A one-of-a-kind experience that I will remember for years to come.

Firstly I was excited to go to a show where I did not know exactly what was going to happen. The Orpheum theater is beautiful and a perfect setting for the avant garde spectacle that is 'The Plastic Ono Band'. Yoko is such the gentle leader, a female Gandhi of the music world, bringing us new and unusual things to think about and change our thoughts about things and yet in a simple, honest way. Only once did I take my eyes off the stage and that was to close them so that I could really listen to the performance. As an audience member I felt we were all really together. Yoko and Sean have a way of making you feel very welcome and part of the show. I will never forget this performance and I am so glad we made the drive from San Diego to go. Oh one more thing. You can really tell the difference between East coast performers and most West coast performers. East coast seem to have a Vaudevillian, anything can happen feel to them. A feeling like you are truly seeing a one of a kind performance. Thank you Plastic Ono Band!

Yoko Ono has done it again and Los Angeles is blessed because of it! An incredible evening of cutting-edge performances, retro-Yoko film and pleasant surprises. The first half of the show began with a film of several of Yoko's infamous performance art pieces. What great memories. Then Yoko walked out onto the stage and sang a song about John Lennon that was heart-wrenching. Yoko took it up a notch for the rest of the first half, performing with her amazing band (including son, Sean at the Bass). The second half of the featured many guest stars including Iggy Pop, Carrie Fischer and Perry Farrell. Each song in the second half of the show was introduced by Sean Lennon, often with an interesting anecdote about how it was written. The show ended with Yoko asking each guest performer to add their own verse (relevant to today) to "Give Peace a Chance". Brilliant!

The show opened with a short film about Ono, showing the historical and personal contexts for her work. The music in the first half featured Ono singing backed by Sean Lennon and the band Cornelius plus the keyboardist from Cibo Matto. There was more of her trademark quasi-ululating than I'd expected, but there were melodic pieces as well. The band was AMAZING. The second half featured other artists performing Ono's works, with occasional collaboration by Ono. Highlights included Joseph Gordon Levitt performing "Yes, I'm Your Angel" with two women dressed as angels, a Broadway-style performance by Carrie Fisher, and "We're All Water" by the Tune-Yards. The sound was a little disappointing. We were in the balcony, and it seemed like the overall sound was aimed lower. Also, there were problems with the sound for some of the guest stars--notably Perry Farrell, who was barely audible.

Leading a terrific ensemble of praise-worthy musicians Sean Lennon showed his musical chops, excelling on bass, piano and other instruments. A lively Yoko had a ball in this rare showcase for her admittedly avant garde material, encompassing music, film and visual arts. Iggy Pop proved a worthy set closer, as he joined Yoko for a spirited "Waiting For A DJ". Give Peace A Chance was a worthy encore, with various artists contributing their own just-written lyrics

Frankly I didn't know what to expect. Don't get me wrong I'm an admirer of Ms. Yoko Lennon! I know some songs, however I didn't know what the whole night would be like. I believe because of the brilliant producer and musician Sean Lennon the show was momentous! The band was awesome!! I especially like the drummer, she was truly sensational!! Yuka Honda was also a great standout! Star power, WOW!!! In addition to Ms. Ono-Lennon, Sean Lennon, Carrie Fisher (even though her Father just passed), Perry Farrell from Jane's Addiction, and also especially Iggy Pop!!! It was truly as the promo described "a treat for (a) Los Angeles audience". This is one of the handful of experiences I've had moving to Los Angeles a long time ago that has made it worthwhile! Truly, Thank YOU! God Bless YOU!!!
