The performances were great. It was a Goldilocks show...not too long not too short. The musicians were top shelf. I look forward to the next great show. Thank you for awesome evening!

Wonderful performances and dialogue, almost interview style, with fun questions and a little personal history from Pat himself. A nice personal jam session of the audience with some of Pats classics with McBride doing his usual amazing bass playing. This show was a fun treat for Metheny fans and a more personal view and relationship to Pat in a small theater setting. Just McBride and Metheny doing what they do best. More music and an encore would have been a welcome addition, but overall it was a great show for the "One on One" type it was billed as.

I have been a HUGE fan of Dianne Reeves for about 25 years, traveled to see her several times. This time, she did not perform much at all, and there was a lot of just shooting the breeze and chatting on stage. She didn't sing any of my favorites. She even said that concerts were like "FREE", because of all the travel. Well, I understand the toll that travel can take on anyone, but really? I really was a bit disappointed, although there were a few good spots, with the base player (McBride). Dianne even said she doesn't read reviews. So, I say to her that she should perform like big stars do on stage! While I can't compare Diane to the likes of Janet Jackson, I went to Janet's concert a couple of weeks later, and Janet PERFORMED!!! That's what I expect from a singer! Diane just sat there and hummed a few songs. She doesn't even dress for the occasions. I was really disappointed. It was good seeing Dianne in good health and all, but I just didn't get what I expected. I guess she is tired. IDK. Mr. McBride, you tried and I did like your part. This just wasn't good overall. I'm so sorry I feel this way, but based on comments from other concert go'ers, they had the same concerns.

Unfortunately, it fell very short....There was a slim resemblance of James Brown.. ..the concert did not contain the music or soul of James Brown....The opportunity to pay a 'tribute' was there, however, it never got off the ground....it was disappointing...

While the overall event was good, it could have been WAY better! The most disappointing part was that the evening, called GET ON UP, did not include that famous song.

Tribute to James Brown was a disappointment. The show was way too short. An intermission after only 3 or 4 songs. Ended at 10:10...No encore. It felt like it was thrown together at the last minute.

No video clips of James Brown. Very few of the songs were recognizable as a James Brown venue. One entertainer brought in political views--BIG NO NO!!!!!!!!! The best performer was the first lady who sang first, Bettye LaVette--I would go see her again! This tribute could have been done so much better--very disappointed

Had low expectations as I wasn't very familiar with the artists but wow was I surprised. Really enjoyed it from start to finish. The only thing that could have better is if they had played longer.

BRAVO! How fortunate we were to be a part of the joyful audience engaged by the spectacular tributes to the great legends of jazz -- Dizzy Gillespie and Ella Fitzgerald. Lizz Wright, Valerie Simpson, Regina Carter, Gregory Porter and all of the musicians in the amazing big band conducted by Christian McBride transported us back to the great performances of these jazz icons. I'm sure Dizzy and Ella were happy ancestors and we were happy supporters of America's greatest cultural contribution. The Moody Jazz Festival should end every year with such a magnificent commemorative ritual!

We loved the show!!! My husband and I came up from DC for this and we were definitely not disappointed. I listen to WGBO in Newark online and heard about the Centennial. I told my husband that I was going no matter who chose to go with me. He's a professional drummer here in DC and is not easily impressed but he consented to come. We were impressed by the quality of the music, the performers and the arrangement and pacing of the show. It turns out that my husband has been following Christian McBride for years. He performs at the Kennedy Center so I will be watching for him. NJPAC is likely to see us again though we're not sure when but definitely for the James Moody Jazz Festival next year.

I didn't think a bass and voice could be so completely entertaining. My favorite artists are almost always vocalists. I am a major Dianne Reeves fan. It was wonderful seeing her in such an intimate setting and sharing the platform with such an awesome peer. I was 6 rows from the stage. Watching Christian McBride play was almost like witnessing an erotic act as he caressed his bass. To listen only would be to miss so much of the effect. As a result, I checked out his 2011 Conversations album. I would welcome an opportunity to see them together again. There are not enough superlatives to describe McBride and Reeves one on one.

McChristian Orchestra, trumpeter Sean Jones and violinist Regina Carter made musical magic and did great service to Dizzy's compositions and genius as an artist. Lizz Wright and Gregory Porter transported all present to the higher plain of Ella's musical repertoire and incredible musicianship. A fan of Valerie Simpson but her gift is in accompanying herself on the piano as she rocks her own compositions; renditions of the American Songbook not her strength.

This was a 2 for 1 because The Gary Starling Group opened, and then the trio was amazing. Very upbeat, intense playing from all three, maybe the best trio around today. Certainly the best upright bassist I have ever heard. The Ritz Theater has great acoustics.

I loved this event! Hopefully, McBride will be continuing his One on One series with other artists/musical associates. I am a new fan of McBride. He can definitely work that bass! With regard to Metheny, I make sure to see him perform once a year! I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. He NEVER disappoints. McBride and Metheny played a little music, then talked a bit, then involved the audience in a musical game. The show could have been longer and I would have loved if Metheny came back for one encore performance. It was an honor to hear Metheny speak about his music. He is passionate and modest. Great show!!!!!!!!

Pat and Christian provided a great show. I enjoyed the conversion and banter from the audience when allowed. I would have skipped Christian's attempt at sport trivia and perhaps let the audience ask a few questions. I also would have loved a solo by both artists.

It was an amazing event strolling down memory lane with the legendary King of Soul. The special guest star portraying James Brown would have set it off by appearing in character and mimicking James moves and groves a little more helping the younger crowd to feel the funk as the older reminisced as if James did a re-appearance today. However, the James Brown orchestra had the people on their feet moving and grovin to the beat as James would have liked it! He was smiling down and sayin that's the James Brown way!

I checked Ticketmaster, the Hollywood Bowl's website and even Googled "what time does the Hollywood bowl close" and "how late do shows at the Hollywood Bowl go" and couldn't find an answer. Any show I've been to there has always gone until 11. That being said, I purchased a garden box for this event. The event started at 8pm I found out I would be working until 9:15pm that night, but really only wanted to catch the last two acts of many so I wasn't worried. I arrived at 9:45pm, was seated by 9:52pm and the show ended at 10:12pm. And I was told there was even a 20 minute intermission meaning the whole show was less than 2 hours. I spent $500 on a box for 20 minutes of music. If I had known it was ending that early I would have just sold the tickets weeks before the show. If I got even an hours worth I would have been happy but this was ridiculous. I heard others who were there for the whole show say they were disappointed in how short the show was as they were leaving. When I asked an usher they said it had always been scheduled to end at that time but when I asked where I could have found that information they said it should've been on the website. You should really begin posting the duration of shows, especially if they're going to be short like this.

JB was known for his tight bands and high expectations for his players. This band did not do him justice. Some good players and some nice solos, but they were anything but tight and anything but high energy funk. I stopped counting the number of missed hits. The event did not seem well coordinated and it didn't seem that much attention was given to how the show would flow. Two missed cues by singers? And each singer, when they did show up, came on stage to music that they would not sing. The band then stopped, leaving each singer just standing there. Each singer should have entered to the song they would sing, which would have eliminated the awkward stops. And what was up with the MC guy??? This was the Hollywood Bowl, not a wedding.
