The first half of the show was Mike Scott reading from his biography. Mike is a born story-teller, and with his warmth and compassion, we were all riveted, listening to the excerpts from his life's story as the mainstay of The Waterboys. And then .... and then ... Steve Wickham entered, and as they kicked into Savage Earth Heart as the opener song ... when we all realized something magical was about to take place. Starting off with that first song, and ending with The Pan Within for the encore, I am sure everyone was as entranced as I was. Admittedly, I was in tears during a few of the songs ... the entire evening was a truly emotional event. Words can't do it justice. The final song, The Pan Within, was epic. Mike Scott and Steve Wickham extended it, and played it with a ferocity and tenderness that was overwhelming. As a final treat after the show, Mike Scott autographed copies of his book and we could each chat to him for a few minutes. I had high expectations going to the concert, but this was something beyond what I anticipated. Truly, one of *the* best concert experiences of my life.

The evening at Brighton Music Hall was a delight. The selection of readings from Mike Scott's book was humorous and insightful. The acoustic set that followed was super. It was great to hear Steve Wickham on the fiddle. Big sound from two musicians. It was my first time at the Music Hall, and I would return there. It's a cozy, intimate venue. I agree with Mike Scott. Music videos stifle the unique experience a listener has when he hears a song. However, his own experience concerning videos was pretty amusing and made for a good story. His songwriting is much appreciated.

If you went to see Dylan at the Garden on Sunday, you missed the show of the year! Mike Scott gave us an entertaining and interesting reading from his book that was worth the $20 ticket on it's own. The "short acoustic set" that he and Steve Wickham treated us to afterwards was definitely the best musical show I've seen in several years and is in my top 10 all-time shows from my 40+ years of live music shows. Do not miss this show if you get chance to see it!!!!!!!!
