GO! I'm a bit biased as The Frames are my fav band, but they're simply brilliant. All 5 bring the best out of one another to create a sound that is irresistible. Bottom line.. you don't want to miss them.

The Frames were awesome! Great energy! There were some SUPER obnoxious people next to us and I really wish the bouncers would have kicked them out, but what can you do? Otherwise, I would definitely see them again!

I've been a Frames fan for a long time, but this was my first time ever seeing them live. From reputation alone I knew it would be a good show, but I was amazed at just how great Glen and the boys were. They've been doing this for 15-20 years now, and it's clear that they have learned how to work a crowd. Always willing to share the spotlight, about half-way through the show Glen brought out a local kid that they had met the night before at a bar. They heard him singing to a crowd of a few dozen, liked what they heard, and put him on stage in front of a sold-out venue to sing one of his original songs. It was clearly a once in a lifetime moment for the guy, and it was very fun to see him deliver well. Sorry I didn't catch your name, if you read this, but you did a fantastic job! Anyways, back to the headliners! Glen Hansard just knows how to interact with a crowd so well, even in a group of a few thousand it felt like just a guy chatting with his mates, lots of comfortable banter between himself and the audience. When it was time to work, the band dished out about two and a half hours of blistering, hook-heavy tunes, the ones we all know and love, sprinkled with a few covers and new songs. Pretty sure I heard at least one Van Morrison cover, and possibly a Will Oldham song, but I didn't recognize them exactly as such - they just had the vibe of those artists, and I know the Frames often do covers of each. I went in hoping to hear some specific songs, such as Santa Maria, People Get Ready, Seven Day Mile, Star Start, etc. They hit all of those and many more. I did miss out on Red Chord as the closer, but so what! Fitzcaraldo was a blistering end to what is probably the best live show I've ever been to, and now I have a good excuse to go see them again.

I knew The Frames were a mixture of ballad and passion and rock, but I had no idea what a bunch of hard rocking maniacs they are. I wasn't sure if they were going to stroke out or I was. I'm 56 and have never been so in awe of a rock band. Glenn is superhuman - it was like he was channeling the Force or something. The fiddle player was almost equally amazing. I couldn't believe how close we were to a great band. For that, Showbox, thanx. My only complaint was a few of the crowd at the Showbox who just wouldn't shut up. During the quiet numbers - there were a few - there constant drunken babble was pretty irritating. Even more so the bartenders who were having a great time talking loudly amonst themselves when the customers were trying to hear the music. The Frames, anytime, the Showbox, not again.

Years ago, I saw an Irish band called The Frames open for Damien Rice. I was hooked. Rice was definitely worth the price of admission, but ever since that show, I had been waiting for The Frames to come back to town. I was concerned that somehow my memory and imagination had embellished that first show in my mind, setting me up for disappointment. I was wrong. I left the show with the only disappointment being the uncertainty of any future opportunities to see the band, again. Now, while I'm a definite fan. I'm not the rabid fan that knows every lyric and every variation they have ever performed from their 20 year song catalog. For that reason, I feel that I'm not writing from the perspective that the band could do anything and please. They WORK to win you over with careful attention to musical dynamics that draw you in with a whisper then sweep you up in a crescendo of thrashing that would make a metalhead's head bob in rhythmic approval. I feel sorry for some in the NYC crowd that were distracted by nearby tone-deaf audience member singers, but they seemed to be diluted by the rest of the crowd in Seattle and the Irish girl standing behind me was spot-on and only added to the ambience! The Frame's musical moments aside, the most unique moment was Glen bringing up a young singer the band had met earlier that day who had been playing to a inattentive clientele at a local pub, handing him his iconic battle-worn acoustic guitar, and bringing him onstage to play a song to the appreciative crowd while the band took a well-deserved break before their first encore.

I love their music and energy but to see them again the sound system would need to be of higher quality. The clarity and crispness of the audio was very poor. They also could have improved the sound had they turned the volume down some. I saw the Swell Season at the Moore several years ago and I know how the music should sound, this was too loud and poor quality.

The Frames and the opening act of Jake Clemons were absolutely wonderful! The Frames and front man, Glen Hansard is always entertaining with fantastic stories and soul wrenching lyrics. The band takes you through a truly musical journey, and with very devoted fans in the audience you can't help but be swept away in the excitement that is The Frames. The opening act of Jake Clemons and band were good, and did get the audience ready to go for the main act. I'm a huge fan and will definitely get my tickets for the next show in New York City!

Great show. Glen was excellent and they played all of the crowd pleasers. I also enjoyed the interaction that they had with the crowd. They only negatives were that they played a lot of very slow songs towards the end of the gig instead of earlier on. I also would have liked to have heard them play the song Fake. Other than that, the acoustics at Terminal 5 weren't great but that wasn't the bands fault. Overall I really enjoyed the concert and would go back again any time they come to town.

I've seen far more bands than I care to admit and The Frames rise above every single one. I'll go so far as to say this was the best show I've ever been to in my life. The Frames pour their energy out from the stage in every note they play until the entire venue is filled with the power of their music. It's impossible to just watch The Frames. Everyone in the room becomes part of the performance and the crowd, no matter how large, becomes an instrument in the music. After the show, a friend joked that she levitated, while another mentioned what it would be like to be so overcome with the power of the band;s performance that one couldn't help but cry out, even in the quietest moments. Considering the band hasn't played together in over two years, and are still able to create this kind of effect, this energy, it's clear just how skilled they all are as musicians, and as a band. 10/10 and then some.

Outstanding show Glen Hansard and the frames are amazing in concert would definitely see them again and would recommend to anyone if given the opportunity to ever see the Frames live I would. Glen Hansard tends to tell a couple of story's in each concert i've seen him in (I saw hime live with the Swell Season) and the story's are worth listening to they are just as great as the music!

Glen and The Frames are always so gracious. They couldn't thank the audience enough for coming out, when in reality we can't thank them enough for coming back to New York to play for us. Thank you!!! The voice, harmonies, lyrics and music are just superb. WOW. The venue was perfect. It's large, but yet small enough for you to feel like you are seeing them at the local town pub. I saw them perform in Jan.'10 at Radio City w/Swell Season. Again, they are great performers, but I got to see them up close and personal at Terminal 5 for 1/3 of the cost at Radio City.

Frames fans have been patiently awaiting another from these guys for years, and the crowd was comparable to anything that you'd see from a Top 40 act. Having previously seen Jake Clemons play with The Swell Season, I was worried that his music would be a bit too jazz-oriented to fit with the mood. I couldn't have been more wrong. His band is a tight unit, and he had the crowd singing, clapping, and stomping with the grace of a true frontman. And then there were The Frames. Smiling and laughing all the while as though they could go back in time twenty years and harness the energy of putting together a band in the first place. They blasted through mostly upbeat numbers and singles, with notable absences of fan favorites "Fitzcarraldo" and "Red Chord." Still, it hardly mattered when nearly every song became a singalong without much prompting from Glen Hansard at all. Usually one to weave a clever story, Hansard let the music do most of the talking, which was a favor since Terminal 5 is a venue that unfortunately amplifies every audience member's whisper into a roar. Two hours, multiple encores, and a new song (featuring Joe Doyle on lead vocals rather than Hansard) later, The Frames closed with "Heyday," a cover of a song by the sadly deceased Mic Christopher. It was a beautiful final note and a fitting message for a band that has sustained so much. Now more than ever, The Frames seem to be a group made of brothers and equals who see no end in sight.

Another stunning performance from Ireland's most under-rated band. I brought a friend who had very little knowledge of the band and he thought it was one of the top three gigs he'd ever been at! I'm in love with The Frames. They are my absolute favorite band. Each time I see them live, I fall in love all over again. I especially loved when they played "What happens when the heart just stops" and mixed in some lyrics from Van Morrison's Caravan. They always keep their songs fresh by changing the arrangement and adding lyrics from other songs. I hope they continue to tour the States. Most people know Glen Hansard through the Oscar-winning film Once, and his other musical project, Swell Season. However The Frames are his heart and soul and have been playing together for more than 20 years. Tuesday's show at The Avalon had all the sensitivity and emotion of a Swell Season show, but also carried the raw power of a hard rock, or even a punk band. It's this type of dynamic that separates The Frames from the crowd. From a whisper to a scream.

Amazing band, unforgettable. I was moved to tears during 'when the heart just stops.' i'm so glad to see glen and the crew back on the road. its too bad the audience felt the need to scream and holler during any lull in the show or banter. and really people requesting "freebird?" give it up. not funny then and not funny now.

The show was outstanding. The band was in fine form, the venue size was right, the opening act was very decent (Tim Easton) and overall it turned out very well. Glen Hansard seemed very comfortable and was enjoying himself...as much as he must love the Swell Season, you can see he truly loves rock and roll. I took along a first time listener/concert-goer and she seemed to enjoy herself as well (even not knowing all of their songs.)

Familiar only with Hansard's work in "Once", I didn't know quite what to expect from this show. I thoroughly enjoyed his passion and the beautiful music, but the show did drag on a bit toward the end. But after 20 years together, I think they've earned the right to be a little self-indulgent on stage.

Loved the show - they played a lot of hits and several new songs that make me want to go out and buy their latest album. They hold their own as world class musicians - I will see them next time they are in town. This was my first time at Wonder Ballroom - which I highly recommend - small, intimate, has a great bar downstairs for pre-event drinks and good restaurants nearby. Acoustics were good but not outstanding. Drinks at the gig were cheap for a concert ($5 beers).

The Frames have to be one the most musically brilliant bands of all time! Meaningful, complex lyrics, moving dynamic changes, tenderness and powerful in equal measure. My wife and I drove 600 miles to used them, and I would do it again. Too bad there always seem to be a few jackasses in the crowd that drink too much and spoil the moment and tempo of the evening with their bantor. I prefer non-alcoholic events so the music is showcased. The wonder ballroom is a great venue, though.
