The Tyminski concert was one of the best musical experiences I have had to date. Set in the intimate Birchmere venue, the performance featured songs from Dan Tyminski's latest release, "Southern Gothic." Unlike the bluegrass style we usually hear from Tyminski, this was Southern rock at its finest, featuring his own compositions. The dark themes of the songs were perfectly reflected in Tyminski's soulful voice and in the haunting instrumental arrangements. While Tyminski did perform his best known song, "A Man of Constant Sorrow," there were no other bluegrass offerings. This may have been a disappointment for some; nevertheless, few could fail to be excited by Tyminski's dynamic and memorable performance.

My husband and I really enjoyed the show. It was the first time us doing that kind of thing and had a nice time. I did like the smaller setting but was surprised that not more people where there. The thing I was upset about was when I purchased my initial tickets I never read anywhere that you had to purchase a certain dollar amount ticket in order to do the dinner as well. When I purchased mine I thought that was what I was getting. This was not the case. We arrive thinking we were getting dinner and it was not part of our purchase. I read the site many times and even printed stuff off and never saw that stipulation. I was a bit upset because I had to pay an extra $40 that I really didn't have. We did end up upgrading the tickets but not happy about it. My husband and I don't get to go out very often because of finances and to have an unexpected extra cost like that was a stretch for us. So I guess my suggestion would be to make sure the public is completely aware that their are different tickets for the show and dinner and just the show.

Amazing show put on at Electric factory by Josh Wink, Nic Fanciulli and the one and only, Carl Cox. Great venue and reasonable drinks. There was just enough room in the crowd to dance.

I saw Femi Kuti back in 2000 and he knocked me out with his musicianship and energy. Twelve years later he's still got it. Keep in mind that he's no spring chicken anymore but that doesn't mean he's not as energetic as he used to be. The other thing that makes his shows so incredible is the diverse crowd. From the young black hipsters to the older white retirees all grooving together, the crowd is a testament to the power of Femi and his backing musicians in delivering a powerful entertainment experience.

The ticket package I purchased for the Kill Hannah New Heart for Christmas event included entry into not only the main show on December 22 but also a private rehearsal and Q&A session at JBTV studios and an acoustic performance at the Crimson Lounge. All three performances, all three nights were, to say the least, stellar. I have always been able to forgive (completely ignore) missed notes or forgotten lyrics in favor of a heartfelt, stage-worthy performance and that is precisely what Kill Hannah gave their fans for this event. If they did mess up along the way, the audience was none the wiser because their stage presence was breathtaking.

These two artists make their guitars sing and cry. They are loud and mean, yet articulate and organic. There are other guitarists out there, but none better the Ford and Massey.

Johnny A and band put on an aficionados geared show last Friday evening. It was clean and clear and absolutely obvious that you were watching a master. During the first two numbers members of my party turned to me and mouthed "Wow"! It was like listening to the album, only louder and with more punch, as should be the case fro all live shows, with the added benefit of improvision. As a long time musician a few things impressed me. The dynamics were beautiful with stops and starts performed with precision. At times the bassist (Jesse Bastos) held down the bass figure with his left hand while filling in diads high up on the neck in support of Johnny's inversions and inventions. Drummer (Ron Stewart) played a rockified jazz approach that punctuated stops and seemed to be joined at the hip with Johnny and Jesse. Very tasty indeed.
