This was my first time seeing Common in concert. I got hip to him in 2002 (a little late) and I've been in love with him ever since. His music is deep and spiritual. He doesn't degrade women or talk about killing people or having jewelry. He talks about life. I loved it!

The show was even better than I expected it to be. I thought Common would tone things down for symphony crowd but he didn't very much. The crowd loved it and it was a great time!

What a wonderful evening! The orchestra was great, but Common and his team were absolutely unforgettable. Many of his songs came with such strong meaning and purpose. When they performed "Glory" it was so moving and it sent chills through my body. I would definitely go see him again.

The show was amazing from beginning to end. The movie sound tracks range from very old school to Hip Hop. I loved the performances by the various artists. The host provided wonderful historical information about the films. I look forward to another great performance next year.

This was my 2nd time attending and I will be make it an Annual Hollywood Bowl event. It was an outstanding evening and he performers where outstanding! I did wish that there where more Clips from movies shown up on the screens. But not complaining at all it was a wonderful venue!!!!! Please keep up the good work!!!!

This event was AWESOME. The movie clips bright back memories, the history of some scenes was insightful and the music was to be celebrated. Marcus Miller and Reginald Hudlin did a great job. I would come back to this event time and time again because I know they will arrange , organize and draft the best musicians and performers to highlight the beauty and boldness of the black movie soundtrack

What a wonderful event! It needs more advertisement. Although it was packed, I never heard it advertised and was told about it by a friend. Every single artist was amazing. Charlie Wilson took it home as usual, Gladys Knight looked and sounded amazing! It was a wonderful evening out with good energy and great music!

Very pleasant night of reminiscing on music and movies that are part of the African American cultural experience. A lot of call and response that allowed the audience to feel a part of the experience. Surprise guest kept the mood fantastic. Nice tribute to the works of Prince and the conclusion of Common performing Glory was the perfect note considering the times.

Watching the 'Empress of Soul' is always a great experience. I went to her concert earlier in August at The Bowl as well. Earth, Wind, and Fire was Amazing! Charlie Wilson held everything together. Layla Hathaway's performance of Purple Rain was B-E-A-UTIFUL! This was the best of "The Bowl" this summer, so far!!!

7am the doors opened to the music hall. HOB played hip hop through the speakers while the fans entered for nearly 2 hours. The first act was Estelle. She hit the stage a few minutes before 9pm. Estelle was entertaining, a bit of a potty mouth but still entertaining. She has a great voice & sounds like she does on the radio. Another hour passed with HOB playing more hip hop on the speakers while the stage crew prepared for Common. Common hit the stage shortly after 10pm with high energy. He maintained this high energy throughout the show. He shared with the crowd his break dancing skills, lots of oohs & ahhhs very entertaining. He hyped the crowd by acknowledging west coast hip hop. He gave us some his classics & some of his newer tracks, along with some freestyle rap for the crowd. I love that he can freestyle, a lot of newer rappers haven't mastered that skill. I would highly recommend seeing Common if he comes to your city.

From the advertisement I was lead to believe that Common would be performing at the Lincoln Theatre. He did not. It was an award and talent show. Common was interviewed by the MC. He did not perform and due to weather his plane was delayed and he did not come on stage untill almost 9pm. The show started at 6:30pm/

I have been to ...(counting) I think FIVE live performances by COMMON...(HOB-Sunset, UCI, Palladium, Wildin' & Out Taping, & Rock The Bells) & everyone gets better & better!!! HOB -Sunset (2005) was my first time seeing him live..and i fell in love!!!! He crowd surfed right over my head...I was in complete AWE!!!! Any chance i get to see him live...i just cant pass it up!!! So i am extremely excited to seen him once again at HOB!!!!!!

The show was really good. Common has personality and talent to spare. He knows how to freestyle, knows the classics (both his own and others) and knows how to play for a crowd. The man has "it". I'd happily pay to see him again. However, the show was too short. He played for 50minutes with no encore. I blame this more on the House of Blues than Common, but that was a tad disappointing for sure.

Common and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra was just incredible. What an amazing experience of a musical melding of hip hop and classical sounds. I can't say enough about how much I loved this. The venue was fantastic on a fantastic night. I was visiting Columbus from Chicago and when I saw this event I knew I had to attend. I am so glad I did! We paid extra for seats at the tables because we didn't have any chairs or blankets with us and it was well worth it. The Commons park was the perfect size for that intimate feel. We shared the table with some other great couples and became friends.

Common was as wonderful as I always imagined he would be. The Columbus orchestra was great as well. The venue at The Commons was delightful-- a total Hassel free experience. It was my first time. I only wish they provided projectors on the sides-- for those who were encamped on the lawn. Otherwise, it was a perfect. The seating arrangements were basically first come-- first serve on the lawn. But my mobile ticket got me through the gate with ease. Also, the event staff were friendly & patient. Unfortunately I found out about the event at the last minute-- or I would have definitely been seated at one of the tables near the stage! Still, I had an awesome time. I will definitely attend again!

Great Concert. Bought the tickets not really knowing what this was (I know, rookie move). I will be doing this again and these are the things I have taken into account. If you buy table seating make sure that if your a group you buy you tickets all at once! we did separability (One RIGHT after the other) and we were in completely different sections. although we made it work, it was definitely avoidable. also if you get table seating it looks like you are able to bring your own alcohol! the stuff they sell is very overprice and everything has to be paid in cash. I'm not sure about GA tickets but it seemed like everyone could have their own set up. and last! bring bug spray or a table top bug repellent. this review if more for people who do things on a whim like myself.

What a great event...nostalgic even! Watching old movie clips and listening to the amazing music behind it was a real trip back down memory lane! The acoustics were amazing and the beautiful talented artistry on stage was phenomenal! I hope there working on part 2 of this event I'll be there! If there were any more spaces between the benches I would had to do the Kid N Play dance off moves my self! Overall just a variety of great music and film!

This event took me back to when I was young dude growing up in Harlem. Every guy wanted to be Shaft, and have Pam Grier as his lady. The music in the Bowl was outstanding. Gladys Knight was great (does she ever age?). Earth Wind & Fire, Charlie Wilson, BaybyFace. Felt like church. Lalah Hathaway singing "Purple Rain" in memory of Prince was truly magical. Can't wait 'til the Black Movie Soundtrack III.

It was an extraordinary event. Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the president of the Motion Picture Academy, set it off with her comments placing African American music in Hollywood in an historical context. The performers and hosts continued giving us good music, excellent musicianship, crowd-pleasing clips and a lot of love for the next 2-plus hours. I missed last year's event but I will not miss the next one.

The show was Exquisite in presentation and the quality of Vincent Mendoza's band with Marcus Miller was a sound eargasm. The coupling of film clips and live music made this one of our favorite outings. Gladys Knight,Charlie Wilson,Babyface were outstanding. Lalah and Judith were breath taking. We loved the show. Common and Krs-one are wonderful performers but the venue left a lot to be desired. The staff was not friendly or professional. The doors opened late, too many opening acts, and the headliners took the stage after 12:30am. This could be a good after party location if it weren't so expensive!

The unsigned hype portion lasted almost 3 hours and I was not buying the ticket for that. I left before the main attraction! Had I known about this, then I would have shown up much later to see who I paid for!

We waited 4 hours, through terrible local opening acts and DJs, and at 1am gave up on seeing KRS One and Common. What a shame. Will request total refund, wish the $11 drinks could be reimbursed.

We waited until 1Am in a COLD venue for Krs-one or Common to come on. No show. Hands down the worst concert I've ever been to in the District. We deserve a full refund and then some!

First of all, this concert was to be a date night for my husband and I to celebrate his birthday. We got a babysitter for our 2 year old and since "doors opened at 9", we expected the actual concert to start at least by 11 and be over by 1 or 1:30 am. We live 5 minutes from the venue and told the babysitter we'd be home by 1:30. Sigh. The so called opening acts didn't come on until around 11. And all but one of the "up and coming new artists" (sorry I can't remember the gentleman's name) were horrendous. So bad, it was almost comical. Thankfully the DJ's that we're spinning before/ in between acts were really good. Besides all this, it was freezing in there! I had on jeans, a t-shirt, and a jacket and was so cold I was miserable the later it got. Common finally came on at 1:00am. Yep, 1am. So we saw all of about 15 minutes before we had to leave. I do not understand such a late start as this is a concert hall, not a nightclub. We were totally disappointed and I would love a refund but won't hold my breath.

I am sure they would have been great if we had stayed to watch. But the show was supposed to start at 9, we stayed until 1230, to no avail, and we left. We found out later, via Common's Facebook page, that he came out at 2 am. Unacceptable.

Common is an amazing poet. His show was excellent. Unfortunately, the sound engineer could not hear that the music was too loud to hear Common's brilliant poetry. The mix between voice and music was a constant battle all night.

The show was awesome! That was my first time seeing Common, Jay Electronica, or Rapsody... the music was unbelivable!! My Boyfriend is a fan of all 3 artists and he really enjoyed himself! I wish it had been reserved seating... having people step on you, bump into you, and spill drinks on you was not fun and took away from the experience.

The show was absolutely MASSIVE! 9th opened the crowd up! Rapsody lyrically destroyed the stage. Jay Electronica was everything I ever thought it would be! Massive display of real hip hop! And Common never disappoints! Salute to the J Dilla salutes throughout the sets. Excellent show.

I enjoyed this concert very much. It was my first time getting the opportunity to see Common Live. He rocked the joint! I was also able to see my friend and his DJ, DJ Dummy, and Maimouna Yousef who is from the area and currently touring with Common singing background and hooks. Had a ball!
