The play consisted of 4 very talented actors playing over 100 roles. They all were excellent performers. There were few props but they were cleverly used which only added to the hilarity. It's fast paced and must be seen to be believed. I think 99 Steps would appeal to people of all ages.

Excellent show. Have seen twice. Consistent performances. 4 actors play a variety of characters. Minimal stage props so lots of amazing and hysterical physical acting. I can't believe the original did it with only two actors!

An excellent, very busy, cast of 4 recreates the 39 Steps in a hilarious and imaginative way. Also salutes Hitchcock in multiple funny asides. Recommend that you view the original first, for full effect.

I had friends visiting from the UK who wanted to see something at the theatre. With 6 of us and a mix of adults & teenagers, we were looking for something entertaining but not likely to break the bank. The 39 Steps was a good choice. Not only because we got a great ticket price but also because it appealed to all of us. After a slow start, the production took off and took us all with it. There were some real laugh out loud moments. The cast were great. The theatre could probably do with a bit of TLC but it was comfortable & the seats were good with a great view & good acoustics. It was also nice to be able to take a drink into the auditorium. There was plenty of leg room too. All in all, a great evening out and I would recommend it for others.

I hadn't seen the Hitchcock movie of 39 steps in at least 20 years. Through my laughter, I began to recall it and all its intricacies. The actors are wonderful. That there are only 4 of them is astounding as only one plays just a single part...the rest appear repeatedly in distinctly different and funny roles. My hesitation to award it 5 Stars is that there were too many times that I (we) didn't understand their lines spoken with accents. Still go see it and you'll have a fun time.

39 Steps is a worldwide phenomenon and I'm so glad it's coming back to New York City. I saw it at least 10 times at the Helen Hayes Theatre and was surrounded by kids ranging from 8 to 17 years old - they giggled and laughed at the fast-paced theatrics! So I brought my best friend with his two daughters 8 and 12 and when we got home, they acted out some of the scenes in their own living room. This is a great show for everyone!

This was such an enjoyable evening of theater!!! The Show moves along at such a perfect pace, with brilliantly simple, yet inventive staging. Every actor is perfect, and so nuanced even though at times they are literally switching back and forth between as many as 3 or 4 characters within seconds. We had a wonderful time....and so did the rest of the audience. The laughter was infectious from the entire theater. This is a FANTASTIC SHOW for everyone!!!!

This was a throw back play, a British farce of a mystery. But it was very well done, moved very quickly and was laced with humor throughout. Some of the jokes were specific to England and Scotland. But the acting and pantomime, particularly of the clowns, was so good that anyone could understand it. It ends with a raucous finish. Probably not great for kids, but definitely an enjoyable evening.

Spouse and I totally enjoyed this theatre experience - 39 Steps was excellent. Loved all of it. Laughed a lot. We felt it was well worth the money afterwards. Not too impressed with the comedy. The stage props and "human made" special effects were really good, but the humor was not. It wasn't our type of humor, but there were a lot of people in the audience laughing, but we just didn't see it as that funny. It was boring, and a little childish in terms of humor for us. Our seats were "upgraded" to orchestra when we got there, because it was not a sold out show. Entire audience fit in rows A to M in the Orchestra section.

Union Square Theatre is a small off Broadway theatre next to Union Square. There are lots of nice neighborhood restaurants nearby. We ate at Little Sals Italian restaurant. Chicken Parmesan was amazing! This is a very entertaining production of an old Hitchcock film using only 4 actors and a limited set. Robert plays the lead character and Brittany played three different characters. Arnie and Billy played numerous characters, sometimes simultaneously. We enjoyed the creativity of the cast using minimal stage props to simulate; riding in a train, climbing through windows and even scaling the side of a train. The cast obviously enjoyed their work and working with each other. Arnie and Billy had great chemistry. They reminded me of Abbott and Costello in the way they played off each other. Brittany was particularly fun to watch playing each of her characters with an eastern European accent. She is a rising star. Robert was solid as the over confident lead. I definitely would see this production again.

First, the theater is wonderful, small and intimate, you feel as if you are there weigh the actors and they are looking directly at you. The story is cliche, and would be boring if not for the incredible acting. Billed as for four actors paying all the parts, it is really two actors carrying it all. The accents, costume changes and "dialogue with ones self" is so entertaining. The cast is the rally having fun and it is infectious.

This is not an ordinary adaptation of John Buchan's famous novel. Be prepared to sit through an hour and so of a delightful comedy -- based on the original plot -- with remarkable references to the works of Hitchcock -- from the soundtracks of Vertigo, to the lines in The Man Who Knew Too Much -- along with superb and at times brilliant slapstick comedic performances of the four actors in the play. Highly recommended!

I missed the original version. maybe, if I did see the original, I would have had a different perspective. This show seemed to be a spoof of an original broadcast. Nothing was funny to me. I felt I was the only one, though. others were laughing throughout the show. I just did not get the humor. My guess is...everyone was over 50-60 years old. They must be very familiar with the original version. I know alfred hitchcock films are dated in the early 1900s, so that's the only thing I can think of. I left at the intermission. I fell asleep during the first half. I just could not get into the play. Again, I may have missed the prequel to this show. And I do go to several broadway-type shows per year, so I am not a novice in what to expect out of these shows.

I may have missed the original version. I actually did not see/read/know what the original story was about. it's possible if I knew about the original story, I may have had a different perspective on the show. I thought it was going to be a regular broadway-type show. it was not. apparently, it's supposed to be a spoof of an original broadcast. I did not get any of the comedy it was supposed to portray. It seemed the spoofing was supposed to be a low-budget version of an actual film. Again, it wasn't funny at all to me. I left after the first half. I fell asleep during the first half. This was a total loss for me. It was the worst live show I attended. I am not an avid patron of broadway-type shows, but I do see 2-3 shows per year. Sorry, this show did not do it for me. Again, I may have missed the original broadcast. May be it would have been better for my experience, if I did.

39 Steps has a lot of potential, a fine leading man, incredible and versatile clowns and a pretty leading lady. But it runs too long as the material seems thin. There is an amateurishness to it, not quite professional level timing and mastery. The preposterousness level is just too high for me. Also the crew (and the audience) had problems with the barebones set.

We bought discounted tickets to the play 39 Steps at the Union Square Theatre in NYC, a hilarious adaptation of Hitchcock's movie by the same name. The entire cast consists of three men, and woman, and they play an enormous number of roles, with quick, on-stage costume changes. My wife and I laughed hysterically for the entire 100 minute performance! The humor is a cross between Monty Python and, well, I don't know what. The dialogue is snappy, the visual and non-verbal humor is as funny as the dialogue. When you are seated, you are given a foam ball to wear on your nose which, by the way, has nothing to do with the play! So I won't spoil it for you, I'll just give you two examples of the hilarity. Two of the male actors play a man and his wife (yep, the man in drag). During the course of the skit, the two men switch who is the husband and who is the wife by ducking into a packing case to make a not-to-subtle but very clever onstage switch. The other scene was two of the men, rotating three characters each by rapid-fire switching their hats. How they keep track of which character they are playing was amazing to me! If you have a sense of humor, see this play. If you don't have a sense of humor, see this play so perhaps you can develop one!
