JJ Grey and Mofro were fantastic. Susan was great too. Had never seen either before, but they did not disappoint. And the venue was perfect. My only complaint is that Mofro didn't play long enough!

I was a little surprised to see her play such down and dirty rock 'n roll and blues in a nice dress and heels, but she was great. I still don't know how she played a wah-wah in heels.

Her performance, my first time seeing her in person, was wonderful! She is an incredibly talented guitarist and she has a beautiful voice. And on top of that she is a really nice person! Just in chatting with her for a short while, we were impressed with her sincerity and graciousness.

The tickets to this show was part of our anniversary gift to each other this year and the performances will help make it something we will allways remember. Susan and her band are incredible, their talents just get better all the time. And her opening act was amazing!!!

The stage was set and preceded by the powerful and emotionally charged Shemekia Copeland who did a great job bringing on the blues groove that would permeate the night. There was definitely a higher electrical power and grit to Susan's raw energy and you could feel it from here very first song and biggest hit, "It Hurt So Bad". We all knew she HAD to do this one and, although she's probably performed this thousands of times, there certainly didn't appear to be any dropoff. Her guitar ripping was better than we thought and we were pleasantly surpised. (She must be getting a LOT of "private lessons" from newly appointed Guitar God and husband, Derek Trucks). Great, gutsy, bluesy show which soared with a strong and tight rhtyhm section too.

Second time at South Shore Music Circus, fist time seeing this hometown girl. The wet weather did not dampen the mood. Being under that tent makes you feel so cozy and intimate with the band. Such a great venue for Tedeschi's bluesey rock-n-roll. Susan's distinct vocals and deft guitar playing just absolutely mesmerized me.

I really appreciate Susan's voice and her music. I saw her the first time with her husband Derek Trucks! She was great then too. My sister and I both love her music. My favorite song is People. I would go to see her again next year. I hope she continues writing great music and I wish her more success with her singing career. We had awesome seats and we love the South Shore Music Tent.

had a great time at the show. Susan grew up in the area (and I think is raising her children in the area - but I'm not sure about that). Seemed like she had a lot of family as people kept mistaking my father for a relative of hers. :-) The stage set up is great with a rotating performance area so every one got the chance to watch the band perform straight on. Susan has a great voice and is also a fine guitarist. Nice weather. The only let down was the traffic when leaving.

This was my fifth time seeing Susan Tedeschi and again, I was not disappointed. Susan performed a blend of her older, more popular tracks and introduced the audience to her much slower, Southern blues side. This was a much different Susan Tedeschi from last summer's tour with husband Derek Trucks, but still just as satisfying.

As well as Susan played and sounded, her opening act gave me goose bumps. Shameka Copelands voice was incredible. The only thing that could have been better that night was if they both sang together. They both have great soul to there voices that a duet would bring down the house.

Susan Tedeschi was strong and right on! with her vocals and guitar licks. Susan played everything we wanted to hear and despite the thunderstorms and the heavy rain, we went and Susan definatley delivered the goods! It was a terrific show and Ron Holloway was a smash on sax! A classic night out on the Cape. I see Susan every year at the Melody Tent and I was very pleased indeed that she did not perform with her husband, that's why I bought tickets this year at the Melody Tent, rather than another venue. I vowed never to attend one of her shows again if Derek Truks was performing with her. I've seen them twice before and it was a letdown. He tries to steal the show and it really prevents Susan from showcasing her incredible voice and guitar talent. A great night out! Thank You!

This was our first time seeing Susan Tedeschi, and definitely not the last. Not only is she a phenomenal artist, but also she and her band have the feel of musicians who've played together so long they are perfectly in sync. This venue was also surprisingly good - not upscale - but with a really fun and gritty vibe.

Been to many Tedeschi shows, and usually sit to the front. This show we sat to the side and the sound was very poor. Could not understand a word, she said. We had a party of eight and everyone commented the same. This should be looked at for future shows. We were in section A to the right of the stage. Other than that the show was great. Looking forward to the free show at Topsfield Fair in October. We ordered tickets on line early and had them for will call, and everything went very smoothly. Ate locally before the show, plenty of places to chose from, and viewed the sand sculptures on the beach after the show. Hampton Casino is a great place to see a show.

My husband and I have listened to and loved Tedechi's music for years. This was our first time seeing her live and were blown away by the music, but NOT in a good way. It was so painfully loud that you couldn't understand the lyrics, which there were not many of. She didn't sing even one of her older songs for her fans. It was mostly her husband - Trucks - monopolizing the show and stage. Yes, he is a super guitarist, but he is quite in love with himself, with his never ending riffs. She played second fiddle to him, standing aside and letting him steal the show and the spotlight. Again, the sound mix was crap - distorted and deafening loud - you couldn't even hear the horn section. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Thank God we left before it ended - at least we beat the crowds out of the venue and parking garage.

Susan is one of my favorites and we enjoyed the concert. The music was excellent. But because the opening band had such charisma and showmanship, it was more noticeable that Susan's band seemed disconnected from one another. It is more fun for the audience when the band is having FUN PLAYING TOGETHER and off of one another. Only Susan connected with us. The band seemed to be doing their own individual thing. They were excellent musicians but didn't appear to be team mates if that makes sense.

Great music and a great voice. I also saw the Derek Trucks Band at another venue this summer. Tedeschi and her significant other, Derek Trucks, are wonderful performers with top rate bands. It's a treat to listen to Tedeschi's beautiful guitar playing and that great sounding voice of hers. Three great concerts this year (at various venues) have been Tedeschi, Trucks, the Allman Brothers featuring Derek Trucks & Warren Haynes, and a concert with Johnny Lang. You can't miss with any of these. -- And of course, Eric Clapton and Steve(ie) Winwood. Nice summer.

My wife and I had seen Susan perform at the Crystal Ballroom, with her husband Derek Trucks, as they toured the Soul Stew Revival show last year. Based on that stellar lead vocal and lead guitar performance by Susan and her recent CD "Back To The River", I bought tickets to this gig at the Oregon Zoo, with the understanding that it would likely be a very different show. But I did not expect to come away more or less disappointed. We even left before her "last" song and the obligatory encore were finished, just so we could beat the crowds out of the parking lot. I don't typically do that, when I attend a concert by a musician/singer/songwriter or artist whom I respect, recommend (nay, gush about) to my closest friends, and actively support through CD purchases. The musicians in her backup group were all talented to varying degrees. The saxophonist was without a doubt the best player in the quintet, with the lead guitarist a close second, followed in orders of magnitude less by bassist, drummer and keyboard player. The drummer lacked dynamic restraint. Much of the time, he was overplaying and too loud, and subsequently detracted from Susan's performance as a result. That fact may have been more a function of the person(s) operating the sound system, but from where I sat, which was fairly close to the band, it sounded as though he often dominated the stage sound, as well. As a group, they were not particularly tight nor professional. In fact, the opening act, JJ Grey and Mofro, was far tighter and more professional. Susan's voice was in good form, but she didn't come through enough, on top of the band's overall mix, to suit my taste. Additionally, there was very little if any harmony vocals accompanying her. I realize that a lot of musicians don't sing and one must economize in the current financial atmosphere, but the show would've benefited enormously from the inclusion of even just one decent backup singer. Lastly, Susan's lead guitar sound was far thinner than what I heard from her at the Crystal Ballroom. Granted, this show was outside, and again some of the blame can be spread to the sound crew, but she also just did not perform the searing, climatic leads, with which I grew so enamored during the Soul Stew Revival. Maybe it was that she was not feeding off her husband Derek's unfathomable talent and indefatigable energy. I don't know. I gave this show a 3 out of 5, but only because I couldn't give it a 7 out of 10. It was better than a 3, but uninspired and forgettable enough to be less than a 4. (Sorry, Susan. I love your music.)

We had heard that Susan would be performing on the Blues Cruise this year...so we expected a blues singer. Boy - were we wrong...she is more reminiscent of Janice Joplin...very husky, rough voice. Great music but a little too rock and roll-ish for what we had expected. Also, very little connection with the audience...lots of time spent changing guitars every song or so with no patter as one would expect from a more experienced musician.

this was my first Zoo concert series event, so i wasn't prepared for the venue, in that i didn't bring a chair or a blanket, but, the mood there was charged as the music more than made up for any short comings on my part. I discovered Susan about 4 months ago and have enjoyed her music very much, so when i foun d she was coming to town i jumped on the chance to get tickets, i took my 15 year old daughter and she enjoyed it as well, although she is probably a few years from really enjoying the genre to the fullest, i will see her again next time through town and i will go to another Zoo event very soon.

My wife and I being "Huge" fans of Susan and going to every concert she has had in Portland, Or., found this appearance to be very lacking in her normal high energy shows. To start, her opening band was extremely disappointing and should have stayed home. They were no better than our local garage bands and did not prepare the crowd for Susan at all. Her last opener at the Alladin Theater, "James Hunter" was extremely talented and got the crowd excited and ready for Susan, and she followed with a very exciting and inter-active show with the audience. This time her show dragged and she seemed to be disconnected with the audience, repeating herself several times when she did try to talk to us. As an entertainer myself, I know that when you give an encore, you "Never" close with a very maudelin slow song, which is what she did this time. You want the people bouncing out with rhythm and style. Her actual comment to us was "We are going to play this number because WE like it. Hope you do!" and then she buried herself into the band and pretty much ignored us. Not very cool. We were sitting on top of the hill and saw many people leave about the half way mark of the show, and by the three quarter mark it was a steady flow to the gates. Being die hearts, we stayed to the end, but many around us were not happy with the over-all appearance this time. The one good thing we noticed is that Susan's guitar playing has "Greatly" improved and I applaud her much on her work there. On a final note, we personally feel Susan is a solid artist in her own right, but she kept refering to her husband, "Derek Trucks & Eric Clapton" as if she needed to mention their connection to help carry her show. Though it is a great show when she and Derek are together, we go to her concerts because we believe in her talents and skill. It is her sound we want and she needs to know that she has "Made It" as far as we are concerned and she doesn't need anybody's shoulders to stand on to be accepted.

Susan Tedeshi has a voice that reminds me of Janis Joplin and Bonni Raitt mixed but she is her own woman all the way. She is a fantastic performer that gives it her all. With her sometimes raspy, sometimes sweet voice and amazing guitar playing she keeps your attention and the crowd moving, dancing, swaying. This is the third time I've seen her and some of the band members have changed but she always has an excellent band. My favorite song of hers that she sang was HURT SO BAD. The Portland zoo is an awesome venue with great sound. Couldn't have asked for a better night.

From the first number, The Feeling the Music Brings, to her encore number, a Beatles tune, she was in top form all evening. Her sweet disposition and voice between acts belies that she's a take charge guitarist, and a truly transforming vocalist in the Katie Webster/Coco Taylor tradition. Her back up band of five talented musicians (particularly her drummer!) complimented her strengths. When she steps up to the mic and dons one of her several guitars, tie yourself down; You can't sit still when this woman takes the stage! One of the best concerts I've been to this year.

Susan played many songs from her latest album, a much more rock-influenced album. I think the town of Portland looks to her blues roots to display her wonderfully talented voice. Her back-up band was clearly talented. If she had stuck to her older blues songs it may have been a better concert. The real talent of the night was JJ Grey and Mofro. such a soulful, wonderful showman. Truly the highlight of the night.
