Laurel Canyon Ramblers

Great song selection, groups were seamlessly transferred between songs without delays, and the sold out crowd was very enthusiastic.The singers and musicians were great.

Over the years I have been a practicing Jazz/Classical/Folk Rock musician (guitar family instruments & bass). I tagged along with neighbors to the Laurel Canyon production, mainly because of my life-long veneration of the Byrds and Joni Mitchell. I was expecting an evening relying (perhaps to a significant degree) on sentimentality, something a bit cheesy and not necessarily evocative of the orignial music. What I got instead was an unexpectedly amazing level of musicianship and range among the players, who had an essential understanding of this truly original catalogue. Turns out the evening was cheese-free (except where appropriate). You nailed it. I have no significant criticism, except to say that when covering the Byrds, the Rickenbacher needs to be turned the hell up, since that sound was the immediately identifiable feature of the Byrds (at least initially). Special kudos to the pedal steel player, and the keyboard guy, both of whom especially floored me.

Do not miss this show packed with memorable songs which will transport you to the 60 s. We loved it! Knew all songs except for two. Great talent as well. Sit where you have a good view of the piano/keyboard!

I can't say enough about this wonderful show. The amazing amount of local talent assembled by Ronnie Newmyer is nothing short of astonishing. The musicians are all high caliber and the singers are world class. The show takes you back to a era when music had heart and meaning and moved you. I highly recommend this show to anyone who remembers the "golden age". The intimate Birchmere is the perfect venue for a show like this. You feel like a part of the band. The staff is fabulous and the food was excellent. I can't wait to see my next Newmyer Flyer show at the world famous Birchmere.
