This venue was small, (maybe 200 seats), which means there's not a bad seat in the house. We were very close, so that makes for a more enjoyable experience. Paula had some amazing energy and repoire with the crowd. But the best part of the evening was after the show, being able to 'mingle' with the artists. In my opinion, a 'great' time was had by all!

not only did she put on an amazing show.... singing her heart out and sharing lovely bits of her soul with the audience in this very intimate, endearing venue but she spent a really long time with her fans, including myself, afterwards... taking multiple pictures and signing pretty much whatever was presented to her... i saw tears flood through the audience a good few times including my little breakdown during one of her many greats... "Carmen".... her fans seemed to me as a very quirky bunch who all obviously loved her because the musical breaks for applause were extremly long and it was obvious that everyone there had either been loving her for a while or just discovering her vocal beauty and strength and really loving her in the moment... but the fact is that the audience was thrilled to be there which i feel fueled her to give an extremely gripping and powerful performance!!! keep rocking it Paula!!!

Paula Cole has not lost a bit of her talent while she was away from the music scene. Her voice was powerful and the set list had a great variety of old and new, with all the must-see favorites. She was very emotional and touched to see everyone come out to see her and received several standing ovations.

Besides her amazing vocals (what a range) and inspired lyrics (I make the monsters) she has the ability to both touch and move her audience as she emotes from the most honest, heart felt place. She is the real deal. I not only loved the way she connected with her audience but with the other members of the band as well. WOW!

We enjoyed the evening with Paula Cole at Cain Park. Her voice is amazing and her whole being sings and shares the performance. Thanks for bringing her to our FAVorite Cleveland area venue, Cain Park! Felt like we were on the cusp of getting a sneak peek of a top performer on her comeback tour. AMAZING, stunning and will be picking up "Ithaca" without a doubt.

The only reason I didn't give the show 5 stars is that despite only 4 releases, Paula missed so many wonderful songs in her 15 song set (including encores). Back to her original 2 piece backing band (guitar and drums-Tony and Ben were great), Paula looked overwhelmed and surprised by the warm welcome maybe 100-125 hungry fans gave her. She played 2 new songs which bode well for her September 21, 2010 release titled Ithica. Coming Down, Me, Where Have All The Cowboys Gone, Watch The Woman's Hands, Amen, I Believe In Love, Carmen, Feelin Love, Mississippi, Happy Home, and of course I Don't Want To Wait were all played. She also surprised with Dolly Parton's Jolene as her final encore. No Bethlehem, 14, or I Am So Ordinay. No Oh John or Tiger. No Black Boots, or Suwannee Jo. No Saturn Girl or Hitler's Brothers. No claranet or pie pan either! Also, unlike previous shows I have seen, all her tamborines made it through the night. She use to bang the daylights out of them! We did get a shock with Dear Gertrude from Harbinger though. Paula stuck around and chatted with fans while signing autographs on virtually anything put in front of her. She seemed in great spirits and truely appreciative to have the faithful show up from all over including Western Michigan and Ohio! For those who have never seen Paula you owe it to yourself to catch her. She writes like no other, very intimate, honest, and raw. In fact, she adds so much to others work too. Check out her cowrite with Katherine McPhee (yes of American Idol) "Unbroken" from her release,....well Unbroken! Paula is back and the Magic Bag was a rare intimate show.

We had so much fun going on a road trip from Columbus to Detroit to see Paula. She is so awesome, and puts so much feeling and positive energy in her shows. I was so floored by the intimate theater of the Magic Bag, and being to sit so close to the band. We were so comfortable at our table and really had a memorable evening. Thanks Paula- you rock!

In hockey, a player who makes a dramatic comeback wins the Bill Masterson Memorial Trophy. Paula Cole took significant time off I think due to the birth of her child. She dropped off the musical map and is now making a comeback and should win the music equivalent of the Masterson Trophy - if there was such a thing. She made good headway last night in Ferndale. She sang and played with emotion and showed no signs of rust from her haitus. She started off perhaps a little too emotional, but she really hit her pace when she sat down at her piano for the first time. I must say, the way she plays that thing is extremely erotic. Sometimes her playing reminded me of Joe Jackson from Night and Day. Really a wonderful show. The only reason I didn't give it five stars had nothing to do with Paula, but with the table of 8 late 30s or early 40s women who mistook Paula's welcoming of some early comments from the audience as license to shout non sequitors during the performance in an effort to divert attention from the artist to themselves. (The more they drank, the louder they got - go figure.) Ladies, it's really not about you - honestly.

I saw Paula two years ago at the Fillmore opening for Mandy Moore and Paula had the enthusiasm but seemed a little rusty after a 7 year layoff but at Montalvo Paula was at her best! Her voice was spectacular and her band was superb. Can't wait for her next appearance in the Bay Area!

though i was not feeling good, this show was fantastic due to the fact that it was very intimate. with only 3 musicians counting Paula they made a wonderful sound. she put all her energy into every song. she was very emotional and was very humble to have all us there. the best part was meeting her and getting her autograph and picture taken with her.

The Carriage House is a small, intimate setting and it felt like we were all just a group of friends gathered in someone's living room. Paula connected with the audience immediately and we could feel her emotion in every song, every story. Her voice is like a perfectly tuned instrument over which she has complete control. This was one of the most memorable and enjoyable concerts I've ever experienced.

Paula Cole returned to the unique 'power trio' format of her late 90s peak-of-popularity era to deliver a fantastic performance at this intimate concert. For Paula, 'power trio' means a super versatile guitarist and drummer percussionist (no bassist) who backed singingi or singing/playing piano. While this was a powerful performance on many levels, it was not loud - as the term power trio might lead one to think. It's just her music stripped to it's musical essence so there's nothing to distract from the musciality of the tunes, the strong lyrics or Paula's exceptional singing. She performed a set heavy on songs from her first 3 albums- including plenty of tunes from her most popular release "This Fire." Paula Cole is a singular talent, also at least a triple threat.: Great singer, songwriter and player/entertainer - and she produces her recordings. Aftter a several year hitatus to take care of some life problems (which she mentioned during the show) she is back doing the music she was born to do. Words fail me in trying to describe this exceptional and exceptionally personal performnance before an audiience full of Paula Cole fans. She's a world class singer- strong enough to be tapped by Peter Gabrel to handle the lead female vocal parts on one of his world tours. Her songs are personal yet accessible and always very musical. It''s no surprise that she's a graduate of Bekelee Sxhool of Music. "This Fire" is one of my favorite albums and songs from her other releases are faves too,. The hits "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone" and "I Don't Wanna Wait" are great songs, which show a certain pop side of Paula Cole. She has a lot more to offer and her range is deep. And singing simply doesn't get any bettter than Paula's. There was a lot of love from both sides of the stage at this concert.

What a variety of music! We were never bored. Paula showed her range by choosing songs that showcased her amazing voice. The first tune was a little challenging, so I was worried that the whole show was going to be "artsy". She mixed it up giving us a variety that appealed to the four of us that saw the performance. It was a wonderful evening.

I first became aware of Paula Cole on the Peter Gabriel "So" tour. I just fell in love with her that night. Peter knew talent when he saw it! Finally got to see her perform at Villa Montalvo in a "3 piece" band. Having just this small group was all she needed to show the audience what kind of a performer she is. Her voice is unique with a performing style that is all her own.

Was not familiar with the artist prior to attending the performance Friday night, but I am now, Ms Cole has added another devoted fan to the many others in attendance. Ms. Cole's singing was off the charts. She made me both laugh and cry. Her writing and presentation was an emotional rollercoaster. I found myself holding my breath not wanting to miss a single word of her poignant, profound performance. I would and have recommended her show to all of my friends. I will be watching for her return so I can once again be mesmerized by her vocal range and touching, moving performance.

She delivers such passion in her lyrics & incredible voice. Had seen her back in the 90's when she was not the headliner - can't remember who was................somewhere here in the Tampa Bay area. The Capitol Theatre is a great venue - I had only been there once before - when it was a movie theater & I saw "Jaws". Its a tremendous asset to downtown Clearwater & would welcome seeing another show there.

Paula Cole's eight-year absence from the music industry had her worried, a thought she shared from the stage. No worries! She made her mark in the 80's and 90's but she is far from done crafting personal insights into songs so many of us can relate to.

Paula Cole's voice remains as strong and vibrant as ever. Whether she's whispering softly or whaling in an emotional plea, she has a voice which remains unsurpassed when compared to the American Idol performers of the last several years or any of her contemporaries. Couple that with an incredible musical ability and strong stage-presence, there's no mistaking why she remains in a class all to herself. Do not pass up the opportunity to see such a truly gifted and spiritual artist.

Breathless, spine tingling, tears in your eyes, hair standing up on your arms, utter shock that someone could be this good is what the show felt like. The aftertaste it left you with was great too, because it left you feeling refreshed and full of love. There was no doubt that you had just witnessed greatness! Thank you Paula, Thank you so much! Not since the early days of Elton John have I witnessed some one become one with their instrument as Paula does with her voice and piano. It is amazing to watch her play with such intense feelings while at the same time singing her heart out. I saw Paula first with Peter Gabriel on the "So" tour, and then again solo after her second CD came out. I have always loved her and knew she was incredible but she blew my socks off this time. It was a great mix of old and new, some standing at the mike, some behind the keys. The first song (3rd song in the set) she did at the piano was "Mississippi" and in all my years I have never seen anything like it. That alone was worth the price of admission! I would have been content to watch her play that song over and over. Every song she did was amazing though. She is in a category by her self. There is no one I have seen, (and I have seen most of them) that plays with the fire and emotion that Paula does. Please do yourself a huge favor and see her anytime you can. You will not be disappointed. If you are like me you will walk away in disbelief that someone can actually be this good. Love, Love, Love you Paula! Thank you leaving us with such a positive and warm feeling after seeing you.

Having owned most if not all of her studio albums, we had a fair idea of what to expect...an artist who would expose her life and very soul through her music. And she gives it to you, right between the eyes. Her set list was a good mix of tunes from her albums including her recent release. Lights and sound systems were all fine. But it's her stunning presence and command of her own stage that is amazing. She has proven yet again that musically and lyrically she is one of the best artists of our time.

Never having seen Paula Cole perform live I was amazed with her solid professional performance. Her voice range was outstanding (even with strep throat) and her band was very tight. Her new songs came off better than the CD and her performances of "I Believe In Love" and "I Am Your Ordinary" were emotionally charged and classic. The encore included her version of "Jolene" with a thanks to Dolly. She struted her stuff to the hilt with her "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone". Paula singing with passion and fire made it a memorable, enjoyable evening.

I've been a Paula Cole fan for 10+ years, so when I heard she was playing at the Birchmere I bought tickets immediately. Paula was absolutely amazing. She's sweet, strong, talented, energetic, and gives the audience a great show. If you think she sounds good on a recording, wait until you hear her in person. She has a great voice and isn't afraid to use it. She shared some of her new tunes with us, but also gave us a "retrospective" of her older works such as "Where have all the cowboys gone?" and "I don't want to wait." Her renditions of older works revealed an artist with a familiar relationship with songs she's performed a thousand times; the performances were comfortable, deep, sung from the heart, sometimes playful when the occasion called for it. Her newer tunes are the work of a mature artist; they possess a powerful depth and strength. Even if you're not a Paula Cole fan, go to a show. She's a professionally trained musician with unbelievable talent of a magnitude that one usually needs to go to an opera to see.

Paula Cole still has the most amazing voice! She performed songs from each of her albums. She had 2 bandmates - a guitar player, and a percussionist - who were both excellent as well. She told cute stories and interacted nicely with the crowd. The only thing I missed from the show was back-up vocals. On her recordings there are always beautiful harmonies and I really missed them at the show. I'm sure it's expensive to add another vocalist to the tour, but I really think it would add a lot. But honestly, with a voice like Paula's who really needs another one?

This is the 3rd time I have seen her in concert and once again, it was amazing. I have all of her CD's but they don't replace the experience of listening to her perform live. When she is speaking, she comes across as a rather shy and humble artist who is grateful for the opportunity to express her talent. Then she begins to sing and she is an absolute powerhouse. Her vocals are like ones I have never heard. Paula has an amazing range and she leaves you breathless. Her band was incredible too. They obviously love playing together and were totally in sync with her. Paula did some wonderful new music from Ithaca, her new CD, but didn't forget that the audience still loves to hear their favorites and she didn't let us down.

Paula mixed new songs from Ithaca with some earlier music. For three instruments (not counting Paula's gifted instrument of voice) the sound is so full...great energy. Paula really makes you think, dig deep into the mysteries of emotion. She sings her stories so well, and often times hits nerves in oneself you forgot about, or chose to bury -- but that which needs to come forth. I found in her stories many similarities in my own life. I cried, but at the same time I was relieved and thankful. Thank you Paula for your enlightening and enriching experience -- over and over and over. Never stop, your impact is necessary, important, and loved. xo

Paula Cole is a unique talent and true artist. Her music is not only enjoyable to listen to, but clearly very personal and real. It is an amazing thing to me when an artist allows herself to be so raw and vulnerable, and trusts an audience of strangers to receive it in the spirit it is given. I am appreciative and grateful, thank you Paula. I will also add that her guitarist and drummer (Ben Butler, Ben Whitman) were fantastic. The friendships shared by the three of them was evident and beautifully played out in the music. The small venue was perfect!

paula cole gave a performance that refreshed the crowds memory of what a concert is all about. the performer and the people enjoiying each other. paula and her band gave all they had and the the audience appreciated the performance and responded with a warm and entertaining evening. she may have lost some of her fans during her time off but she is back, ready to play and explosive. when it was time for her encore we rushed the stage(you should always do that on an encore, its the only time you can be that close). paula ended her set with a dolly parton song jolene. i was thinking ,"man, why doesn't she end the show with one of her own songs"but after hearing her rendition, you realize how much talent this girl has. she took the song to a new level.check out her bands show and enjoy . what a sweetheart -can't wait to hear her new cd.
