From the moment Mariza walked out on stage, it was amazing. It was such an honor to hear her sing. She is incredible, very humble. And the interaction she had with the audience was exceptional.

I always loved Mariza although I don't understand Portugues you don't have to because her voice is so mellow and enchanting and the Portuguese guitars are mesmerizing. This is what guitars are suppose to do. The evening went too fast and I didn't hear all the songs I was hoping to hear. The lighing was a little to low for me but loved the fact that I was so close I could see the faces. I I loved her little skit of having audience participation. She came back for an encore when the crowd cheered for more. Disapointed she didn't shake any hands though and quickly left. I would of loved to just touch her.

This lady can sing. Any emotion is within her range. Surely i would have enjoyed it more if I understood Portuguese. But I was not the only one there who didn't know the language, and we all seemed to love the show. Now, I start looking for CDs.

Mariza not only has an impressive voice, she is also an exquisite artist who knows how to engage the public, and has a wonderful band. She provides what some people would call I think an "eclectic experience", as her show is far and above the usual commercial. Slightly on the negative side I found the venue (Lisner Auditorium): most bothersome it was that at least for part of the show the instruments were amplified too much, and her voice had a lower volume. Then I think the venue was a bit too big for Fado, and it looked kind of cheap and poor. The ticket price was low however, so I can not complain in the end. What the venue had right it has been a very clear and crisp sound for the acoustic instruments, and quite nice lightning of the stage (this might have been Mariza's though).

First time seeing this fantastically talented singer. She has such a grace and easy-going demeanor with the audience. Her voice is nothing short of amazing. The musicians are some of the most talented I've ever heard. The Portuguese guitar was simply beautiful. All-in-all a wonderful performance. Looking forward to her next visit to the area - I wouldn't miss it!

I went to this concert more out of curiosity and because I knew very little about Portuguese music. What I got was far more than an introduction to this genre. Her voice was powerful and true, her stage presence and audience interaction at a high level, and the overall performance just superb. I'd go to see her again without a minute's hesitation. .

Mariza is amazing. Her presentation of Fado music is lively and emotional. She involved the audience in the upbeat pieces and grabbed them with the sadder ones. The musicians who back her up are masters of their instruments and the Fado drum solo is one of the most energetic that I have ever seen. The audience, comprised of all ages and nationalities, gave her several well deserved standing ovations and kept her on stage for an extra half hour.

Where are those divas who bring drama and presence to their beautiful voice? Why do so many contemporary solo singers need to be an acrobat to garner the attention of the audience? Look no further, Mariza may be the queen of fado but she is also the diva for our time. In addition to her musical yet explosive voice, she is an enchantress. You will not be disappointed.

Being the son of a Portuguese born mother, I had an advantage of being able to understand the words that Mariza sung in our native language. But by no means would this be an obstacle to my fellow concert attendees. Mariza's performance was so full of passion, life and vitality that a knowledge of Portuguese would not be needed. Her music transcends cultural boundaries, I've had the pleasure of seeing Mariza twice at the Berklee Performance Center and at this concert she was so comfortable that the music flowed from her body and soul onto the audience. I could go on and on, but this review could not do this performance justice, not only her, but her fellow musicians were at the top of their game. Mariza makes Portuguese people proud, for through her, our music has once again become world recognized, not since the great Amalia Rodrigues stunned the world with her performance of "Barco Negro" has "Fado" become appreciated and understood. I thank Mariza for her continued efforts to fuse our traditional music with new and innovative beats and rhythms and thank you for a performance that I will never forget.

Mariza has a great stage personality, a wonderful and powerful voice, and stunning looks. The performance would have been amazing had it not been over amplified. The highlight of the evening was when she put aside the mike and was accompanied by two acoustical guitars.

Mariza is the real deal when in comes to singing FADO and her voice is very authentic. Not only is she talented, she is also very engaging with the audience. In her performance at BPC she had the audience laughing, crying and standing up to hear more. Great Performance. My only disappointment was with the staff of the BPC. I have not been a performance where the audience was allowed to come and go at will.So in this case people were walking standing and looking for their seats while Mariza was on stage singing- very disruptive. This alone will make me reconsider visiting the BPC again.

Folks think of Fado as funereal and depressive. Mariza puts a new spin on the Fado, she is upbeat and modern. So personable. I got the impression she speaks several languages. she was able to speak to the multinational audience from Spain, Venezuela, Poland, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Columbia, Mozambique, and of course America. She was so gracious. I traveled from Connecticut to see Mariza, it was worth the trip to Boston. I fell in love with the Fado when I traveled to Portugal several yrs ago.

I will see her whenever she is around the New England Area......She is the best portuguese performer ever. The strength in her voice will send chills through out your body. This had been our second Mariza concert that we went to this year and the first concert we went to was in New Bedford. The sound system was alot better in New Bedford than at the Berklee Performance Center. In New Bedford you could hear every single word she sang, everything she said, every guitar string that was played. At Berklee is wasn't as clear due to the sound system but still worth going to see her.

The whole program was exceptional. The musicians could not have been more skilled. Mariza is currently the Edith Piaf of Fado. The only small criticism is that the second drum solo sounded out of place. Excellently executed, but too much out of the Fado context for the overall production. The hand drum solo was the best I've ever seen.

Mariza's stage presence is nothing if not hypnotic. One wonders how a voice as powerful, melancholy (as in sweet, her words), full of life's tragedies, wonder, joy and compassion can come from such a tall slender body. It does, however, and we are all bask in her elegant talent. Add to the mix, three wonderfully talented, unassuming front men and a drummer possessed of the spirit of Keith Moon and you have a mix of the ethereal and audacious, both raucous and divine. Kudos to DU for bringing this incredible woman to Denver to allow, at least some of us, the opportunity to kneel at the altar of fado and learn.

I have been a fan for about five years and I have watched Mariza's talent and confidence expand. She has gone from speaking very little to having an excellent command of the English language and using it to not only communicate with her audience but to sing in English as well. She is a vibrant and talented performer who uses humor and a subtle sophistication to engage with her audience. Her star quality revealed itself in her ability to effectively convey the passion and intensity that is fado with seemingly little effort. It is not necessary to understand the lyrics to know the heart and soul of fado, love, joy, sadness, and fear, when listening to Mariza's incredible voice and amazing style.

Mariza has an amazing voice and connection with the audience, and a wide variety of songs. Highly recommended!! One criticism though was that the show was announced with a special participation of Bebel Gilberto, which actually drove me to buy the ticket. However, Bebel was not there. When I asked the theater staff, they could not explain to me why; they didn't even know she was supposed to participate. Mariza is an excellent showman and held the audience for almost two straight hours. She is a very good singer and balanced off Fado with more modern songs both in Portuguese and English. Good sense of audience which she involved and a good sense of humor. Good story teller and liked being on the stage. A very nice evening. Overall it was nice, but I wished Mariza would have sang more lively tunes. I know she's a fadista, but one or two fados would've sufficed. Mariza sang songs from her new album "Mundo" (World), covering not only fado but also milonga melodies. She is a fantastic singer both in Portuguese and in Spanish. Besides being a fantastic singer, she engaged the audience in many occasions, both in Portuguese and in English, explained the meaning of the songs, what traditional fado is, and at one point sang from the audience, engaging fans and even kissing a little boy from the audience, after speaking with him in Portuguese. I have never experienced an artist so candid and approachable. Truly unforgettable.

Mariza put on an amazing show. Her voice is so soulful and she's a true icon in today's music scene. She brings a high level of passion to each song. I love how she engages with the audience. You feel like she's performing just for you. I highly recommend that you see Mariza live. It will be one of the best concerts that you will ever get to see.

As expected, Mariza's concert was exhilarating. Mariza is one of, if not, The leading Fado singers today. She is accompanied by three wonderful guitar players and a drummer and together they have created a magical evening. Newark is the home of the largest Portuguese community outside Lisbon which added to the intimacy of the evening. The warm reception she received from her ex-patriots rubbed off on the non-Portuguese speaking people in the audience. An evening to remember.

Mariza put on an unforgettable show. Not only is she a fantastic performer with an amazing voice, but she was also very personable with the audience. I loved how she interacted with us, especially the young children. And while she mentioned a couple of times that her English wasn't so good, I thought it was fine - we had no problem understanding her! My only critique (if you can call it that) was that I wish she had sung a few more of her famous fados; but, other than that, I thought she was fantastic! I'm hoping to see her again the next time she comes to our area of the country.

What a great performance offering a combination of simplicity, beauty, enchantment, and inspiration. I was also surprised how Mariza managed to accommodate portuguese and english speaking audience. Great performance and great interaction with the audience.

Waiting to see Mariza in concert for some time - finally, she's here!!! We traveled from DC and Florida for an extended weekend to see her perform. The seats were in the 4th row from the stage, so we got to see her up close. Her singing is amazing, with lots of feeling. Mariza engaged the audience, almost made us feel like we were guests in her huge Living Room - lots of Love. We really enjoyed the show and finally seeing her in person. The musicians that were with her also receive our compliments.

Interesting to hear Portuguese fado. The audience should receive a proper program, with lyrics and translations. The two virtuosi guitarists were the best, worth the ticket price even if there was no singer.

Mariza has a tremendou voice and connects wonderfully with the audience. The audience had, off course a lot of Portuguese people who vibrated with the sound of her powerful voice and the meaning of the words, however, there were many others that despite not understanding the words were equally has moved with her music. It was fantastic!!
