Warren Haynes

Warren Haynes

Warren Haynes' long-anticipated solo album, Man In Motion (Concord Records), is a timeless collection of songsthat crackle with modern vitality yet draw on his deepest roots as an artist.            The disc pumps fresh blood into the heart of soul and blues, stoked by Haynes's Herculean prowess as both a powerhouse singer and guitarist— a reputation he's earned as a member of three of the greatest live groups inrock history: The Allman Brothers Band, The Dead and his own Gov't Mule.            In a sense, the vocal-driven Man In Motion is an album he's been aching to make since he firstdreamed of becoming a musician.             "Before I started playing guitar, I wanted to be a singer, right from the age of five or six," the rock ‘n' roll legend regales.

Summer night at the outside amphitheater of Chastain Park in ATL was an ideal setting for this event. The setlist was choice. It really showcased both Warren and Jerry's talents. The symphony added another layer of depth and texture to the old standbys. Vocals and guitar are two of Warren's big talents, and he utilizes them on this occasion and the result was beautiful.

Wasn't sure how I was going to like this tour with his band Ashes And Dust they are a little more Bluegrass and Folk with the Banjo, Fiddle and Mandalin Each member of the band all had their own little spotlight moments and they we're all spectacular and Warrens guitar playing and vocals were incredible plus being in the front row was a dream come true would definitely love to see this show again

A great seamless evening with Warren Haynes & Co. There was not a lot of dialog, and that was great with me, just great music from start to finish with a surprisingly (to me) excellent band.

Ive been a fan for a long time & the thought of WH starting a band with 2 or 3 other voices + great musicians was a dream come true. Ruthie Foster & Ivan Neville compliment Warrens voice ,vise versa, like maple syrup on blueberry pancakes. Hot , buttery sweet & sticky! At one point they got a bit muley but that is to be expected Id expect some great things & phenomenal covers from them in the future.

Warrens sound was way off. There was a constant distortion to the sound. The volume was excessive which made matters all the worse. To bad because the Orpheum is usually a nice venue.

Saw Warren and the new lineup on Fri 13th. There was nothing unlucky about it. High energy and highly skilled musicians jamming hard. They played two sets. First one electric with mostly tunes from Warrens new cd. The opening tune was the title track Man in Motion. Second set started with Warren solo acoustic. Just amazing. Then did an hour of electric ending with Soulshine.

Great show. Different side of Warren for sure. A lot of Soul, R&B, Blues and classic covers. The "Soulshine" was probably the best I have seen with a little "Tupelo Honey" wrapped in the middle. A fun night for all. Warren Haynes never disappoints.

I'm a huge Warren Haynes fan and have seen him many times with Gov't Mule and the Allman Brothers. This show might have been the best I've seen. Warren's new album and this band really bring out the soul and passion that is in all of his music. Warren's vocals were amazing as were the backing vocals of Ruthie Foster and the band. Warren's guitar playing was spectacular as it always is. I loved the acoustic songs he did to start the second set. When he played "I'll be the One", he broke into a great "Blue Sky" solo during the middle. As soon as I heard the first keyboard notes to "Soulshine" as the Warren and the band closed the second set, it made the night perfect. Don't miss seeing Warren if you get the chance. With this band and his new material, he'll appeal to a broader audience as well.

This show is amazing. A must see. Warren tries to showcase his band, who are all accomplished in their own right yet still steals the show. This is one of the premier shows around. 3 1/2 hours of non stop talent, from acoustic to his new material. Cant say enough about the talent Ruth Foster is great as is everyone else who plays with Warren. By far the most under rated musicians around. Warren thanks for the music, this man is all about live performances. He keeps the ticket prices low so anyone can attend. Thanks again Warren see you soon

Musicianship was not stellar, just OK. Some high moments, but mostly average. Haynes was not at the top of his game. Seemed to be going through the motions a lot. Not anywhere close to the level of performance for Govt Mule; and I'm not talking about the style of songs.

Like everything he does, this concert by Warren's new band in support of his new album "Man in Motion" was a night of unforgettable Magic with a mix of songs from the album, a small acoustic mini set, a number of covers and some songs from Haynes other work, both his 1993 solo album "Tales of Ordinary Madness" and some from his work with Gov't Mule. The excellent band including the marvelous Ruthie Foster on backing vocals and the incredible Ron Holloway on sax supported Haynes righteous guitar jamming.

My wife and I had a great night again at the Beacon, totally sold on Warren Haynes and his brilliant new album, To describe the Band Its like they were meant to play together, Warren played for nearly 3 hours and his passion was energetic throughout the theater, everyone was having a blast. The theater accommodated again a crowd of people that love to smoke, drink and have good times. Lot of dead heads, Mules and young and old who appreciate good soul style blues. wouldn't think twice at making this show at the beacon a habit.. Hands down, the most soulful, heartfelt, humble, true bluesy rock you will ever experience. Had the blessing of meeting Warren a few times after unforgettable shows, and his kindness & humility (being only the lead guitarist for the Allmans, Gov't Mule and the Dead after Jerry passed) was just quietly mind blowing. Show was good. Warren great on the guitar, but it lacks the enthusiasm of Warren wailing away like he would do in a rock band. Song selection was OK but some Jerry classics like Deal and Sugaree were not included. Best part of the show was the last song before the encore which was Terrapin Station which blended perfectly the ASO with Warren's guitar and voice. Glad I went, but won't do it again.

We were so disappointed in this ASO Warren Haynes concert. Play less than a handful of everyone's favorite Grateful Dead songs and the rest and self-indulgent of the symphony. People around me were talking throughout the whole thing because everyone was fairly bored with the music selection being offered. So very disappointed! We have been so looking forward to this and it was a huge letdown

Show looked a lot better on paper than in person. Warren Haynes - great, ASO - superb, Garcia - legendary. Put it all together at the pit of Chastain and you get a total waste of a night. Chastain is old and worn out, terrible acoustics, and the entitled millenials in the crowd wouldn't shut up long enough to listen.

I got there several hours early and parked across the street right in front the black tour bus, I was sitting and Warren gets off the bus and I walked over and asked if he had a second for a quick picture he so graciously did take a pic with me I thanked him he went in and proceeded to play one of the best sets of music EVER!!! That's my opinion. But the theater is unbelievable as well great acoustics shows sounded great, then to top it off at the end Warren came off the bus after the show and took pics and signed things for 1/2 hour at least and he is such a great person and he proves it each and every night. Warren is the hardest working man in rock n roll and he is my favorite musician and hero of ALL TIME!!! Love ya Warren Keep Rocking in the Free World your friend kevin

The beautiful 2015 release has some great songs that aren't in the live set (Blue Maiden''s Tale, Beat Down The Dust), but what's there is a soulful collection that loses nothing with a new band replacing what Railroad Earth recorded with Warren. It's even better to get close enough to see where the sound is coming from, with Matt Menefee's many voices on the "banjo" synthesizer along with the other strings. good sounding historic venue without too much adornment, floor columns slightly distracting but got a cheaper seat last minute...Warren Haynes poured out stories of a lifetime for this band; don't miss it anywhere!

Excellent technical playing by Mr. Haynes and a couple nice feel good Allman Bros tunes thrown in had the crowd on its feet. But, for me, since it was the Ashes and Dust Band on the Ashes and Dust Tour after releasing the Ashes and Dust CD, that's what I came to hear; a CD as close as anything I have ever heard that perfectly blends the power and emotion of electric blues/rock with the sublimity of down home acoustic bluegrass/country. I only recall two songs from the CD (You and Me and Coal Tattoo) and they made a fair attempt at recreating them, but for the vast majority of the show, it might as well have been electric guitar plus bass plus drums; the banjo, mandolin, acoustic guitar, and fiddle could barely be heard. When they were heard it was during a lead break set aside for them, but even then, the players seemed to be straining to get everything they could to break through the wall of sound behind them. The subtle counterpoints of those instruments so exquisite on the A and D CD were missing in action, and the emotive passages of sweet fiddle and ensemble playing just didn't make it past the sound board. Wish I could have heard what their body language told me they were trying to say.

Warren Haynes and his band was fantastic. I loved hearing a lot of familiar songs done with a bluegrass feel. The bad part was Jannus Live. It has to be the worst place to see a live show in the Tampa area. No where to sit and chill. Very few good places to stand. If you do get a good spot near the stage, its hard to take a piss, its hard to get a beer. The crowd is mostly uninterested in the music and talk over it. People barging through the crowd to make their way up front. I would have rather seen this show at any other venue. Jannus really makes a great show a bad experience. No more shows at Jannus for me. It was so much fun experiencing Warren and his talented new band, in such an intimate setting. He played an enjoyable variety of his repertoire as well as some new music and mixed in a few well-loved cover songs. He was meant to play Stevie Nick's "Gold Dust Woman" and the softer side of Jimi Hendrix. But when he would slide in an Allman Brothers song, the crowd really loved it. Overall, having seen him with the Allman Bros Band all those years ago and more recently with Government Mule, I am impressed how enthusiastic he remains and will definitely make the effort to see him again!

I go to a lot of concerts and shows - and this ranks absolutely at the top for musical performance, precision, energy. Unbelievable skills. The band - electric banjo, mandolin, violin, bass, percussion all performed at a level I had never seen. I was blown away. The Empire in San Antonio is a small venue and we had excellent seats so we were only feet away which made it even better. By the end of the show folks were dancing wherever they could find space. Very nice venue, great staff, bartenders and crew. When Warren is in, the whole place seems to adopt his customer is king attitude. Wish I could see several of his shows in a row to see the different interplay that develops each night between him and the band.

Warren and his awesome band really tore it up in Durham on 10/13/11! The fans were treated to two sets of wonderful music, hearing selections from Warren's "Man In Motion" and lots of unexpected treasures that made the concert quite special and fun!

Great show! Always expect the unexpected, but Baby Love by Mother's Finest was a house rocker. What is the backup singers name? Loved Sailin' Shoes and the encore of Spanish Moon with Ron Holloway! Loved Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley with Nevill. The new songs off Man in Motion where powerful, especially Save Me! Ogden Theatre Denver, CO 05/25/2011

What a show! What a true artist. Miss it and you'll be kicking yourself in the nuts for the next 30 years. Warren acknowledged the fans outside after the show, signed autographs, and took lots of pictures. I even got a pick. Love you man!

a spinof of the Allmans & Government Mule bands, Warren presented a spectacular event, complete with a hard-driven backing & the voices of Ruthie Foster & guest William Bell, with many of the songs from his newest release, Man in Motion.

Warren assembled a great group of musicians and played one of my favorite live albums of all time. I like that they are truly an ensemble, the spotlight was shared among all the musicians. The New Orleans crowd stood and danced for most of the show. I had a little moment for Lowell, he left us too soon. On the downside, the concert started one hour late and was a bit too loud.

I really liked the venue. Saenger theater is historic and has been recently renovated. Beautiful ! Amazing acoustics, and the band was on point. Warren and Medeski were great!

This concert hearkened back to the days when all the best bands were touring regularly. Little Feat, the Dead, the Band, etc., etc. The concert promised a recreation of the Waiting for Columbus experience and it delivered. All of the musicians were amazing. It's not often that the audience thanks the source of the concert, but that happened with the shout out to Warren Haines for making this event happen. The crowd was literally dancing in the aisles. Apologies to the ushers on duty that night. Only drawbacks - I was somehow expecting more special guests. Maybe that was just me. Also it started nearly an hour late, but then again, that hearkens back to the old days, too.

Just watched Warren Haynes live at the Moody and was blown away by the great band he had backing him , then I go to concert and hear an entire concert of what I can only describe and some strange mix of country/ bluegrass sprinkled with some blues. Really, a mandolin, a violin, stand up bass and banjo with the great rock and blues guitarist Warren Haynes? And his playing was laid back with a lot of pansy country leads. Please bring back the old Warren or his going to lose lot of fans.

Warren Haynes has assembled a masterful band of musicians for this solo tour. The evening started off with an Allman Bros song and ended with a Grateful Dead song. How could it be any better? Well, throw in songs from his previous solo album, a Gov't Mule song and 3 hours later, I'm exhausted from cheering, clapping and foot stomping. it was as if this band had played together for years, even though they hadn't. Jeff Sipe is one of the best drummers I have ever heard. Don't miss this show when it comes to town.

Thank you Warren for gracing us with a show of your amazing talent and love for music a second time in the same year! I'd see you again this year, or any time I'm near one of your shows. The back-up players were a pleasant treat and really displayed musical prowess. What are rare and enjoyable experience the whole concert turned out to be overall. Favorite Moment: The last song of the night - Jessica! Super way to say goodnight with a long awaited song. To see one of the original members of The Allman Brothers play this was a true blessing.

I have probably seen Warren 6-7 times with Gov't Mule and another 4-5 with the Allmans. He is always stellar with whoever he plays with. It was nice to hear him with a backing Banjo, Mandolin, Fiddle, plus his normal Bass and Drums. It gave a new tone to some of the oldies he played which were the highlight to me. Not a big fan of Soulshine, but was SO happy to hear Blue Skies and especially Jessica. Played almost 2.5 hours with only a call back for encore break. I was front row center in balcony and the sound was superb except for clarity of lyrics. That could have been better.

Warren Haynes is one of the top guitarists in my book, because he can play a variety of covers, genres, and his improvisational skills are top notch. He also played with a back up band...and he made sure that every member got a chance to solo. He never stepped on anyone's feet, and he never stole the spotlight. That is what I like to see from a musician. Truly inspriational

It was great to see a different side of Warren Haynes. Railroad earth did a great job accompanying him. The fiddle player Tim Carbone for Railroad Earth was unbelievable. He soloed all night from 730pm till 11pm. I saw Warren 52 times before this and I really enjoyed the change of pace and courage to do something different.
