Dave Stewart

DAVE STEWART IN CONCERT:From his days as one-half of legendary synthpop outfit Eurythmics to his acclaimed country-tinged solo outings, Dave Stewart has proven himself to be a dynamic and continually evolving artist. In 2013 he released Lucky Numbers, a heady mix of rock, blues, and country that featured guest appearances from the likes of Martina McBride and Karen Elson. As usual, Stewart matched the workmanship of the album with a string of electrifying performances that have set big expectations among ticket buyers for his upcoming tour dates.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:British-born Dave Stewart got his start with folk-rock band Longdancer, landing a record deal while still in his teens with Elton John's Rocket Record Company.

I was at The Hollywood Bowl August 23, 1964 so I just had to be there 50 years later! LUV'd everything except Billy Ray Cyrus. Hey Jude? Really. Talk about sacrilegious!

It was a fun experience all around. We brought a picnic there, all the Bowl workers were helpful and kind, the show was fun, maybe could have picked some different songs which would have engaged the audience a bit more, but it was fun.

We love concerts at the Bowl, but this was undoubtedly the worst we've attended in the last decade. Dave Stewart was a horrible host. When the third of his children was featured on the program, the couple behind us asked 'will his mother come out next?' The first half was horrible, weak singing, poor prep, off key, constant rotation of guests. I was at Beatles concert in 1964, and this was a sorry tribute to this historic event. The Bowl should have higher standards.

My wife went to the 1964 show. She was 12. We went to two of the Cheap Trip shows. Brilliant! Great Energy which is what the Beatles music needs! This show was BORING, Dave Stewart was OK if he didn't sing and his kids were mediocre. the quest singers were OK except for the Black signer I forget her name, who actually had the energy these songs need! The Aussie girl was good too! but basically a underwhelming show/

I am a lifelong beatles fan and may be a bit bias in how beatles music should sound. Yet I really feel this had been the worst concert I've experienced at the Hollywood bowl. Dave Stewart and family were clearly unprepared and maybe even a bit overwhelmed to perform in front of such a large venue. There were plenty of cringe worthy and awkward moments during the performance. I knew it was a bad sign when Stewart's son started singing the first song, twist and shout, a whole bar too early. The guest performers were the saving grace and relief from the pedestrian Stewart clan. I expected alot better for a concert commemorating one of the greatest bands and their performance at the Hollywood bowl.

Horrible. First half stunk. Embarrassing. Was the Bowl on a tight budget? They hired a horrible MC who had no talent kids sing and play. What were they thinking. The 2dn half did not stink as much, a couple of people sang with soul and heart. Overall, ZERO for an older, sophisticated, experience audience. I'm asking for a refund

This was very disappointing. Not impressed with Dave Stewart, he absolutely ruined our National Anthem. The show should have been billed "Dave Stewart and Family" as 2 of his sons and his daughter performed. One of his sons is quite a good guitar player, the young son that sang had to change the notes of classic Beatles songs, because he didn't have the vocal range and couldn't hit certain high notes. The Stewart daughter was not good at all. Other guests that performed screamed the songs and frankly, were lousy. I heard comments from other patrons around me that echo mine, a number of them said that they had heard better karaoke. What should have been a fun, and wonderful tribute to the Beatles turned out to be a very bad evening.

The women, and people not related to Stewart, stole the show. Billy Ray Cyrus' voice needed more warm up. It appears there should've been more rehearsals to tie the band and singers together. Moments of opportunity between songs was lost.

They used the name the beatles and the location to get fans. The band was awful, voices were awful. they did not sound or have anything like the beatles. They should have had some great artists singing beatles songs. but instead they had the daughter and son of Sterwart. i never would have purchased tickets if I thought this was the case. I am shocked that the hollywood bowl presented this.

Felt it was a performance trying to introduce members of a specific family they had in experience being in front of huge crowd. The purpose was to remember the Beatles but it was a showcase of just a family band trying to make it big.

I went with my mom, who was at the original Beatles show 50 years ago. We both loved this show. Having Bob Eubanks and the other DJ come out in the beginning was a great touch. It really personalized the show. Their stories were funny, heartwarming, and entertaining. The variety of musicians who played the concert was diverse and exciting. The Hollywood Bowl is one of my favorite venues. Excellent show!

This was the worst show I've ever been to. It was almost as though it was put on by "The Onion." Who was it in the Hollywood Bowl organization who didn't tell Stewart that this wasn't a showcase for his three kids, all of whom lacked talent? If you're not good enough to get on "The Voice" then you're certainly not good enough to grace the stage of the Hollywood Bowl. Billy Ray Cyrus as a "special guest" was laughable. With such a vast talent pool available in L.A., that was the best he could do? Jeez, I would have been a better choice! Sure, I can't sing, but I clean up well, and Billy Ray couldn't sing either, and looked like he'd just come in from a camping trip. Whoever gave this show the green light needs to be fired.

I've been to a lot of these Beatle posers concerts and Dave did not do anything I could boast about. I felt the songs were not played with the details of the originals, instrument wise, tonal wise or vocally. Having Dave's kids sing the songs was a low budget move. Close enough I guess is good enough for Dave. Well that does not fly in my book. I think he chose a poor song for the encore. Come on, All you need is love? That song is not a finally. It was one of the dullest and boarding Beatles songs ever!

The show was terrible. It was odd that there were so many kids on stage paying tribute to the Beatles 50th at the Hollywood Bowl, when it was clear that they were not yet up to that level in their musical skills. While I am sure their intentions were pure, the entire show was subpar; missed lyrics and notes, screaming into the microphone, off key squeaking, zero commanding of the audience during a sing-a-long. I have never seen a worse show at the Hollywood Bowl. In fact, I had given tickets to the show for Saturday night to my parents and their friends, and in lieu of the show on Friday, they opted to go out to dinner instead of the concert. One woman in their party has never been to the Hollywood Bowl and she didn't want her first time there to be for a bad show. I can't say that I wouldn't have done the same thing. It was a difficult show to follow. There were too many pauses and breaks that made it difficult to even escape into the music. I do not understand why Dave Stewart thought it was a wise decision to include his inexperienced children for a show that was supposed to highlight a magical momentous performance from a legendary band. That wasn't fair to anyone. I expected more from the Hollywood Bowl.

One of the worst performances I've ever seen. Something I would expect at the Iowa State Fair not at the Hollywood Bowl. An insult that David Stewart featured his own semi-talented children instead of drawing on the rich talent right here in the entertainment capital of the world.

It had such potential but sadly lacked on all fronts! The Hollywood Bowl is such a gorgeous venue and for that the night gets it's one star! Otherwise Dave Stewart - well what a disappointment ... He had some of the greatest material to work with and did it no justice at all with his true family affair. His son was lead vocals on nearly the entire first half set and he was sadly awful. I have heard better at local pubs and battle of the bands... In fact my husband could really have done a stronger job and he's a tv editor not a professional singer! Billy Ray... I have no words. It was appalling! The special guests were ok in places but just as it started to pick up the next song would be fronted by one of Dave's kids again and the lackluster show returned! This promised so much and was sadly a total waste of money - of which I spent a lot as I bought my parents from the uk to experience this!!!

I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the talent for this Beatle's Tribute. A cpl of the female singers were good artists but the male singing talent was terrible. The program was very disappointing. My sisters and I saw The Beatles at the Bowl I thought it would be a wonderful way to reminisce that incredible event. Instead it left us wondering why the people were selected to sing The Beatles magnificent music. They left a lot to be desired, Dave Stewart s 14 year old daughter sang a song very inappropriate for her age\u2026 Don t Let Me Down \u2026.my sister and I looked at each other and said really! One of the singers said, this song changed my life very unconvincingly. Dave Stewart did not live up to be the ringmaster \u2026..he was just going through the motion in introducing performer after performer that did not meet the standards of people that truly love The Beatles and their songs. The Bowl billed the program as Beatlemania returns to the Bowl with a re-creation of that iconic performance and Ringmaster Dave Stewart and a fantastic lineup of talented special guests: I never heard of the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Michelle Branch , or superstar Vanessa Amorosi, Allen Stone, Liv Warfield and Mary Lambert. Even Martina McBride sang the songs as if it was a small county concert, I guess she forgot that she was at the World Famous Hollywood Bowl. Billy Ray Cyrus did his best, Bob Eubanks, who brought the Fab Four to the Bowl, did not do justice to reminiscing about the incredible atmosphere of Beatlemania and the electricity that charged the Bowl 50 years ago. Another disappointment was the lack of the very few vintage clips in celebration of the Fab Four s L.A. invasion.

I probably never would have bought tickets for this event if I had known that the concert would feature Dave Stewart's son singing 4 songs!!! Billy Ray Cyrus - what a poor job he did. Where do I begin... I would have thought an event as momentous as this would have attracted more star power. Even big-named oldies groups doing Beatles covers would have been better than the "younger generation" who performed at the Hollywood Bowl last weekend (didn't even know all the words to some Beatles classics). While Dave Stewart's children are talented, it felt a bit more like the Dave Stewart Family Hour, or perhaps a tribute to the Stewart family, than anything to honor the Fab Four. I love Michelle Branch and felt badly when she messed up. She handled the flub as well as could be expected, but it was a flub, nonetheless. Martina McBride was fabulous! Last year, I attended a similar tribute to Marvin Gaye, and even though I previously had not been a huge MG fan, it was an awesome concert that highlighted a level of talent befitting someone of his stature. Not so much with the Beatles tribute.

For the most part, the concert was entertaining and the way the Bowl shell was lit up with various Beatle photos was great. However, WHY Billy Ray Cyrus was part of the line up is baffling to me (for that matter, so was Martina Mc Bride-aren't they both country western singers?). Thankfully when Billy Ray sang "Hey Jude", the entire audience sang along so he was pretty much drowned out.

The music and line up was awesome, Dave Stewart is so low key though, he couldn't fire up the crowd if his life depends on it. Both his kids, the 14 year girl and Jango (boy) were excellent. The surprise of the night was Billy Ray Cyrus, never been a fan of his but all that changed, he was really good and it was Billy who fired up the crowd with his rendition of Hey Jude. Martina McBride moved the crowd with Let it be. Vanessa Amorosi was really good and Liv Warfield was amazing. My only disappointment of the night came from Michelle Branch, whom I have idolized for so many years. She couldn't start Eleanor Rigby on the right note and had to re-started, but was amazing once she got it down. Michelle is an extremely talented artist but how can you not prepare for an event like this? The highlight of the night however was to see Bob Eubanks and Dave Hull (The Hullabalooer) on stage, these men were around when the original event took place and to see them on stage, sharing their experience and stories, that was really amazing.

Music was good but the "rotating" lead singers were marginal at best! Some were off key, some forgot the words and with Eleanor Rigby the lead swinger forgot both the melody and words. She had to stop and start over. One of the poorest executed concerts that we've been to. Certainly the worse Beatles tribute we have ever attended.

The event was not at all what was expected.... if the announcement that "this would not be a Beatles tribute band" had been made on the advertisement instead of at the event, a lot of money and time could have been saved..... The first half of the show was just plain sad... No harmony at all. The second half of the show was better, but not enough to overcome the disappointment of the first half. There were a few bright spots, including a remarkable 14 year old girl vocalist and a surprisingly authentic, and moving, "Hey Jude" done by Billy Ray Cyrus. But overall the show was a disappointment and not worth the time nor the money spent to attend. I was there 50 years ago, and this show left me feeling empty.

Dave Stewart put together a wonderful line-up of talented people who gave their own interpretation of all the songs we know and love, but did it in a way that was true to the music -- excellent! I was excited to see this, thought it would be a great night out, but boy I was wrong. Dave Stewart and guests - more like my Dad is Dave Stewart, I can't really sing, but as it's my dad I can get on stage at the Hollywood Bowl. Django - honestly I thought I was watching an audition for American Idol. At least his daughter was able to sing and hit the notes. Liv Warfield at least had a voice on her - "Come Together" - awesome. But honestly Cyrus? What was Stewart thinking? It was more about his family on stage vs a tribute to the Beatles. I would have thought the talent/guests would have been AMAZING - i'm sure there had to have been people who would have loved to have performed - but obviously Stewart doesn't have the contacts he obviously told the organizers he had. Very very very disappointed. The OC Register says it best - "A Lackluster tribute to the Beatles"

The first 30 minutes we thought might be a joke. The performers had no enthusiam. No one was introduced and they walk on and off the stage like they were annoyed. I've seen many Beatle tribute shows and this was by far the worst ever. You almost try so hard to like it just because it's "The Beatles". But people of all ages in the audience were disappointed. The Beatles 50th Anniversary at the Hollywood Bowl was very disappointing. The performance was very flat. Dave Stewart was a huge let-down. The man has virtually no stage presence and lacked energy. One of John Lennon's kids, Julian or Sean, would have been a much better choice for "ringmaster." Or even Jeff Lynne would have been nice. That would have actually been very cool. The band was made up largely of Dave Stewart's own kids who have very little talent. A tribute band, at least for the first half, would have been much better. Django Stewart's singing was also flat (both in tone and in energy) and boring. Billy Ray Cyrus brought some energy to the stage, coming on to sing the last two songs of the first half. However, Billy Ray really butchered "Hey Jude" in the second half. It was awful. He was a poor choice for this particular song. Nevertheless, all the iPhone lights came out for this song. After all, it is "Hey Jude." The second half of the show was much better than the first half with some nice work by Liv Warfield on "Come Together" and Mary Lambert's version of "Blackbird" was nice. Overall, it was not a very honoring night for the Beatles. HUGE disappointment. It would have been very cool to have Paul and Ringo show up, but alas, the evening wasn't planned far enough in advance to pull that off. That being said, we still had a good time.

Took my wife for what I thought would be a rekindle of what happenned 50 years ago and the good memories of that event, however, got the worst, amaturist and off-key kareoke performance by Stewart and his talentless kids. The bowl and ticketmaster should refund the outragous amounts paid for a worthless performance by the Stewarts ...So much talent in Los Angeles and we were sold a bill of worthless goods under the guise of a tribute which was largely an insult to the Beatles, and all of their followers that sold out the bowl for three nights to part-take on the festivities only to be brutally disappointed by these group of charlatans. We stayed throughtout the whole concert hoping for things to bet better to no avail. act after act was worse with the only bright moments of Liv and Vanessa interpretations. I was looking forward to attending this event at the Hollywood Bowl and expected to see a high caliber Beatles tribute band playing the songs that the Beatles sang at the Bowl 50 years ago. Instead what I got was a mediocre evening which seemed to be nothing more than an opportunity for Dave Stewart to showcase his three children, none of whom is particularly talented at this stage in their young careers. There were other guest performers, some of whom were OK, but Billy Ray Cyrus singing "Hey Jude"?? The evening was a huge disappointment and for the first time I felt totally "ripped off" by the Hollywood Bowl. This could have been a great evening with the right performers. I think the Hollywood Bowl owes everyone who attended this an apology and an offer for a free replacement concert.

Oh boy, how i ended up paying for such a low quality Beatles tribute band as the one performing at the Bowl. I left half way through the mis-event (I can't even call it a concert). That band would be more suitable for a free County Fair thing, even though I wouldn't take a seat to watch something of such low energy, low performance, and quality. Those guys lag vocal synch, harmony, creativity, and even practice. The Ringo-Starr-wanna-be thought he could get some kudos for some contact he stated he had with one of the Beatles many years ago, but not even that. How many around me were equally disappointed, so they drank. I don't, so I had to leave. I thought that, at least the Bowl would show a lot of the original film of the Beatles coming to the Bowl 50 years ago, but all it was shown was the audience back then, screaming. Where were the Beatles. If they want to get a tribute band to honor the Beatles, then get a good one, not those crappy guys on the stage, pretending to be big shots. I am now traumatized with the quality of the unknown names performing at the Bowl. I don't think the Bowl will get my hard-working money for such a low-quality "event" such as that. I had to pay to learn my lesson. : (

Old enough to have seen the Beatles when all four were alive, I had expectations of rampant nostalgia for Saturday night's 50th Beatles Anniversary. I know from having seen "Jersey Boys" that contemporary artists CAN reach the standard set by the originals. Saturday night, the singing wasn't up to McCartney, the guitar playing wasn't up to Harrison (no electric 12-string AT ALL for "Hard Day's Night"!), the drumming wasn't up to Ringo, and no one had the Bowl-Embracing presence of Lennon. I paid to have Beatles' music dumbed down for me? I was a chump.

Billy tried to rile the audience and so did the young lady with the red hair...I think her name was Vanessa. All the performers were very talented I admit but who were they? No introductions It was just a boring show and did not leave me wanting more..

Was very disappointed that as a tribute to the Beatles 50th, there were hardly any pictures of the Fab Four thru out the concert. We expected to see vintage footage of their concert at the Bowl in '64 -- other video clips of the band, some interviews of them talking about their first visit to the Bowl and LA, etc -- but -- there was NADA -- a few pics from Sgt Pepper's album cover -- big deal.......and NO message or comment from Ringo ?? At least Paul was decent enuff to convey a msg to the fans. Dave Stewart and his group of "special guests" -- including 3 of his children -- were more like Dave Stewart's Amateur Family hour -- singing off key, missing words to the songs, obvious lack of rehearsal. Didn't seem like it was really thot out that much......many fans along with myself have requested refunds!

Could have done a much better job introducing the talent and celebrating the songs from the original show. The production just seemed "kluncky". We enjoyed Martina and especially Kya. Everyone else fell short of our expectations. Missed a great opportunity to celebrate one of the most iconic bands in history.

I had really high hopes for this event but it just fell flat. Seemed more like a gathering of Dave Stewart family and friends than a tribute by professionals Very disappointing! Did enjoy the Hollywood Bowl though.

Someone should tell Billy Ray Cyrus to stop singing. Everyone in our seating area was not happy with his performance. He was off key on every song. Some of the female singers were pretty good. Dave Stewart should have left his son out of the show. He was terrible! The second act was better then the first, but in all, the show was not good. I expected much more for such a great anniversary event.

The show was incredibly disappointing. No one in that family can sing and even the guest singers were so-so. I would have thought the Hollywood Bowl could have obtained better talent, even cover bands would have worked.

Extremely disappointed in this concert. Singing by Dave Stewart & "kids" was terrible, sound system was lacking, and camera techs did a poor job of getting & keeping the shots on the screens. In fact, one screen kept blacking out. If it weren't for Martina McBride (love her BTW), and Alan Stone, this concert would have been a complete waste. Dave Stewart was no "Ringmaster" and could barely articulate a sentence. This was no tribute to the Beatles 50th Anniversary but rather a disgrace. Hollywood Bowl staffers should be ashamed & someone needs to be fired!

Was frankly disappointed in the Beatles 50th tribute at the Bowl. Dave Stewart may be a very good musician, but he was not a very energetic or exciting "ringmaster". Additionally, his young adult children seemed to be good musicians also but I was not expecting to have paid to hear the "family Von Stewart singers", especially as lead vocalist on many of the tribute songs. All in all an evening of Beatles music is always enjoyable but IMHO this event was not up to the usual Hollywood Bowl program standards.

This is the first time I've left the Hollywood Bowl unhappy with an event. But we all know and love The Beatles' music, and most of the performers couldn't hold a candle to the real deal. While this is to be expected to some degree, most of the performances fell flat and it felt more like karaoke than a concert. Sigh.

Seems like not organized well Can't say it was a tribute to the Beatles. My expectation was too high?

It was a Beatles tribute show with various artists performing their own rendition of original Beatles songs. The renditions were horrible. I would have enjoyed a Beatles "look alike and sound alike" band far better. I like Billy Ray Cyrus, but not singing "Hey Jude" . This show was a major disappointment.

Oh no, why oh why did you do this to the fans? Someone should have caught this and put a stop to it much earlier.

This was insulting to the Beatles. Why couldn't Dave Stewart get any known performers except two country western stars. What do they have to do with the Beatles. And having his three kids perform--give me a break. The 14 year old daughter has potential. Vanessa Amorosi from Australia was excellent, but again--who is she. All were virtually unknowns. Sad way to commenorate a very special event.

Dave Stewart's band was a bad amature hour band that needed more time in the garage before going public. My wife and I go to free summer concerts, free city park concerts and free college student concerts... we expected better at a venue like the Hollywood Bowl... especially at $53 per ticket... but it was not. Dave Stewert's children and friends could not hold a note and that is very embarrassing at $53 per seat... a very disappointing show! An older married couple that was seated next to us was also very unhappy and left about 15 minutes after the intermission. A large group of friends seated behind us was laughing cynically when Dave Stewart's son, daughter & friends could not hold a note... this was annoying and bad. I was waiting for the audience to start booing but that did not happen on our night (Friday night the 22nd). We were very unhappy.

Not very good. First part with Bob Eubanks was interesting but not good song selection and performers only did a fair job.

I want to first start off by saying that the Hollywood Bowl is a WONDERFUL place to see a concert and every time I've gone it's been spectacular. The one star rating is only for the event The Beatles 50th at the Bowl" which was a major disappointment. The ringleader Dave Stewart took it upon himself to showcase his offspring (2 sons and a daughter) that were mediocre at best singers and not professional as well as including some special guest that were good but not good enough to make up for the kids lack of talent. Come on guys this is suppose to be a major anniversary for THE BEATLES. The audience would have been much happier with a cover band that looked and sounded like The Beatles as well as top notch professional singers (special guest). It also would have been great to get one if not both remaining Beatles to lead the show. Now that would be an AMAZING event at the bowl. I want my money back.

Although we all had a great time because of the Beatles' music alone (as well as the atmosphere), I feel that the show could have used more 'star power.' I enjoyed the performers who were not well known (as well as Martina McBride), however Billy Ray Cyrus did not sound good at all. I think that there should have been at least one more well known performer. Nevertheless, it's hard not to enjoy Beatles' music under any circumstances.

Why was a show that could have been amazing so amazingly awful!? I expected wonderful music and a wonderful lineup, not country singers and Dave Stewart's family! This event was supposed to honor the best band ever? Seriously? All Stewart did was promote his children and fill in the gaps with some lame acts. The music itself was pretty good, but the vocals, the vocals were awful! Who thinks of Billy Ray Cyrus when they think of The Beatles? We would've walked out after the first three songs, but remembered we were stuck in stacked parking lot for $17. Completely disappointed.

This was the worst concert I've ever been to. It was like the tryouts for American Idol only worse. Vanessa and Martina and the guy with the hat and long hair were the only decent singers. Dave Stewart should be ashamed of himself. I did like the visuals. I'm glad I only paid $17 for my ticket. I did like the new benches and astroturf in section W2.

The best part of the evening was when Paul Eubanks came out and spoke. Some of the footage was good and could have used more. I liked it, a couple of the vocalists just weren't that good (Django). It was like going to a sing-a-long. Needed a campfire - or a cheesy cruise ship. The Beatles music is never bad, but this just wasn't that good.

1st off, they sounded nothing like the Beatles, and the singers were great, but we didn't go to them, we went there to hear Beatles songs. Not sung by woman, or Billy Ray. I rated your show for the dollar value a 2. A lot of other patrons felt the same as I did!!!

Seriously? Dave Stewert couldn't find anyone other then his kids and Billy Ray Cyrus to honor what is for many a historic occasion? Martina McBride and Mary Lambert were fine but only a couple of songs? This was three nights of sold out shows to honor the Beatles first appearance here 50 years ago. A 50th anniversary only happens once. Where did the money go? We cannot go back and fix this. Billy Ray Cyrus doing Hey Jude? The bowl was nice, the seats were good, the weather great. And if this had been advertised as the Dave Stewert Family sings the hits of the Beatles and done any other year and the show was free then maybe we would not care that much.
