The chemistry between Tyner (and his trio) and Glover was awesome! Combining jazz and tap was a brilliant concept that met the challenge! The performers showed much appreciation for each others' talents. The musical selections were diverse so everyone experienced different jazz styes. I sat with a group of High School students who had just participated in a jazz performance. Their instructor made arangements for them to attend. As the evening progressed, they were totally absorbed. They knew of Mr. Tyner, but had never heard of (or seen) Mr. Glover. They were the first to give a standing ovation at the end of the show. The energy enveloped the room. Encore! Encore!

We had a great time at the Howard Theatre - it is a wonderful venue. And it was the perfect place to showcase the talents of McCoy Tyner and Savion Glover. I am long time fan of both artist and they did not disappoint. I only wish they would have performed longer. However, within a few minutes of watching Savion play his instrument (his feet) I knew he could not stay on the stage long. He performed at a level of intensity that was mind blowing... and beautiful at the same time. The musical and personal rapport between the Tyner and Glover was evident the minute Savion stepped on the stage and we were all the happy beneficiaries. If you have a chance to see them together do it and if you are able to see anything at the Howard go... but get there early for a good seat and dinner.

Savion's performance was amazing as usual but combined with McCoy Tyner at the piano made it a wonderful performance. The newly renovated Howard Theater was a perfect venue for the evening.

While a trip down nastalgia lane was a motivator in my going to hear this venue, with the exception of a powerful performance by the drummer and the command of the bass player, the perfomance left me wanting. Tyner is well past his prime and should never have appeared with a saxaphone player who lacked virtuosity and intensity- John Coltrane would have fallen asleep. Additionally, I feel most of the audience left longing for more Mc Coy Tyner solo spotlighting.

The evening was non-stop inspired talent, where the trio gave their all. The bass player has incredible skill, and when he put the bow to the bass during those moments when McCoy was playing the final soft notes of a number, my insides melted. When McCoy soloed he was tremendous, and the bass and drummer backed him up perfectly. They challenged each other, and I think they were having fun.

Atlanta Jazz Festival @ Piedmont park downtown Atlanta I enjoyed the Atlanta Jazz Festival. Today's special program was McCoy Tyner's live performance. He is one of the greatest jazz pianists in the world. I had heard of him, but I never listened to his music, so I went there to see his performance. A huge audience gathered at the stage. It started @ 9:00PM. I didn't think he was a big man. However his piano perfomance were very dinamic!! It was so excellent, attactive, strong and passionate. He played the piano as is he was hitting a drum. The performance looked like crazy for playing piano in the hell. That was very great! He continued to perform without showing any sign of exhaustion for over one hour even though he was over 60 years old. He stimulated the audience ; it seemed like the passionate love of a young couple. Thus, I was so excited about his performance. He was very energetic and fascinating; I had a wonderful time at the Atlanta Jazz Festival.
