The Psychedelic Furs

The Psychedelic Furs

PSYCHEDELIC FURS IN CONCERT:Immortalized by John Hughes' use of their song "Pretty In Pink" for his 1986 film of the same name, the Psychedelic Furs stand as one of the most commercially successful bands to originate from Britain's fertile late '70s punk scene. From the moody post-punk of "Sister Europe" to the soaring new wave of "Heaven," the band covers all their classic material at their nostalgic live shows, perfectly recalling the cinematic grandeur of the decade's pop music. On the road in 2013, the band treated fans to vintage guitar tones and frontman Richard Butler's iconic voice, building excitement for their 2014 tour dates.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Formed amid the UK's burgeoning punk scene in the late '70s, the Psychedelic Furs released their self-titled 1980 debut LP to chart success throughout Europe.

Three classic bands were listed to perform and the Fixx were only given 30 minutes. The venue opened at 7:00 and they were done at 7:30. We saw 3 songs from our seats and that was all.

The Psychedelic Furs are always an amazing concert to be a part of, but, when you put them in a small club it makes it even better. The Canyon is a club in the spirit of the Sunset Strip. Up close, small crowd and a great sound. Why would you pay hundreds to see a band in a stadium where the band is a group of small dots on an enormous stage when you can spend $60 and be ten feet away. The Furs put on a great show again. Interacting with the crowd and playing all of their hits. It was a great band playing great songs in a great venue. I am looking forward to seeing them again later this year at the OC Fair.

Richard Butler and the rest of the group are as good or if not better than their glory days of the 80's. Butler's the ultimate showman, can't wait to see them when they return to NY in October.

First time we have seen them live, but long lived Furs fan. The show last night in Atlantic City was great.Butler sounded phenomenal and everyone up on stage seemed to be having a good time. We both loved Alive (For Once in My Lifetime) which we had actually never heard before. That song is epic and for the life of me wondering why it never went to the top. I can't complain with the set list but personal favorites you wish you could have heard (notably for us, Highwire Days). Dumb waiters was excellent as well.

I think the band were a bit tired and didn't have the umph to put on a great show. They didn't play many of their hits and were not very friendly with the crowd. Oh well, can't win-em-all.

WELL, IT LOOKED LIKE ALL THE 80'S PUNKS HAD TURNED INTO HEAVY-SET, POLO-SHIRT, CHINO-PANTED PEOPLE LOOKING FOR A NOSTALGIA FIX..........HOWEVER, LUCKY FOR THEM, THE FURS DELIVERED THE GOODS.......RICHARD BUTLER LOOKED IN GREAT SHAPE (AS DID THE WHOLE BAND), AND SOUNDED JUST AS GOOD -- ALTHOUGH HE HAD TO OCCASIONALLY REFER TO CHARTS TO REMEMBER SOME OF THE LYRICS.........THEY PLAYED ALL THE USUAL BIG HITS, BUT I WAS HOPING FOR SOMETHING A TAD MORE OBSCURE, FROM THE EARLY DAYS IN PARTICULAR......I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED TO FIND THAT THEY PLAYED , WITH THE EXCEPTION OF 1 OR 2 TUNES, THE ENTIRE TALK-TALK-TALK ALBUM, MY PERSONAL FAVORITE.......THEY NICELY RE-WORKED THE SOUND BY USING ONLY ONE GUITAR, AND BROUGHT THE HORN PLAYER FRONT & CENTER FOR QUITE A FEW SOLOS.........I WILL DEFINITELY ATTEND THE SEPTEMBER H.O.B. SHOW IN SEPTEMBER, AND EXPECT THAT THEY'LL PUMP THE VOLUME !!

I was a big fan of the P Furs when I was younger... and I've always enjoyed going back to their music over the years. I had the opportunity to see this show and I was somewhat apprehensive to buy the tickets, mostly because I feared being disappointed by a band that may a shadow of its former self. I'm glad I pushed those concerns aside, because these guys were phenomenal. This was probably one of the most enjoyable shows I've be to, and the band is tight... the new faces in the line-up (particularly Mr. Williams) are amply talented and deliver on call. I've got to say, they sound even better live than on albums. They cranked through a ton of songs, quite a bit of material from Mirror Moves and Talk Talk Talk... they really got into it. I would absolutely see them play again and seeing this show has definitely made me gain a renewed appreciation for their music and musicianship. Just excellent.

As always the Furs were fantastic! Loved the small venue, there wasn't a bad seat in the house. It was a little mellow compared to their other shows because there was no general admission (standing room) near the stage. First come first serve but they had tables instead. But that didn't take away from how they performed! They still have it!

I thought the Furs' show at Patriot Place was awesome. Richard Butler was in good voice and ran through about 20 songs, although with little chatter with the audience. He is a terrific front man. The audience was disappointing in numbers, but not in enthusiasm.

They delivered the goods and lets us escape back to the 80's with their core classics. The Furs have refined their class act and surrounded themselves with exceptional talent. We loved the lead guitarist and the saxophonist both of whom played with a lot of soul. Richard Butler is a cross between David Bowie and Mick Jagger (with 2/3 being on the Bowie side - which I think is awesome). The bassist laid it down and had an intense stage presence. Nice balance of the more obscure tunes and deeper works properly peppered with their classics.

First off, Tom Tom Club opened and was great, I didn't realize that they were that good and didn't remember too much about them from back in the day. They had a DJ, DJ Ginseng, who was quite fascinating. Psychedelic Furs were fantastic, they looked good and were high energy. They sounded great and interacted with the crowd at times, and for the most part played the songs I wanted to hear. Things were going along great and all of a sudden they said 'goodnight' out of the blue. We figured they come back with a 5-6 song encore but only came back with 2 more songs and left some of their hits on the table. I would estimate they played for only a little over an hour. In short, since the tickets weren't all that expensive, I would consider it a good night out. Another half hour of music would have made it great.

Really a great concert with two super bands. Loved the Tom Tom Club especially the standards. The whole band was most gracious after their act signing shirts and hats etc. and taking the time to take pictures. I got a great one with my daughter which made her very very happy! Psychedelic Furs were also really tight. I especially thought the tenor/soprano saxophone player really wailed! The Professor

The Psychedelic Furs concert was great fun July 1st at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale. The group put forth energy with an edge, with enthusiasm and having a great time being onstage. It was incredible seeing such a top notch world wide band up close.....was like being invited to an exclusive private party with one of the greatest bands ever performing right in the living room! Those in the crowd were a mix of fans who know the Furs from the early days now in their 50 s, to those 30 years younger, some of whom were kids of the older group. One thing for sure....nobody felt old that night! The group started with their oldest songs, and moved through to the most recent. Each song segued into each other with the tenor sax player jamming with perfect flow throughout, helping to give the band their unique sound. If this band comes to your town, be sure to pick up a ticket and head to the party. You ll have a blast!

The band sounded as good as they did in the 80's! Fun show - they seemed to really enjoy themselves (especially Richard Butler who had a great grin on his face for much of the 2 sets). I love the intimacy of the Showbox vs a huge concert @ an arena.

The Furs came to town to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the release of Talk, Talk, Talk, but from the energetic performance of Butler and company you'd guess they just finished recording it. The greatest hits second set lacked some of the energy of the first, and I wasn't the only audience member surprised and disappointed that they didn't perform "The Ghost in You." Overall a great show.

We saw them both nights, Friday at The Canyon Club and Saturday at The Music Box. Saturday's show was awsome. They sounded just as good as ever! Richard Butler and his brother Tim were very personal with the audience. It was an amazing evening and the best part of all was when Richard took the time to sign my Daughter's picture frame. The look on her face was priceless! And days later it's all she talks about........how cool was that?!

They opened with the iconic "Love My Way" which had the Fillmore hopping. Richard Butler seemed happy to be performing this time around (unlike other shows). He did his signature dance moves. What was really great is that the lineup includes a sax player - Mars Williams, who wailed like no sax I have ever seen. No guitar-synth sax, it was the real deal. Tim Butler worked great bass to the ontime pounding drums, Very tight. Thanks to the sax, they performed many early songs, including "Sister Europe" and an encore of "India." Also a few from Talk, Talk, Talk. Also played Pretty in Pink, Ghost In You, "Heartbeat", "President Gas", "Heaven" and a cover of a Roxy Music's "Pyjamarama." The crowd really heated up with the hits and you could feel the vibe.

The show was great. It was wonderful to see these guys having such a good time. I feel very fortunate to have gotten to see them. After the show, my friend and I waited outside for autographs. We missed a couple of the guys, but the guitar player took our ticket stubs into the bus and had them autographed by his missing bandmates. That was unexpected and really sweet.

Sax as incredible. The House of Blues is one of the best venues I've every been to. Great sound and seating choices. Maybe the best 'retro' act I've ever seen.

The Psychedelic Furs show was unforgettable. Richard Bulter's stage performance and voice, the sound from the band, the SAX solos, WOW!!! They pleased the crowd with plenty of hits. The Plaza was packed when SWR came on, and I've never seen a NY show filled to see the opener. Really great night. :))))

One of the best 80's bands around, The Psychedelic Furs played at the Trocadero in Philadelphia on Wednesday night, October 7th. As usual, they did not disappoint. Playing a mix of early classics (President Gas, Pretty in Pink, Heartbeat) and later hits (Believe), the band proved why it is still highly successful after almost 30 years. Richard and Tim Butler, et al, were warmly greeted by a packed house, and rewarded their fans with a truly amazing show. Encores of She is Mine and Forever Now brought down the house, and the Furs left everyone wanting more. They are a spectacular band in their own right, but when live, they are unmatched.

Shaun Ryder, a legend both on stage and off was so amazing to see live (and alive!!). Most people would have thought that drugs would have consumed him by now, but his voice helped people return to a time when Happy Mondays ruled the Manchester Club scene. This concert made me go out and rent "24 Hour Party People" to see exactly what was the Happy Mondays history. The songs were legendary and the ability to hear Shaun live was a privilege. As for the Psychedelic Furs, I was already lucky enough to attend their concerts as a child growing up in NYC. The soundtrack of "Pretty in Pink" was my awaking into the world of indie music. I always enjoyed their performances in the past and I wasn't disappointed again this night. The only sad point was the fact that the venue was not filled. Those that did come, like me, knew the lyrics to all their songs.

Furs are a great band with some decent hits, but the singer hasn't aged well and it detracts from the great music. The Fixx put on a great show albeit way to short. Bit more cordial to the audience than the Furs, singer can still hit his notes, wish they'd been the 2nd act and X the headliner, give the Furs 5 tunes and send them on their way...

I should preface this by saying the venue, Pacific Amphitheatre, was awesome. It's such a great place to enjoy a concert outside. We bought tickets to see the Psychedelic Furs with special guests the Fixx and X. The Fixx played for less than 30 minutes which was very disappointing. We then waited for the next band to set up which took a while. X played for nearly an hour and a half and it was obvious so few people knew their music. We then waited over a half hour for the Psych furs to set up. The stage had been set and they took another 10 minutes to come out on stage. They played for less than an hour. They played so few of their popular songs and it was obvious with the audiences reaction, how disappointed everyone was. Overall it was a very painful experience. The energy and momentum was killed with all the stops and starts. I've been to many triple band concerts there and never felt that huge lull between the bands playing. I wish it could have been different.

Probably will be our last time seeing both bands. We really paid to see The Fixx as in the past they were amazing, but found out they were the opening band! Didn't get to play long and did not sound very good, they also seemed annoyed that they got cut short. Psychedelic Furs sing the same songs in the same order. Leave the stage and wait for their encore applause and come back and play Pretty in Pink. (as always). Can't review X as I am nto familiar with any of their songs.

A triple line-up with some of the best music ever written. The Fixx kicked off the night with a solid set of hit after hit! They looked great, they sounded great and for those of you that missed them, you missed a lot! It would have been great to see them do another hour. There was a lot left for them to perform, but, it was really great to see them do what they do best! The Church followed with a mellow set of rock as they took us past dusk into the evening. They played their one hit and filled the stage with a rich, British vibe before Brexiting for the Furs. The Psychodelic Furs. What can you say about the Furs except sensational! The band was spot on with their sound, the vocals were amazing and they seemed genuinely happy to be playing in front of a very enthusiastic crowd. Reaching out often, giving high fives, interacting with the crowd. The only I wished is that it went on longer. A great night of music at an intimate venue. Thanks to everyone involved for a truly wonderful night of music!

This was the seventh time I've seen the band, going back to the early 80's. I also once met Richard Butler in JFK, November of 2007 (exceptionally nice, shaking my hand three separate times). This particular concert in Cleveland was just as great as anything the band has delivered through my 35 years of loving their music. I sincerely hope they keep going!

As 80's fans, we were impressed with the band, sound acoustics, and venue. Impressed with the Psychedelic Furs! Thanks for opening with "President Gas", especially in these times. The stamina and energy was awesome. Richard Butler's voice is still amazing. Tim Butler's macabre demeanor was fun. And, the sound of the saxophonist was spectacular! Thanks for a great show!

Perfect intimate night with my favorite bands! Everyone sounded amazing, every seat was perfect, perfect set lists, and cold beer. It was a lovely and memorable evening.

My husband and I went to HOB to see the Furs for our anniversary. I wasn't sure how they'd be after all these years, but they SPANKED! And not only were they fab, the opening act "The Technicolors" rocked the House down. To top it off, HOB employees found out it was our anniversary and really treated us right. It is now Tuesday, and my husband and I can't stop talking about what a great weekend we had. Thanks again to all for one amazing show. NOTE TO XRT PROGRAM DIRECTOR\u2026\u2026I think you should put some Technicolors songs in your rotation (how about "Sweet Time" or their version of "Wicked Game"?) I predict they will be a hot band in the near future!

The Psychedelic Furs performed at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall July 25, 2013. They were amazing. Spacehog opened the evening with a chugging, rocking set. I had heard a couple of their singles during college and thought they were pretty good. Spacehog also played songs from their newest album. The Psychedelic Furs set was amazing! The band truly has mastered the art of the live performance. They sounded fantastic considering they have been making music since 1979. Richard Butler's voice is timeless; he sounds like he did back in the 80s. Mars Williams ripped it up on the sax! The Furs set was impressive. They played some of their well-known favorites and also delved into their early catalog. I can't wait to see them again the next time they stop in Florida.

Great show! Lots of energy from these guys after 30 years. Saw them in 82 and aside from a change in hair color and length, I couldn't tell the difference.

Really cool show. Richard Butler was in rare form, still got that unique voice. The encore (India) brought the house down.

It was the best show I have seen in years! 36 hours later and I am still thinking about it. They were worth every day (year) I had to wait since the last time I saw them.

Great line-up even if it was a bit rushed. P-Furs really engaged with the audience. X was awesome as usual and the Fixx played a short but very energetic set. Only complaint, the seats at the Pacific Amp are particularly uncomfortable.

We expected to see the Psychedelic Furs yet they played only 1 song I recognized and they were on stage for not even an hour! A total rip off! *X* a punk rock band I have never heard of, they were horrible, they played for almost two hours and the. The Fixx played tnithing I recognized! The entire night was a waste of money! Also rude people vaping in front of us!

I went to see X. X was great. The Psychedelic Furballs were a bore ... completely forgettable music, the singer has a range of four half-steps, and except for the 2 or 3 "hits", everything sounded the same.

Show started at 7 PM it all went well. Parking was fine when I was seated in the middle of section 6. The bands were tight, loud, and fantastic. They played their oldies and had lots of fun.

The Fixx opened, and as usual they were great. Next came X, and they were freakin' great. Last up was the Psychedelic Furs. I have seen the Furs many times over the last 10 year and they have had a number of serious issues with the band... Horrible sound was the biggest problem, followed by the loss of their original guitarist, and then Lead Singer Richard Butler began looking tired and sluggish, unable to sing and perform. However, during this last show, they seemed to have gotten a handle on the problems and have returned to great band they had been! Loved the show!

Not the band I remember from when the was growing up. The sound was distorted and very song sounded the same. and as far as X was concerned why didn t you play all your best songs? You were the reason I drove 3 hours in traffic :/

I have seen The Psychedelic Furs twice at this venue and both times they were amazing! They sounded awesome and put on a great show. What was odd that the promoters had the Fixx open and then X? That was odd and X played way too long. I would rather have more of The Psychedelic Furs than X but whatever aside from that the show itself was awesome and would highly recommend.

The Fixx and X were both great. The Psychedelic Furs sucked. I was expecting so much more from them. Their music was mashed all together into a bunch of noise. His singing was horrible for all but the last two (most popular) songs. If he can sing the last two songs we ll, why couldn t he sing the other 45 minutes that way? Maybe they were having an off night?

The show was great, the band sounds unbelievable and flawless as they were from the start decades ago. I can t say enough positive things about the venue, House Of Blues Las Vegas. The staff is great. They have been helping me and many other disabled people with ADA seating for a couple years now. Always very nice and helpful. Job well done!

It was a good time! They played all five of their Hits! The band was not as "tight" as I would have expected them to be. I kind of got the feeling they were there to just play and get it over with. They did not really engage/connection with the audience at all. All and all it was a good show.

I was soo glad I decided to go see the Furs after missing out for years and they sounded phenomenal. If you're on the fence, buy the ticket and you won't be disappointed. Richard voice sounds just like it did 30 years ago and the band is tight. The drummer, guitar and sax player were really excellent.

The Psychedelic Furs are amazing and put on a fantastic show! They had so much energy, sounded great and were very entertaining to watch. My one criticism would be that they only played for an hour and twenty minutes, then did an encore which was only one song. I wanted more!!! It was my 5th time seeing them and I still am always so blown away by how great they are. Overall it was a very fun night.

The Psychedelic Furs were great as always. They were even better in this great venue "The Showroom at Stalking Stick Resort". We loved every minutes. The Furs are so engaging with the crowd. It is like a family festival when seeing them and hearing those famous songs of theirs. Totally amazing experience. Can't wait to see them again.

I appreciate that old bands want to create new music to stay relevant. But when I go to see an 80s band, I'm really paying for a trip down memory lane. Prior to going to the concert I had no idea there would be 'new stuff' not that it was horrible just not what I had hoped for
