Slint

SLINT IN CONCERT:Post-rock progenitors Slint have long enjoyed near-mythic status among alternative circles, but the announcement of a 2014 reunion tour — nearly than 25 years after their last album — launched them from cult favorite to one of the year's biggest buzz bands. The group's trademark wash of guitar textures, alternately hushed and blistering, create a wall of sound that can only be fully comprehended in live concert, a treat fans have rarely been able to experience — until now. The wait has been long, but it's been worth it — riding high off the 2014 re-release of their seminal 1991 album Spiderland, Slint are set to slay on their upcoming tour dates.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Brian McMahan and Britt Walford began playing music together in middle school, forming several bands before recruiting guitarist David Pajo and forming Slint in the late '80s.

Spiderland is such a powerful and mysterious album. I never expected I'd get to see Slint play it, and went into this show with lowered expectations because after all, these guys made the music half of their lives ago and seldom play. They exceeded all expectations, playing with precision and power. The sound was mixed so well and was not overly loud (no earplugs...yay!). They even threw in some songs from Tweez as well as unreleased material. Highly recommended if you're lucky enough to catch them.

Slint played all the classics from the Spiderland album. Slint is such a unique band. The blend of interesting time signatures comes from a place of emotion and deep feeling, rather than from sheer craftiness. The music speaks to people which was obvious whenever the songs reached a climax and the crowd went wild. I loved the show. Long live Slint!

Show was definitely louder than I expected, but still very dynamic. I think this was one of the first shows of their tour, but they were still very on top of their game (only a couple screw-ups that I noticed). Most of the time, you could BARELY hear Brian's vocals, but I'm guessing that's an aesthetic choice, given A) the albums are similar in that regard, and B) he was running the sound board for them. I was also standing like four feet from Brian and still couldn't hear him some of the time. Britt's drums sounded AWESOME, and everyone else sounded great, too. Slint aren't the kind of band to jump all around the stage, but they bring the intensity through their music. The crowd was great, too. They were very much into the music and very enthusiastic.
