Charlie Daniels

Charlie Daniels

This country and Southern rock superstar is best known for his massive crossover hit, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” However, Charlie Daniels is also a card-carrying representative of the Grand Ole Opry and a member of the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. As a prolific guitarist, singer and fiddler, Daniels continues to sell out concerts and play everyone’s favorite ditty, even after 60 years in the limelight. Part of his appeal is the casual, accessible and down-home quality of his shows.

While Charlie Daniels is an excellent artist and gives a great performance I do have a few complaints. For starter the sound system was so loud we had to have earplugs in to enjoy the music. It also seemed like he had too many instrumental songs. I would have preferred to hear him sing more. Last but certainly not least the $49 ticket price seemed a lot to pay for a 1 hour performance in which he only sang about five songs. The rest was Christmas music and listening to his band play. All and all I really like Charlie Daniels and listening to him sing but I would not pay to go see this show again.

Charlie Daniels gave an amazing concert in Dodge City!!! The Dodge City High School Choir opened with Christmas Songs -- they were great --- Charlie had them come back on stage at the end of the concert to sing two Christmas Songs and The Devil Went Down to Georgia with him......that was awesome!! Love his new song he wrote for the Miltary!!!!!!! Black ICE the instrumental written just for him and his band--------WOW!!!!! What an amazing group of performers!!!

The Charlie Daniels Band was GREAT as expected. We could have done without Colt Ford as he was a Rapper and not very good at it. The others were good but overall it was not what we would call country music nor even Blue Grass. If it was not a fundraiser for the Christmans 4 Kids it would have be a big waste. We did have a good time in Nashville and it is a wonderful city overall.

Very good value for top notch music! Great cause to support, Christmas is about children. I can only image the joy this brings to the children, not only receiving a special Christmas present for themselves but having the ability to buy something for other family members. God bless Charlie Daniels and friends for their dedication.

Let me set the tone for the events that the led to our overall Ryman experience. Anyone who knows me knows that one of my life long dreams has always been to go to the Ryman Auditorium. I am a true country music fan. I have a bucket list of performers that I want to see perform and The Charlie Daniels Band is on the top of this list. My husband is retired military and currently works as a military advisor which requires frequent travel. We moved to Nashville in May after his retirement .I heard of the Charlie Daniels Christmas for Kids concert and purchased two tickets as for the first time ever the timing worked out where my husband would be home to go with me. My husband and I started our evening at 4:30 and valet parked at Hard rock where we had a great dinner. We then walked the couple of blocks up to the Ryman and arrived at 6:30 for the 7:00 show. To my pleasant surprise Charlie had a great group of friends that would be performing with him; Sawyer Brown, Colt Ford, Phil Vasser and Joe Nichols. All of the performers were phenomenal, by far some of the best performances I have seen. During the concert the Ryman security guards addressed the group next to me several times to tell them to sit down or be quiet. This was a group of about 10-15 twenty something s having a few drinks and enjoying the show. These young adults were doing nothing to be disruptive or cause a disturbance in any way. This by the way, coming from someone who was sober and would normally be the first to tell you if someone was being obnoxious. I thought to myself, geez this is a concert since when can you not stand up and cheer for your favorite performer or sing out loud to your favorite song? Apparently there were some Debbie downers in the back that couldn t see very well and had told the security guards, which is what led to this whole chain of events with security harassing these kids all night. Yes, It was harassment because the security guards stood at the end of the pew, pointed their fingers and quite frankly caused a disturbance themselves by being such an overwhelming presence. I say to the folks in the back if you can t see well than stand up, clap your hands and enjoy the show ! Now for the conclusion of the evening, it s about 9:30 all performers except for Charlie have been on stage. I say to my husband that we should check with Hard Rock to see what time their valet closes so that we can be sure to get our car. Turns out, The Hard Rock closes at 10:00p.m. So my husband dashes out, runs the few blocks to get the car, finds a new parking spot by the Ryman and runs back in so he doesn t miss the main act ‘Charlie Daniels . He is stopped by security at the entrance who says sorry, no re-entry once you leave My husband replies that he had to go get our car out of valet and that his wife is inside and that he really doesn t want to miss Charlie perform The security guard responds with no re-entry and turns his back to my husband who now stands outside for the last 40 minutes of the show and misses the entire Charlie Daniels Band perform. What a disappointment as I sit in my seat looking around for my husband to return so that we can experience this life long dream together and he never returns. Believe me, I appreciate that there is security at the Ryman, I as a patron like a sense of security. But this must be matched with a level of common sense. Thank you Ryman Security for ruining our evening and for crushing my childhood dream…………… Jen O Brien Mt. Juliet, Tennessee

I was so pumped to see the CDB, but then was incredibly disappointed. The concert only lasted about an hour and 20 minutes. About 30 minutes of that at least was taken to just play instrumental things. When he sang, it was great. He just didn't do much. I doubt I will ever see him again due to this concert.

This was Dirty Old Richard's 25th time to see the Charlie Daniels Band. Yes, I keep track of that sort of thing. This was probably the best yet. Maybe the band just gets better with age and experience. Maybe it had something to do with the first class venue, which appeared to be sold out. CDB concerts pretty much follow the same pattern, and this one followed suit, with one exception. He takes the stage with his fiddle and plays a couple of rousing songs to start the show. He opened this time with Redneck Fiddlin' Man and Drinkin My Baby Goodbye. Then he switches to electric guitar and goes through a few hard driving Southern Rock numbers, stretches out and jams on a couple, and always includes at least one or two from that overlooked but wonderful mid 70's period, which many fans don't seem to know ever existed. Tonight he included In America, Wooly Swamp, the instrumental jam piece Black Ice, and my favorite CDB song of all time Saddle Tramp. Saddle Tramp has been a fixture on the setlist the last few years, at least when I've seen the band, and I hope it stays there for years to come. This is a long one, with a lengthy jam session that is a little different each time. Charlie slows things down a bit when he brings out the stool and acoustic guitar. He played Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison, Long Haired Country Boy, the American soldier memorial Let Em Win It or Bring Em Home, and Amazing Grace was tonight's gospel hymn. The band has a really inspiring version of this song. When the stool is put away, it's time to pull out the fiddle for the closing segment and turn it all back up a notch. He closed with a long, blistering version of The Devil Went Down To Georgia. The "Devil's" part of the song was unbelievably hot. (I think if I were the judge the Devil would've won tonight). His band is one of the most technically proficient, some of Charlie's songs are deceptively complicated and a challenge for a good musician. They cover a lot of genres in one set. But just like the opening "Redneck Fiddlin' Man" refers to the diverse skills of the title character, Charlie "showed 'em he could play it all." The one exception to the formula tonight was the absence of songs sung by other members of the band. It would have been great to hear the band's longtime keyboard player "Taz" DiGregorio sing one of his bluesy numbers that have graced so many CDB concerts and previous albums. But you can't have everything from forty years in one 100 minute show. The Millenium Theatre at Gold Strike Casino is one of the best of the Casino venues. A comfy, intimate theatre with no bad seats and excellent sound everywhere. The folks at this place are first class, and I was pleased with the absence of drunks and loutish (not enthusiastic) behavior. Only complaint is that some of the smoke from the Casino was drifting into the theatre.

This was one of the most energizing shows I have ever attended. The amazing talents of all of the band members was showcased in every number. Charlie Daniels, arguably the best fiddle player around, is also a very talented guitarist. Something I did not know until this show. The band is a well-oiled machine that never misses a beat and we had a GREAT time.

Mr. Daniels still has it - it was a great show! He did all of my favorites and his musical abilities are simply amazing! His band is great - I liked the instrumentals - my spouse did not - the drum solo was fantastic! Some of the crowd was obnoxious - drunks aren't my favorites and there were a few. One in particular complained about a handicapped gentleman in a wheelchair and they were moved up into better seats! They had no more than sat down -after climbing over 2 other people - they got up again to go to the bar! I think IP could do a better job with the handicapped seating - so these folks can enjoy the show also - without disturbing the drunks. My spouse is handicapped and I know what I'm talking about. There were many seats front row center empty - security allowed anyone to sit there after the show started. I would have gladly paid for 2 of those seats had I been given the opportunity.

This could have been an awesome concert, as of course the CDB is very talented. However, their sound people should really take some time to sit where the audience sits when they do their sound checks. The base player and the sub woofer were particularly loud, and drowned out the vocals. Perhaps in an outdoor arena the sound level would have been fine, but at the IP, it was just too loud to appreciate it.

Amazing drum solo's. The words were unintelligible in most songs. Talented musicians but a combination of bad sound and pour vocals made the music sub par. The seats were annoying as we had people in chairs in front of us talking. Lots of ushers should have jumped in and fine something.

Charlie Daniels performance was ok. Most of the concert was devoted to "solos" mainly by the drummer, which went on way too long. Went to hear Charlie Daniels, not 10 minute drum solos. Could have used more Charlie, more fiddle, less church.

I have never been so disappointed in a concert. Between the multiple "jam sessions" when Charlie was off-stage and his band played loud rock-n-roll; the 10 minute drum solo; the horrible songs written and sung by his keyboard player and bass guitarist; it was all I could do not to get up and leave. Charlie played the fiddle for 3 songs and actually sang in less than half of the music played. He lost a LOT of fans over this concert- including me. I would have at least expected some country music and fiddle playing- this was a rock concert. And watching him drink wine behind the drummer while his band "jammed" didn't help the situation.

I had seen Charlie once before so I knew we were in for a great ride and it was! I love how unapologetic ally American he is and I love how he uses the place he is in to stand up for what he believes. He's the kind of guy you feel like you could have a beer and an enjoyable conversation with or pick and sing deep into the night! I've always loved him for his music but I also love him for the man he comes across as. Anyone would enjoy one of his shows. He is also very proud of his talented band and it shows. They all seem to respect each other highly and that is wonderful to see.

I actually live in St. Louis and drove to Branson for my daughters birthday persent she wanted to see Charlie Daniels live. It was awesome she was able to meet the piano player and guitar player. Was not told until we got there if we would of gone on the Charlie Daniles website and registered we could of printed off passes to go backstage and meet him so she would of had the best present ever. She will do it one day, I hope. For now she did have the best gift for her 10th birthday. CD and his muscians were flawless. I loved the Jazz they played. They could have jammed with "The Allman Brothers"l I also enjoyed the rock version of the "William Tell Overture", the rock version of the hymn: How Great Thou Art", and several cover songs from deceased hero's of CD's. However, CD doesn't need to do covers of other artists. I came to see CD do CD songs. CD plays a mean guitar but I came to see him play his fiddle. He only opened and closed with his fiddle and signature songs. I came to hear more than 2 of his famous songs. He played "Long Haired Country Boy" and "Devil Went down to Georgia and I think one more. I was very disappointed that was all I got to hear. I won't go see him again.

Everyone should see Charlie Daniels at least once in their lifetime. He loves God, his music and his band. This was an amazing performance! My fiancé said he played the fiddle like no other, and the Devil went down to Georgia was his final song and he went out on fire. He captured the audience with his stories between songs. Charlie Daniels fills his music with life when he sings and you can tell how much soul he puts into playing his music. The only thing I would change if I could... My husband and I attended this benefit show with a variety of artists primarily to see Ty Herndon. We saw him 16 years ago in California and have always enjoyed his music. We fully support his recent decision to come out and thought that he performed even better at the Ryman than when we saw him years ago, He seemed free, happy and confident...and that was so wonderful to witness. His performance with Jamie and Andy was great...the three of them sound fantastic harmonizing. They each sang one of their hits and also a Christmas song. It's great to hear that they are touring together. My husband also enjoys bluegrass, so he loved seeing and hearing the Roys. Overall it was a great show and all to raise money for a great cause..,,Christmas for Kids!

Marshall Tucker Band played a great show, Can't you see always is a highlight. Charlie Daniels Band was good, he changed some of the words to his songs to project a cleaner image. Like he said If you don't like the way I'm living then leave this long haired country boy alone. So his attitude hasn't changed, yet he felt compelled to change the words from I will take another toke, to I will rope another dog. It was difficult to understand him sometimes because he didn't seem to articulate as well as he did in the past. He did play one hell of a version of Trudy which was real nice to hear. His religious stance was not endearing, but he still is a hell of a rocker. Just don't understand why he feels he needs to clean up his songs.
