This year's 20th Anniversary Christmas concert was one of the best! Gary Hoey plays from the heart and it reflects in the greatness of the music he plays. Surrounded by his family friends and fans, in the beautiful Blue Ocean Music Hall, we enjoyed Live Christmas tunes in the Gary Hoey " Guitar sings it best" tradition. AJ on bass and Matt on the drums, this band knows how to jam! It's always a pleasure to see Ian Hoey on stage too. It will be an amazing day in music history when these two start collaborating on their own original songs ! Ian is gifted and with a dad like Gary, I expect great things! 2 sets with an intermission and immediately following the show, Gary meets and greats for photos and autographs while AJ & Matt mingle with the fans.

This is the second time I've seen Gary Hoey live. Both times felt more like a jam session than a scripted performance. He really engages the audience and makes the show a lot of fun. He really knows how to rock. He played a couple of songs off his upcoming album. The title track, Utopia, really rocked. They also played a lot of great covers.

Gary Hoey is such an awesome rock guitarist. The concert was so much better then expected. You can really listen to his albums over and over and over again, but to see him live is to really appreciate how great he really is.

Gary Hoey and his band tore up The Hangar at the OC Fair last night!!! He played some of the new stuff from his upcoming CD and made sure to include everything we had hoped to hear: Pipeline, Miserlou, Low Rider, Linus & Lucy, The Grinch and 12 Day of Christmas, even though it was August!! He had the entire audience, from 8 to 80, on their feet dancing and cheering by the end!!

Great show - awsome guitar player. Bass and Drums kept right up with him - the three of them really looked like they were hing a blast performing. And look out for his 8 year old guitar playing son...wow.

The show was the best. 2nd time I've seen him and have not been disappointed yet. This show had everything and plenty of his xmas music. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is because I thought the overall sound had a little too much echo in it. Anybody who wants to see one of the best guitar players out there and one of the nicest people around, go see Gary Hoey, you won't regret it!

I've been listening to Gary for about 10 yrs. now and finally getting to see him live was a treat. His playing was mostly what I wanted to see but his vocals were a pleasant suprise. Everything about the show was top notch. I thought the sound was very full for a trio. And they didn't just stand there and play, they put on a great show also. I would recommend Gary Hoey to any guitar player or anyone who loves old school rock -n- roll. Looking forward to the new CD coming out at the first of the year!

I was really excited about seeing Gary Hoey as I've never been to a show of his and I'm a big fan of Ho Ho Hoey. However, I was let done by this concert. First, the voodoo lounge in St. Louis is not a good place to see a big band. It has a strange setup where the band plays on top of the bar. The band becomes more of an afterthought to the bar. Secondly, the crowd was rather sparse and old. I figured that this would have been a bigger event. Finally, I would have preferred to hear more Christmas songs as this was advertised as a Ho Ho Hoey show. Instead, he only played about 5 Christmas tunes. Many of the songs he played where new songs off his upcoming cd. Also, several songs included vocals which is not his strong suite. The lyrics in these songs were rather cheesy. I believe Gary should stick with his Christmas Rock stuff as he could create a great following with this material. Overall, it wasn't a bad show but I was let down by the venue and the lack of the Christmas songs.

I didnt know there would be other songs played and I thought there were to many other song being played. I wanted more Christmas music. When they got to the end they played more but it was a collaboration of songs so I didnt get to hear them in their entirety

Happy to finally see a Ho! Ho! Hoey show. Have seen Gary before but first time seeing his holiday show. No matter what Gary plays, he rocks it. He interacts with the audience and brings a lot of energy to his performance. This was his 20th anniversary holiday show and even after performing for more that 2 decades, he definitely still has the passion for music and performing whether its his classics like Hocus Pocus, Christmas songs, blues or new material. Loved seeing him bring out his son for a couple songs (how lucky to be learning guitar from Gary!), who played great. First time at Blue Ocean Music Hall and what a nice venue it is. Not a bad seat in the house.

As usual Gary does not disappoint. The show is lively and goes by so fast, not because he plays for a short time, but because you are having so much fun the time flies by. Only downside is that he come to this venue once a year. I would love to see him during the summer months at the Blue Ocean Music Hall. I have been going to see this show for the last several years and plan to go again in the future. I highly recommend it!

This show is a MUST for those who enjoy rock driven Christmas/Holiday music! Gary Hoey is great on stage and engages with the audience. It feels like you're surrounded by old friends in this venue and the acoustics are amazing. This is my 3rd time seeing this particular show and about the 15th time I've been to BOMC and neither ever disappoints. Only negative is people really should just sit down and enjoy the show and worry less about drinking! Remember, when you stand up at a nightclub type venue you are blocking the view of everyone behind you! Order your drinks early, sit down and watch the show - this isn't the Boston Garden folks!

Gary Hoey is truly one of the most talented and underrated guitarist in the world! "Ho Ho Hoey Rockin' Holiday Show" puts the holiday spirit in the season! The band consists of the phenomenal Gary Hoey on guitar and vocals, (his fingers move at lightning speed on the fretboard!) along with virtuoso Matt Scurfield on Drums and AJ Pappas, Bassist Extraordinare. Gary's young son Ian, (an amazing guitarist already!) joined for a few songs and got the crowd on their feet. The show was a mix of traditional holiday carols/songs played in the Hoey Rocking style. Also featured was Gary's own "Still Got The Blues For Christmas" and a number of songs from his recent "Deja Blues" CD. Blue Ocean Music Hall is a beautiful venue where you can watch snow fall on the ocean while Gary and the gang put you in a festive mood. This is a wonderful show for the entire family. This, like all Gary's shows, is amazing but even more special because we have come to look forward to getting our Christmas spirit at "Ho Ho Hoey!"

Went to this show with my wife, who is not a huge music buff. I enjoyed it very much, and even she would like to see it again next year. Great mix of Holiday tunes and 'regular' stuff. He mixes it all up, not just Holiday, then others, which makes it more enjoyable. His talent is incredible. Also really liked the drummer, Matt, and his young bass player, AJ. Both were strong players. A lot of fun. I recommend for a fun night out!

Finally got to see Gary live after years of hearing him perform inside the WRIF studios. Let me just say I was definitely pleased with the the performance. There was a nice balance of Gary's unique brand of Christmas rock and other original songs that totally kicked ass! You don't have to know any of his music to enjoy every second of it and appreciate him for the talented guitarist that he is. Between songs he entertained the audience with his brief story telling and humor. The rest of the band also held up their end with some demonstrative solo endeavors. I took my 22 year old nephew who is a young budding guitarist and glanced over on occasion only to find him completely engrossed in the experience. Everyone in our group had an outstanding time. My only advice: Take it easy on the drinks, because there really isn't a good " bathroom break" song.

I have seen Gary 4 or 5 times and he never disappoints. His musicianship and enthusiasm are abundant and he is one of the nicer guys in the business. He'll sign anything you want after the show, he signed a guitar for me in Lansing MI. The songs are fun, the crowd is mature and polite, you can take your kids.. And Gary knows how to rock! This show rocked . Gary Hoey is one of the most talented and versatile guitar players out there. Right from the start, the famous detriot legend jim mccarty and the mystery train got things going with there rocking blues. Then Gary Hoey came out and brought the sold out crowd to standing ovations more than once. Playing his classic Christmas hits with some songs from his latest blues album "deja blues" mixed in.. the show was stellar. Furthermore. Just to prove he's not only a guitar genius but also a super nice guy he does a meet an greet after the show signing autographs as often as fans want and taking as many photos as requested.

Wow, what can I say, this show was probably the 12th time or so that I have seen Gary perform. He is an amazing guitarist, he has a great band, you almost wonder how 3 guys can make such great sound but they do it every single time. Gary is the most down to earth, friendly, humble and grateful musician I have ever met. He is not on an ego trip, he lets his mastery of the guitar speak for him. The venues Gary and the band play are usually quite intimate. Recently they have allowed a number of fans in for the sound check and a "meet and greet" before the actual show, this costs a bit extra on the ticket but it is well worth the money and the time, you get to actually sit and talk to Gary and the band, they sign CD's which are included in the cost of the ticket and will personalize them for you. The show itself is beyond amazing. Gary has so much talent, he is so comfortable on stage playing. It is apparent in all of his work. He is flawless, the band is just plain excellent, there is nothing bad to say about any of his shows other than, they end! Treat yourself and your family to a great time, there is no foul language, no drinking on stage either before or during the show, Gary and the band are just an amazing group with a lot of talent that more people need to see.

Gary is a fabulous guitar player. You can tell that most of the work that he does is within the studio. He has the ability to dub himself over-- so it sounds like there's many guitars playing in the song. When he comes to play live-- that means that he may do a very different version of the song. The First Noel-- from when I heard it the first time at Lou's records 10 years ago-- to last Thursday's performance was worlds apart. Both good. But worlds apart. And that affects people-- who want the song to be identical to the CD. He also is not the per se Gary Hoey band. I'm sure he has friends that are very qualified to play his music (and he outsources the role). That means that the bass player might be different each time he comes. And that was the case for this show. The drummer might have been the same-- I don't notice the drummers as much. He has a new album out-- and he played a few songs from it. I think that's probably why he didn't play Lunatic Fringe. I've seen him play that song many times-- but I'm sure a few people were disappointed they didn't get a chance to hear it. I like the new songs-- but I much prefer him taking incredible songs like Lunatic Fringe and then doing his guitar work on it. Of course, he played Utopia-- that's an awesome song-- and he does a great job on it. I don't want to forget that he always plays his Endless Summer music as well. He is almost always good to play Peace Pipe. I think about four years ago, I saw him at the belly up. He played a number of those songs. That was probably his best year he ever performed-- and it had to do with how well he played those songs. It makes sense that these plays surfer music in a place like belly up-- but the belly up is the coolest place ever. I know he's a Detroit dude-- but he does surfer music good. Just like he does the Charlie Brown songs good. As far as the Christmas songs go-- he always starts with the 12 days of Christmas. This year he was in a suit with a red dress shirt (before he went to a tee shirt). It left after a few songs. He played all the songs you were really hoping him to play. With the first song (12 Days), to the Grinch, to Greensleeves, and many other regular songs he plays. He'll switch up a few songs from year-to-year. Like rocking around the Christmas tree and a few other songs. They're great songs but he just which is them around. And he will typically play those songs on the radio the morning of. I'm almost positive he played the three songs I heard on 105.3. All in all a good time. Thank Gair

Gary Hoey has put on a great show every time I have seen him. He, and his band are extremely talented and will not dissapoint. We saw him at the City Theater in Detroit the last 2 years in a row and this is the best venue that I have ever seen a concert at. Gary, Brad and Matt came out after the show and signed autographs and took pictures with anyone who wanted to meet them. This show was on Pearl Harbor Day and Gary went off the playlist to perform the Star Spangled Banner in honor of the troops and everyone in the theater was standing with hands on hearts. This band was incredible!!!! They deserve widespread national recognition and marketing, in my opinion. Don't know what's stopping the big producers from giving this group their due. Gary Hoey, Brad Russell (Bass) and Matt Scurfield (Drums) were simply KILLIN' IT. The bass solo/duel with Gary left everyone's jaws on the floor!!! Great performances all around. I really hope this lineup stays together for a long, long time. If you haven't seen it yet ------ don't hesitate if you get the chance. Just go see 'em!!!

Gary is an extreme talent, a great showman, and just an all around nice guy. He put on a rocking show and then was very gracious with his time afterward signing autographs, taking pictures, and just socializing with the fans. We could not have possibly had more fun.
