What a voice, what a stage presence. Fantastic. Unfortunately, Tommy Castro opened for her. And did so at a punishing sound level - whoever was working the sound board for them was a total hack. After enduring that (there was a rush to get earplugs!), the evening became unforgettable.

I don't know who is responsible for determining a band's volume, but I have no desire to be subjected to a miked up bass drum that sends an ear-splitting and chest pounding thud out with every damn beat--along with the volume of the other instruments being too loud also--as was the case with the Castro show. Does someone really believe that can be a pleasant experience?? I couldn't stand being in the room after 2-3 songs worth of that pain. It ruins the whole experience. Thankfully we could leave and return after Castro was done causing permanent hearing loss to hear a soul-blues diva always at her best with a fantastic backing band at a volume that was perfect. Bettye is a inadequately heralded treasure in the blues world--a true queen who's not a shouter. Her voice and charm can warm your soul like nobody else.

After hearing Tommy Castro play I was grateful that he was only there as the first act. The sound mix was terrible and it was so loud, you couldn't understand a word he was singing about-so no I wouldn't recommend T Castro, I was not a fan. Now let me tell you about Miss Bettye LaVette, oh my god, what an incredible concert experience that was. What a gift she is to music. Such a powerful singer, goes right to your soul and leaves goosebumps behind. She could have sang anything and it would have been ok with the crowd. Simply Amazing and I am glad she finally got to Milwaukee and hope she returns again and again, can't believe no one brought her here before now. I hope everyone gets a chance to see MIss Bettye once in their lives.

We enjoyed the whole night except was TOO loud. Didn' t know Tommy Castro but will be on the lookout for them. Did book the tickets for one song, "I was Born By the River" that Bettye sang two days before Obama's Inaugration and tho Bono had performed, Springsteen, etc.,etc., on my DVR just replayed her over and over. So was of course dissapointed when she didn't sing that. She is a great performer but wish she would do more classics. Enjoyed it.

This was the third time we have seen Tommy Castro perform. We make an overnight trip from Louisville KY to Indy just for the show. We were very excited to see this great band perform. Tommy's high energy full room performance fills the room with energy.

I had heard he was good, that's why we went. But Tommy and the band are so much better than good. Tommy has and excellent voice. He plays a gibson firebird like another blues favorite of mine Kal David. His style reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughan. The musicianship of every member of the band is incredible. They're and uptempo dance party band and a whole lotta fun.

Venue is beautifully restored, wine list at the bar was so-so (beer was good), security team was cool (except for the chick w/the attitude), sound was awesome, Marcia Ball and Tommy Castro rocked, honky-tonked and sung the blues like nobody's business! My girlfriend and I had a blast.

I have seldom seen such a high-energy performance by a female singer / piano-player who kept the audience at a solid rockin' pitch for more than an hour and who hardly rested for more than about half a minute between songs! Her encore, on the other hand, about life in the "old Louisiana" had many people seated near me in tears at the end of her masterful performance. Did I enjoy it... well, YEAH! I was so amped after hearing Marcia that my wife and I did not even stay for Tommy Castro, and did not miss it.

The Uptown Napa Theater is a fantastic venue. The sound system is incredible. There are cup holders in the seats to hold the wine sold in the lobby. There is free parking close at hand. I will definately drive up there from Berkeley for more events.

The Uptown Theater sound system needs improvement or in need of more experienced sound engineers. During Marcia Ball's act, a guest saxophonist played and she could barely be heard. It was obvious the poor red-faced girl was blowing her horn but the audience couldn't hear anything. It wasn't until she played along side the Tommy Castro band towards the end of his show that we finally got to hear how remarkable and talented she is. Aside from this mishap, the TCB put on a pretty good show.

A last minute decision took me to the Uptown Theatre in Napa Saturday night for a concert with Marcia Ball and her band opening for the Tommy Castro Band. It was my first time at the Theatre and it was well worth the drive from Sacramento. Although I have seen and enjoyed both these bands before, this night was special. The musicians were individually outstanding and even better all together. The highlights for me were the addition of Bay Area saxophonista Nancy Wright as a surprise guest and the last few numbers with all the members of both bands onstage together, trading solos and doing amazing call and response with each other.

One of the best performances I've ever had the opportunity of seeing. The band is tight and unbelievably talented. Loved how each musician was showcased during the performance. The only drawback is that this venue has no where to dance without blocking the view of audience members and this is definitely one band that makes you want to get up and out of your seat. An area for dancing near the front of the stage would make this venue unbeatable. Marsha Ball and Tommy Castro blending their bands together at the end of the evening was definitely something worth hanging around for. Kudos all around!!!!!!

Amazing show! Tommy Castro and Marcia Ball gave an excellent performance Saturday night at the Uptown Theatre in Napa. The show went on for over 3 and a half hours! It's clear Tommy loves to entertain his audience and get them out of their seats dancing. He is such a fabulous show man. What a great entertainers he and his band members are. I highly recommend seeing him (and Marcia Ball) if you haven't yet. You'll get your money's worth and then some!! He is off the chart!
