I loved it!! Great food, nice artists, Anthony Hamilton stole the show!! Would love to see some real old timers though such as Earth Wind and Fire, Maze, Mary J, Al Green, Parliament , etc. But overal it was a 10t!!

This event was well attended and it went off without a hitch. The only complaint that I have is with those individuals who still choose to smoke. The entertainment was good and definitely 'old school'. It made an otherwise dreary weekend bright as a 100 watt LED bulb.

The performance was great and we had a really good time. However, I think a lot of time was wasted setting up for the next performer. There shouldn't have been 45 mins to 1hr wait between performers. Also, the cost of VIP was not appropriate for this venue.

I had an awesome time. Location was great and set up. Really enjoy the involving the crowed through acts. The acts was up promptly and was a great show in all. I really like the set up and organization was good with tables and security. The waiters was great with taking orders in the VIP section.

There were a problem wih the bathrooms. Both hand tissue and toliet tissue was not replaced. Water was all over the floor. There were a bathroom attendant. The portable potty didnot have tissue either.

This year the sound system was not as good as last year, specifically when Dru Hill performed, which just happens to be the 1 group in this years line up that I really enjoy. El Debarge, was another artist I enjoy who was also on the bill, but did not perform, which is understandable, things happen, but it would have been nice to have been informed. Overall I enjoy the scenery and people getting together to have a good time, and Dj Dr. Dune always plays the right music to get the party started.

My experience at Funk Fest in Orlando was wonderful. I am a person who comes to all events with an open mind and a layed back attitude so I can enjoy my time at these events. I have been to every one of the festivals in st. petersburg , fl and this was my first time venturing out to Orlando. I loved the show. Sometimes it is hard to believe you are so close to some of those stars. I loved it. I will be going to the one in Tampa next month as well. I am so happy that these events are possible. It's so good knowing that I have seen some of the people that I would not have been able to see if the prices were higher. I love Funk Fest!

My husband and I always have a good time when we go to the FunkFest in Orlando, however, we hope that they have more artists next year for the lineup. We were looking forward to seeing El Debarge but he wasn't there.

Their seemed to be sound issues the entire show, El Debarge was not there, one of the reasons I went besides BBD and Dru Hill, so I was very disapointed, I attended 2012 and was very happy with show and reason I looked forward to this show. Also, there was no security watching for cross overs packing VIP section and blocking views for people who paid good money for VIP section.

I really enjoy the event but they draged it out to long . The main person i wanted to see right along with alot of others was Anthony Hamiltion and he didn't event approch the stage until about 11:00 and it suppose to been over at 10:00. I heard that El Derbarge was suppose to perform as well if he did i know he was upset because so many had already left the Event. so i must say not so draggred out next time.

The show was fabulous! I had a blast and can't wait until next year to go again. I definitely enjoyed being a VIP! That's the only way to go. I wish I could travel with the show and see all of the amazing artists. It was just an impressive event all the way around.

I was excited to go to this concert, as I had not been to Mud Island since 1982. Charlie Wilson and Frankie Beverly/Maze were off the chain!! I did not enjoy El Debarge nor Slick Rick. All they did was jump around the stage while CD tracks were played. If I wanted to listen to CD's, I would have done so at home or in my car!! For the price I paid for this event, I expected so much more. I was really disappointed when the other groups failed to appear.

Charlie Wilson and his group were superb! With several years of musical group experience myself, I would give them a AAA rating for a quality performance in every aspect. They have recreated the term "professional showmanship". Maze, featuring Frankie Beverly was an excellent co-headliner with Wilson. They were equally as great coming from the other side of the coin with a mellow and smooth set to round out the night. After 40+ years Frankie still pushes and moves the audience in style. Attendees needed these two performance to overcome the thoughts of the uncomfortable hard seating that had to been endured thru unless hours of delays with promises from announcers that the show would start any minute. We understood a short rain delay but to have the same crew re-set the same drums 5-6 times told me something else was wrong. Could it have been the results of No Show performers? "The public ain't stupid"!

Great! The concert was absolutely awesome. As always Charlie Wilson was phenomenal and Frankie Beverly & Maze has still got it. This is definintely an event that I would go see every year. Way to go Memphis for getting this event added to your venue.

first of all show started late and a lot of stalling. the best part of the entire show was charlie wilson and maze with frankie beverly. once charlie wilson took stage the drag feeling left and it was party time. the over all atmosphere of the fest was nice. mud island is a beautiful place. v101 could have done better with this show. i was looking forward to artists that were announced when advertisement first aired. will be careful not to purchase tickets too soon.

Thank goodness for Uncle Charlie. The rest was a waste of time unless you have never seen Maze. If you have seen Maze, its the same show and nothing spectacular. A thunderstorm before the show pretty much ruined the sound until late in the night. Not sure why their were 30 and 45 minutes between acts. Charlie Wilson was good and should have been the closer. Once again, Memphis got the short end of the stick. Many performers that attended other events didn't waste their time to come to Memphis. Passed on the ugly funkfest t-shirts also. Charlie and Maze were the only ones worth seeing out of 5 acts. What happened to the two day event I paid for over a month ago? Show was supposed to start at 6, maybe got started close to 7. We sat from 6 til 12:30, only to see Charlie and a Maze should that put everyone to sleep.

The 2012 Funkfest in Memphis was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, especially Charlie Wilson's performance. He made the show. Frankie Beverly and Maze along with El DeBarge were also good, but Slick Rick could have stayed at home. (And what happened to Cameo? I thought they were supposed to have been there.) Charlie Wilson would get an A+ for his outstanding performance. Everything about him was superb: his singing, his dancing, his costumes, his back-up dancers, his stage lighting, his stage presence, his band, his entourage that introduced him, his personality, his candidness, his style, his showmanship, his EVERYTHANG!!!! That man knows how to put on a show!!! He was well-worth the price of the tickets I purchased!

Positives: Charlie Wilson & Maze were amazing. The local opening acts were also good. The venue was beautiful and romantic. Food & beverages were good. Negatives: The event started late. The transitions between acts took too long. I never saw Cameo or received an explanation of the lineup. El DeBarge's set had too much reverb and I could hardly make out what he was singing (even though I had good seats). Why was Slick Rick in this lineup? The vibe was mostly good, but 6.5 hours was a sufficient time frame to put on the entire show. I had to leave in the middle of Maze's set, as did many fans NOT COOL.

Cameo didn't show and I'm very disappointed for we paid to sell all the acts. The Isley Brothers were in Southaven, MS along with Kem & Fantasia they all should have been included in this show.

Excellent show! All of the acts put ona great show, but Ledisi, Kem and Charlie Wilson were clearly the best. I would go see these 3 anywhere anytime. Bobby Brown and Jagged Edge were okay, but didnt have the vocals of the other 3 acts. Charlie Wilson was a true headliner and brought the show home. All the old GAP Bands songs plus the new Uncle Charlie jams. If you get the chance to go se Charlie Wilson, by all means go. he puts on a great show.

I bought tickets for father's day. He took his gf and they had a great time for the most part. The first band was late getting started and sucked from the moment they got on the stage until they left. After that it sounds like the party was on. My dad and his gf danced the cha-cha to one song and sang along to many others. They even taped a song performed by Rick James' band and sent it to me. Sounded awesome. I recognized the song right away. My father and his gf did end up leaving before Cameo came on. They were tired as they waited 1.5 hours for the show to start and they left between 10 and 11pm. I think it was well worth my $$ after hearing there two cents about how things went.

They played most of their song, sound system sounded good, , they had the line up wrong, they should of had Brother Johnsons up first , then 2nd Dazz Band, then Midnight Stars, they could have went out on a bang, we went out on a sour slow pace note from the Brother Johnson , so we basically , kept Midnight Stars in our mind, because they did really , really good had good showmanship , and the Great Host Sinbad to warm it up for another of telling jokes , and best DJ in Northern California DJ GINO :) love it

I think Sinbad was great, good clean comedy, I loved it. I would definitely go see him again. I would also recommend him to my friends. The Dazz Band was real good, i got my dance on. Midnight Star was good too, i just wish i could of heard their voices more. The band over powered there voices. But other than that I had a good time.

This show was absolutely fabulous. Entertainment was great as well as the atmosphere. Wasn't overly crowded. Great idea having serving staff to get you a beverage or drink and they were very polite & friendly. Wish they had more shows like this for my age group. The people in the surrounding seats were very friendly and entertaining. Danced with a few as well. The music definitely kept me out of my seat. Loved every minute of the show. So glad I went.

Sinbad was off the chain!!!! I really enjoyed him. Wish he would do his traveling concerts again. Maybe I was sitting too close (row 5), but the music and the bass seemed to overpower the singers. I could hardly hear their voices. I have attended several concerts at Thunder Valley in the past and have not had this problem. (Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight, Morris Day & Time)

Sinbad was hilarious as always, great set and was well worth the price of the ticket by himself. The Dazz band was exceptional. They know how to perform they "Let It Whip and Swoop" everyone onto they feet. Midnight Star can still let no one "No Parking On The Dance Floor" and they Freak-A-Zoid took me back to the day. Two well rehearsed bands that can still work a crowd!!!!!! I was very disappointed by the Brothers Johnson, they can break up if they forgot to how to perform for an audience. They nearly cleared out a sold out audience, not worth the price of a beer.

Sinbad & the Dazz band were good, the brothers Johnson were ok, but came on too late, everyone was tired, reason why: Midnight Star turned it out, the whole place was rocking for the duration, and by the time the Brothers Johnson came on, we all were too damn tired!!! Midnight Star needs to return ASAP!!!!

Great concert until Bros Johnson came on. Unfortunately for Bros Johnson they had to follow in Midnight Star's stellar performance. Maybe Bros Johnson should have been the opening act. They were way too mellow starting their set. People were leaving the concert during their performance. :-(

SINBAD GAVE AN OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE , BECAUSE IT APPEARED HE WAS FILLING IN , BECAUSE ONE OF THE ACTS WAS NOT READY TO PERFORM. NORMALLY A HOST GIVES A BRIEF INTRO AND THEN INTRODUCES THE OPENING ACTS AND GROUPS THROUGHOUT THE EVENING. THE DAZZ BAND PUT ON AN EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE AND SO DID MID NIGHT STAR GAVE AN EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE CLOSING ACT. BROTHER JOHNSON WAS GOOD , BUT THEIR WAS A 30MINUTE DELAY BEFORE THEY CAME ON STAGE AND THEY THEN HAD TO CUT THEIR PERFORMANCE SHORT. I VENTURE THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE OPENING ACT, UNLESS DURING THE TOUR THEY TAKE TURNS OPENING AND CLOSING,ETC.??

It was our first time attending and we had a ball. The crowd was great with no issues. The music was good. I was a little disappointed with Brothers Johnson, but Midnight Star look like they haven't skipped a beat. I don't know if this is an annual event, but I hope it is because I will be back next year. This show was "Old Skool" at it's best! Sinbad was the perfect host for a show like this. The amphatheater at Thunder Valley is a very nice spot, enough room to have a great time and a great view from any seat. Sinbad performed for about 45 minutes before introducting these EXCELLENT BANDS! He is hilarious and gets better and better every time I see him (and that's a lot!). The Dazz Band opened with a strong beginning and got the crowd ready to party; Midnight Star stole the show with their dance steps, play list, flow, interaction with the audience, they actually looked like they were having as much fun as we were! The Brother's Johnson were good but you could tell they haven't performed together in a long time. For them to be the headliners, I expected more. It was a good show though and they can still play those guitars, very talented brothers. I would have bought their t-shirt if it had an updated photo of them..."you've aged well Brothers, take some updated photos, please?"

This was my first time attending the Funk Fest and it will not be my last. I enjoyed the different artists and the food and drinks. I went with a group of people who also enjoyed themselves.

This is the 1st year the Funkfest came to Orlando and I am so glad it did. I had a blast. from start to finish. I can't wait til next year... But until then I will see FunkFest in Jax and Tampa.... Aint no party like a FunkFest party, 'cause a FunkFest Party don't stop.

I had such a wonderful time. The event started late and ended even later, but ALL the performers were awesome. The food was delicious, the drinks were tasty and the people were fun. This event was a hit :)

The venue was set up nice. The only issue I had was the VIP tables were to close to each other. You know there was alot of bumping into people in the chairs. Also they could have had a few more vendors in the VIP area. Now the entertainment was great along with the DJ . Charlie wilson put on a show and ledisi and Kem were wonderful. Bobby Brown started the show off right. jagged edge was entertaining. Next year it would be great to see , Frank ie beverley and maze, Keith sweat, jodeci, el debarge, whodini, Jill Scott, Sinbad ,ojays,Toni tone Toby I could go on and on. I will be there Next year in VIP again. By the way the ticket price was good as well.

It was a wonderful time in the usually boring city of Orlando. This event finally brought something other than club life to our city. We need these types of events to come to Orlando more often. Everyone sitting around me had an awesome time also. Great Job!

the rain stopped and the show got started and the party was on. The air was full of excitement. Bobby Brown opened the show and Uncle Charlie closed the night, with a show that I will never forget, great showmanship, a wonderful delivery of songs and dancing,

The ticket had the show time @ 5p. The radio announced the show time @ 4p. The show did not start until approximately 6:30p. I waited in the rain from 2-5pm. There was at least a 45min intermission between acts - toooooooo long! The show did not end until 12:30a. Each artist gave awesome shows! KEM - what can I say - KEM, he made my day. Ledisi gave an great energetic performance. But, KEM - Oh KEM - He is Charismatic! Bobby Brown and Charlie Wilson never let the audience down. Did I say the show was AWESOME! But, the organization SUCK!

The seating was horrible. Although I had general admission seats, The stage was not in the center of the park - the big screen tv should have been lifted up some so that everyone could see and the speakers were not placed correctly. Although there were seats assignment on the tickets - never did find out what those numbers really meant - as there definately was not seat assignments

We really really enjoyed. the show. The only downside was Bobby Brown. I think he was drunk, besides, he hasn't had any new music in years. If you heard Roni, My Prerogative, etc., once you heard it all before. Only suggestion is that they replace him with another act. I was updated facebook and my friends in NJ were wishing Funk Fest would come to the NY/NJ area.

I turly enjoyed the show. The artists was great, I want give a special shout out to Kem and Uncle Charlie. Boddy and Ledsi was great. and Jagged Edge. Please keep this going the Funk Fest. The only problem at the concert was when we arrived they took our orignal tickets we recieved from ticketmaster and gave us a paper copy to get in. We wanted to keep our orignal tickets for centmenal value. Other then that the concert was a great hit and we look forwarded to next year.

I have enjoyed going to "Jazz in the Gardens" for the past three years, but chose to stay near home because "Funk Fest" was coming and so accessible. This was the most awesome event! There was not one bad act in the line-up. Setting up between acts took too long and therefor had Charlie Wilson going on late and led to them trying to cut his performance-Not Fair!

I had such an amazing time that I've invited my family members to attend the next event that will be held in Jacksonville on May 12, 2012 and as of right now I have about 25 people going with me. I can't wait. Bobby Brown was great, Jagged Edge was good, Ledisi was amazing, Kem was amazing too, and Uncle Charlie had us off our feet. I really enjoyed myself!!!

The artists were great! Absolutely loved, loved, loved Ledisi and Charlie Wilson!!! If I had to constructively criticize, it would be the time. We didn't leave the field until well after 12:00 midnight. A lot of people had already left and many were leaving before Charlie finished his show - very unfair to him as an artist. Maybe next year, you can cut back on the number of performances or the artists shorten their shows. Next year, I'm bringing the entire family :-)

I really enjoyed the show. El Debarge did a great job and sounded great. Uncle Charley put on a show. I enjoyed him and can t wait to see live again. Maze ft. Frankie Beverly did awesome. I just saw them in Little Rock and still was excited to see them again. And the lead guitarist JuBoo is so awesome.

I actually only came to see one person and that person was Charlie Wilson. He did not fail to entertain the audience -- we got a Vegas performance. I was glad he was mid-way the concert because I think if he had of been first, 50% of the audience would have left after his performance. There was too much time in between the performances and too much banter. Next time, entertain the audience with dancers or videos. By the way, where was the jumbo tron screen that most concerts provide for the audience? Come on Memphis, get with the program.
