I've probably seen Susan 30 times over the years and so am obviously a big fan. But I continue to go back because she delivers the full entertainment experience each and every time I see her. Not only is Susan a phenomenally gifted musician and one of the best lyricists in the business, but she's just plane funny! She could stand up there and do comedy for 2 hours and not sing one of her great songs and I would still walk away happy. She is able to take whatever is happening in the world, set it to humor and weave it into her show. If you've never had a chance to catch Susan playing, do it soon. You will not be dissappointed.

Susan is a most amazing singer/song writer. Her ability to switch seemlessley from country, to blues, to folk , then back again was beautiful. We love the lyrics and the messages in the songs. My wife was raised in Iowa, home of the nicest people, and she and I really connected with the farm based songs , especially the line about "all four legs and did not smell like hogs"!!!! We loved the most topical ones as well! After the show when she signed autographs, when it was our turn, she continued to connect on a personal level. She seems to always be in the moment and very genuine unlike other performers we have seen.

Admittedly I am a fan of Susan Werner, but this was a very enjoyable show. At the end, she could have started all over and I would have sat through it again. She was backed up by two great musicians. Susan Werner has such a great rapport with her audience. It feels like a private concert for a few friends. While this show was subtitled the Hayseed Project, her latest album, the song selections spanned a wide range of her recordings. Overall, a wonderful evening of music.

Susan Werner's repertoire ranges from folk to caberet, all of it with a personal stamp. Her melodies invoke the best of the American musical tradition, while her lyrics show a distinct Midwest wit and wisdom. Her latest tour showcases her newest album, "Hayseed", which celebrates the American farm family. The product of one of these families herself, Ms. Werner evokes hopes and fears, joys and regrets, and ultimately the love of this slowly vanishing community and lifestyle. This reviewer has seen Ms. Werner perform four times over five years. Each show was different on the surface - sometimes solo, sometimes with a group, each time highlighting the most recent material. But every show contained unifying similarities intended to keep the audience interested and leave it satisfied. She is uncommonly approachable both during her performances and after. She engages her audience in conversation. Her lyrics are variously droll and poignant. As a musician she is an accomplished pianist, guitarist and singer, and her skills have shown obvious development each time I have heard her. She seems to learn something from the musicians with whom she plays, then incorporates those new techniques in her own performances. While this is something the first time listener might not notice, someone considering seeing Ms. Werner for the first time can be assured that she will have never sounded better.

It was a truly enjoyable performance. We have attended many Susan Werner shows over the last 20 years. The variety of genres is one element that makes us keep coming back. We attended a Mary Chapin Carpenter concert the next evening and yet Susan Werner songs were going around in my head the next day:) Susan is a true talent!

Susan Werner is the whole package. Her songwriting is witty, clever and can be poignant. Her accompaniment is driving and interesting. Her presentation is theatrical and every word can be heard. Her stage persona is endearing.

Susan Werner's songs are smart, funny, beautiful stories. Her latest album about farming and Iowa has roots that tug at the heart strings and yet lets us laugh at ourselves. You know she grew up in Iowa because her songs paint such a clear picture celebrating the quirks and depths of family and land. This concert was entertainment at its best.

Susan Werner's concert was a great mix of good music and humor with a little consciousness raising thrown in. Her songs are sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, but always worth listening to. The backup musicians (string bass and steel guitar/mandolin) were also fantastic even though this was the first time they'd played together. Enjoyed every minute of the concert!

One of he best and most underrated performers of our time! Seeing her do an acoustic set was one of the most sastisfying musical nights I have ever had. She had a full compliment of a band of super talented players and the songs were executed inthe most vibrant and skilled way. Definitely a treat to be cherished.I have to say that Susan Werner is absolutely one of the best songwriters out there today!

In fine form as always, Susan Werner delighted us all with her performance, voice, wit, and unending charm. She is the best songwriter we have, bar none, but just as importantly she knows how to truly deliver every song in live performance. Now looking forward to After All Of This, a tribute show to her and her music this Thursday night at Davenport's Piano Bar and Cabaret -- Susan had the cast up and performing with her at the Auditorium, and hearing her songs done in 4 part harmony with a larger ensemble just raised goosebumps! Susan will be there for the Thursday night show as well, so there's no missing it for me!

From John Gorka's opening lines "I'm from New Jersey," complete with Boss-style raised right arm, through Susan Werner's verbal and piano pyrotechnics, this evening at the Avalon was wonderfully entertaining at every moment. The shy boy and the too-poised girl are perfect foils for one another, and their material is rich, evocative and insightful.

A wonderful show! Susan has really grown in her music. She's awesome. And the addition of Julia, the cellist, was amazing. Susan had a wonderful mix of her songs, and was having fun playing to/with an appreciative audience. I'm looking forward to her next performance.
