For one, this album is 14 years old. Why they re touring it now, I don t know, but I couldn t be happier because it s my favorite by them. I watched the pitchfork performance about 20 times prior to this to be prepared and while I knew some of the extra bits they did, like covered in frogs, they also did pilot and a newbie that Avey wrote AND learning how to drive. One of my favorite songs they did was happy birthday to embarrass Noah- so happy to have been there for that. And not JUST that but I got to tell the guy in person after the show. Had to pay a security guy to find the tour bus location but wow, so worth it. Noah (Panda Bear) is such a chill down-to-earth dude and I ve heard about him being shy for meet & greets or whatever but it felt like we were a group of a few buddies shooting the breeze. He even signed my copy of sung tongs and person pitch on vinyl, my boyfriends t-shirt, and we got pictures! (Attached) As always, blown away by you guys. Hands down would ve flown to New York to see the show again two days later if I had the funds.

MIND BLOWING experience. Hands down, one of the best live events I've ever been to. AVEY... his angelic screams. PANDA singing and on drums! DEAK doin' what he does best. GEO vibing out. Great night, four great guys. They know how to put on a magnificent show.

Okay, so the people who say this wasn't an amazing show is either lying or wasn't watching the show at all. I'm pretty sure it had to do with the fact that I was in the front row, but I'm sure I still would have had an amazing time on the lawn. No complaints.

Despite the heat, this was still a fun show. I wish they had played more songs from their past albums! They didn't even play "My Girls," which was really surprising. It would have been nice to have more upbeat songs in the set list because listening to slow songs in the heat made me want to fall asleep.

Awesome setlist, really cool crowd and lax venue. Only complaint I have is that the acoustics weren't the greatest here but I am pretty sure if you were up close it would be better. A lot of new music and it was some awesome stuff...specifically some of the stuff Panda Bear played was just experimental progressive electronic dance rock and it really hits the mark.

Everything was absolutely wonderful, except for the length. I've never been more upset over a show ending than this one. I traveled 6 hours to Atlanta and was hoping for this grandiose display of awesome. I got a great performance, but I wish the boys had worked up the audience. They didn't even speak to us till the very end, it's almost like they didn't want to be there.

I've been to 4 shows at the Verizon, counting this one, and I have to say that by far, this one was the worst. The attendance was low, they filled up only half of the pit. The staff seemed unwelcoming. But all of this would have been moot, had AnCo put on a somewhat decent show--to be blunt, their performance was devoid of any sort of redemptive energy, really any energy at all. They played mostly new stuff, with maybe 2 tracks from Merriweather Post Pavilion and none from Strawberry Jam...essential AnCo, if you ask me. The crowd, mostly "too-cool-for-school" hipsters, barely nodded their heads to the lulling discord that emanated from the speakers. I didn't even feel that the band was into it About halfway through the performance I started to wonder why I had come in the first place. It felt odd and dis-genuine to be there. Don't get me wrong, I love AnCo--always will-- maybe I just don't love them live.

Animal Collective put on probably the best show i've seen, but for the cost I think it was way too short. I was very surprised and disappointed when the show ended as well as the majority of the crowd that I observed. Would have given 5 stars if it lasted a little longer. Didn't care so much for Verizon Amphitheater.

Animal Collective played a lot of new material which must mean another album is in the works. They also played several great older songs. The opening acts were good too, I was pleasantly surprised to see Atlas Sound perform as I wasn't aware of the "special guests" when I bought my ticket.

Animal Collective is a great band, and this becomes very evident in their live shows. They are capable of attending to the crowd's innermost desires and whimsies. The stage set-up was pretty artistic, with props and ever changing ambient lights. From part of the crowd you could see the whole animal collective gang, hopping and doing the dance. From another part of the crowd, you could only make out half of the members- but this is true for most concerts. I would most definitely go back to another show. I hope they continue to make Music and expand their on-stage art. I want more, its never enough!

They sounded the most "hi fi" of any artist I have yet seen perform. Their songs were all very different than studio releases, and they did play things from their individual releases. Felt a bit short, but time flies when you're having fun.

Animal Collective was amazing! The lights, the Holograms, their trippy stage setup...all amazing! They controlled the crowd very well, moving them to go crazy and dance and also winding them down at beautiful slow moments. The setlist was amazing, they played their new album and also some old hits...I absolutely fell in love with every song, and overall i'm just SOOOOO happy I got to see them and they did not disappoint!

I got there early enough to get into the front row of the pit (even though I paid for lawn seats)... Was about six feet away from Deakin. I scarcely have the words to explain how joyous this concert was. I danced so much I kind of lost it at some points--between the breathtaking music and incredible (psychedelic!) set, I kept forgetting that I wasn't a space cadet and that I wasn't on any drugs. Amaaaaaazing concert. If you even remotely like Animal Collective's music, I highly recommend seeing them live. Wow.

My 16 year old daughter has rather eclectic taste in music, therefore, she has a difficult time finding friends that share her interests. She finally "gave in" and said I could take her (considering I was paying, I thought that was very "generous" of her!) to this concert. I did not know what to expect but I was happy to take her, we had a blast! The whole show was amazing I would go to see them again, truly amazing!!

Huun Huur Tu was amazing, despite the fact that they only played a couple of songs. Their rich talent and experience was exploding all over the not-so-enthusiastic crowd. Flying Lotus seemed like he was having a hard time and left early because of frustration. Not sure if it was Animal Collective's fault or bowl sound technicians, but the sound was horrific for the first half of the set. The levels were completely off which is disappointing knowing that the acoustics at the bowl are usually pretty amazing. I suppose I was also hoping to see Merryweather Post Pavilion Animal Collective.

I actually like the new album for what it is, but they played none of their classics. Their last time at Fox was MUCH better. They played songs like Doggy, Loch Raven, etc. I guess they're over their oldies but goodies. The new generation of "My Girls"-lusting fans didn't seem to notice. Needless to say, I won't be going to see them again any time soon, especially not for $50. On a side note, Avey's last solo performance in Oakland was stellar. If you haven't yet, look up the song "Laughing Hieroglyphics."

It was pretty awful. I left 20 minutes early because i just couldnt look at the stage anymore. The music was so bad I felt deceived. I love Animal Collective and I jumped at the chance to see them live because they dont play out here very often. There was nothing harmonious or melodic. Nothing like their old albums. It was just horrible. The best part of the whole thing was the opening act with the ancient Chinese band. But they played only 30 minutes to a half full audience.

Sat in T1. It was a little farther away than I would have liked, but closer seats were insanely expensive. Could see the stage over all, but not any details. Luckily there are four giant screens you can watch and see the band up close. I was super impressed with how great the acoustics was! Definitely want to go back and hear the LA Phil play.

I came from Phoenix with my friends Jen, Miguel and Heidi to see the show and it was tight but I wish Miguel hadn't drank as much and that maybe there was one song from not Centipede Hz in the encore. The decor was cool, way to reinflate that inflatable thing quickly too, and props to whoever did the lighting for the Flying Lotus show. Oh and you guys should put some trees so that we don't have to see that giant neon cross to the right of the stage.

The opening band, Huun Huur Tu, played some interesting Siberian folk music replete with gravelly throat singing! Next, Flying Lotus takes the stage and completely dominates with monster beats, smooth ambient transitions and bits of jazz bursts. Steven Ellison is a very entertaining DJ and quite unlike a lot of others in his field. Lastly, Animal Collective opened with a slowed down version of Almost Frightened and proceeded to play a host of tunes from Centipede Hz and Merriwether Post Pavilion, all of which were enjoyable. Fun show!

In short, the opening acts were better. Huun Huur Tu was strange but provided a nice multi-cultural sound. Flying Lotus pretty much made the whole show. He sounded really good but only played for a half hour tops. Animal Collective played for about an hour and a half but throughout most of the set, I found myself bored. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed all the songs they played (including the new album). They weren't as exciting and fun as I thought they'd be but they didn't quite fit the mold of a relaxing "trippy" vibe that you would expect them to fit into (especially with all the stoners around). They may have thrived in a smaller venue but they couldn't quite make the cut here. Sorry AnCo. Better luck next time.

Their recorded work is fun and mixed well. Their show was lackluster and needs a serious jolt of energy. I'd say the vocals go from muddled to slightly less muddled because of a tremolo effect. I know they use this effectively on albums but not live. I want to be fair but 2 stars is a stretch, 1.5 is more like it.

Being a longtime HUGE fan of Anco, (which most people are), I expected this to be momentus. Long story short, they played 85% material from their new album, Centipede HZ. Get real. You can see on metacritic that by and large, fans and critics did not like Centipede nearly as much as ANY other work of their's... it's not the worst thing in the world, it's just not why animal collective has the large, devoted fan base that they do. I thought the whole time they just needed to get over themselves and play what people wanted to hear (anything, really)... people were barely moving their bodies to these limp new songs. They have 5 albums of golden material to play from, and they are charging $50 to hear their worst album, with the addition of my girls... nice

This show was absolutely phenomenal: the bands were all spectacular and brought together a medley of genres that provided a wide range of styles while remaining cohesive in their experimentation. Each band brought new elements to the table during the live show, providing a different experience from listening to them on album. The visuals were spectacular: Flying Lotus's set behind a portal, Animal Collective's performance within a mouth chewing on hallucinogens. And I was at first hesitant about the Hollywood Bowl being an outside venue, but the sound was rich and just loud enough.

It's my favorite band and "painting with" is on a constant loop at home and in the car, so instead of hearing it at home or in the car, there they are up there performing it live. And it was amazing. The light/stage show was very cool looking, and reflected the cartoonish vibe of the new record. Their music is so busy that it keeps my brain occupied and entertained. The visual was all that times infinity. It rocked.

I've been following Animal Collective for years but haven't been to their shows before. I guess I expected more action and onstage antics from this one. Maybe some happened but I sat too far from the stage to see it. There was next to zero interaction with the audience. Given the electronic character of the music, one might say Animal Collective went for a Kraftwerk-like stage setup, with each member (not counting the drummer) standing at his own pulpit - for KW this helps bear out the robotic themes of their music, for AC it just looks boring. The sound was okay. I'm giving it an overall 3 stars because I don't want to be too critical of the band; it's probably just a terrible mismatch of band and venue. Their shows need to happen in large caves where mutant bats hang from the ceiling and the ground is carpeted with LEDs and stuffed animals. Fox Theater ain't that.

This was my third time seeing Animal Collective, and I can honestly say each show has been completely different than the one that preceded it. To me, that speaks to not only their versatility as a band, but also to their constant shape shifting and relentless innovation in their music. They opened with an extended version of "Natural Selection," quickly setting the stage for the rest of the night. Mesmerizing and hypnotic, Noah's vocal performance was nothing short of exceptional, and his emotional delivery resonated throughout the entire theater. More highlights: -A brilliant rendition of "Daily Routine" that seemed to materialize out of nowhere, only to transform majestically in its operatic second half. -"Summing the Wretch" is a dynamic and powerful live song, and should be a staple of their shows for the next year or so. "Lying in the Grass" belongs in this category too, fantastic live song and they absolutely nailed the alternating vocals. -A completely unexpected performance of "Alvin Row," a song from one of their earliest albums. The live version of this song was a revelation, and I may never hear anything like it ever again. Worth the price of admission alone. -And then of course, "The Burgalars" got everyone dancing as they closed their set, and then came back with an encore that included a deconstructed version of one of my personal favorites "Loch Raven." Overall, it was a wonderful and inspiring show. Highly recommended to anyone looking to open their mind and experience something different.

I am a huge 10+ year fan of AC and the same cycle seems to happen over and over...new album comes out, sounds "okay," then they tour it and mix it in with select older material and it really comes alive. The visuals and stage design for this tour are the best yet and they have really perfected the "flow" of their live set. This was not the best show I've seen by them but they only seem to tour on the album cycle so if you don't wanna wait 2+ years to see them again and you are a real fun (i.e. don't just know MPP) then you will enjoy it.

I was extremely excited to be seeing this band for the first time. It wasn't bad but I was expecting a lot more from what I've heard about their live shows. I was disappointed they only played 3 or 4 songs that weren't on their new album. Their transitions between songs were "playful" I guess but sometimes they felt like they dragged on with little progression (time they could have spent playing older songs that people probably really wanted to hear). I also don't think they were loud enough or mixed well enough. Their music is usually very dense and at the show it was hard to discern parts from each other. Their live drummer was not the best and actually messed up once or twice. A few of the songs (especially Golden Gals) would have been a LOT better (and more danceable) with more snare rather than edge hits but I guess he wanted to play them how they were written. Overall it was kind of disappointing but still cool to see one of my favorite bands live. Perhaps when they aren't touring for this album it will be a lot better.

After cancelling their original show date in July 2013, AnCo finally returned in November (maybe it was Decmember?) and I was extremely excited. My friends and I were a little early so we made it to the front, but more toward the speakers on the left in front of Avey. The band members looked extremely lethargic and had little to no energy. At one small dance move the crowd would go crazy, because any slight movement was better than them standing there looking bored. I love AnCo, and to see them seem so down about performing was off-putting. About the music... The whole set seemed like one song. Very repetetive, songs couldn't be differentiated from the previous one. The bass overruled the instruments and singing, which isn't a huge deal usually, but this was remarkably annoying. The bass was so obnoxious that people were actually covering their ears, and I have minor (but permanent) hearing damage in my left ear. When people ask, "Was it worth it?" I wish so much that I could say yes. But it just wasn't. Such a sloppy, and overall bad show. I tried so hard to enjoy it. Bottom line: Don't see them live. If you do, I REALLY hope your experience is better than mine. Maybe they just had a bad day? :x

This show was incredible! Worth the wait. The audience was really wonderful and went wild during the encore.

This was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had. Animal collective was phenomenal and put on a great show. Very high energy and the music sounded absolutely amazing. I would recommend seeing this band to everyone I know!

It took too many songs before the fire lit, but when they lit, people were crazy and it was just good.

Animal Collective was on point, both nights. The music was amazing which is all that matters. The crowd should learn to dance and any of you wallflowers who stood there doing nothing need to get some pep in your step, the music was incredible. the set was also amazingly designed and constructed. my only real qualm was the same setlist was played both nights, i didnt pay for both nights to see the same show. but regardless, a good time.
