Young Dubliners

Young Dubliners

YOUNG DUBLINERS IN CONCERT:Celtic rock heroes the Young Dubliners have been breathing new life into Irish music since the late '80s with their festive blend of traditional ballads and contemporary rock. The band's modern take on folk songs and sea shantys always makes for a good time at their live shows, where Irish dancers often take the stage to jig and curtsy alongside the musicians. Fresh off the 2013 release of their ninth studio album, the band are ready to tear it up on select 2014 tour dates.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:The Young Dubliners were formed in Los Angeles in 1988 by Paul O'Toole and Irish-born Keith Roberts.

I love this band and recently saw them a couple of days before in San Diego for St Patrick's Day. I enjoyed seeing them in a more intimate setting. They sounded great. I just wish more people were there. It doesn't seem like the event was advertised enough.

For anyone who has never seen the Young Dubs live, I would say RUN NOW and catch one of their live sets!!! These guys have great energy and an amazing sound. I will never again miss an opportunity to see them live if they are within driving distance. The energy never stops, and you will leave the show grinning and singing and dancing, and having a craving for some good Irish Whiskey! The guys are also very nice and appreciative of their audience. After the show they hung around the lobby and talked to everyone, took photos, signed autographs. Very personable folks!

Great evening. The group got the room up and dancing. Irish or not a terrific way to spend an evening.

We've seen the Young Dubliners numerous times and each time it just gets better and better! This particular time was special because Keith pulled our daughter up on stage with the last song and let me just say, that girl was in her glory having the time of her life. It is a moment in her life she'll never forget and we couldn't be more grateful! Thank you Keith!!! Every time they come to town, we're there...or even if they're in a close state for that matter. If you want to have a good ol' fashioned rockin' fun time, don't miss the Young Dubs, it just doesn't get any better. One of these days, we'll see them in Ireland and then I'LL be in my glory. :)

The Young Dubliners always put on a great show. The music is fun, the guys are talented and the fans are loyal. I enjoy seeing my friends from the Ireland trip whenever I go to their concerts. I also love going to the Canyon Club. It's a cool place where one can actually park free. I liked that I could book a seat this time for when I got tired dancing.

The Young Doubliners played great. But the venue was cold as hell inside. Even the waitress said it's always like that and wish they would turn the AC down... And the sound kind of sucked. It completely shut off during two songs but the band kept playing which was cool. The band rocks, I just wasn't to happy with the overall sound and temp inside.

The band was okay. Mostly loud, had some tech problems in the beginning. Really couldn't tell one song from the next. The band was really trying to prove how Irish they were. The venue at hardrock is only fair. Too many posts blocking the view, and the thermostat was on blasting hot, I think in an effort to get people to drink more.

I love these guys but the show on Friday did not live up to my expectations. We had good seats at a table in the middle of the Galaxy Theater. We could not understand most of the words to the songs. Even the ones we knew. We thought the first two bands didn't have use of the full sound system and when the YD came out it would be better. It wasn't. It could be the acoustics in the building??? I thought the Young Dubs missed an opportunity to play to a small crowd in an intimate setting but they played like it was a big loud arena or something like that. My final shot, they seemed to enjoy playing and jamming with each other rather than playing for or with the crowd. I still love them and their music. This show just didn't do it for me. Sorry guys.

Very good. Sounded just like on CDs. The wam up bands each played for an hour. 8-9 Galway Hooker Band and 9-10 Brick Top Blaggers. Young Dubliners played 10-12 midnight. The local Irish dancers that performed during each band were very good.

The show was perfect. The right mix of new songs, old songs, and classic songs we know and love and miss hearing live!! So happy Dubs took a step back in time as it made the concert perfect for me and my husband. We've followed YD's for many years, and this concert was perfect for us. It was my husbands birthday too, and he was very happy to hear YDs again!

Unfortunately, it was so loud that you couldn't hear the music, only the roar. These individuals are very talented and it was unfortunate that I couldn't hear them, only a roar and backfeed. This review does not reflect the quality of their talent or music, only the volumn.

Dave and the guys again put on a great show with energy and talent. But I am through with the Galaxy Theater in OC. Acoustics were terrible and you had to pay off the maitre de to even sit down. Young Dubliners are great the Galaxy sucks!

I have been following The Young Dubs for 10+ years when they were known only on the west coast and the Rockie mountains. Over those years they have never list their power, their energy. They are the premier band to take traditional Irish songs and put them to a rock beat. But on top of that their own music is exceptional. These guys put their hearts and souls into their music and if you don't leave their concert with a new surge of energy then you might want to check for a heart beat.

The show was amazing! The venue was great, the food was a little pricey, but worth it and the reasonable ticket price totally made up for it. We were able to sit close to the stage, we could see, and the sound was great. Afterwards we even got to meet the band!

The Young Dublineres were very good. Their music was good and so was the show. Although they could have played one less song on the encore.

The Young Dubliners were awesome as always especially when you consider the crazy, hectic schedule yesterday and last night. The opening acts left something to be desired.

My husband and I took a chance buying tickets to see a group we knew little or nothing about....only what was written about them on the Patriot Place Showcase Live website. In a word the band was "fantastic". From the moment they played their first song to the end of their encore we were moved by the music, the lyrics and the band's incredible energy. We loved them so much we bought their latest CD on the way out. Again, fantastic....we can't wait to see them come back to the Boston area!

These guys can play. From soft, folky ballads to hard rocking anthems, the Young Dubliners are fit to carry the banner of "Irish Rock" for any of the heralded bands in that genre that preceded them (Pogues, Chieftains, Dubliners). They even go beyond that music genre to make themselves more accessible to a broader rock audience in my opinion. Maybe because they are seen as too isoteric with that "Irsh folk rock tag", instead of "punk" or "alternative", younger rock fans think they aren't their cup of tea. They are a talented group of musicians who blend their own band-penned songs with traditonal Irish songs that are somehow more accessible, fresh and "edgy" to me in their rock style......and Irish music is always alive (and I'm not Irish). The Irish Tin Whistle, the Bag Pipes, the Violin all have prominent roles but this is still rock and roll...make no mistake about it. My favorites were Banshee (Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull actually guests on the studio CD version of this song) and of course...Follow Me Up To Carlo....which should have brought the house down during the 3 or 4 song encore. Don't get me wrong, plenty of peole there were excited (lots of clapping), but a crowd with an average age of 45-50 is likley to be more polite that way. I was surrpised they don't have broader appeal yet to younger audiences (like for example the Drop Kick Murphy's--who actually play a different strand of Irish Rock that's not nearly as technically proficient or musical). There weren't too many empty seats but still far more than I expected in this small venue...maybe they need more promotion

Last night's show was fantastic. Gobshites opened with a clear, quick set and Young Dubs finished up the night with a bang ! The sound was great in intimate surroundings, but I would have liked a few less tables and some dance floor to take advantage of this kind of show. Fans of these bands are not accustomed to sitting patiently while the music is rocking !

It's obvious that these guys have been at it for a while. I had last seen them about 5 years ago and they have grown into an even tight more energetic group. The guest piper was impressive to say the least. Great venue for a show.

Enjoyed both bands fully. Enter the Haggis had amazing talent and put on an excellent show. I had not heard of them before and am now a fan. The Young Dubliners played an excellent, energetic lineup as well (loved the fiddler!), and were perhaps a bit more polished, though they were louder, thus it was at times difficult to hear the individual/unique parts of the music as well as in the opening band. I would definitely go to see both of these bands again, given the opportunity.

The concert was great and both bands did a great job. The Young Dubliners had some problems with their sound settings and had a hum in the background and a bit of feedback, but did a great job. Enter the Haggis was amazing. The pipers (bagpipes for Haggis and Irish Uilleann Pipes as a guest with the Young Dubliners) were both fantastic and added a lot to the music there is nothing like bagpipe and Celtic rock.
