This performer is unbelievable--singing cabaret songs German, French, and English. There were many Weill/Brecht selections, selections from Marlene Dietrich, Brel, and Piaf, and a very intelligent commentary throughout the performance. Ms. Lemper has a wonderful stage presence, fluid movements, and great dramatic flair. Her accompanists were talented, and I very much enjoy the sound of the bandoneon, a concertina (squeezebox) used in tango presentations among other musical genres.

The beginning portion of part one was delightful except for a rather loud and tinny sound system. Unfortunately the title was not as expected with the Berlin portion devoted only to Kurt Weil....Mack the Knife and nothing to Dietrich or others of that genre. We did not stay for the 2nd half after the intermission as the listings were too modern with music of the late 20th century, not the Caberet we thought we had come for. While leaving there were others who were complaining about the selections as well...."not as advertised"!

Didn't appreciate the Vogler Quartet playing the Schullhoff music by itself. Some pieces boring and downright awful. The meandering selections from Germany to France to Russia to Israel to Argentina was an interesting design -- though does NOT support the title of the show "Berlin Nights/Paris Days." I was expecting primarily songs that one would find in both of those cities historically or contemporarily and more of the sultry, cabaret type. The title of the evening was very misleading. And I don't understand why Yiddish, Spanish & Tango pieces were selected, given the title of the evening. Stylistically, I think that Lemper's music and performance are better suited for a different and more intimate venue and not that of a concert hall. Additionally, she seemed to lack vibrancy and energy this evening. I saw her at an outdoor concert in a square in Berlin a few years ago, and she was dynamite. Not on Thursday at Royce Hall. I think that she is best when she sticks to German and French standards and popular pieces. Thursday night was a mish mash.

Ute Lemper w/ Vogler Quartet & Stefan Malzew brought the house down! Ute is poor talent! She never ceases to amaze us. Unbelievable performance by all!

What can one say about this graceful, multi-talented artist? She is unique, yet steeped in a rich tradition of the chanson and cabaret. She is not only still beautiful physically but also intelligent and thoughtful. She sang in six languages, the pronunciation of which was impeccable, even in Russian. Initially, there was the usual commotion and even some talking in the audience, but once Lemper started on her journey across the world and the last century, Royce Hall went quiet and the people were clearly transfixed.

First, Ute Lemper herself was awesome ! She's in great shape, looked beautiful, her voice and performances were very high level. In my opinion, she should play is her back band, this gig was playing with Vogler Quartet & Stefan Malzew. Vogler Quartet's performances also very good, but didn't feel energy or passion in them. To play those stuff, I prefer musicians to expose their feelings a little more. There were an intermission, 2nd half of the show was much better than 1st half. I wish I could see her at smaller venue, not a hall. Or, if she play at hall, she need to have move movement on stage. Because of those quartet guys were sitting wide on stage, Ute couldn't move much, mostly just standing at one position.
