So pleasantly surprised that my friend and I enjoyed it sooo much! Yes, we lived through the 60's, but just a bit too early or too conventional for the Hippie scene. I certainly hope, predict, SOL will make it to broadway. Well-loved lyrics fit so smoothly the simply sweet plot unbelievably well, while bringing back the divergent feelings and memories of that rebellious time. Also, loved the human message, universal for any era.

"Summer of Love" is an engaging and high-spirited romp through the music of the late '60s with a surprisingly compelling narrative line. You'll find yourself wanting to join in on lyrics you didn't even know you still remembered, High-quality vocals and the magnetic presence of Michelle Lee make this musical one you won't want to miss!

Trying to get a plot to fit around these songs was just too corny and predictable. Drug tripping was bizarre. Didn't like the story at all, although the actors were talented and tried real hard to make it enjoyable.

Michele Lee can't sing and her acting was terrible also. How was she chosen for the part? Did they feel they had to have a semi reconsible name to promote the show? Mistake. The supporting cast out showed her.

We thought the cast did an excellent job with the exception of Michelle Lee. Unfortunately, her singing ability is a couple levels below the rest of the cast. If they had cast a better singer in her part the show would be so much better.

We were simply amazed with Summer of Love and couldn't get enough of each actor as they spoke, sang and danced throughout the reproducton of the 60's. Those days we will never forget as we lived in a time where so much happened. Each actor had such a wonderful voice that we sat there with tears or laughter as each song took us back to those special days when we were once so very young. We loved it all, sad pictures of the past, the music, the stage setting, but most of all the great actors who portrayed it all with such a wonderful story for all to understand. Best wishes to everyone who made this play such a success, and may it soon head to Broadway in New York!!

I loved the music as I was a young man during that era. The one thing I did not like was the constant reference to the drug culture, which I realize was an integral part of that scene. That one aspect of the hippie movement negated some of the positives the youth of 1969 were promoting.

Great entertainment for all but especially for those of us who were part of the love generation at it's peak. The songs blended well with the story (ala Mama Mia) There were several highlights but the solo by Soara-Joye Ross brought the house down. There were a couple of scenes that may have bothered some of the audience but they didn't take away from the sheer enjoyment of the show. I'd love to see the show come back some time. P.S. Michelle Lee was fantastic, what a performer.

this show could not have been better except if they had a higher budget and even better effects for certain scenes but the cast was amazing. they sang songs like Janis Joplin's "piece of my heart" Jesse Colin Young's "Get Together" and Harry Nillson's "One" with more passion and emotion than the original. everyone in the cast was beautiful. they poured their hearts out and got mine in return! i just hope this is not really the end for this show if this show ends up on Broadway it will have ramifications in society. the world needs this show

It was wonderful to take a walk back into time and hear some great songs from the "Summer of Love", but this production offered little else. The musical numbers were very good with some strong vocals. Unfortunately, the lovely Michelle Lee did not have vocals that came close to those of the rest of the cast which was not fair to her OR to ticket buyers. Singing is not her strong suit, and it's too bad her acting part was not enough to highlight her talents. The story was very predictable and not very exciting. I can't imagine this production moving to Broadway unless they ramp up the set, rewrite the story line, and get some fabulous characters with great pipes!

While it brought back all the songs I remembered from the 60's, and my own experience of the "hippie" culture; I did not appreciate the reference and apparent condoning of the drug usage. Not all hippies smoked hash and took mind alterating drug, nor did they all sleep together. The actors, however, were believable and excellent at their craft. Their voices were strong. In reading the Director's Notes, it was a moment in time and I'm glad it's in the past. There were and are other more constructive ways to promote peace and love. The hippies glorified here are the very ones that gave us "good hippies" a bad name.

The talent of the actors was absolutely amazing. The music was right on and man could those people sing. I had goose bumps when Soara-Joye Ross sang, she should be on the radio and so should Frank Lawson. The dancing was perfect however, Katie Lee Hill stood and to say she is amazing would be an understatement.

The Summer of Love was a fun experience but is not ready for Broadway in it's current arrangement. The idea that an audience will sit through what is essentially a 25 act play (each song is the end of each act) won't fly. There needs to be a bit more dialogue to set up the reason the hippie movement and anti-war movement started, upfront and not in the background videos around act 13' it might help to know why Holly is there, and the songs are too much of the dialogue and the lyrics don't always fit the context, maybe one line does but that doesn't mean you run the whole tune as dialogue! Maybe a few of the songs could be cut, perhaps the ones that were not written yet during the period depicted! The company is certainly up to the task! They were great Michelle Lee and Missy Drowse were solid and Soara-Joye Ross was outstanding with her Janis Joplin tune, the male lead was good but you ended up wishing he would be the one getting slapped around by Moma and not Curtis. On a technical note the amplified mikes on each actor come across as too brassy and loud I would have enjoyed a more acoustic tone.

Very professional production, original story, well-known songs from the 60s tied the story together. Instrumental musicians in the background were awesome. Loved the way some songs were performed exactly as they were in the original and others were slightly different, in a very pleasing way. This production took risks, and I for one, really appreciated that they didn't play it safe with some scenes. In fact, the Hair production in Boston didn't take the same risks and it really ruined the show. Go see Summer of Love!

This was my first time to the Ogunquit Playhouse so I wasn't sure what to expect as far as the level of experience and professionalism of the cast & crew. It was really a first rate production all around. I love local theater at all levels, but this is definitely a top notch theater. I was very impressed. It was just as good as seeing any Off Broadway show in Boston. 'Summer of Love' was really fun. I was born in the late 60s & still knew all of the songs. It is amazing to see how we can still relate to so many of the things that were relevant then 40+ years later. A great show for any (adult) age audience as long as you understand that it's true to the times (war, sex, drugs, & rock & roll are a part of those times)! Hats off to the entire production.

The performance of Summer of Love that we saw in Ogunquit was a real disappointment. The performances were flat, almost forced; the singing of some of the characters was poor - off-key and hard to hear; and Michelle Lee (the "big star" of the show) recited her lines without too much feeling or enthusiasm and sang poorly. I don't know how the show could be so mediocre, given the great music of the time. The performance really didn't enthrall the audience, most of whom just sat there expressionless. Too bad. I'm glad we had 2-for-1 tickets; I would have been very upset if I had paid full price. I've seen better musicals at high schools and at local community theaters.

This turned out to be a wonderful way to spend an evening up in the cultural hinterlands of Southern Maine. Being from New York City, one becomes jaded and expects the full polish and effect of a Broadway musical, and to be honest I held onto that expectation for maybe 10 minutes. Then it suddenly dawns on you that this is something special and when you let go of your expectations the magic of this show reaches into your very core. A wonderful company has been assembled for Summer of Love with voices ranging from the extremely good to absolutely amazing. The story line is a litle cute and trite, but provides the vehicle for the characters to unfold through their individual and collective songs. One of the many delights in this production is the way that songs, which were never written as part of a musical, all hang together and carry the story line forward. There wasn't a single song that was either out of place or inappropriate. This is a feelgood event, that not only has you tapping your feet and singing along to the tunes of your youth, it transports you back to the summer of 1967 in Haight Ashbury just for a few moments. Well worth the visit

This is a fun show containing quite a few very talented young people. If you know the music, ever experienced an acid trip and lived in that time you will probably enjoy it. There is not much of a script...the story is corny and predictable but most musicals are. The casting of Michele Lee is a bit off but she does an okay job...not much of a part so it couldn't be an easy sell to most seasoned actors. She wasn't very believable as an old hippy living in the park...even though she experieced a tragedy from the war. All in all it is fun but don't expect a mind altering experience...no pun intended!

If you are a Vietnam Vet we feel you should be careful seeing this play and it may not be for you. I know it is our history but it is still too fresh in many minds. The music was great but the reference to "baby killers" was not good. My husband was drafted and served 13 months in Vietnam. It was not his choice but he served our country. The hippies were cute and it was a nice play but it could be hurtful to some. We did not know what it was about since it is a new play and it was a preview. We thought it would be a cute love story with 60's music. We did enjoy many things about the play though.

This was a great show, continuing with the Ogunquit Playhouse's ability to perform Broadway caliber shows! The adorable cast really got into their roles, and the singing was phenomenol!!!!I have been back twice already, and will go back for a third showing next week.Michelle Lee was ok, but the youth... very great.Band was superb!!!!
