Sloan

SLOAN IN CONCERT:Power pop titans Sloan have achieved cult status in their native Canada and built a diehard following around the world thanks to their potent blend of crunchy riffs and catchy hooks. The band's four members share songwriting duties, and the result is a wildly diverse sound that encompasses jaunty piano ditties, charging pop-punk, and stirring power ballads. Each member sings their own songs in concert, treating fans to a steady stream of distinct styles – from Chris Murphy's bright tenor to Patrick Pentland's rocking growl – before wowing them with gorgeous four-part harmonies. Their all-together-now enthusiasm in concert has ticket buyers singing along on stadium-worthy anthems like "Underwhelmed," "The Other Man," and "The Rest of My Life.

I ve been going to Sloan shows for 25 years now. This show was a shorter set and they played a lot from their new album 12 so if you re hoping for a lot of classics you will be disappointed. New album is really good so I still enjoyed myself even though I m still getting to know it. Definitely a must see for any fan!

An amazing show. The music was great, the crowd was great, the band was fun. Sloan sell out stadiums in Canada so seeing them in an intimate venue in the States is a real treat. Don't miss them.

The concert was amazing! I have been a Sloan fan for over 15 years and they rarely make it to the section of the U.S. that I get to see them. I got to meet Chris and Andrew and they were very friendly. The band sounded great and even busted out their toughest song to play, "Fading Into Obscurity," because my wife requested it.

Two sets, a brief intermission, and the rest of the time Sloan rocked a stage smaller than the giant festivals that rightfully greet them in Canada and should stateside in a perfect world. With 3/4 of the discography represented in the set, it was a 22 year long dream come true. Getting, Chris, Jay and Patrick's autographs after was sheer gravy!

Excellent show by an awesome band. No opener. 2 full sets. Playing both well-known hits and lesser known songs to an enthusiastic crowd. Great night!

I have seen Sloan 3 times before this (all in Chicago) and this was by far the best show yet!! The venue was so up close and personal that it gave the whole show a very intimate feel and the band was great as well. Plenty of energy and great singing / playing. I was especially impressed with the sound quality... Which sounded great for such a small venue. I will definitely go to another show at this venue and I completely recommend seeing Sloan to anyone who is a fan of good high energy pop/rock. Thanks for a great time!!

Sloan is at the top of their game and put on a great show for an enthusiastic crowd. I brought along a few friends that never heard of Sloan before and they walked away fans of the band.

So, I'm probably getting old, but... The rhythm section was way too high in the mix -- and I was probably 10 feet in front of the soundboard, so I wasn't right in front of speakers. The guitars were very difficult to make out because the bass/drums were too high. The set list was otherwise great and I'm glad I went to the show. But I took a friend who had never seen Sloan before and he was put off by the mix and didn't enjoy it because of that.

The lads put on a great show. I brought a couple of newbies with me to see them and they were blown away. Spread the news, people! Sloan deserve a lot more recognition in the US!!!

Been waiting to see this band for several years. They put on a great show and really displayed their ability to go from pop to rock, punk, and some real Abbey Road moments. All four band members sing and write music, so there are a lot of shades to this band. Very tight musically, and a very good show. The sound at Great Scott was very loud, but mixed well. Stay towards the back and you won't have ringing ears the next day.

Great show, great band, great crowd! Twice Removed is a classic and sounded great live and in its entirety. Second set of 15 other tunes from all over their catalogue was a blast.

This show was a step back in time and as such it did not disappoint. Sloan put on a dynamic concert that showcased their musical talents. The music was the same as it was when it was first released and that is exactly what I wanted to see. This wasn't the greatest show I have seen, but in terms of 40 something musicians trying to relive their youth after 20 years, it wasn't that bad.

The band came out and jumped right into Twice Removed, which was executed well, but without tons of chemistry or passion. After the first set break, however, Sloan kicked into overdrive and played the rest of the 31-song set with amazing energy and precision. It was a great, great show!

Sloan put on a great show, playing through the fan favorite album, Twice Removed. Then they returned after a short break to knock our collective socks off with hit after hit after hit. The entire venue was singing along, clapping and having a wonderful time. The lads were relaxed and Chris was his usual goofy and exuberant self. Never mind the silver hair, they know how to more rock than all those dyed-black poseurs out there.

St. Andrews Hall was a great venue -- totally fit Sloan's style. My first time seeing them and it was great. The sound was awesome and their music is fantastic. Had a blast! Played for 2 hours and was totally worth going. Highly recommend them!

This is the second time I've seen Sloan at the Bowery (first was 3 -4 years ago, also in June) which is a great place to see them . They varied their playlist slightly from a few nights earlier in Philadelphia at the Kung Fu Necktie, a much smaller club. Sloan played the entire new record (The Double Cross-XX- for 20 years together) and hit almost every one of their albums through the years. The harmonies were excellent, and all 4 vocalists were pretty much spot on. If there was a change that I could make, I would revise Andrew's set list. He is the drummer through about 85 % of the songs, but comes up front to play guitar and sing for 4-5 songs. He has some real rockers, and I would've liked to heard a couple of them rather than the selections he did play. His set was still well received. . I would highly recommend seeing Sloan, a very tight band with some very intelligent and thought provoking lyrics. It's a shame there is no radio outlet for them other than college radio; they just don't fit into a specific format. Sloan is a wonderful pop/rock band with great musicians and solid harmonies. They have a unique versatility from four songwriters and vocalists, which gives you an almost unlimited combination for any show. Go and see them; you'll not be disappointed.

So I've never been a huge fan of Sloan. I always thought they were a bit overrated, however, they themselves put on a nice show. They were good live. The drunk guys were especially funny. But I went to see Magneta Lane who is touring with Sloan. They went on right before. I was a little disappointed when they only played maybe 4 or 5 songs and none of their older ones! Magneta Lane is amazing and truly underrated. They need more credit than they have.
