Randy Travis

As one of the pivotal performers in the neotraditional country movement, Randy Travis has been one of the groundbreaking singer/songwriters of his generation, bringing country music back to its grassroots heritage and veering it away from the more-commercialized, pop-influenced “Nashville sound” of the late 1960s and 1970s. His traditional light-baritone voice and straight-from-the-heart style harkens back to the classic country of decades ago, but with a decidedly contemporary sound. Ticket holders enthuse over the pure-country vibe of his concerts, which feature a mix of fan favorites, evergreen classics and new original works. In performance, Travis has a sincere, low-key style that invites comparisons to legendary performers such as Hank Williams.

I was hesitant about going to this event because Randy hasn't been in the headlines like he once was. It was a very memorable evening. Small venue, nice background. Randy still can draw a crowd and keep the attention.

I bought these for my wife because she really loves Randy. We had close tickets, and she said every minute was worth the money we paid. We wish he could have gone longer, or maybe been available for autographs, but the song list was great and we just had a great time at the performance.

This was a great concert!! Randy sang about 25 to 28 songs, all of them were top notch. He sang some of the oldies, Three Wooden Crosses, I Told You So, ect. And a lot of new ones. My Favorites were all of the Christian songs, he had quite a few of them. It was about 2 hours, so it wasn't too long. At the end he had a big ending, won't give anything away, but it was a great song for 4th.The band was great, as always. AWSOME is the word that I use to describe my last Friday night.

I was very impressed with Randy Travis' performance on 7/5/09. He stood on stage and performed for two straight hours in blistering heat, wearing a sports coat! He sang a perfect mix of his classic hits and his new stuff coming out. Overall I was very pleased.

Randy started with Better Class of Losers and hit every note. He was awesome and his band was on cue. It was great to see such a tight-knit band and Randy's voice is classic country. He played Diggin Up Bones, Three Wooden Crosses, Forever and Ever, and I Told You So. He mixed some of his new material with older classic country. It was a great event and at great concert location...Sunken Gardens Theater in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Travis appeared to be at home and we all felt comfortable with his demeanor. It was worth the wait.

Having one of the most distinct voices in country music, Randy Travis has long been a favorite of mine. I had never seen him in concert until he performed at the Sunken Gardens Amphitheater in San Antonio, TX on July 3. I was not disappointed. The show he put on was awesome! He sang a wide cross section of the hit songs which first brought him to the forefront of country music in the 1980s.

Randy Travis is still the country singer to beat. His show mixed his old hits with new songs and was just amazing. He was entertaining, funny and charming. Fans of all ages will enjoy this show. There was not another place nor time I would have rather been than to see him live in concert. I knew the words to all his hits and sang aloud as much as I could, as did everyone else in my party ! It was like being somewhere having an awesome time with a long lost friend. I am so extremely happy that Randy is back !

Outstanding concert. He was playing within 10 minutes or so of the start time, played most of his best old songs, and interacted well with the audience. Even the high 90's temp wasn't so bad with the breezes.

The whole event was way more than I expected. The crowd was well maintained. I had seats in general admission. It was first come first serve. My daughter and I got there early and got great seats with a fan right on us. We could see the stage really well which I think you could from any seat. The food and drinks were reasonably priced and bathroom facilities were ample. The security was plenty. Someone was smoking pot but the police and drug dogs took care of it.

This was a wonderful concert in a unique venue that San Antonio offers. I would love for San Antonio to offer many more concerts at the Sunken Gardens Theatre. Mr. Travis was witty, and very personable. He sang as beautifully as ever. He forgot some words a few times, but with his smile, it didn't matter! One of the nicest things I noticed was that the music did not drown out his voice. Overall, it was a great concert.

Randy Travis could have played all night long and I would not have left my seat. His music is the best! I loved his performance and only wish he had stayed longer. Love him and his music. Can't wait to see him again. I would recommend that you see him perform. I looked forward to this show for months. I don't recommend the concession stands/people. Very disorganized. They would not have been able to handle a larger crowd. Ran out of tickets. Long lines for tickets. Even though there were 2 people in the booth, only 1 was selling tickets. Drinks were warm. They gave you cups with ice using the same ice that they were sticking their hands into. Hire a new vendor!

Went t the show last night. It had been 20 years since I have since Randy Travis. He performs as well now as at the show in S. Korea in 89. Gosh, Was hoping to hear "Digging up Jones" again. LOL Wonderful. My only issue is that it is going to get hotter and if it were later in July or in August, we would have been cooking out there at the Sunken Gardens. We would have bought the table seating if it hadnt been for the fees racking it up to 200.00

Well organized with a stellar line-up of stars! Moved along with no waste of time. I just wish they hadn't saved the majority of the more famous entertainers until near the end of the show. Don' get me wrong the new younger talent was excellent as well. Plenty of "jumbo-trons" to get different views of the stage. Reception and clarity on these screens was excellent as well. The mayor and the governor were a nice touch to the tribute and "Randy Travis Day" will make it memorable. Super idea to have Randy's band as back up.

excellent show. we need more shows like it with future tributes to Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Todays music is not country .. that I grew up on 70s and mostly 80s. the notes are not there and really unpleasing to my ears. we have good musicians but the combination of notes are too choppy. keep theses shows coming and I will attend concerts. for the most part we have also lost classic rock as well. We need big music event like June Jam Fort Payne with Alabama with all the 80s musicians attending b4 they kick the bucket.hope that marketing and musicians have strong input with this review.

Randy Travis was absolutely amazing to see in concert! His voice is as amazing as ever. He sang for about 2 hours with no intermission which was very nice. He's funny and very entertaining. One lucky person in the audience won 2 front row tickets and a signed guitar. I don't listen to much country music now, but I grew up listening to Randy Travis, George Strait, Reba, etc., so I was so exited to have the opportunity to see Randy Travis in concert, signing the songs I loved so much growing up. Within about 5 seconds of his first song, I was thrilled to hear that voice again. Randy Travis did not disappoint! Awesome!!! My favorite moment was when he announced that he had just a couple more songs left and a lifelong family friend whom we brought with us as a birthday gift to her, yelled for Randy to please sing "Promises" and he actually did! They turned off all the lights around his band and he sang on his own, just him and his guitar. It was unforgettable to watch my friend get so emotional and the rest of the crowd seemed to love this more than any other song.

what makes randy travis as good today as yesterday is that he involves his audience and the indian ranch in webster mass , is great because it's laid back comfortable and most of the people do not know what being a snob is . An unforgetable evening of nonstop music from Randy Travis - thankfully it was indoors because temperatures were in the high 90's outside. He opened with "Whisper My Name" and closed with "Forever and Ever, Amen". In between he sang all my favorites plus some songs off his latest duet CD. He occasionally stopped to talk to the audience a bit. The night just flew by and would love to live it all over again, preferably with a front row seat this time!

We sat in the PITT area that was marked clearly on Tickemaster as General Addmission maitre d seating.. Which means, first come, first seated. Knowing this, we made sure that we were in line by 9pm (1-1/2 hours before the show started. There were 8 people per table, and we had plenty of room. This was my first time seeing Randy, who is the one that turned me to Country Music. This show was ablsolutely amazing. Randy did not disappoint, he played most of his top hits, including many songs from the early years and a couple of new ones that will be on the 25th anniversary cd. I was a little bummed that there wasn't an encore as there were still a few songs that I would have liked to hear....But that is expected when you see somebody like Randy, that has so many hits...

Enjoyed Randy's Show at the Silver Legacy in Reno. He puts on a really enjoyable show. He spoke to the audience as if we were chatting personally. Even told a joke about Bill Gates and heaven. He sounded better in person than on any CD. Only at his concerts he sells his "Around the Bend" CD autographed. Only a limited suppy, so good to buy before the concert. Hi, I'm still trying to believe that I got to see and hear Randy Travis in person and that he sounded even better in person than he does on record. He wasn't lip-synching because at the end of the first song he didn't hit the highest note quite right but after a couple more songs he hit the next high note just fine. I think his voice just wasn't warmed up for first high note. But it was a good night for low notes for him. I know that he can hit low notes but I swear he hit a few so low that the Paramount Theatre 's floor and walls vibrated. The only other time I've felt that was when Elvis told J.D. Sumner to do his thing which meant to hit the extremely low notes that he could do. Randy might not have hit as low a note as J.D's but he came mighty close to it. He told jokes and humorous stories, jokes about his band, joked with the audience. He's willing to take requests. He sang a lot of his hit songs too. He entertained for 2hrs without a break. He started off with A Better Class Of Losers a No. 1 hit that he co-wrote with Alan Jackson through to his most recent No. 1 Three Wooden Crosses. He was great singing with the amazing band of his or with just his guitar and voice on A Horse Called Music and I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. He spoke of telling a friend's surprised daughter that he had recorded I Told You So first before Carrie Underwood did. In fact, it was No.1 for him in 1988. He has 2 CMA nominations this year. One for the song of the year and the other for event of the year (duet with Underwood) both for I Told You So which he wrote by himself. He ended the show with the most played song at weddings and receptions his Forever And Ever Amen hit. He walked off but returned moments later for his encore. The encore paid homage to the country legends like Ernest Tubb, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Sr. and Vern Gosdin. If you want to see a singer dance around, swing on ropes, have backup singers in skimpy outfits hanging all over him or pole dancing around him while he lip-synchs amid screeching guitars, then don't go see Randy. But if you want to listen to great country music, don't mind being entertained with clean jokes, and no foul language then I highly recommend going to his concerts. He usually shakes hands and signs autographs at the end of his concerts if possible. Also his fan club members get Meet & Greets too. I do admit to being a little biased but my sister and friend both told me that they enjoyed his show and neither one are fan club members like me. They are more Elvis fans than Randy's fans but they both were impressed by his performance and glad they went.

This concert was one of the best I have ever attended. Performances of Randy's songs were unforgettable. He led Amazing Grace and it was beautiful!

The Randy Travis show was really great. He sounds great even for an older Gentleman who Howls at the moon in different ways. His voice is still strong and his band did not try to overpower him during his performance. The sound was at a very comfortable level which can not be said for all performers.

He was fabulous. I belive he wasn't feeling his best but that didn't stop the show. His performance was great....engaging.....would have loved to have an encore only because it was so electrified at the end! He was so real.....no fake feel...and that's always so refreshing....it was like he was just sitting around the camp fire!

Great show. He performed all the old greats and a variety from his new albums. Enjoyed the show very much. There was a 40 minute gap between the opener act and Randy, I thought that was a little much.

My family was very disappointed in the concert. It was difficult to make out most of his words because the instruments were so loud. He clearly had difficulty processing his thoughts between songs, as noted in the gaps during his speech. He appeared to even have difficulty remember his band member names. Although we bought the 25th anniversary CD, there was very little "Randy" on it. Another disappointment. Next concert he should use less instruments and just give us more vocal.

Iv never been to a concert Kind of worldly. I had a nice time shock Randy s hand told him to stay Christian know matter what The Lord had to me say that I do know that Randy could do ten time s that. singing for the Lord then the world. That s his call . There is know other joy then to work for the Lord The blessing are so worth the trip I don't listen to that stuff country I'm a farmer rancher . Come out from among them and I will show you wonders joy unspeakable. Sing for us Randy Bigger money in that The world has nothing When the Lords in it , I know. Its amazing and then some LOL San Antonio is a busy town I had a terrific time shopping The Majestic Theater was so neat I loved to see the older couples rows an rows of them in fact they helped me, escorted me to my seat They really love you Well Gods speed

Randy sang quite a few songs as well as visited with the audience and telling stories. There were stories about other stars. His band was great. I am one of his biggest fans since the beginning and I have seen him before. Randy responded to the audience and it was great to hear the ranges with his voice. I bought 3 CDs and a magnet. I have one CD that has been in my car and plays over and over. I was excited to hear him sing most of the CD. My guest was Miss Rodeo Texas and she enjoyed his concert also. Our seats were great. The only thing is that I wished was that he would of came back on stage for a couple of more songs at the end. It was great that he shook hands before leaving the stage. I could of been one of his backup singers as singing his songs with him.

Excellent performance. Just a bit slow to come on stage after the pre show duo. The time posted for the evening was 7p.m. After about a 30 minute pre show, we waited 40-45 minutes. Too long, but his show was great.

The concert was fine. I have a criticism of the venue however. We saw Randy at the Majectic Theater in San Antonio, TX. The theater is great, sound is amazing but the concert was scheduled for 7:00pm.. It started at 7:05 with an opening band. Not terrible. They played for about 25 minutes. Now it is 7:30 and Randy didn't come out until 8:00. I found that the half hour wait was truly annoying. I don't know if every venue does this but I hope not. Anyway, this is no reflection on Randy. He was great.

Randy Travis is one of my favorite country singers. The show was awesome the set list song was great and he sounds just like he does on his record! I can't wait for him to come back to San Antonio and I hope he does because i would love to buy tickets to see him again.
