This was my fifth trip to the club. I've only gone to see acts in the twilight of their careers and BB's of AL are in that category. I am not sorry I went to see them, but they are definitely not what they were. I wish I had seen them a few years earlier. As to the club, everytime I go there I have a problem with the food service. This time I ordered a hamburger (medium) and it took more than a half hour and several reminders to get it delived. When it came it was almost totally cold and rare to the point of being uncooked. The couple next to me ordered the same thing after I did and were finished eating long before I was served. The manager brushed it off to a busy kitchen. I defintely will not eat there again, which is what I said the last time.

Blind Boys of Alabama put on a great show, my mom made me go and I was glad. Was one of the best performances I have every seen. I am not a Gospel music fan, but they had me jumping and dancing in my seat ... when they come again, I am going to bring my 15 year old son and some of his friends, because they are that good and they are living history as well ... everyone should see the show

The concert was unbelievable we loved every minute of it . The Christmas songs put you in the spirit and the traditional songs were very inspirational. We would certainly attend another concert and highly reccomend the Blind Boys to others.

Oh my Lord ! This is a 5 year staight Grammy Winning band that can not be missed. Their 6th Grammy is on it's way when the May CD comes out. If you like Gospel music sung by guys who walk the walk, don't be late to this party. If you can't go....buy the CDs. Prepare to be uplifted if you do go. If you are not a believer, go anyway ! Feel what the boys are layin' down and make up your own mind. Shear Fun !

The Blind Boys of Alabama are a tour de force, a combination of high energy, humor and good fun that get even a distinctly northern audience clappin' and hollerin' and laughin' (we were warned they prefer not to have a 'conservative' audience). The sheer joy and energy conveyed by their performances together--even after some 60 years that the 'veterans' have been together--made it a performance not to be missed. If you can bear witness to the Blind Boys of Alabama and not want to clap, stomp, sing and dance, you deserve to live in the cold and dark!

This was truly the show of a lifetime. Having been a fan for 10 years, this is the first chance I've had to experience a live show and it was everything I expected and more from these legendary performers. From the jammin' People Get Ready, Spirit in the Sky and Way Down in the Hole to the heart touching There Will Be a Light, I Shall Not Walk Alone and Amazing Grace the Blind Boys were definitely at the top of their game. Perfect Peace and Up Above My Head were new to me and I was thrilled to find them on the Duets CD for sale in the lobby which I promptly had signed! (and a photo too) Jimmy Carter was as charming and entertaining as usual and if you think he can hold those notes on the CD, you won't believe what he can do live! The Bear's Den is a great little theater and although I was lucky enough to be in the 2nd row, every seat in this intimate venue is good.

The Blind Boys (actually Blind Old Men) are musicians first and foremost. They sing well, harmonize well, and stay together in rhythm well. I happen to like gospel songs in general, so I was looking forward to hearing them for the first time. As far as their musicianship is concerned, I was not disappointed. However, I'm also used to gospel concerts where the focus is on the message at least as much as the music. In this concert, they could have been singing lyrics from pop, rock, opera or anything else, and done it well musically, but the end result from a spiritual standpoint would have been the same. The only song I remembered the next day from the whole concert was "Amazing Grace" to the tune of "House of the Rising Sun." So in that regard I was disappointed. I would rather have attended a concert in which spiritual truths were conveyed in a convincing and compelling manner, even if someone was a little flat or late coming in by half a beat now & then. Bottom line: if you want good music from the blues/gospel style, Blind Boys will deliver. But if you want something more than just entertainment. choose someone else.

Seemed like we waited too long for the Blind Boys to get on the stage, then their set turned out to be pretty short. I love these guys, but too much Allen and not enough of them. Did like the venue.

Toussant surprised many long time fans by performing with only his piano for accompaniment. A subdued Toussaint was reflective as he sang former hits and played selections from his most recent album, the Grammy nominated "Bright Mississippi". This format was a mixed bag. The instrumentals from the album and the reflective story of a childhood's summer night told over a piano rendition of his song "Southern Nights" were effective. His R&B hits like "I Can Can" and Mother -in-Law" were not as successful with only a piano and Toussaint's voice. One is reminded how much those hits owe to his production skills as they fall somewhat flat without all the pizazz. On the other hand the Blind Boys rocked the house with their high energy gospel. Their rendition of "Amazing Grace" was, well, amazing.

This concert was fantastic. Allen Toussaint graced the stage for the first half, playing old as well as new tunes. The most wonderful part was the end, when he told the story behind "Southern Nights," narrating his childhood in New Orleans in his low soulful voice while accompanying himself on the piano. The audience felt like we were in the story with him. Beautifully done. After a long intermission, the Blind Boys came out in a line, one arm on the other's shoulder, decked out in white suits and sunglasses. These guys have been together for over 60 years and it shows. They believe they're on earth for one reason: to sing. That is evident. I lost myself in the music ~ old-time gospel choruses as well as new collaborations with the likes of Ben Harper, and of course their famous rendition of Amazing Grace. CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP! During their last song, the Blind Boys got the ENTIRE crowd up on their feet, clapping to a 20-minute riff!! We had nosebleed seats but that didn't stop us from jumping to our feets and joining in! These guys were in the ZONE, dancing and singing, coming out into the crowd, there was so much excitement and joy ~ one of the best concerts I've ever been to!

Allen Toussaint reminded me what it is like to listen to and watch a terrifically talented musician and performer. His piano playing is virtuostic and his singing has an honesty and soulfulness that is refreshing. I did not realize how expansive his book of music is. In transitioning from Toussaint to the Blind Boys of Alabama, I was not sure that closing with them was best...Boy, was I wrong. they are phenominal. Their voices, harmony and joyfulness had us all on our feet. Their band was every bit equal to the task of this fabled vocal group....a great evening of music!

Though the venue changed at the last minute, the performance in Houston's House of Blues was absolutely MIND blowing. Intimate. Amazing.

The Blind Boys of Alabama was extremely exciting and uplifting. I've always heard them when I was a young girl, but it was truly a moving experience to see them in person. They are truly personable and comical. Yes, I will recommend that others see their performance.

Having seen Ruthie and her band several times in the past, we were very impressed with how very powerful her vocals are and the tightness of the group. Her range of songs showed the depth of her repertoire. They are such a fun, talented, and totally entertaining group. This is the first but will not be the last time (hopefully) that we get to experience the Blind Boys. What power, what harmony, what dynamic music they present. Their message framed in solid gospel music is just a joy to experience. Definitely on the best concerts we've been to.

The Blind Boys actually turned out to be a lot of fun, but we went to see Ruthie. She is truly truly talented, both as a singer and as a performer. Kudos to the ladies that accompanied her too. I'd go see her again at any possible opportunity!

The main draw of the 'Blind Boys of Alabama' provided a most enjoyable concert. It was evident they have performed together for a very long time - great harmonies. My only wish is that they would sing for a longer time.
