Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are regarded as one of the very best live rock acts of all time. From humble New Jersey beginnings in 1972, they grew in popularity to become one of the true icons of American music. Hits such as “Born In The USA” and “Dancing In The Dark” cemented Bruce Springsteen as one of America's top popular rock vocalists. He's known for being one of the hardest-working acts in the industry, and concerts can regularly last three hours or more and tours often last years rather than months.

After the long ride from the train, and a $98 cab ride, the journey was about 5.5 hours. Hanging with the girls and meeting old and friends, a Bruce concert is where everyone is happy. Bruce gives his all 100% of the time. Thank you Bruce!!! See you down the road.

Awesome concert! Played a lot of songs from his first two albums - some of which I've never seen in the previous 12 or so concerts I've attended.

This was my first time seeing The Boss and what an incredible concert experience. Bruce's show stands alone when compared to any other concert I've seen and I have seen bands that include Paul McCartney, The Who, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, etc. just to name a few. The show was just phenomenal with song after song, Bruce and Stephen's guitar playing were incredible as they tore into long licks with each song, and of course the Jack Clemons sax performance is only second to Clarence . The performance was thrilling with Bruce performing a medley rendition of Good Golly Miss Molly, Devil In A Blue Dress, and Shout. The show lasted for an incredible four hours !

This show was the best I have ever seen, and I have seen Bruce several times! The cover of Like a Rolling Stone was possibly the best rock performance ever. They should record this one!

Having attended many Bruce shows in the NYC area since 85, I have to rate this show as one of the best I have been to. From the opening salvo of "Badlands" Bruce and the band rocked all night. Max's son was awesome! How this band puts out the energy night after night after night is both a wonder and their legacy as the legendary E Street Band!

Without doubt, the best concert I have ever been to. Sure, the guys are a bit older. But they just rock it. Nils kicked some ass with incredible playing and mind-blowing spinning jumps during 'Youngstown.' Clarence decked it out in black and gold and just rocked the stage. Steve was his sublimely weird and talented self. Max kept the beat with the best. And Bruce just owned the arena. AMAZING.

When I was 15, I heard Born to Run . . . and my life was changed forever. I had only recently discovered the vast treasure trove that is Rock and Roll music, and I was attempting to sift the good from the bad. Born to Run made it easy. A simple lyrical concept, delivered from the heart with a street poet's perspective, and wrapped in a musical blanket that seemed to provide limitless complexity and texture, while managing to avoid the overblown pomp and circumstance that characterized too many of the would-be rock anthems of the time. This was different. This was unlike anything I had ever heard. I bought the album, which I learned was his third. I bought the first two. I attended my first rock concert, at the Spectrum in Philly in '76 (which happened to be the first time Bruce ever played an arena). His music provided the soundtrack for my college years. Darkness on the Edge of Town was my touchstone for the summer of '78, bracketed by four more Spectrum shows (two in the spring and two more in the fall). I was hooked. This guy, nearly 10 years my senior, was somehow speaking TO ME. How did he manage to do that? As I grew older, so did Bruce . . . and so did his songwriting. I continued to connect with his musical and lyrical themes, and I continued to attend his shows albeit fewer and farther between, during my career-building and child-rearing years. After 20 shows, sometimes in the rafters, sometimes first level, occasionally a seat on the floor, I finally landed a GA ticket for the final show of the North American leg of the 2009 Working on a Dream tour. My first chance to be in the pit and so I read all I could about the procedure. A random lottery system; it was now all up to probability and dare I say fate. The afternoon of Saturday May 23, over 1100 numbered wristbands were distributed. I was there with a friend from high school (with whom I'd recently re-connected after a couple of decades), and a friend of his from college. The first wristband number was 3001; we received 3047, 3048, and 3049. We spent a few hours waiting wandering around, eating sandwiches, and greeting other wristbanded fans, all of us hoping to find truth in the line faith will be rewarded. Shortly after 5:30 the starting number was drawn. 3042. It took only a few nanoseconds for us to realize that we'd be among the first 10 people into the arena. We lined up and went through a few checkpoints, waited some more, and then we were finally brought in. We staked out a spot near the center of the stage, on the outer corner of the platform that juts out directly in front of Bruce's microphone stand. The waiting continued. I thought about the other shows I'd been to, about the music Bruce's music that had accompanied every step of my life since I was 15. Now I was about to turn 50 and none too pleased about my approaching birthday. Something about this night was making me forget that, however. The roadies and technicians continued to prepare the instruments, tape the set lists to the stage, and test all of the microphones. At one point, Bruce's guitar tech walked right out onto the platform, holding one of Bruce's guitars. Here's my speech, he began. When Bruce comes out here for 'Born to Run', remember that THIS IS NOT A DRUM. It's a guitar. Don't bang on it. STRUM it. Thursday night, they broke the switch, they broke the antenna . . . please, just strum it. And don't turn the knobs. Please, I'm begging you. He turned and walked backstage. I looked at my friends and held my thumb and forefinger a few millimeters apart. We were just THIS CLOSE to Bruce Springsteen's guitar tech! I said, jokingly. The reality of what was going to happen just hadn't quite sunk in. At about 8:24 the lights suddenly went down and we saw the band take the stage. Those familiar opening chords to Badlands, this tour's opener-of-choice, were followed by the lyrics that are somehow as relevant today as they were 30 years ago, Lights out tonight, trouble in the heartland . . . . There he is. RIGHT THERE. Is this real? These are the words that articulated what I've so often felt, and he's RIGHT THERE singing them. Talk about a dream, try to make it real, you wake up in the night, with a fear so real, you spend your life waiting for a moment that just don't come. Well, don't waste your time waiting. He wrote this in his 20's and it speaks to every age. Don't waste your time waiting, indeed. But is this real, or am I dreaming it? Next, an even OLDER tune . . . one of his fantasy-metaphor-narrative masterpieces, Spirit in the Night. Bruce falls back against the microphone stand, sliding down to the floor as he begins, Crazy Janey and her mission man . . . . Wireless microphone held in his right hand, left arm lying by his side. Now he's standing up and continuing to sing. He walks forward, down two steps from the stage. Microphone still in his right hand. Left hand hanging at his side. He continues forward, straight towards us, and steps down onto the platform, as he sings, . . . anybody wanna go on up to Greasy Lake? He's standing a few inches from me, left hand still hanging by his side, just above my eyes. I reach my left hand up and clutch his hand. NOW it's real. It's real in a way that maybe nothing has ever been real before. The song, the place, the moment, have folded my life in half. I'm 15 again. But I'm 15 with the wisdom of an additional 35 years of life experience. And at the same time, I'm nearly 50, but with all of the enthusiasm and optimism of a 15-year-old. With this perspective, I experience the rest of the concert. I find depth of meaning that no 15-year-old, nor any 50-year-old, could appreciate. But the two together, collaborating, can see it clearly. Outlaw Pete follows, and then a spectacular tour debut (not on the planned setlist, even) -- Something in the Night. And I can see EXACTLY what these two songs have in common: we cannot undo these things we've done is the exhortation that causes Pete to face his true inner self. And in the bridge to Something in the Night we have Nothing is forgotten or forgiven, when it's your last time around. That is, you shouldn't waste your time waiting it's up to YOU to make your dream real, and that's one thing that nobody can take away from you. And with that freedom comes a responsibility, because you and you alone must face the consequences of the choices you make. At 15, we don't think too much about those consequences. But at 50, perhaps the worst thing we can do is to think TOO MUCH about those consequences. We grow up, older and perhaps wiser, but we've gotta hold on to those dreams and act on them. Mister I ain't a boy, no I'm a man, and I believe in a promised land. Anybody wanna go on up to Greasy Lake? HELL, yeah!

Having seen Bruce Springsteen in concert a few times, I wanted to share the experience with my 16 year old son. When we walked in I asked him if he wanted a t-shirt and he said no, when the show was over he wanted one! We both had a great time, and I'm glad I took him to his first "real" concert. We listen to all kinds of music, but there are only a handful of true legends and music icons like Springsteen and I think it's important for kids to see them - to see what real rock, by real talent sounds like. See Springsteen and you'll never be disappointed!

We went in thinking we weren't going to see much of the show because we had seats backstage. Were we wrong. Our seats couldn't have been better. We had a clear view of the stage and didn't realize how much Bruce faces the back. Jay Weinberg was in the house that night and he is unbelievable (and cute). I went home telling my daughter that she should date him. Can't wait to go back in October.

Has anyone ever said that Bruce is anything but amazing?! He puts on a show unlike any other entertainer. The audience is literally exhausted from the excitement by the end of the show. You can't help but marvel at how Bruce can maintain that level of energy for so long. You don't have to be a die hard fan to love his shows. If you have never been to a Bruce Springsteen concert, find a way to go. There is a reason his shows sell out in minutes everywhere.

Every time over the past few years that I go to a Bruce Springsteen concert, I wonder if it will be the last one because he cannot possibly keep doing this forever. But somehow, there is always another one. And I am never disappointed. The Mellon Arena concert on May 19, 2009 was great. The idea of taking requests for old songs by other groups has re-energized the audience. They love the idea and the number of signs held up keeps growing from concert to concert. Bruce and the E Street Band are as lively and joyous as ever. They clearly have so much fun performing and that spills out all over the audience. There is no better rock and roll band in the world.

The last time I had seen Bruce was in the fall of 1976, when he was in support of Born To Run, and it was a great, great show. I have continued to be a loyal supporter and fan of The Boss for his whole career and thus, my expectations for this show were, predictably, high. To keep this review short and succinct, Bruce and the band were energetic and enthusiastic, but this show had the worst sound mix of ANY CONCERT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!! I felt sorry for the band, but at times I think a jet engine roar would have been a clearer sound than what we heard (I was stage right, in the second section up from the floor). And my ears were still ringing the next morning. I've been to a few rodeos, but this was unnecessarily loud, and unforgivably muddy. And, yes, at $100+ a ticket, this was an extremely expensive unsatisfying concert. Also, the song selection was ultimately disappointing-no Thunder Road, Jungleland, 10th Avenue Freeze Out....there were many more...but we got to hear Havanagela (sp?)!!!! Oh well...

Another great show with Bruce & E-Street. Amazing guitar riffs between Bruce, Stephen & Nills. Bruce did a nice job of telling a story of his music by the set list. At almost 67, on Sept. 23rd he still is able to play a four hour show!!!!! I hope we see him and the band back on the road again soon, now to await his book and new album being released on Sept. 27th.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band was a fantastic concert of epic proportions! Where else can you see an music act play with no intermission for 4 hours and 10 minutes? The band sounded great, the guitar solos were amazing and Clarence Clemons nephew, Jake, was awesome on sax!!! I have to give props to Ticketmaster and Gillette Stadium for emailing instructions on parking and entry rules into the concert for anyone unfamiliar with stadium concert procedures. It was very smooth and a fast entry. They let us in parking and the stadium a bit early, even before 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm, their stated opening, so the lines moved quickly. The merchandise was plentiful and we purchased the main River Tour t-shirt (100% cotton). Bruce strayed a bit from the River Tour set list as this was the last concert of the tour, and his rendition or Jungleland, Rosalita and Shout were just like the old days in the 70's, performing the songs just as he'd written them, not switching them up at all. That is one thing about Bruce, his songs always sound the same as the originals in concert, which is the best thing about his concerts. Bruce came down off the stage quite often and shook hands, even signing autographs with the mosh pit while singing. He even ventured onto the floor several times, standing on someone's seat while he continued to sing and sign without even a pause. But the best thing he did was grab all the signs people brought. He took them on stage, and filtered through them. When he found what he wanted, he held it up to the audience, then they played that song. It was stupendous!!!!! It must be said, shame on New Englanders for arriving so late, Bruce could not start on time (7:30 pm). He did not start until 7:50, but as the concert was supposed to end at 11:30, he went until 12 am with fireworks toward the end. As he said himself, when he thanked us for coming and supporting him, "you are here to testify that the E Street Band is breath taking, ground breaking, history making"...And they were!!!!!!

Probably the best time and most fun I've ever had. The Boss didn't stop for over 4 hours but it didn't feel too long at all because of how entertaining he is. Awesome and a great touch for the leader of the E-Street Band, Mr. Bruce Springsteen, to perform solo to open and close an awesome show! Having been a fan going way back to the early 70's and seeing my first show a few years later it is always a delight. I really enjoyed what seemed to be a chronological tour of music of Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band and the skills and interaction amongst the members was awesome. The direction of Mr. Springsteen and his ability to perform, involve the crowd, and give time for the entire ensemble to shine is a tribute to his confidence and faith in his crew. I really enjoyed this show as I have many others thru the years!

From the first song, New York City Serenade, to the last tune, Jersey Girl, Springsteen gave it his all before an ecstatic home audience that knew each of the 34 songs he performed. His high energy, musicality and showmanship were simply amazing. The E Street Band sounded terrific. Jake Clemons did a beautiful job playing the saxophone parts of his uncle, the unforgettable Clarence Clemons. From the first notes of NYC Serenade with Roy' beautiful piano lead in, Bruce and E-Street were spot on in the zone from the get go to deliver on this operatc number. (...Singin',...Singin'...) The next 90 minutes of the show was a mind blowing feat of increduosity as none of the next series of songs dated past 1974, a real tip of the cap to us old school fans! (50+ bruce shows and counting, hopefully!) He did most of his 1st two albums and the show was not even at the halfway point! Bruce and company then proceeded to run through a chronological progression of his catalog but with such verve and vivacity you would think his 37th birthday was coming up and not his 67th! Incident was performed hauntingly with that beautify melodic piano coda. A platform and path were right in front of us where Bruce passed by in front of us 2x!. A beautifully rendered version of Jersey Girl complete with fireworks capped of an EPIC night with the Boss!

I didn't expect the energy but Bruce and the Gang blew me away going from one awesome hit to the next without a break for just over 3-1/2 hours! Playing favorites from the River Album, Badlands, Born to Run, Greetings from Asbury Park, Born in the USA and more! About 33 songs in all. Totally involving the audience, he kind of freaked me out when he body surfed from half way across the floor crowd to the stage, not missing a beat or lyric! He brought folks up on stage to dance and have fun, in particular a couple of darling little girls that were not afraid to stand on stage and belt out a tune or play guitar! Bruce was so gracious reaching into the audience time and again to take requests and shake hands. We got to know Clarence Clemons nephew, Jake, who proudly and effectively took the big man's place!

Everyone knows that Bruce puts on awesome concerts, and this one was no different, except that he actually outdid himself by playing just short of FOUR HOURS!! His longest show ever in the U.S. featured "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town," a powerful rendition of "41 Shots (American Skin)," and fireworks at the end to accompany "Jersey Girl." Bruce's energy is boundless, and it was almost as though he was trying to prove he could outlast his audience--many of whom left at the 3-hour mark, I guess because they had work the next day. But they missed out on an encore that included "Rosalita," "10th Avenue Freeze Out," "Bobby Jean," and a 10-minute version of "Shout." The band was in top form too and did a great job keeping up with The Boss. All in all, it was a great party that only Bruce can throw.

Once again Bruce & The E Street Band showed their endless energy during this 3 hour 52 minute show. This was his longest show in the USA and his 3rd longest ever. Lot's of dancing in the aisles!

This was my 100+ Bruce show and it just amazes me how this man does what he does. It's never the same setlist, the energy is non-stop & the tightness of the E Street Band is still tops in RnR. If you've never been to a Bruce concert you need to go before he calls it quits.

Another outstanding Springsteen/E Street Band concert. I've been to several shows over the years and I love how Bruce seems to be having more fun now than ever. The highlight of this show for me was Jake Clemons sax solo on Jungleland. Wow! It was so surreal that I could feel Clarence Clemons' presence. Although we lost Clarence in 2011, his presence is forever felt and Jake Clemons did his uncle proud. As for Bruce Springsteen, what can I say. At 66 years old he just keeps getting better and better. I enjoyed Patti Scialfa harmonizing with Bruce. It is obvious how much in love they still are after more than 25 years of marriage. As for the rest of the E Street Band, I couldn't imagine a Springsteen concert without them. They are all absolutely phenomenal. Rock on!

Best and longest Boss show I've had the pleasure to see. Dead center seats in the 3rd tier were fine with the massive screens to see him and the band. The band were in fantastic form and totally rocked the night away. Bruce, I'm in awe of you and your commitment to your fans. You really work for us and give us a command performance every time. Thank you to you and the ESB. Keep on blowing us away!

The E Street Band and the Boss put on another memorable show in their return to the U.S.! They played for just short of 4 hours and rocked all night! I have seen Bruce and the band at least 15 times and always come away fully satisfied that I got my moneys worth. Still haven't heard Thunder Road live yet, but I'll keep coming back. I bought the tickets as an anniversary gift for my son and daughter-in-law and they accompanied me for a very enjoyable night

What could be better? I see Bruce whenever I can - usually in the tri state area - would love to see him in Europe but have not done so yet - that's a bucket list life event! Loved, loved, loved the show in Brooklyn and I also saw him at MSG and Prudential Center on this tour. The sound was fantastic, the venue was just the right size and if there's any truth to the saying you get better with age, Bruce confirms this for us. He is amazing, talented, sexy, appreciative of his fans - a class act all the way. A legend who I love...CH

After being a fan for forty+ years, all I can say is Bruce and the band continue to bring it night after night. This is no glory days tribute to their former selves. No. This is a well oiled, hard working, rock and roll machine. The musicianship is brilliant, Bruce is the finest band leader around. The Brooklyn Night 2 and final stop on the River Tour was beyond phenomenal. I was on the rail in the front row of the pit and was surrounded by die hard fans who made the experience true perfection. I feel so lucky to have been part of that journey and I can't wait for the next time Bruce brings it to Brooklyn.

I've seen Bruce many times over the past 20 years, and three times on The River tour. This show at Barclay's on 4/25 was the final show of the U.S. leg of the tour, and it was hands-down the best concert I've ever been to in my entire life. I had a GA ticket, and was selected to be in the pit. There's nothing like seeing your lifelong idol perform 2 feet in front of you. At one point during the show, he grabbed my hand during a song. I HIGHLY recommend Bruce Springsteen concerts......they do not disappoint!

Absolutely incredible show 3 hours 32 minutes. after the full river set I thought he was going to blow the roof off of the place ! Some rarities played tonight and the sign collection was back. Multiple audibles compared to what was on the original set. Recording breaking night at the Barclays center in front of the largest crowd there!

Fantastic show, can't believe he's still doing 3 1/2 hours straight. What fun! Also, Barclay's Center was cool, didn't feel like 18K people and they were pretty loose about letting fans wander (unlike MSG security). Great time!

The good: Even though seats were expensive I feel that I got my money's worth as they played for three and a half hours! There were no breaks or intermission only brief pauses on occasion. Bruce still sounds very good and has amazing energy on stage. The band was tight as you can imagine since they have played together for decades now. Max was just a machine on the drums as he really couldn't stop for any rest whereas the guitarists had breaks depending on the song. Jake while not his equal did a great job standing in for Clarence on sax. With James Brown gone Bruce is the hardest working man in music. The bad: It was Loud in the arena, as to be expected in a rock concert. The problem was that the sound engineer had the EQ adjusted into the painfully shrill range. It made the vocals a little hard to make out at times. That really took the experience down a notch. So I would recommend bringing a pair of ear plugs in case you encounter the same situation. If you put them on loosely it should attenuate the highs and make for a more comfortable listening experience.

Took my 74 year old Mother to see "The Boss". We had seats with nobody behind us that were added and were in a good location stage right lower section. Mom wasn't happy about paying $4 for a cup of water but I explained to her it's that way these days lol. Bruce and the E Street band sounded great the entire night and put on 3+ hours of almost non-stop music. I was expecting them to take a break and was surprised. It was a fun concert with audience interaction when The Boss walked through the crowd on the floor a few times and even crowd surfed back to the stage from the middle of the floor that they had sectioned off. We had a great time and highly recommend section 105/106 for easy access to seating.

The L.A. Memorial Sports Arena is an iconic building Weldon Beckett designed (along with the Capitol Records tower and many others in So Cal) so it is sad to see it go. But the E Street Band and its BOSS are taking it out in style! Great to see commemorative posters and beer cups lauding The Dump That Jumps Goes Out in Style! When the three shows end, he will have played this venue 37 times more than any other in L.A. As to the show, starting with an unreleased River outtake to welcome you to the upcoming album in it's entirety, a good move and welcomed new song, then moving into The River double album was a real treat! The additional vocals of Patti, Nils, Soozie, etc. al. made many of the quieter songs "flesh out" and sound new and fresh (i.e.: Stolen Car, Wreck on the Highway, The Price You Pay, etc.). The arrangements were stellar and the sound great, until the second greatest hits and encore set. That was a little muddy and appeared as if the volume had been raised, but nonetheless, just another over the top, amazing performance by the well oiled machine that is the E Street Band! They hit the stage at 8:15 and concluded the encore "Shout!" at 11:45 so you wonder, how does this guy and his band play 3.5 hours at age 66 and look like he could keep going?! I guess the trainers and nutritionists really do pay off! If you are in So. Cal. and missed the three shows, and IF there is a second leg of this tour returning to L.A.; one word: GO! You will not be disappointed! Five Stars, kids!

I'm not sure if it was because Seattle rockers were in the audience (Eddie Vedder,Kim Thayil) or if it was because this may have been his last West coast show with the legendary E Street Band but... Bruce kicked it in to high gear that Thursday night and never looked back. After he completed his masterful performance of "The River" (8-10:30) he then embarked on a 2nd concert altogether(10:30- Midnight). He collected signs from the audience and did as many requests as he could (I think more than any other leg of the tour?) I've been to quite a few concerts in Seattle and always have that thought ... "will Eddie Vedder come out and sing as a guest?" Well, as you know he did and sang "Bobby Jean" with Bruce and the band... it was perfect. Yep, perfect night.

After putting up an energetic performance in Portland, Seattle was where Bruce was in rare form. It marked my 7th time seeing The Boss. A whoppin' 35 song setlist that clocked in at 3 hrs 42 mins long! Second longest show of the tour behind the final Sports Arena show in LA! If this will be my last time seeing the ESB, it would make a very fond farewell.

My ears are still ringing! What fun. We were at Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's Portland stop on The River Tour last night. What a powerhouse performance. I've seen four Springsteen shows over the last 35 years and this was the best. These musicians haven't lost a step and the music was non-stop. Below Springsteen warms things up on his vintage Telecaster. And Steven Van Zandt, Bruce and Patti Scialfa blend harmonies before an adoring audience. It was a night to remember.

The last event before the LA Sports Arena is demolished was Bruce's River tour which he performed back in 1980 at his 1st performance there. He prefers this arena because of the ambience and acoustics. We were lucky enough to win the lottery and stand in the pit area. The show lasted nearly four hours and I happened to bring one of my daughters who never saw the boss live. Well you can only imagine the excitement and memories being able to see the boss from the pit and at the LA sports arena for the 1st time. Absolutely amazing and unforgettable experience.

Every time I think I have seen his best, he out does himself. I don't know any 40 year old musicians playing for nearly 4 hours straight, much less a 66 year old being accompanied by mostly 60 year olds. He and the E Street Band truly are legendary. I am going to miss the Dump That Jumps but, I eagerly look forward to seeing where he next plays in Southern California. He and his band are absolutely amazing. I saw Bruce for the first time 36 years ago on The River tour in LA. I brought my 15 year old daughter to the show, since she has grown up on his music. There were many people of all ages there, which proves his music transcends generations and will continue to do so in the future. What can I say that hasn't already been said, it has been 23 years since I last saw Bruce in concert at the Milton Keynes Bowl, England, he hasn't lost anything from his performance over the years. Excellent!! This is the 4th time I've seen him play and every time he has been exceptional with the value for money he provides the audience. I read before the Saturday concert that some had complained about the sound quality in the Sports Arena, well yes, it may not be the best acoustic venue around but The Boss sure did make the 'Dump that Jumps' rock this evening.

Almost four hours of his greatest music. The highs the lows brought me back to another time from when I was young. The sound system was amazing you could here every note and word even from the nose bleed sections. Highlights of the concert were when Bruce crowd surfed back to the stage while singing Jungleland, bringing up a woman from the pit that had been to 300 concerts and dancing with her, and bringing up another guy from the the pit and playing guitar with him, but the best part were the last five or so songs that were the biggest hits and singing along with them. This was s night I will never forget. My wife and I are both from New Jersey but now live in California and he brought Jersey to LA for just a few hours.

Springsteen and the E street put the younger artists to shame. They bring it and keep you on your feet for over 3 hours. The crowd was unbelievable and Bruce did not have to sing but he did and with his best voice ever. The e-street band was on top and rocked the Blue Cross Arena. The only thing is the seats. We paid top dollar and got the tickets on Ticketmaster and were in the nose bleeds. Luckily the venue is small and Bruce is larger than life. What can I say? Bruce and the E Street Band never disappoint. This was the first time I've heard them play The River album straight through. Mostly slow songs kept most of the audience paying attention except for the two young women in front of me who spent the whole concert talking non-stop and playing with their cell phones to utter distraction. If Bruce had played his usual concert of a few songs from a set list and different songs thrown in every night to mix it up--and more fast and loud songs to hold the audience's attention--I think it might have been a better experience for all. As it was, I was up and down, standing and sitting, more than I ever have at a Bruce concert (I usually stand for the entire show, dancing and singing along). This night, the energy level in the audience was low and except for the pit folks, many sat through most of the show until Bruce finished The River songs and launched into an encore of rockers.

Springsteen shows are always fantastic experiences, and Albany's 2/8/16 show was no exception. Of the 40 plus shows I've attended, this one was easily in the top 3. We won the GA lottery and took our places along the center stage for 3½ hours of incredible music. The band was sharp, the sound balanced, everything clicked. Arrangements for some of the songs on The River were changed, resulting in a deeper emotional connection in experiencing the ebb and flow of the music's collective message about the growing up and growing old(er). Musicianship was superb. Nils Lofgren's guitar work was brilliant, Steve Van Zandt's backing vocals and stage presence were a strong counterpoint to Bruce. Jake Clemons has found his own instrumental voice, and it is grand. And, Gary, Mighty Max, sister Suzie, Charlie and Roy not only made great music together, they looked like they were having a blast. What a night, what a show, what a guy!
