This is the second time I've seen BJM, both times at the Fillmore and this band simple rocks. If you like that wall of sound psychedelic sound these guys are the masters.

The show was unforgettable to say the least. Anton rocked it, really soaked up the positive energy from the sold out crowd. No drama, the band has come a long way and it showed! TEAM WORK! Watch "Dig!" the documentary, then see a show. You won't be disappointed.

BJM was sort of disappointing. I should have been prepared for something like this, but nevertheless I expected more. They played at the Filmore in San Francisco. The show sold out. Lots of other people were really into it, and yet the band refused to play an encore! This was probably the first time I have ever seen a band not play an encore....quite disappointing, indeed. The crowd felt even more deflated (I never really got that pumped). Also, they didn't really play much of their new stuff. I wish I had known that the show was going to be semi-lame; I wouldn't have spent money on it.

Musically they were very tight and produced a cohesive sound that rocked from one song in to the next. They all seemed a little "too cool for school" with their expressionless faces.....with the exception of Joel who always looks like he's at his own party. NO pandering to the crowd with excess verbiage, they let the music speak for itself and it was speaking load and clear!! Anton's profile pose at the edge of the stage is well thought out because when he finally turned to the crowd he made quite an impression!! Anton soft and mummbly vocals are his trademark. and it works with the rousing sound the band puts out collectively. Anton kept the band playing long after the others had seeming called it a nIght ....and you just gotta love him for that!!

Bill Graham must have been looking down from on high, smiling on this one. BJM brought every ounce of energy, talent and timing to this Solstice Concert in S.F. (their home turf). I believe this may have been the longest set Anton, Joel, et al, have every played (well over 2 hours). The set was well paced & chosen, with a great balance of peppy-pop danceable & mesmerizing psychedelic meanderings. One of the best concerts ever!

Awesome show and venue! I've been a fan of BJM for a long time and this is the first time I've been able to see them live. I would definitely see them again!

Great band. 8 members and very tight music was awesome. If you want a better feel for the band rent the documentary DiG! they are a one of a kind band and totally worth seeing.

Loved it! Always a great show. I guess if there was one thing that I'd ask them to change it is how they end the show.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre performed for 2 solid hours delivering song after recognizable song to a crowd whose enthusiasm could not be matched. The performance, however, really began about an hour prior, for anyone who cared to notice. Leader of the BJM, Anton Newcombe, took over the musical selection at the TLA and played DJ while seated behind the sound board. His selections, while quite disparate from the neo-psychedelia he would perform during the following 2 hours, were a perfect Euro-industrial techno preamble, sending core vibrating beats through the venue's formidable sound system. The BJM performed over 20 songs, relying heavily on material from their early records such as Methodrone, Take it from the Man, Give it Back, Satanic Majesties Second Request, Thank God for Mental Illness, and Strung Out In Heaven. They were, guilty although, of one glaring omission. They played not one song from their 2 most recent studio records, My Bloody Underground, and Who Killed Sgt. Pepper. This omission inspired more than a few catcalls from audience members who appreciate the new musical tangent Newcombe is exploring, at least in the studio. And while The Brian Jonestown Massacre does not do encores, They left this raucous crowd clamoring for more during a nearly 12 minute fade out featuring Newcombe drowning out the cheers for more, kneeling before his amp, guitar in hand, tweeking knobs, and creating a dramatic departure with a relentless, mind numbing, sonic maelstom.

Everything rocked, except that they don't do an encore. Get off your high wierdo horse and come rock out for two more songs. Other than that, pretty sweet.

I love this band. I love seeing them complete and fully functional. Matt Hollywood rocked the center of the stage and Joel entertained with the tambourine while Anton (the psychic earthworm) got to share his genius with an appreciative and polite crowd. The whole ensemble worked together like a fabulous sound machine. Thanks for an unforgettable night!!

Great band, great music, but the performance was disappointing. The setlist was boring, the band hardly engaged with the audience, and the levels were off--vocals/lead guitar were overpowered by the other instruments. Also, that mess at the end (putting a mic in front of an amp and jiggling the controls for 10 minutes) did not make up for the lack of an encore. I'm giving it 3 stars because it wasn't a bad show by normal standards. I just had higher expectations for the BJM.

i LOVED the show. The band was beyond amazing. they picked great songs to play and they just did an AMAZING job. easily one of the best shows i have ever seen. I hope to see them every time they come around from now on! I totally recommend it to anyone who loves great music played by extremely talented people. (i have introduced this band to a lot of my friends and all of them have loved the sound, even though only one had ever heard of the band.) The Music Hall of Williamsburg is a great place too. I talked to a number of staff members and each one was helpful and friendly. The music hall is located in a great area with plenty of good restaurants nearby as well.

After the sound guy had already sucked the life out of the crowd with a 45 minute bass-only exhibition that literally made my teeth vibrate the show finally started. For some reason there were, right up in front, at least 10 kids that couldn't be older than 13-14 and I began to wonder if I was even in the right place. Finally BJM came out but it only got worse. I couldn't hear the vocals for all but maybe 2 songs, Anton looked like he was on the verge of collapsing and he mumbled every verse adding to the effect of the low levels. Everyone was out of sync, it sounded like 5 different songs at once, the entire band looked bored. Random jamming went on for huge stretches of time, was poorly sound mixed and often the feedback overpowered everything else for extended periods. I figured they couldn't go on for very long like that but it just kept going, eventually after yet another song that was hard to even identify I left, before they even took their break. I only stayed so long because I thought the people with me wanted to, turned out they were staying for ME. Felt good to get out of there, hopefully the next show in my lineup makes up for this letdown.

Their June 6 Webster Hall concert was great. The band was very tight. One strange note, they didn't play anything from their Feb 2010 album.

These guys are in top form! Don't miss this show. Joel and his tambourine are worth the price of admission alone :)

This was the third time I've seen the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the show was eerily similar to the previous two times. That's not a bad thing by any means, becuse I think they always do a great job of recreating their sound in live performances. Plus, it's always cool to see all those guitars up on stage. I think they had five guitars playing at once, and the wall of sound they create is great. This is a great stoner band and the Paradise is always a cool venue to see a show.

Great show, great set. They played around 2 hours straight through. No breaks, no talking to the crowd. Just song after song. Disappointed there wasnt an encore, but the set was long and they didnt take any breaks, so I guess it levels out. First time I saw them with Matt Hollywood back in the band and they played Cabin Fever, which is a fav of mine. Great time

The performance more than exceeded my expectations. They played music that I think the fans wanted to hear. They have newer material, which isn't as popular, but played, exceptionally well may I add, music that the fan base wanted to hear. They are much better than the venue can hold, but due to their desires, and possible political contention, have been resorted to not as much success, probably by choice, as their movie "dig" appears to portray. So for such a talented group with excellent music, it's more than a treat for fans to be able to see them in a little venue. Meaning in my opinion, they are much better than a good number of bands hosting large venues, but they don't want the attention, so the fans, who are fortunate enough to attend a show, benefit from it.

The music of The Brian Jonestown Massacre is genius. This is an amazing band that must be seen. If you are in love with The Brian Jonestown Massacre like myself, then you would drive over 4 hours round-trip to see them too. I am happy to report that it was well worth the drive. Newcombe and Hollywood were all there and thank god for Joel! If you have seen the documentary DIG! then you might expect to see some kind of inter-band tiff break out, but I am happy to report that the band stayed focused on the music and played hit after hit with almost no conversation in between. They have so many songs to pick from that there was never a dull moment and i couldn't stop smiling the whole time. The band has incredible stage presence and if you have seen DIG! but have never witnessed the wild-genius in person, Anton is even more captivating in real life. So, if you enjoy the psychedelic music of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and you think tambourine-man Joel is The Man then you have to get to a show because who knows?! This could be a once in a lifetime event!!! I sure hope not though. I would love to see them in concert again sometime - it is an excellent and highly recommended experience - because that is what it is... p.s. buy the new album "who killed sgt. pepper?" because it's wicked.
