Jeff Tweedy has written and assembled another nice batch of songs and his band on this tour, including his son, Spencer, did a great job getting them across to the audience in this first show of his summer tour. Some will say that, at times, they sounded like Wilco, but knowledgeable fans will hear just how much Jeff influences the sound of Wilco. I'd see this show again if I had the chance.

I have never seen a show like this one. The whole concert was by request. The songs were requested by the first 30 people standing online outside. He played songs from the past 5 years. "Screen Door," a 20 year old song, was from Uncle Tupelo's first album. He was constantly interacting with the audience so the show was not only musically phenomenal, but Tweedy was hilarious, in his own sarcastic way, as well. Both my wife and I felt as though we were watching a living legend...and I think we were right.

Jeff set the tone by opening with Via Chicago. From there he just killed the audience. He is certainly one of my favorite songwriters alongside Dylan and The Beatles.

Haunting moments, great Inside Baseball crowd, high-energy electric-guitar-based songs like "Impossible Germany" felt hollow.

The show couldn't have been more impressive. Mr. Tweedy was personable, fun, and his song selection was impeccable. I never say this, but I couldn't have been happier with the show.

This setting gave a good insight, more than when playing with the full band, into his personality. He was great singing and best when he was mixing in stories. I understand he wants to make it an all request type show, but he said himself, there were "not any songs I would have picked"..."that's not a good song"...he made many references to it. Ultimately, he ought to pick more of the songs he believes will entertain a larger cross section of audience, versus focusing on the people that were standing in line early.

This is the second time I've seen Tweedy solo, both at the Vic for his benefit show. I really think the request-song structure is a really neat idea and shows how personal Tweedy is with his fans. However I think this system has backfired. Too many of the songs I felt were chosen either to try and stump Tweedy, or attempt to show just how insane of a Wilco fan requesters were. Unfortunately this made the show less enjoyable than it could have been. It seemed at times Tweedy didn't seem interested or happy to play some of the older or more obscure songs but he kept to his word and played each one. It was awesome to hear rare songs like Dylan's "Simple Twist of Fate" and other songs like "Laminated Cat" "Someday Soon" and even some Tupelo "The Long Cut." I still think the majority of the audience wanted to hear more core songs. Even if it's nice to hear the rare ones, it doesn't make them better or more fun than any of the mainstream Wilco songs that have brought himself and his band to fame (and I feel most people went to see) As far as Tweedy's performance however, he was stellar. He played each song requested and entertained the audience with his unique charm. Musically he was dead on. He put up with a lot of drunks who felt the need to be obnoxious and in some cases disrespectful. People talked during songs, made rude comments and overall killed the mood in some cases (That whole thing about Jay, who asks things like that?) He worked through all of that and I think he deserves a lot of credit for being such a good sport. Overall it was a great show. However, I feel the request system needs some improvement, and I feel people should be more respectful to an icon like Jeff Tweedy (Especially at a Montessori School fund raiser. Come on people.)

Love watching Tweedy play. His easy rapport with the audience is engaging and made me laugh out loud often. He is both intense and vulnerable, I'd like to have him and his wife over for dinner. I took my 8 yr-old-daughter and she thought it was super cool. I'm going to watch for this show next year.

I just love Jeff Tweedy and Wilco. Tweedy is a great writer and front man. He is fun and engaging and I love his vocals and lyrics. I was smiling ear to ear at this show. Wilco is my favorite band of the day and I feel so lucky that he has claimed Chicago as his hometown and that we get treated with this annual intimate event.

I love all things Wilco and Jeff Tweedy. I was stoked to go see this solo show at the Vic, becuase the venue is so small that I knew it was going to be great but it only lived up to 50% of what I hoped it would be. Overally, his voice and the sound couldn't have been more perfect....I wish I could bottle him up and have him sing live in my house for me every day! And the fact the show was for charity make it even better. UNFORTUNATELY, he let the first 30 people to the show select the night's set list. I really and truly thought his biggest fans would make better choices than what they selected. Nearly all (but a few) song choices were horrible - two of the worst that stood out 1) someone selected a song he wrote for his KIDS school class about a monkey (of all the songs you could pick, really???) and 2) a neil young song (so of ALL the songs Tweedy's written none aren't good enough). It's almost like these fan were trying to be "too cool" and select these obscure songs.... Bottom line, I will of course see Wilco and Tweedy any time he's in town but suggest that he chose his own set list moving foward. Insane insane. I'm just happy the money went to charity.

I was a little worried when I realized that it would just be Tweedy and some acoustic guitars--not that I questioned he could pull off a one-man show, but I had seen another performer of similar caliber do the same thing recently, and while good, after sometime I was bored as the songs became pretty one dimensional. Not so with Tweedy--wow! He really put on an amazing show. Great rapport with the crowd--funny, engaging, irreverent. He did some Wilco songs that are highly produced and multi-layered on the album, and pulled them off with ease. Really great evening.

Jeff Tweedy is...let's face it...as close to a god as there is in music right now. Great show. Only 4 stars because we'd heard they'd been told he would play 2.5 hours, and the show started late and wound up clocking in at 1 hour, 45 minutes. But, he put his heart and soul into it and one after another, each song was bliss. So, put me at 4.75 stars!

I didn't know what to expect from the front-man of Wilco without the band. I must say, I was very impressed. A very intimate show and Jeff Tweedy took every advantage of the feel. Conversing with the crowd after just about every song and looking comfortable as the audience was feeling. Strictly acoustic, the play-list covered a wide range of songs that sounded impeccable in the 1920's venue. He was even able to unplug completely and play to the crowd for a few more songs to close out the show. Sitting in the balcony and with the cooperation of the crowd, it sounded amazing.

What had been billed as an acoustic evening with Jeff Tweedy actually became the live debut of his new project simply titled: Tweedy. The first half of the set consisted of brand new untested material from the upcoming Tweedy album. The second half was solo acoustic Jeff performing songs from Loose Fur, Uncle Tupelo and Wilco (along with a Mavis Staples cover).

Tweedy was absolutely incredible! His performance is worth 6 or 7 stars. The comedian that opened for him was appalling and offensive without any humor to justify it. We left the auditorium until he was finished. There were children in the audience and there was absolutely no indication as to the adult nature of his act. This was an enormous oversight in the part of whoever was responsible for booking.

Jeff Tweedy is amazing. He played about two dozen songs. These songs ranged from Uncle Tupelo and Wilco songs to covers of other artists. He really put his all into each song and his guitar-playing is great. The crowd however was another thing. One guy flashed his camera directly in my eyes. Another guy kept yelling during the whole concert. A family carried on a conversation the whole time. In short, go see Jeff Tweedy if you can, but avoid the Uptown Theater, as it seems to attract rude clientele.

Great show, this is the first time I have seen Jeff Tweedy in concert. He plays with heart and soul in every song. The only downside to the show was the jerk up front that insisted on yelling out. It got so bad Jeff had to address the guy directly and call him out. To anyone going to see a singer songwriter in concert, shut up and listen! Clap and cheer at the end of the song! Yelling out in the middle of someone playing is RUDE, please stop and let the rest of the crowd enjoy the show, its not about you!

Jeff Tweedy is an American poet and should be recognized as one. Just Jeff, no Wilco, and an assortment of acoustic guitars. The sound was excellent for the Mayo Civic Ctr. Presentation Hall space...not a bad seat in the house, really. I had always read that Jeff could be pretty surly and disagreeable onstage, but post-addiction treatment, he is FUNNY! He was sociable, hilariously funny, witty and his banter with audience members made the show unforgettable. I have seen Jeff Tweedy 3 times now, and I would go again in a heartbeat. My first Jeff Tweedy show - won't be my last. I was surprised to see that Minneapolis/St Paul were overlooked in favor of Rochester, and it seemed like a far share of attendees had driven down from Mpls also. Venue was not the coolest, but the sound system was solid and the 'civic' setting actually allowed greater focus on the acoustic performance. Once Tweedy took the stage, he owned it. What a great performer! The setlist covered Uncle Tupelo and early Wilco to the most recent songs, seemingly perfect for fans new and old. I am a newer fan and immediately went home to recreate the setlist and relive the concert. Great show!

After seeing his show in Toronto on Mar 23, 2011, it became evident just how instrumental and influential Tweedy is to Wilco and folk music in general. Stripped down versions of Wilco tunes are simply beautiful. If you've seen Neil Young's acoustic sets live, you will see an eerie resemblance to both style and character. Mr. Tweedy is a legend in the making.

This show was amazing. As always, Jeff Tweedy was incredible. Great set, the vocals rocked, as did his playing. Seeing him solo (or with Wilco for that matter) is like two shows in one. It's a killer show as well as a stand up comedy show. He's so funny. Like my husband said, a solo show with him is truly like 'an evening with Jeff Tweedy'. The ONLY downside was with the venue. The State is a beautiful venue and I love it, but at one point, some people who work there were emptying bottles or something, and it sounded like a recycling center. It was so loud! Although an avid fan for several years, I had never been to a Tweedy or Wilco show (don't travel much). I was THRILLED that Jeff came to the State Theatre for a solo acoustic performance, and the experience could not have been better. He was in top form musically and vocally, the crowd loved him, he was his friendly, funny, charming, and sometimes irreverent self, and it was a night I will never forget. One of the top thrills of my lifetime. I would have gone to see him anywhere in Portland, but that it was the State Theatre made the night extra magical. It's beautiful and intimate, and the seats were very comfortable, plus it was great to be able to take a glass of wine to my seat in an effort to calm down my excitement just a tad before Jeff showed up!

No need to critique Tweedy's musicianship. He's a master of his craft. I particularly enjoyed the way he engaged the crowd. His sarcasm was targeted and on point. "People have to have a six pack I guess so that it can help them figure it out!" His You Tube/blue dot reference was also spot on. Even though there a minority, there's a lot of concert goers who need to be reminded to grow up and to remember why the bought their tickets.

The venue was amazing; not a bad seat in the place. We got pre-sale tickets 4th row orchestra on the right side - AMAZING! The sound was great; Tweedy played a few different guitars with differing sounds. He had a little glitch with his 'old standby' guitar, but all was fixed in the end. His encore was played without the microphone using this really cool guitar with a twangy metallic sound. His banter was engaging and fun. He played many songs I wasn't familiar with but closed with a song (acuff rose) that apparently he's been closing with often this tour. I was so pleased with Jeff's performance. I have seen him in larger venues over the years and his stage persona is now very mature and appreciative. If you don't already listen to Jeff or Wilco his lyrics are thoughtful and poetic; his riffs memorable and fun. This show was a sit down show; as we expected. I love listening to these intimate shows... but I can't wait until the next time I get to see Nels shred.

What an incredible talent this man is. One of the best songwriters out there - in my top three I'd have to say. He has a great voice, a unique guitar playing style, and it all combines into one memorable concert experience. A big Dylan fan who did not know Wilco or Tweedy was sitting next to me at the show - dragged along by his daughter. He loved the performance. So did I. But Tweedy is not Dylan - a lot of similarities, but this man is much better perfomer. I have seen Dylan, so can compare them, but of course that is just my opinion...Anyway, the venue (Orpheum Theatre) is beautiful and had great sound. Orpheum crew was genearlly nice, but did not make the usual allowences for audience reocrdings - had to be done from your seat, so no good boomed mic setups , etc. Oh well..

Saw Tweedy at the beautiful Balboa Theatre in Downtown Dan Diego and it was magical. Not only was the band fantastic but the audience was the best we've experienced in a long time.... Quiet through the thoughtful song of which there were many! Jeff was in great spirits it seemed and the banter between him and random audience was fun. The band was tight and impressive. Jeff did a long solo set and each song was perfection. I love this band so much particularly because they are humble and clearly love what they do. The writing and arranging knocks me out. I've also read some of Spencer's blog writing and its then fun to see him clearly coming into his own as a writer. There is a lot of future great music in his head no doubt! Wishing that Wilco would be in the area when Tweedy's tour ends but so far I don't see that listed! Please guys add San Diego or close, to your Wilco tour. It must be amazingly satisfying to know that you touch so many people with your words and music. Thanks for the countless hours with earbuds and you.

First of all, this was my first time at this venue, and it was amazing. Historic old theater, with all of the old over-the-top decor, great seating without any bad angles, and terrific sound. The Minus 5 was the opener, and they were great. Tight songwriting and rocking performances from the band members! Definitely check them out! Tweedy was fantastic! Such solid songs and arrangements. And Jeff Tweedy was a great front man, even talking about how he's trying to learn to better introduce songs, and clearly having fun. It didn't hurt that the audience was having a blast, too. A great show!

Very enjoyable show -- provided insight into Jeff Tweedy's influences -- especially during his solo portion of the show.

Jeff Tweedy Is seriously the hardest working man in show business and will not let you down the drum work by Spenser Tweedy is solid and detailed this combined with the legendary bass playing of Darin Gray holding it all down. An amazing show and a little something for everyone Rock Band, and acoustic singer song writer. Tweedy covers the new Tweedy album and favorites from Jeff Tweedy, Wilco and Uncle Tupelo. Loved the show and had a great time. Do Not Miss!

I've seen Wilco twenty times over the past fifteen years, but I's never seen Tweedy perform with his son before. In that way it felt more personal. It was obvious how proud he is of his boy and the music they make together, and it was a joy to watch father and son interact. While half the night is reserved for Tweedy songs, Wilco and Uncle Tupelo fans will enjoy the set Tweedy plays solo in the middle of the show that revisits his old catalogue. I went with three friends and we all had a fantastic time.

Originally from Chicago I have been a fan J.T. since his early day and yes I have fond memories of Lounge Ax. As always Jeff Tweedy is a wonderful showman as well as songwriter. It was a pleasure to hear live his new songs along with his son.

The band Tweedy and Jeff Tweedy himself put on a great show. I would have liked to have heard more from the new album instead of the covers they performed near the end, but you can't argue with "California Stars" to end the show. One thing that was frustrating was the number of people filing in to their seats well after Tweedy started playing. Jeez, if it's so troublesome to get to your seats, just stay home and listen to the album! Even Jeff made mention of it and suggested the crowd show up on time for Sunday nights show! In spite of that, it was a great evening of music and was glad to have made the 200 mile journey to see it. Spencer Tweedy is a great drummer, a solid part of the rhythm section.

Curiosity is what brought me to the State Theatre to hear Jeff Tweedy perform with his son Spencer. The songs/sound are different enough from Wilco to make it an interesting concert. Jeff Tweedy, obviously, has lots of music bubbling out of his and it's good to see him be willing to perform with others, or solo, (ala Bruce Springsteen) whenever that seems the best way to go.

I was blown away by the originality and musicality of the new material. As a songwriter I was inspired to work harder! The band was so talented! I want to listen to those songs over and over to learn from them. Awesome!!!

Having seen Wilco countless times, I expected my first Jeff Tweedy solo show to be an intimate acoustic affair featuring all the old favorites and a few surprises. I soon discovered, however, this was not Tweedy, but rather TWEEDY! Yes, Jeff has a new side-project featuring 18-year old son Spencer on drums. TWEEDY sailed through a full set of new songs, with nary a word of exposition. No band introduction, no song stories, and no stage banter at all until song four. Tweedy felt no explanation was necessary for TWEEDY. The songs had a familiar air to any Wilco fan and there were even a couple of nods to Loose Fur and Uncle Tupelo, but without intros, it was often difficult to find the correct aural context. I was slightly off-kilter. Not sure exactly where TWEEDY (or Tweedy) was taking me. The night's apparent standout, "Slow Love," benefitted greatly from an extended verbal intro and the Tweedy-led sing-along kick-off. It was the song everyone was talking about after the show, but it was unclear if it was because the song was so killer, or if it was simply the one we remembered due to the intro. All the TWEEDY songs were solid, but without context, it was often hard to evaluate. Let's be honest, we were waiting for some Wilco and maybe even Uncle Tupelo gems. At set's end, Jeff introduced the band. By the time he got around to introducing Spencer on drums, most of the crowd had already realized this was Jeff's son. We last saw him as a toddler in "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart." Now, having learned many a lick from Glenn Kotche, little Spencer is all grown up and playing in daddy's new band. Like everything he does, this incarnation felt genuine. Jeff has a restless side that he needs to explore occasionally, but his traditionalist streak keeps him from veering too far. Not exactly Wilco...not exactly Loose Fur...fairly far removed from Golden Smog...even further from Uncle Tupelo....TWEEDY offered songs that skewed only slightly from the path. Just enough surprises to keep us listening. After the TWEEDY set, Tweedy returned to the stage alone with just an acoustic guitar and harp. A quick run-through of "Via Chicago" let the diehards know they would get what they came for. Tweedy, not TWEEDY, turned in another full set of old favorites that featured the obvious ("Jesus, etc.") and the unexpected ("Radio King"). TWEEDY, the band returned to close out the set and delivered the biggest surprise of the night: a very endearing performance of Doug Sahm's "Give Back the Keys to My Heart." This song was famously covered by Uncle Tupelo on "Anodyne" and performed as a duet between Sahm and Jay Farrar. I expected a swerve or two, but I did not expect Jeff Tweedy to be singing a song so closely associated with Jay Farrar. After a quick run-through of "California Stars," the band left and Tweedy took to the front of the stage, sans electricity, no mic, no amps, just Jeff, his guitar and a few hundred friends for an old-school run-through of "Acuff-Rose." Fitting, haunting, and wildly endearing at the Ryman, but I've seen it before. I was expecting it. Looking forward to it, actually. Somehow, it didn't have the same impact this time around. TWEEDY the band stood tall during the first half of the show, but it was obvious that the fans were there for Tweedy the man. His acoustic set showed that the Tweedy songbook, in development for over 20 years, is a robust and still expanding work. Tweedy joked that his wife only knows the title to one song ("Pecan Pie") and chided the audience for not being able to keep time, cheering the wrong guitar part in "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" and rushing him into starting a song called "Slow Love," but it was all part of the lovefest. Tweedy let the audience know just four songs into the night that the Ryman was the greatest venue on the planet. And, by extension, Nashville and the fans in the building were the best. It's said in every venue, but at the Ryman you feel the artists really mean it. The crowd reciprocated. This may have been a TWEEDY show, but it was a Tweedy audience.

Jeff Tweedy is among only a handful of artists that could pull off what he is pulling off with his summer solo tour. The first half of the concert was rapid-fire material that NO ONE HAD EVER HEARD BEFORE with the top-notch band, including his son Spencer on drums. The songs were Wilcoesqe but not....Very nice harmonic structures throughout. One, the last one of the first half, was even a sing-a-long of a song, I REPEAT, we had never heard before. A wonderful, amazing first half. Despite attending seven Wilco shows, this was my first Tweedy concert. He did not disappoint. He lived up to his legendary banter reputation. Hearing classic Wilco tunes on an acoustic guitar song by their composer...... transcendental bliss. The encore included the world premiere of this bands version of "You Are Not Alone," penned by Tweedy for Mavis Staples.

The whole band was excellent, Jeff Tweedy's son was great on the drums. Liked the older stuff the best, when Jeff played solo. The Wilco songs cannot be beat.

After a very disapointing opening act, Tweety came on and performed an hour of new material, pausing just long enough to explain that it was all new material and thanking the audience for their patience. This garnered lots of applause as did the introduction of the band members which included Tweedy's son on drums. The solo half of the performance was all familiar WILCO songs, quite worth waiting for. Tweedy's interaction with the audience was typical and entertaining. I laughed more during Tweedy's exchanges with the audience than during the warm-up acts entire set.

Amazing show at a beautiful venue. Not even a brief power outage could dampen the spirits or the performance of a two-set show from Jeff, or a stellar opening act from the Minus Five. Jeff great as always.

Tweedy busted through at least 8 songs off their upcoming album before pausing to take a breath and chat with the audience. The new songs ranged in style from straight up rock to discordant to soft and lyrical. All really solid and enjoyable. Jeff played a set of 8 or 10 solo acoustic (mostly Wilco, a couple Uncle Tupelo) songs before bringing the band back out for the encore. Note to future concert-goers... request songs for your show on the Wilco website... apparently they actually check this to plan their playlist for the night and not many people take advantage of it. Jeff's banter with the audience was highly entertaining once he got warmed up. And his obvious pride in playing with his son was endearing.

Jeff Tweedy played what must be the entire solo album coming out this fall with a non-Wilco band and kept everyone's attention even though we didn't know a single song - at least for the first 50 mins. The band was very good (incl his 18 yr old son on drums), but I couldn't help but think that most of these songs would get an even better treatment played by Wilco. Then he dismissed the band and played solo for 40 mins doing what he called requests, i.e. lots of Wilco songs. Just him and his acoustic guitar. It was all terrific. For some reason the opening act was a comedian, doing stand-up. Besides this being an odd opening act (I haven't ever been to a concert with a comedy opener), this guy was horrible. We went to the lobby after we endured the first 10 mins of his act - and we weren't the only ones. Prob half of the audience was there by the time the break came.
