I was so looking forward to this show- the voices were sporadically good -but some even cracked in the middle of songs- the story was not layed out well so you did not care about the characters- It was just lacking in everything - the audience must have agreed because the appalause was polite only I walked out before intermission

I love plays. I even love bad plays. I've been to many many plays, including those at my children's elementary school. I have never left a play early: never. Until now. This play was awful, with two exceptions, the singing and the sets were quite good. Other than that, the whole show was poorly done; poorly acted; poorly cast; poorly costumed; poorly choreographed; the sound was awful. It stunk. It stunk so badly that we left during intermission. I'm so sorry about this. I truly wanted to love it.

I came from Philadelphia with my wife and 3 girls to see FAME at the Tropicana. We come every year to see the shows. This was by far the best production that they've ever done. It was like watching the BEST OF "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Amercian Idol , circa the 1980's. The performers really captured the nature of the 1980's. We all tremendously enjoyed the show. As far as the individual performances, we all thought that each one was perfectly cast. We were a little concerned when we found out that the understudy was going to go on for Ms. Bell. But the understudy was phenomenal. The duet she sang with the English teach was the highpoint of the show for us. The English teacher was great and had an overpower voice. Yet the understudy matched her note for note. Again, I applaud the director for his/her cast decisions. When we got back home, my girls contacted the music teacher at their high school to see if they can do FAME as their high school musical for 2010. We are definitely going again and may even bring the girl's high school music teacher with us. Thank you to the cast and directors for a great night!

OK, but not Broadway quality. Dragged at times. Worst part was the audience who thought they were home watching TV and talking the whole time. AC is a low class place and that's what is to be expected. Also, there are no reserved seats so everyone is squished in one section of the theater, which was otherwise largely empty.

I was not a big fan of the TV show, but I thought I'd check out this version when I was in Atlantic City. I got to see the opening night show and I was impressed. The ensemble numbers were the most entertaining and had the most energy. I expected there to visible and audible flaws, but it looked pretty smooth. Nice diversion from the casinos and a good value for $25

My husband wanted to see this, he's a Fame fan, loved the movie and the songs. This production only had 2 songs from Fame. We lmost fell asleep the choreography was so so and the lyrics were poor, it didn't flow. Seen other productions at the Tropicana and was happy with it, sorry not this one.

We just attended Fame at Tropicana the other evening in Atlantic City. I was so excited to finally see a production of this show on stage. The excitement did not last long. Maybe it started with the fact that the curtain went up a half hour late. But let me tell you, I wish the curtain had never gone up at all. The cast, as a whole was extremely untalented. This may also be the fault of the director, who obviously phoned this production in and may never have showed up for rehearsal. This was close to the worst high school production I have ever seen (I see everything). The unprofessionalism of not only the Tropicana staff, but the cast and crew as a whole was an embarassment to all of Atlantic City entertainment. The girl playing the "drummer" at one point accidentaly threw her stick, and could only drum with one hand. The other people on stage with her all started laughing and ruined the scene. What drummer has never thrown a stick before? Come on. Dancers throughought could not hold their blocking and kept running into each other. The scene changes were so slow, and amateurish in their direction, it was like teacher at a kindergarten play. Okay you get the idea. Now you know why after the fourth song, the audience started walking out DURING the two teachers song. I don't mean a few people, I mean a lot. It was so bad, as we left as well, a worker from the casino asked me, "Is the show over already?" I answered "The best part of this show, was when the curtain did not rise in the beginning!" Thank god I only spent $25.00 on this nightnmare!

Having been trained in theatre at the Senior Dramatic Workshop in NYC and having performed at Actors Studio, and my wife trained at American Ballet Theatre and taught dance for many years, we collectively know something about the stage. We found the direction and staging to be very poor. The performers were obviously instructed to hit their marks on stage, deliver their lines/sing their song and leave. Most performers did their best and had good voices for the songs, but there was a total lack of emotion in what should have been highly charged situations. For example, the death of a school friend was announced with the same emotion as losing ones favorite pen. The performers were not permitted to move or express feelings which resulted in a very stiff performance. The scenery was moved, it seemed, every 2 minutes when it apparently had no meaning to what was transpiring on stage. This presentation had absolutely no comparison with the original Fame series with Debbie Allen and the electric performances of that cast. Sorry, but this was a flop.

I bought tickets for this show thinking it would be similar to the original movie starring Irene Cara and Debbie Allan.....how wrong I was! Although this show takes place at the School of Performing Acts, as the opening song is titled "P.A.", all of the show's songs are new songs made for this stage show. The only song that is from the movie is the title song "Fame". Other than that, the characters are completely new and the storyline is completely different. While some might find this new rendition of Fame to be enjoyable, I found the show to be very amateurish like a high school musical. The only good thing was that the seats, if you waited in line in advance, were excellent. I would not recommend the show unless you had no other form of entertainment for the evening.

I enjoyed it. The main character Carmen really put the show together. The other actors were also great. Especially Tyrone, the bad boy that turned good. The songs really were up to beat. Although, it had its nics and nacs here and there, you quickly forget them about because the next scenes are always an eye catcher. All the neon colors and 80's outfits were adorable. I went to see Fame with my friends on Sunday afternoon and we totally enjoyed it. The dancing had a lot of energy, the singing was hot and the show was 90 minutes of lighthearted fun. After the show, my friends and I were discussing something that surprised all of us. We usually pay attention to the leads and of course, we did this time also. But this time, there were a couple girls in the ensemble that we noticed over and over again. One had a lot of curly hair and the other had a long ponytail. It says a lot when the ensemble catches your eye and is memorable. It was just interesting that we all noticed them and they did great.

This show was really cute. They worked hard to give a great presentation. I thought the message was genuine. I am not one for fighting crowds or paying huge amounts for a show so this was perfect. My beautiful dancer daughter (9 years old) and her dancer friend were with me. Although some scenes were more for adults it was far from over the top. I originally got the tickets for her so that she can see in person how it looks to create the type of song and dance she loves when she get older. Thanks for a nice show.

Great show. It was lively, the dancing, the music and the acting. We loved "Vegas" especially with that crooked smile. I took my daughter for her 9th Birthday and she loved it. It was a bit more mature than her HSM but the tunes carried her thru the confusion of the story line. For me it was a sweet reminder of one of my favorite TV shows from years ago. We will try to get to see it again before it ends as well as get the music.

The singing voices were excellent, but the entire first half, the music was so loud that the lyrics were unintelligible. The plot was weak, but that would've been okay if the acting had been better. Iris' reaction to Tyrone copying her term paper was bizarre. Her expression looked like she was ashamed and we were waiting for a plot twist in which she'd been the one to turn in a plagiarized version. Where was the anger at Tyrone's denial that he'd copied Iris' paper (thus implying that Iris was the one guilty of plagiarism.) Joe's character was a caricature and stopped being funny after just a few minutes. The sexual innuendos made this production a little racy for a family production. The actress who played Carmen has an amazing voice, but she over sang every single song. It started getting tedious listening to her really long overdone multitude of runs. When the audience eagerly anticipates the song ending, that's not a good thing. I think Serena was our favorite. She had a beautiful voice, and her acting and singing was the most realistic. Overall, it's not a production that I would wish to see a second time. The overacting kept bringing us out of the play and the over-singing ruined most of the songs (including the title song, which I didn't think was possible). Portions of it were like watching a bad high school play and it definitely was not worth the ticket price. In fact, quite a few people (about 1/2 the g row) left during intermission.

This was one of the worst performances I have seen at the Fred Kavli theater. The audio was a shrill, hardly discernible shout, and spoiled the experience for me! The acting matched the audio, very poor. And I think the opening number was just too sexually explicit, even embarrassing. After more than five decades of theater enjoyment, this was abysmal, the very bottom!

This traveling show was just painful. Yes, we get that this is supposed to be a show about talented high school performers, but we did not expect to seem like an ACTUAL high school performance! We expected "FAME" to have excellent singing and acting, and high energy, exciting choreography and dancing. We were grossly disappointed on every level. The singing was fine at times, but sub-par too often. The acting was just bad-- over-acting, cliche, and non-believable performances ruled the show. And the dancing -- what dancing? The little bit of dancing we saw was really just bad. I mean, EVERYTHING Tyrone does should be fun, hip and inspired -- it was anything but. His "new dance form" that he choreographed at the beginning looked like something from my 9yo's dance class. Look -- the set was cute, but that's the only positive thing I have to say. If we could have left BEFORE intermission, we would have. We noticed that lots of other people left at intermission too.....

I was disappointed with this performance. I had to keep reminding myself that it was a PROFESSIONAL touring group. I have seen some high school performances go better. While there were a couple of great voices, many voices were flat or sharp and somewhat painful. I was more impressed with the theatre than the play. Main character was a hot beautiful girl, in theory. So when a plain looking, slightly heavy actress was there, imagination was needed. When she leaves and returns as a starving drug addict. imagination was required.

Fame was ok. The singing was not very strong. The actress playing Carmin, should have been a much stronger singer. Dancing in front, the young lady with blonde hair, was very good. She is the one to watch. Dinner was a bust because of the wait. We had never been to Mystic and did not know that you need to allow at least an hour to wait in line for the buffet. The package we had was for dinner and the show. The casino restaurant provided a super meal, very quickly (almost too quickly) with a nice slection. I would rate the quality of the food equal to any good restaurant in the area. The showroom is very impressive, on par with the Ryman in Nashville. The dancers couldn't get off the ground and weren't tight...however, the girl who played Iris was quite good, so I watched her. I thought this presentation was very sophmoric in presentation. I would expect to see a show like this at a High School with a good drama program. The cast did have good voices, though. I was expecting more from this musical. But I do have one question...what is with putting the battery packs in the dancers' booty shorts? They looked like they had tails! That looked funny and I found it very distracting when they were dancing or even walking around. I can't believe that there isn't a better place to keep those packs!

It was just okay. Choose it as a last resort of things to do, because it was still better than having nothing to take my parents to. I have been to several shows at the Trop and like the others this show was very enjoyable. The enthusiasm of the young performers was contagious. The singing and dancing was fun. And of course the finale when they all sang Fame was absolutely fabulous.
