New Order

As one of the most influential new wave bands of the '80s, New Order  brought electronic dance music to the forefront of mainstream consciousness, setting the tone for generations of music to come. EDM progenitors like \"Blue Monday\" and \"Bizarre Love Triangle\" sound as fresh today as they did 30 years ago, making the band a continued presence atop festival bills around the globe. Bernard Sumner and co. sounded as sharp as ever on tour in 2013, treating fans to an emotional Joy Division tribute during their encores and setting expectations sky high for their 2014 appearances.

I've been to many concerts at this venue but this one seemed particularly loud, so much so that the songs were hardly recognizable until about a third of the way into them. New Order is my all time favorite band. It was great to be in their presence and hear their classic tunes. However I thought the sound was "off."

It has been many years since I saw New Order the last time...but it was worth the wait. They played most of their hits and encored with two Joy Division songs...awesome. Can't wait for their return to the US.

It was fantastic to see New Order again after 25+ years. they are as good as they used to be, and great light show. Only bad thing is that the fox theater doesn't have great sound quality. But then again, it was nice to see New Order.

I was really looking forward to seeing New Order. They've been one of the bands that I never saw when I was younger, and when I heard they were touring again I was really excited. On top of that, they were playing the Fox Theater, one of the most beautiful venues in the Bay Area. Sadly, the show was a complete disappointment. Both the opening act and New Order were painfully loud. Additionally, the higher register notes during New Order's set were extremely screechy and shrill. A couple of times I plugged my ears and found that the sound was improved and that I could actually make out the music and lyrics better.

Out was great to dance with the New Order faithful. The show was an hour and forty minutes long, but I wanted it to be longer to dance all night! I would have liked an encore, but the two Joy Division songs were a nice treat. Couldn't understand Bernard's banter, but other than that, great show!

Having only seen New Order once before (Coachella 2005) I was pretty excited to see them again as I became a bigger fan of their work as well as Joy Divisions. Since there are only 3 original members it might not have been the same as it was in the 80's. But they still put on an awesome show. I left pretty happy with the set list and the performance. Light show was above average. The Fox is an awesome venue. I was on the floor 25 ft from stage. The sound was pretty good but might have been better a little further back.

One of the "must see" bands on my list of bands to see before I die. New Order fulfilled all my expectations, and then some. They went thru a songlist of all their famous hits and performed them beautifully. The Joy Division tribute towards the end was so unexpected and wonderful. The cherry on the cake of a perfect evening of unforgettable music that draws new generations of fans year after year.

New Order and Goldfrapp musically were excellent, but were let down by the terrible lighting as the whoever set up the lighting only cared about about the first 1/3 of the Bowl as the those past the light board were blinded by the bright lighting that faced the audience, plus a lack of spot light on the lead singers. Lighting was designed for a smaller venue and not for something as large and sloped as the Bowl. The LA Phil and other special performances I have seen at the Bowl have not suffered from this fate.

Goldfrapp was amazing - I would love to see her again. But the real stars were New Order. They sounded incredible even without Peter Hook.Their music sounds current and relevant today, even though some of it is 30+ years old. They covered a big part of their catalog, including a few Joy Division songs. Still, there were probably another 4-6 amazing songs that they didn't play. Next time...

Saw NO at the Greek a year + ago, and this show was nothing like that one, which was a good thing. They were far looser this time, played almost an entirely new set--even the songs they repeated were remodeled--and seemed to be having a really good time as their 2 year tour came to a close. While last time everything was pristine and album-identical, this show was rawer (well, as raw as New Order can be!) and thrashier. I might have been disappointed with just this show, but given that I saw both, I left with just as big a grin this time as last.

Greek theatre is such an intimate venue, I could not have been more excited they where playing there. Although the bassist had some technical difficulties for the first couple of songs, they kept going like true professionals do! I think the venue did not work for New Order, a smaller venue would have been better, the sound was almost muted, maybe it's a noise restriction being open air? Played too many new songs, played only 1 older song before we left as the stage was so far away, the sound not great and the crowds and queues too long. This place seriously needs more toilets!

Long time New Order fan first time seeing them preform live. The acoustics were about as good as you can get. Bernard Sumner's vocals were crisp and clear and he played with plenty of energy that had the crowd on their feet throughout the whole concert. Mixing in new and old songs together the set list flowed seamlessly from one song to the next leaving me with great anticipation for the next song to be played. What can be said about drummer Stephen Morris his high energy performance was outstanding and a pleasure to see and hear. Keyboardist Gillian Gilbert's masterful play made the whole live experience a total success. New Order has been around since the 80"s.how many other bands can you make that statement about? Most of the more current bands have a shelf life of less than five years.

New Order was fantastic live at The Chicago Theatre. The crowd was a little slow to warm up but Ceremony had everyone on their feet during the second song. Love Vigilantes kept the classics playing through until hearing Temptation before the encore. Venue was conveniently located near downtown. Didn't buy anything, but the prices for snacks/drinks and merch seemed about in line with other shows I've been to. It was a bit difficult to make out what Bernard was singing at some times, but that's more of a New Order/Joy Division "feature" than a problem with the show. It was fantastic to hear the classics again and they played two new songs that prove the upcoming album is definitely something to get excited about. Audience participation could've been a bit better, but I had a blast singing along and dancing to the music, and all the fans were very friendly.

Great show and worth the wait of years and years to finally see them. Sadly they don't tour the States much anymore but rather seem to be playing a few select dates on one coast or the other. 31 years after getting the Blue Monday EP and Power, Corruption & Lies LP with my first NY messenger paycheck, I finally see them live 3000 miles from there. I saw New Order in 1989. I am pleased to say that they are back. This time, they played the fabulous Santa Barbara Bowl... one of the most impressive venues in this country. NO played a number of tribute hymns to Joy Division, which were welcome. My only caveat is the lack of new material, which concerns me a bit. Overall, though, I had a great time. In some ways, NO has improved with age. A lot of news has been made about the loss of Peter Hook. However, his absence in no way affected the performance. In my opinion it's time to move forward and see what's out there... BTW, Johnny Marr was great too. The Smith tunes brought back a lot of fond memories. Johnny has aged gracefully.

The show was great. Johnny Mars was good playing some Smiths songs and ending with "Getting Away With It" from his Electronic days and then closing with "How Soon Is Now". New Order was Fantastic. I was about 30 feet from the stage so I was close enough to see them and enjoy the show even more. The stage was small but gave it a more private feeling to me. I saw them in October 2012 and I enjoyed this show more. I was disappointed that at this show, as well as the 2012 show, they didn't play anything from Technique. Different from the 2012 show this time they played "Regret" and "World" from the Republic album. Even though they didn't play anything from Technique the show was great. If you have a chance to catch them in Santa Barbara with Johnny Mars I would highly recommend it. I hope they continue touring in the future so I can see them again and again and again.

I have been a HUGE Joy Division/New Order fan since 1979 but had never had the chance to see them live before. WOW!! What a show. My wife and I got in line about 4PM and were the first few to get in when the doors opened at 8PM, we ran to front row center. The DJ was first, not bad, then Johnny Marr got on stage about 9PM, and ALSO sounded awesome. Played 3 Smith's songs. New Order got on stage about 10:30PM and put on a masterful show!! Opened with elegia, crystal, and regret. Added a JD song and some other NO favorites. Bernard had a great time with the crowd, lots of chatter and joking. Steve's drums were booming and Gillian's keys were magical. The background screen play JD/NO bits that were very cool. They left, then came back for a 3 song Joy Division encore...Atmosphere, transmission, and Love will tear us apart! After the show, my wife got a stage guy to give her Bernard's set list, footprint included!!

Great show: check. Played the songs that put them on the map: check. Played Joy Division songs (Atmosphere, She's Lost Control and a reworking of Isolation): check. The venue and drinks were great: check. And they played a long set. We like to put up to heroes in America and it was sweet seeing 3 of the 4 original members of New Order on stage. Peter Hook wasn't there and not because of the rift in the band (or in spite of). The rift is manufactured, as all the other theatricals we're accostumed to by now from New Order and everything Factory Records. Bernard Sumner was in top shape, happy to be on stage, doing what he does and doing it extremely well. Considering the subject matter of most the songs, you could still call the stage occupants collectively happy to be there. This was a top performance. I surely would have regretted missing them. Finally, being excited to see New Order again after seeing them back in 2005 at Coachella, they have certainly outdone themselves. Spot on.

This is my 3rd time I've seen New Order as they never seem to disappoint. They played a great majority of their songs, including hits like Bizarre Love Triangle, Restless & True Faith just to name a few and I especially loved the new Live intro of Bizarre Love Triangle played that evening. Polica opened up the show with most of the crowd pretty much keeping to themselves without really giving the band a chance (which most opening bands struggle through) but they are a fairly-new and very talented band as I own their first two albums. They too are a fun band to see Live and worth the money. Finally, the female Dj who played in between sets also did a great job playing mostly soothing Deep House music, while mixing in some older tracks with a fresh new Remix, keeping the crowd entertained until the bands came on to play. Only downside is alcohol restrictions of the 2 drink minimum, where they would count a larger cup of beer or wine as "2 drinks" which was pretty stupid policy but then again, I never really liked the Greek Theater venue. Still, this show was worth every penny as I would see these bands play live again!

Overall, great concert...Our group that attended was not a fan of having the concert over at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. We prefer assigned seating, and not general admission. The seats are cement, and if you don't get one in time since it is first come first admission you end up sitting on the back hill lawn which is really uncomfortable. You need to bring a blanket and you keep on slipping down the hill and hitting other people. New Order next time choose the Fox Theater in Oakland which is a lot more organized. Plus, you ran out of bigger size shirts for us fans to buy. New Order performed really well, and all the songs were great. It is nice to have this classic 80's band back out performing. We were disappointed you didn't play Round and Round...Make sure to put that back in the lineup. Overall, great concert and come back to the Bay Area in 2 to 3 years.

They plated all their playlist including some of the newer songs, which were actually quite good. My wife danced like she was 25 again and the outdoor venue at the Greek was awesome on a clear night with stars as bright as the stage lights. One of those bands I always wanted to see but never got to. They DID NOT disappoint.

I love New Order but this show was not their best. I was bored and it seemed like they were bored too. I saw them in 2014 and they were on fire. This time the flame wasn't there. Also, the sound system at the Berkeley Greek Theatre was awful. I will NOT be going to see New Order again. I WILL be going to see Peter Hook this upcoming Friday. They need to work things out and bring him back on board.

New order still has it! They played a bunch of newer songs I wasn't too familiar with but there wasn't a point during the show that I looked at my watch, the new songs are just as good as the older ones like Bizarre Love Triangle and Blue Monday. They closed the show with two Joy Division songs, which choked me up. Definitely go see New Order if given the chance!

Although they have hits that got them to where they are today, they only interspersed those songs lightly through their set list. Playing less Known songs for 2/3 of the concert was disappointing. Plus, their Opening act was like one long song.

Great to eventually see these guys. I bought Blue Monday 12" back in the early 80's and been a big fan ever since. Liked the reworkings of some older songs, which is a good way to keep the interest very high.

There was no opening act and they went on at 9p (tix said 8p). They sounded great and I really enjoyed the show. The played more of the newer material (post 2000). I recommend the show.

I have seen New Order before: they were great. I can't fault the band at Radio City but the special effects people dropped the ball. The stage had bright lights pointing at one's eyes, thus essentially blinding the concertgoer. Because of the lighting, one could not see the band members clearly, they were in relative darkness. I left before the 4th song was over. So disappointing and expensive.

Perfect show in a perfect venue. Previously saw at the rose land ballroom and thought they would be out of place in a seated venue but loved to be proven wrong. Tribute to Ian Curtis in encore was classy

New Order surpassed all expectations. Bernard Sumner's voice was on point and to be honest I enjoyed the new music much more than their classics which surprised me.
