The combination of these Levon Helm, Ray Lamontagne, and The Secret Sisters was amazing--new and old but they melded so perfectly!

Forget Barnum and Bailey. This is the best show on Earth. We flew from PA to Memphis the day of the concert, and the cost, exhaustion and time was more than worth it. Ray played a lot of his new album, and he didn't dissapoint. Most of Levon's songs were from The Band days and it was great. If you're a fan of either, go. You'll leave a fan of both.

Ray LaMontagne played longer than a typical opening act and it was a great performance. The set was tight - interwoven with soft solo ballads and outright kick butt blues numbers. Ray's voice was better in person than even his best recordings we all know - Trouble, etc... The Pariah Dogs provided solid backup with jangling guitars, pedal steel and a bass player who played as soulful as Ray sang. He could easily have been the headliner. Levon was obviously under the weather as he had a large container of tissues near his drum kit he had to frequently use. I missed hearing his voice on standards as Shape I'm In and Loving you is sweeter than.... but that's where any disappointment ended. Backed by a sassy and raucus horn section - amazing piano rifts and vocals from Brian Mitchell - ripping guitar licks - and guest solo singing from Amy Helm and Susan Tedeschi more than filled the gap. Levon's drumming was dead on - perfect timing - his wonderful signature positioning and recognition he gives to the band members who make their mark on a song. Also a great performance from Derek Trucks who sat in on a couple of songs as well.

In Chicago for business. Heard about the show so I gathered up a few of my associates. An incredible show. Great band, tight without losing any spontanaity. Levon Helm's vocals were as good as they were 40 years ago. If they come to your town, go see them. Absolutely.

Levon Helm is still....at age 70 and after defeating throat cancer...the best drummer in any band I have seen in my lifetime. I sat front row at the Greek in the Orchestra Pit and I watched from 5 feet away, how he was ALWAYS in rhythm. They opened with "" and when they did "Shape I'm In," the keyboard player, Brian Mitchell was fabulous and his vocals are the throaty type typified by the late, great Richard Emanuel. They did a wonderful cover of "Tennessee Jed" and at the end of the 2 hour show (no break), they did some more stuff from The Band, ending with a Dylan tune, I "Shall Be Released." The two ladies also sound good on "It Makes No Difference." In my opinion, the highlight of the concert was the incredible version of The Band's "Chest Fever." As to the warm up band, Jenny Lewis appears to have had a lot of Ronstadt influence her. Her band really rocked. I took away from the show that Levon is very thankful to be able to play with such vigor and definitely played off the crowd and vice versa. It is a shame that his voice is not what it once was, for obvious reasons---but it was such a treat to hear him and his band from such a close location. 26 years ago, I was at The Greek to see The Band (minus Robbie Robertson) open for CS&N on Independence Day. I am grateful that I was able to catch Levon at the Greek and I strongly urge all fans of The Band in particular, but also good folk/bluegrass music to catch them when they play in your town:-)

Awesome show. Assembly of Dust was a great opening act. I'm a new fan. Levon Helm was great, Great music. The venue was cramped and jammed. I was up front right to stage. But all in all a great night of music.

Completely blown away by the size of the group... Keyboardist Brian Mitchell on the B-3 and the Roland 900 Pro, plus Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba (yes, Tuba), Tenor, soprano and baritone sax, Bass, 2 guitars, and Levon on Drums (mostly) and Mandolin. These guys filled up the room and the audience was very much into the show. Levon acknowledged the applause frequently and seemed to always have a big toothy smile. Very please to hear his signature vocals on many favorites, including The Weight, 10 Years Ago and others. Go see these guys if you ever get the opportunity. You will be very pleased that you did.

This concert was well worth the purchase price. Levon and his band played for two and a half hours. Despite an exhausting performance, Levon still responded to the wildly enthusiastic audience with an encore number. The diversity of the group's music was a delightful surprise. Country, rock, folk, and jazz were some of the sounds we enjoyed. The musicians were multi-talented, and Levon makes sure everyone on the stage gets their chance to shine. Several other musicians were brought out to perform, like Emmy Lou Harris, and Levon's smiling countenance reflected the joy he felt in being present. However, he is the one whom people came to see and hear. I have known this amazing guy since he was performing at school talent shows, and it is gratifying to see how much he is loved and appreciated for his sincere humility, as well as his incredible talent. When they played "Take Me Back to Tennessee, Jed", this crowd at the Ryman jumped to their feet!

This show was by far one of the best shows I have seen. I will tell you, if you're going to hear Levon sing many of his songs you may be disappointed. Unfortunately his voice will not let him do that. That being said, musically, it was one of the best shows ever. I loved the opening song: "The Shape I'm In". There were so many musical guests it was amazing. It shows that many musicians love and adore his music. I'm sure every city he visits he will have musicians wanting to play with him. I am a drummer myself, I also sing 3 or 4 of Levons tunes from the band. Thumbs up

We felt good vibes even stuck in traffic getting into the show. The setup is exceptional for seeing and listening to music. Clean, organized and full of good people. Don't forget the scenery! The views are spectacular, especially looking down the hill where the original stage for Woodstock was assembled. One of the best concerts I have attended. If you like the outdoors, don't miss Bethel Woods! It's a "trip" back in time. Simply beautiful!

AWESOME!!!!! Great venue at Bethel Woods and Great Concert. It was a flashback to the sixties with all of the Groups playing the songs they made famous at Woodstock '69. As an added bonus. Mountain's lead singer gave us an intimate seat at his impromptu wedding on stage. He actually exchanged vowes to his lady who was dressed in full traditional white wedding gown. The fans loved it. But the music is what the event was all about it. Country Joe was the Emcee and it did a great job. He also performed the songs he sang at the original woodstock and gave his famous chant give me an F to the crowds cheers. I wasn't at the original Woodstock Concert but I saw the movie and this was a great live performance and remembrance of the past concert of '69.

This was a great event and get together to honor the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. All the groups with some new members performed the songs we all wanted to hear with the same energy and quality of the the original band. I enjoyed everthing about it. The transition from group to group was quick and easy. Having Country Joe McDonald as the MC was superb. The weather was fanrastic this time around and the spirit of that era was everywhere.

My wife and I took our Mom's who both missed the 1st Woodstock. It was a great day of fun, laughter, and music! Each one of us reflected on what it must have been like on Max Yasgur's farm 40 years earlier. I'm sure we all had varying emotional connections but we all agreed on one thing; peace and love is the way to go! One quick musical note: Cathy Richardson (Jefferson Starship) and Sophia Ramos (Big Brother) blew the doors off the place! They were outstanding singer s who more than captured Janis & Grace's original energy and vocal prowess!! I would recommend everyone follow these two powerhouse performers in their future musical endeavors. I know I will! As for Woodstock's 40th, I'm already looking forward to taking my 5 & 8 year olds to the 50th; keeping that spirit alive! Until then, peace and love...

Fabulous day and night...wish it were a 3-day event, which our entire group agreed on. Extremely well organized, a wonderful, peaceful event, we all had a great time, connected today and enthusiastically talked about the artists, our takes on the event, and the sensational woodstock moments we were living. The artists were awesome, the songs super. Concessions were laid out and staffed well. The main bathrooms behind t lawn seat area were clean and convenient. Parking was easy, Will Call was very smooth. Very pleased lawn chairs were available on site, which we had not arranged for beforehand.

Have you ever spent an evening with an old friend and felt that you probably wouldn't see them again and so the time seems both precious and somehow sad-making all at once? Well that doggoned son of an Arkansas dirt farmer, Levon Helm, has pulled that act on me since 1976 and I'm getting to the point that I swear that these old house-counting eyes won't tear up-but they do. Making taut authentic records since 19freaking59 and delivering superb live musicianship with a coterie of seminal musicians including Ronnie Hawkins, Muddy Waters, Dr. John, Paul Butterfield, Allen Toussaint, Steve Earl,Donald Fagen, The Staple singers, Howard Johnson, Johnnie Johnson, Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn,Johnny Cash, Elvis' boys Scotty and Bill, Bob Dylan, his current generously talented amalgamation and many others (not to mention his cohorts in stretching so-called Rock Music both forward and, incredibly, credibly backward: The Band!) Levon Helm is beyond legend at our house. I saw Levon five times with The Band in it's original incarnation, once with his cousins' group The Cate Brothers, once with Garth the Great and Richard and Rick with the Cates and four times with the Jericho-era Band (the first time, interestingly, with Billy Preston filling the role vacated by the death of Stan Sylest prior to Richard Bell in Richard Manuel's rocking chair;-- r.i.p. to those IvoryPounders]. The Bride From Across the Great Divide and I made the small p pilgrimage to the house that brings a smile and a spine-tingling Ramble in May 06 with a ghostly John Sebastian playing harmonica and hiding near the horn section and doubling my visit with an old friend deja vu. Last year in Grand Rapids at the Meier Gardens and now, improbably, at the Michigan Theatre. Sure, he was great. I had a little nervousness at the start when he didn't sing for the first few selections. Not for me, mind you , I'd pay to see him drum with No, 2 pencils on The Yellow Pages, but for those kind people worried about his health and throat troubles, but that old rascal was just setting us up. Again. God Bless Levon Helm!

Probably in the top 3 lifetime concerts. Departed with a feeling that I had reached a higher plane. There is certainly a difference in watching an entertainer and watching an artist. Levon is an artist. Listening to him sing the last song with his daughter a cappella was like watching Picasso draw.

Just a great concert. With as many as 13 skilled musicians on stage at any time. Such a wide range of music was presented from some of The Bands early hits to beautiful gospel songs. While many songs were raucous and rockin' there were quiet subdued moments too.

I am a lifelong fan of Levon and the Band and have everything they ever recorded. The back-up band was very good, similar in style to the group Springsteen used on the Seeger Sessions CD. Levon appeared ill and emaciated; he actively performed a few numbers and when he did; had little energy or fire. So sad, He once was the best....

I was a little disappointed that Levon Helm did not do more singing on his own songs. Singers did not do justice on some numbers such as "Tennessee Jedd" and "When I Go Away." They just did not have as much uummpphh as Levon's voice does. Nice variety in song selection though. The keyboard player had the best voice among singers. Loved "Bougeous Town!" At the very end, I did have a few good cries. When Levon did sing "The Weight", I shed a fear tears because the storyline was very true to me. The day before I met up with a woman on the eastside of Milwaukee looking for a homeless shelter for herself and her son. She had to leave an abusive domestic violence situation. I could only refer her to the Pathfinders down North Avenue at least for her son. Otherwise, she was trying to get $$$$ for a bus ticket to Chicago. Also had some tears with the encore number. It was so beautiful and spirtual for a song one would here at a funeral. Overall, there were times I really wanted to relocate to TENNESSEE or KENTUCKY since I've been tired of living in Milwaukee for almost 2 years now. "The only place I'd rather be though if really CHICAGO (sorry Levon.)" I just felt a kind of mellowness from this performance that I have not felt in a long while. Thanks for a different type of performance. Maybe, in a way, I might end up retiring down south some day. Another note -- the dog coming out was really cute. How come he was not put out front and even incorporated into the show? He would have been a really nice down-home country feel to the show.

Levon Helm is a musical treasure who still exudes a joyful exuberance despite his age and outwardly frail appearance. This was my 3rd Levon Helm Band concert in the past 3-4 years. This band sounds fantastic and is loaded with talent. Levon is just back from some undisclosed medical procedure. I suspect it had to do with his voice, as he did no speaking and very limited singing, with much less voice than last time I saw him. But his influence and inspiration is very evident - and his band puts on quite the show. Larry Campbell, band leader and music director, is the leader of this band. He is the pro's pro, a true class act who admires, supports and defers to Levon. Larry is apparently without ego, because he is a star that not too many people know about. Larry, as it was said about The Band in its heyday, is pretentiously unpretentious. I will catch this band any time I can!

What a terrific show Levon Helm did with his band at the Fillmore. First, Fillmore is a great place to see a show. Got their well after doors opened, enjoyed a nice meal at the bar, and was still able to negotiate our way throught the friendly crowd to get a spot front and center against the rail. Don't mind the standing GA when you can get this close. Levon and the band played a great set with lots of familiar songs, a few covers, and some with which I was not so familiar. Daughter Amy Helm has an amazing voice and is a joy to watch. What a treat when Levon came out from behind the drum kit (placed side stage so he could see the band, they could see him, and the crowd could see him as well). Levon was feeling frisky, and even did an obscene looking dance with the mandolin between his legs. Great fun, and can't wait to see Levon and the band again.

Levon wasn't in very good voice, but he was OBVIOUSLY having a lot of fun and basically played the role of host-emeritus for the many younger folks in his band. His set opened and closed with two great singalongs (at least for those of us of a certain age), This Wheel's On Fire and I Shall Be Released. The set was a bit more country than The Band's setlists were, with a several-tune all-acoustic mini-set in the middle. Two great chick singers (one of them daughter Amy Helm) with close, high harmonies contributed to the country feel. But overall everything was still much closer to a Band-like sound and song selection than to a country affect. A special shout-out to Teresa Williams, whose Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning surely made East Coast buildings shake more than this summer's earthquake. Levon didn't look good. Drawn, quite stooped, and with his awkward, angular arm movements even more pronounced than they always were. He sang only one or two tunes all the way through, and just a single verse on a few others. I'd go see him and his band again and again anyway, but even more so now, since I wonder how much longer he's going to be able to do this.

It was a Very Hot & Humid night in Cntral Park. Emmylou Harris Was great! Unfortunately, Levon's voice was in a rough way. After all he's been through,he can still play those drum's, but his voice is not what it once was. That being said,Levon's Band was teriffic. He had a lot of help with the vocal's. David Bromberg was a very nice surprise! And the Grateful Dead's "Attic's of my Life" was a definately a highlite! All in All a good show. Take care of that voice Levon!

This was an excellent concert (even in the rain!) Although Levon can hardly sing anymore the rest of his band fills in perfectly. Amy Helm, pregnant and all, had an incredible voice! All the musicians were terrific!!

The show should have been called Emmylou Harris with special guest Levon Helm as there were only 3 "The Band" songs played.

The night was hot and steamy. It rained on us, but felt good. The rain stopped, we stayed and had a great time. Levon (after surgery), his voice is trying to sing, but he was straining. He only sang 2 songs. His daughter ( ready to drop the baby) has a golden voice. The band was fantastic. Emmylou sang at the end with them after her solo appearance. A great show. Wish it was longer. Emmylou played about an hour, and Levon played about 1 1/2 hrs. Gate opened at 5, first player at 6, Emmylou on at 7, Levon on at 8:20. Need more food vendors. 3 for all that crowd was too long a wait. You had plenty of drinks though, good call for all that heat!

The Levon Helm band put on a great show! Levon's band had about 15 pieces, including a horn section with Howard Johnson on tuba. The rain held off almost to the end of the show, but most people put up umbrellas or put on ponchos. The lightning was a little scarry, but it didn't strike close enough to stop the show. Levon's daughter Amie, who is very pregnant, sang backup and lead vocals for most of the show. Levon has had throat cancer, and his voice is not what it used to be, but he did sing a few songs. His drummiong was as good as ever.

I've seen Levon and his "Family" many times but the show at Summerstage was just unbelievable. And with Hayes and Emmylou starting off...it wasn't just a warm up...it was the beginning of 4+ hours of amazing music. It's always extra special to see the performers from Ollabelle with Levon. As a side, Tony Leone fits in so well with the style of music. He is truly one of the premier drummers around. Would have liked to see Fiona up there also but she was attending to her beautiful child during the show. And Theresa Williams is just so passionate you can't help but get lost in the moment. Larry as always is the humble leader of great performers. It was great seeing Chris Bergson and his lovely wife Kate at the show. And blessings to Amy with her second little one soon to join the family. Thanks go out to Levon for years of truly wonderful American music.

As much as I love Levon the man, his band, and catalog of music, I was disappointed. It's not his fault that he couldn't do any singing, but the song selection seemed weird. The women sing great, but there were too many songs just for them in my opinion, and the "Attics of My Life" with Larry and the ladies seemed to drag on forever. It didn't help that Bromberg ruined the show for my by missing just about the whole verse of "The Weight" (and not seeming to care), after he'd come out previously for two lackluster tunes that I presume were his own. I would have loved to hear more Dylan covers, Band tunes, and maybe more old blues or bluegrass standards.

I've been a big Levon Helm fan ever since I first saw the movie 'The Last Waltz' about 20 years ago. I was just blown away by that movie and the songs I heard. As soon as I read that Levon would be playing in the area I jumped on the chance to see his band. We purchased front-row seats, and when my son and I sat in our seats we could notice that drums were setup right in front of us - in the front of the stage, right-hand side - jackpot! Levon played right in front of us the entire night, that was so nice. The song selections were awesome, and all of the other musicians in the band were really talented and amazing. My son has been taking drum leasons for 2 years and I was so happy when I saw Levon do a very unique drum "swipe" on the top-hat. The drum swipe made a unique and pleasant sound in addition to being cool to watch. Seeing that drum swipe made the entire night even more special. During the final songs the crowd surged forward and we stood up for the last few songs. During the last song someone handed my son a copy of the playlist, which I will have framed along with the drum stick he received personally from Levon himself after the show. Thank you Levon Helm for a great and special concert that I was able to share with my son.

We've enjoyed quite a few Levon Helm shows in the past. This show was quite different. It no longer spotlights Levon, instead the band, led by Larry Campbell , is the show. Levon ,it seems, has permanently lost his voice. The vocal duties are equally shared by Larry Campbell, Brian Mitchell, Amy Helm and Teresa Williams. The music is taking a new direction blending more old timey, gospel and to a lesser extent The Band hits. Levon still provides the spiritual leadership and solid drumming. He is still the object of fan adulation and continues to exhibit his love and dedication to his craft. He is an American Treasure. The show is as tight as ever. The band is a killer. Overall, a great show. My only complaint is ,without the major draw, Levon, singing, the tickets for lesser, but still great, performers is exorbitant. The opening act , walked onstage and advised the audience that she was about to throw up. Guest star,David Bromberg, whom I enjoy, twice forgot the lyrics to his numbers, including The Weight.

Levon Helm and his friends were absolutely awesome! The opening act, however, was grating to say the least....Add that to the fact that the A/C in the Keswick wasn't working very well and you get what was a memorable, but for the wrong reasons evening....I never leave a concert early but this one I did...

I felt the band that played was good. The musicians were good. The set list was dissappointing because they played very few songs from both Levon Helm cds and only three band songs. The thing that annoyed me the most is that Levon did not sing one song. I went to see Levon Helm and ended up hearing everyone else sing. I assume that something was wrong with his voice but it was still disappointing. I enjoyed David Bromberg but that was not who I paid to see.

The night with Levon Helm was simply amazing… the band ( 13 pcs I believe) was a good as it gets…What else would you expect from the man who brings you The Midnight Ramble …Larry Campbell , band leader , singer & musician extraordinaire… along with his wife Teresa Williams & Levon s daughter Amy on vocals & mandolin, had our complete & undivided attention! Along with Jim Weider on guitar & Brian Mitchell on the keyboards, they all gave us all a most memorable night…Both Amy & Teresa belted out some remarkable vocals…those girls can sing!!! & Brian was sounding an awful lot like Dr John…it was awesome As for Levon, what a joy it must be to share his time on stage with such a talented daughter! What a way to make a livin It was a night to remember for sure, great music & vocals, fantastic musicians. All in a great venue…I feel sorry for those who missed it! Would I do it again… in a minute!

at 70, Levon rocks, thats a given, no question about it. Even though he was backed up on drums and vocals for most of the time, the man was a joy to watch perform some of the classic Band tunes like Ophelia, Shape I'm In, and The Weight etc. That said, the rest of the band is definitely worth the price of admission in their own right. Harmony throughout, vocals are amazing, my attention never waned even during the slower songs. Go see it, you're going to have great time, guaranteed.

Would definately give 5 stars, but nothings perfect. Talent and setlist wise the show was great. Every member of the band was aknowledged by name and showcased with indivdual solos. There were some sound issues during some horn and guitar solos that diminished the effect. Instead of highlighting the performer, there was noticable silence. That was my only issue, otherwise I definately recommend seeing this band. The "Band" songs are iconic and Levons new songs are a mix of New Orleans Jazz, deep delta blues some bluegrass/rockabilly and even classical. The band even covered some Grateful Dead songs which this audience loved. I think this band offers something for just about everybody, and once again I would definately recommend seeing them.

The Levon Helm Band exceeded all of our expectations. He has put together one of the finest bands I have ever seen and his radiance and enthusiam for all of the members of the band and the audience was limitless. I went with a 16 year old son and an 11 year old daughter and got a lot of 'thanks dad' from each of them over the last couple of days. They have seen a number of performers over the years but Levon and his band was truly an unforgetable evening for all of us, thanks Levon.

Levon Helm and his quite large band played an excellent show Sunday night at UB. The highlights were too numerous to mention. They played many Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead and Band covers as well as old Blues tunes with tremendous skill as well as heart. This is the way music used to be and Levon and his band bring the love of these tunes with them to every lucky city that they travel to. Like the bluesmen that Levon idolized and got to play with before they passed on (like Muddy Waters), Levon Helm won't be around forever and should be cherished while he can still tour.

Was anticipating a fabulous show and was most certainly not disappointed. The sheer energy of Levon and the band was breathtaking. The band was tight and the versatility of the members was awesome. While Levon reigned king over the drums, the other band members covered a vast variety of instruments, adding great depth to the performance. Although Levon's voice is not as soul-stirring as pre-cancer, he still belted out a few favorites. His band more than covered the rest. Was also impressed by the choice of songs...from Helm, to The Band, to Dylan, the Dead, even Lead Belly. Hope I can rock like Levon when I'm 70!

I went to this concert to keep my husband company, and it was one of the best concert decisions I've ever made! The Levon Helm Band blew me away. The musicianship was incredible and the singing inspiring. What a perfect evening -- watching a band that took joy in making music. Levon was generous in sharing the spotlight and gave all of his band members a chance to shine. Larry Campbell is truly a gifted singer and musician and he was flanked by two wonderful singers -- Levon's daughter, Amy Helm, and Larry Campbell's wife, Theresa Williams. Their harmonies were angelic!
