When I saw that Bill Murray was touring with a live show, I thought what an amazing experience to share an evening with this incredibly talented actor who has been entertaining me for over 30 years in movies. I didn t know what to expect exactly but what I got was a true marvel. This brilliant comedic actor brought every bit of his acting repertoire with him and delivered through dramatic reading, comedic reading, and song. He delivers a line like no one else. And then there are three world class musicians pairing his singing and readings with a variety of musical styles from classical to show tunes to folk and rock. His reading from Huckleberry Finn coupled with the song Moon River will stay with you. This is a variety show not to be missed but hopefully to be repeated. I feel richer for having seen it.

The show was so boring, so self-indulgent, and bereft of charm that multiple audience members yelled at Bill Murray directly, while others had open conversations amongst themselves about how poor the show was during the performance. Murray made zero attempts to engage with the crowd or course correct, even when it was clear he had lost the room. Pure hubris. Yikes.

No comedy whatsoever. He read passages from famous literature. The string trio was good but not what we had in mind at all.

Despite the 2 hecklers in the audience this was a great show. Highly talented musicians paired with the phenomenal readings from Bill Murray made for an exceptional performance. This is NOT a SNL skit folks so get over it and enjoy this.

Bill Murray, Jan Vogler & Friends have combined to create a magical evening. The interplay of spoken words together with music, plus words that form a music all their own, along with music that speaks its own story, all woven into a tapestry of sound and feeling that laps the listener in lovely layers of warmth and beauty. Funny and poignant and deeply human, it's an unforgettable experience that is not to be missed.

This was a great show. I recall seeing a notice about it on social media and just deciding there to purchase tickets, having no idea what I was in for. It was our first date night after having out child a couple of months ago and we were thrilled at the humor and the talent of the performers. Please book more shows like this in the future!

The show consists of three spectacularly skillful musicians on the cello, violin and piano, with Bill Murray telling stories, making jokes, acting out a bit, showing off his voice acting and singing skills, and just being Bill Murray. I am a Bill Murray fan, I like dry humor, and also enjoyed the short and lively musical pieces. The show is not for everyone, sometimes the stories told in various accents were not as clear as they ideally could have been, and the tone was generally low key rather than a great visual display. Something different though, bit of political humor dropped in there for good measure, and a humanizing experience in general.

This show was kind of a unique concept of spoken word, singing and music, so I wasn t quite sure what to expect. I was blown away by Bill Murray s talent and ability to project so many different characters and emotions, which were definitely enhanced by the musical accompaniment. The multiple standing ovations were evidence that the rest of the audience were similarly entertained and impressed. If you get a chance, go see this show!

Wonderful show. I am a huge fan of Bill's, on so many levels, and it was a real pleasure to experience another facet of his already ample talents. The only disappointment was that, although we had excellent seats, he played the entire show on the opposite side of the stage. And Jan Vogel and friends were exceptional!

I love Bill Murray and all his work throughout the years, I knew this was not your typical Bill Murray performance, but this was just not worth the money. The instrument playing was amazing but to sit there while Bill read Mark Twain was just not worth it. As we left early I thought what would John Belushi say to Bill Murray after this performance? I am not sure what he was trying to say with the performance and I may have missed it by leaving early but I just could not take it anymore.

From the moment the curtains were drawn, I was enthralled with the delightful quirkiness of this show. Murray moved effortlessly from serious readings of prose to humorous song, while the music from Vogler, Wang, and Perez was perfection. I didn t want the show to end, and would highly recommend this show to anyone.

My husband and I ordered tickets on the spur of the moment after reading about the show in the Sunday paper. We had no expectations - just thinking it'd be a nice night out. It wasn't just a nice night out - it was a great night out! I don't know how you could leave the show and not have a smile on your face. It covered everything from the classics to Motown. Not only was Bill Murry great, so were the cellist, pianist and violinist. They worked well together, and seemed to be having as much fun as the audience while working very hard to entertain us. It was different from anything else we have ever gone to, and so worth it! 5 stars for the show and 4 stars for the venue only because chairs are on the same level in sections, making it difficult to see if you weren't in the front row.

This was my first time at the Orpheum, it is a gorgeous building. My only complaint is how narrow the chairs are for even smaller people. The show was amazing. It was funny and touching with a variety of literary and musical selections.

Ok, first off: I knew what this was when I bought the ticket. I knew that this "performance" was primarily a classical recital featuring Saturday Night Live legend Bill Murray reading literature passages, so there was no disappointment on that front. Murray is a bit of an odd duck; he divides his time between making independent films, showing up in public at the strangest times (taking tickets at a baseball game, a wedding), and of course, indulging in this tour, which was worthwhile if a little dull here and there, kind of what I expected. Thankfully, Bill interjected a bit of humor every now and then, which made the evening move along a little faster. He also sang a few times; while his voice isn't going to get him any offers to headline any reputable opera house, he did well for what range he has. The program was pretty much an exact duplicate of the recent cd he made with cellist Jan Volger, from beginning to end. Of the literature that Bill read during the duration of the show, only the one from Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn" didn't work, and not necessarily because of the...(*ahem*)...'politically incorrect' phrases contained within; rather, it was because it went on far too long at nearly twenty minutes. Also, bookending the piece with Henry Mancini's immortal "Moon River" was likewise a poor choice; the song is far too contemporary to be attached to anything Twain had written. Best was Bill's vocal rendition of Tom Waits' "The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not Me)", and the "West Side Story" medley that closed the show, with Bill running around the stage singing "I Feel Pretty", to many welcome laughs from the sparse crowd. Altogether, it was something different, akin to my having seen Woody Allen play clarinet with a dixieland jazz outfit several years ago in Los Angeles. It was nice to meet Bill afterwards too, as brief as that was. He's clearly enjoying stepping out of his comfort zone for this, and I'm glad I went...but I wouldn't do so again.

It is worth every penny to sit as close as you can to the stage to watch Bill Murray, Jan Vogler, Mira Wang and Vanessa Perez. Charming, brilliant and inventive play between music, literature, spoken word and Bill Murray's sly, sweet humor makes this a must see event.

Bill Murray and Friends was everything you want a night at the theater to be: thought-provoking, surprising, well-done, perfectly cast, executed with humor, flair and heart. Loved every moment! The world-class musicians he chose to join him are so talented - it was a joy to watch them. Best of all, THEY all seemed to be having a blast performing! Would most def recommend, and should they return, I would go again!

I am a Bill Murray fan but there wasn't much of the Bill Murray I was hoping for. All the performers were extremely talented. I needed more comedy. When he was funny he was really funny, but when he wasn't he was really boring. The entire evening was a sleeper, literally. I wasn't the only one dozing. Also many people left after the first 15 min. Sorry Bill, this was disappointing.

Want to know how this show came about? Bill Murray was average in delivering his stories, poems. Need stronger voice. The music was awesome yet didn t seem like it blended in with each story. Felt like Billy needed some money and we donated because of Chicago influence.

Bill Murray backed by a string trio reading selections of literature with no explanation. And he sings some too. Anyone not a major celebrity would not be tolerated with such a performance. Mr. Murray shouldn t try to sing to sober audiences. Which is probably why such a high percentage of the audience would get up during the musical interludes and head to the lobby to buy drinks, Allowed back in en mass during the following musical interlude. Listening to him read a passage from Huck Finn with its dozen n-words was the most cringeworthy. It wasn t until the 4-5 encores that the audience got to see what they came for.

First, I love Bill Murray - doing anything, and anything may be what this show is. If you re expecting Caddyshack comedy, you will be disappointed. If you enjoy classical music and appreciate the subtleties of a good orator, this is for you. Many of the readings were serious, but we laughed a lot as well. No one can deliver a line like Bill Murray, whether he s reading Hemingway or singing I Feel Pretty . Classical musicians, a beautiful setting, like the room at the Fillmore, and Bill Murray. What a combo! We had a wonderful time.

This w as an amazing collaboration with Bill Murray and Jan Vogler. Murray went from reading a passage from a Moveable Feast to reciting the words from Tom Waits the Pianos' not Drinking. Vogler's cello playing was mesmerizing as was the violin and piano player who are pro's in their own right.. The Orpheum was the worst venue for this. The crowd in the ground level bar was noisy and rude with cellphones and cash registers beeping periodically. This venue should only be used for very loud rock bands. In addition the seating has not been updated since the 19th century when people were short. I'm only five 3 and my knees hit the back of the seat in front. Definitely see this show in Hanover.

Wonderful performance by everyone, Bill Murray is a genius. It was beautiful, funny and poignant all around, and I loved it all. The only negative would be that the acoustics were poor and I don t think the sound team did a good job with the mics, it was pretty quiet and especially hard to hear Bill. Other than that, grand slam!

We weren't sure what to expect. We didn't do any research beforehand, didn't read any reviews. Obviously, we knew it would be Bill Murray, but we didn't know who the other folks were or what they'd all be doing on stage. And I'm so very glad we didn't have any hint of the fascinating, unique, simply charming and truly wonderful experience we'd have that evening. Readings, singing (mostly--but not entirely--spoken word), music, comedy, dancing, performance art. All these things and so much more. And don't be overly concerned if you're not familiar with the literary and musical source material (we mostly didn't). You'll enjoy it regardless, and perhaps more so because you were exposed to it for the first time by such talented, engaging folks. Tons of fun for the audience...and seemingly for the performers, too. And that was before the encores...

It must be nice to be Bill Murray, who can hand-select the finest classical musicians, playing the finest instruments, to accompany his interpretations of prose, poetry, and musical lyrics. It was one of the most emotionally touching and musically inspired evenings I've had the privilege to attend.

... and weird, but that is what made it so unique. From readings of Hemingway and Twain somehow seamlessly transitioning into singing West Side Story, this is a truly a one-of-a-kind experience. The chemistry of this group of friends is palpable. The talent, obvious. If you get a chance to go, don't hesitate.

If I had to do it over, I would have used the 3 hours this event took to take a nap. My husband actually did fall asleep during this and we had seats very close to the stage. I have no idea why Bill Murray would do this to himself other than he's mentoring these musicians, otherwise I just don't get it. This was mildly amusing at best. Somehow, Bill Murray and chamber music is like putting chocolate syrup on your fried oysters. The structure of the show made no sense whatsoever. At first I thought they were following an American History and literature time line, but no. This thing just rambled all over the place. And Stephen Foster "I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair"? Seriously? Cloying at best. The reading from Twain was about the most memorable but some people were annoyed by the use of the term " . Quite a few exited just halfway though the show. Too many encores! When I read the German cellist was the creator of this debacle it somehow made sense. What did he know about American history? Very little evidently. Wish I had saved my ticket money.
