Winwood is one of those artists that has been a constant soundtrack for decades. We tend to take those kinds for granted, and often they linger on doing live shows long after they have lost what made them great. I have seen this recently with Doug Grey of Marshall Tucker who can't sing and no longer plays flute, Donald Fagen who can't sing, Ian Anderson who can't sing but still has great instrument chops and a super band and others. Winwood surprises with a voice that has barely aged and sounds great! His band on this show was partly hindered by the room. The Stiefel is very drum friendly, and there was an excellent drummer and a percussionist, but they overpowered the room acoustically so that vocals and guitars were a bit drowned. This happens often at the venue. They need to put most of the drum kits in a cage there. It does depend on the sound engineer though. The best sounding big band was with Joe Walsh - A nine piece with two full drum kits. It all was mixed perfectly! But the Steve Winwood show was good just because he has such an amazing catalog of songs. A great song doesn't care who sings it. His daughter Lily opened the show with a very mellow set of her neo-folk songs, including a cover of Prine's "Angel From Montgomery" with all of the lilting embellishments and runs I've come to expect from younger singers these days. Nothing bad here, just nothing special. Intermission was way too long before Steve and company came on, sans any bass player. Steve on B-3 and guitar, another guitarist, the rhythm section and a reed guy on tenor, baritone and soprano sax as well as keyboards and flute. Lily came out later to join dad for a duo performance of "John Barleycorn". She also provided fine harmony on a few full band hits. I just wish they'd had a bassist. Basic bass lines were heard here and there, no doubt some synth program, but they only underscored what was missing... Where my bass at? We get to hear some great and legendary musical acts at our little Stiefel Theatre because we are right in the middle of the state where I-135 meets I-70. When they're coming from Denver, St. Louis or KC, they can fit us in. We're also non-profit, so ticket prices are lower. All of these factors tend to make Stiefel audiences more receptive and forgiving of famous players. Steve Stills can't sing either, but his guitar is fine and he brought the Missus along. Tip for aging rock singers: Bring along a babe who can sing great. You'll get points. Or just be Steve Winwood.

He's still got it, that's for sure! It was amazing how he still sounds as good if not better than 40 years ago. And still looks great! What an awsome band too! He's surrounded himself with very talented musicians that really rocked the house. One guy (gotta get his name) played about 5 different instruments and each of them flawlessly! The only problem was it seemed to be over too soon. I thought they were taking an intermission, but it was almost over. Two hours flew by in a rockin' blur!

Windwood was great. He still has his voice and every song was as one would remember. The opening act was Windwood s daughter. Her music is more coffee house music and really not what I m into. The Sands Event Center needs threatre type seating. If a large person sit in front of you you ll need to watch the concert on the large screens.

The first 45 minutes is warmed up by Lillie Winwood, Steve's daughter. This was a snoozer. Folk music by someone who doesn't smile and has an extremely low level personality. Steve comes on and now the music starts to crank. It took a couple songs for the crowd to wake up and get engaged. He sounds great and can still make a guitar sing. WOW! Lasted a little over an hour. Thank goodness every song was perfect. For the price of tickets today, Leave Lillie home and play a little longer. At least I can say I saw Steve Winwood and he was excellent.

Steve Winwood is always amazing, however, he performed for just over an hour, Lilly performed for about a half hour. No where in the billboards did it announce that Lilly was performing. Drove 3 hours to see Steve Winwood and expected more from a Steve Winwood concert. Have seen him many times and expected a similar type show.

Steve Winwood is an incredible singer and musician who has surrounded himself with like minded players who are all fantastic in their own right. He has way more great songs then he could possible use in one concert so you are guaranteed to hear fabulous song after fabulous song. I loved how his daughter was an opening act, what a fantastic voice she has....then to also have his daughter sing with him during the performance. I've seen Steve before and try to see him every time he's around. My only 1 disappointment was he didn't play Fly which my husband was looking forward to hearing. He plays it in the house constantly....lol..But he is the most wonderful performer, vocals, instruments, etc. My husband and I are great fans of his. Already waiting for him to come around again.

What a night! Winwood has formed a tight unit that takes the audience through the history of rock in one set of music. I sat there in awe as I felt like a had gone to four shows at once. Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith, and Winwood's solo career are all represented and the songs performed come off as if they were being done by the original groups. If you are a fan of rock and wish to experience some of it's origins in their classic forms, then this is the show to see. I can't imagine another tour out there that can match it in historical value.

Thoroughly enjoyed this show. Opening act was okay - lovely girl with a beautiful voice, just not my preference for music. On the other hand, At 69. Steve Winwood still has a wonderful voice that is so unique and recognizable. From Spencer Davis Group, to Blind Faith and Traffic as well as his solo work, he still has it. The older stuff really took me back to some good times. Great show.

I have been a huge Steve Winwood fan since my teenage days in the 80 s. As my exploration of his career continued I was amaized at the consistent level of quality art he created. I found I enjoyed his less known work as much, if not more, than his most popular works. I was lucky enough to see SW in concert at the Calvin in Northampton, MA after he released About Time . It was an incredible journey through music history and I was so looking forward to reliving it this past Saturday evening. Unfortunately this was not the case! The vocals were not properly amplified for a live show but the band sounded great as always. He followed his daughters 30 minute set with a very brief 75 minute show that cut back from his usual set list by 2 songs. The other artists of this generation are known for performing sets that are completely representative of their Rock-n-Roll HOF careers, this show was much less than that and left me disappointed. I must say that I left Mr. Winwood s show feeling like I did not get value for my ticket price!

Although Steve Winwood's voice sounded great and his band was good, the concert suddenly ended a little after an hour and 11 songs. No encore. Only one 80s song played ("Roll With It") which was disappointing for a greatest hits tour. Audience left confused and wanting more. His daughter opened the show. Unfortunately, she was not much more than a coffee house singer. It felt like Steve is doing the tour to launch his daughter's career.

My husband and I were so disappointed in this concert! Winwood played for a about a hour... when the show was over we both looked at each other and said that was it!! Seeing Steve and the band in a small intimate venue was a real treat. At 69 years of age he has the energy of a man half that age. Some artists lose energy and range in their voice but Steve has stood the test of time. Amazing. The band was exceptional as well. It was nice to see his daughter Lilly join him on stage. A lovely young lady with a terrific voice and plays quite well but with Dad as a teacher that's not surprising. The only thing that might have been better is with the small tight venue and the acoustics it offers the volume at times was a bit much. Most of the show it wasn't an issue but a few of the notes needed to be turned down a notch. Overall, well worth the price of admission.

It's a very small handful of artists this accomplished, this unique and whose contributions are so obviously all over music history . To get the chance to see him at this point in his career and have him deliver with a twinkle in his eye, at a great vintage venue like the Chicago Theater, will be notched amongst the highlights in my 4 decades of frequenting live music. It was obvious that the rest of the band was enjoying their good fortune of reproducing Winwood's signature & legacy and they very adeptly climbed into his wide and warm wheelhouse. I can't help but smile when I think about the life changing experience that the band members touring with Winwood are being treated to by collaborating and spending this time on the road\u2026 with the one & only Stevie Winwood !!

While I felt it a privilege to see to see Windwood play, the audience was the rudest I've ever witnessed. When did this great musician become background music? A couple behind me chatted incessantly the ENTIRE time, and when the woman wasn't loudly talking, she was whistle shrieking - even during the song. The woman next to me scrolled through her iphone about 50% of the time. Let me tell you, the light was distracting. And they weren't the only ones! One person even had an ipad stuck up there! I saw Stills/Collins a few weeks back and prior to show, it was announced to put away cell phones, no photos. I totally support that now! While I love Humphreys, the seats are just too close together unless everyone is of smaller than average size. I'm short, and this time had a very tall gentlemen sitting in front of me two rows up and I just couldn't position myself to see Winwood when he played the piano.

Steve Winwood was amazing. The band, the vibe, just the simplistic of his production. Sound was incredible. He could have played six more hours and I'd have rocked out. The only problem for me is I love to dance. I can't just sit there. So I would suggest some general admission or a better crowd who stands up at shows. All in all the crowd is getting older :). May go see him in Santa Rosa next week!

Steve Winwood's show at the Warner Theater on May 1 was phenomenal. After an enticing opening set by his daughter Lilly, Steve came out and delivered a blistering set that started with "Back in the High Life Again" and didn't let up until the finale of "Gimme Some Lovin." His four-piece band was tight and exceptional. And I think that people tend to forget that Steve is a fantastic guitarist! The setlist may look short, but every song turned into a jam, and even his most popular/famous tunes were given a Latin/Caribbean flavor. An hour and 45 minutes of sheer musical artistry and enjoyment!

I have been a big fan of Steve Winwood for many years but have never seen him live. I thought I had a good idea of what to expect from the "Clapton/WIndood Live from MSG" disc, although that was recorded with Clapton's band. I expected good to really good but was delighted to get great! Although WInwood Looks good for his age but the impressive thing is how well his voice has held up. I mean, he recorded "GImme Some Lovin'" when he was 14 and sings it just as well at nearly 70! I was glad he played mostly Traffic material and jammed on it a bit. His band was stellar with an amazing guitarist and a horn guy who played tenor, alto, soprano and baritone sax, flute, sang backing vocals plus played organ when Steve played guitar. No bass player, all left-hand bass on the keyboard. Winwood is known as a master of the Hammond B-3 but I was really surprised at his guitar skills. There's a lot of "Clapton" in his playing. Winwood is so much more than a "nostalgia" act and very much a vital musical force. I was going to go to "Dave Mason's Traffic Jam" at the Paramount this summer but he would be hard-pressed to top Winwood's set!

The last time I saw Steve Winwood he was touring with Eric Clapton. Steve seems to have taken himself back to his Traffic days for his live concerts. The set up was Steve on Hammond Organ (as usual) sometimes taking center stage and picking up his guitar while the sax man covers the Hammond seat. One guitarist, one percussionist, one sax (actually two sax, clarinet, etc.) and a drummer. Deep cuts were played. If you are looking for Valerie, Arc of a Diver, etc, you would have missed them. But take yourself back to the days of Traffic, Spencer Davis Group, etc, Delightful!

Overall a first rate concert. Not prepared for Winwood's performance on the Hammond and the heavy lean on progressive jazz. Could have shortened "Low Spark of High Heeled Boy's" somewhat in favor of one other song. Nonetheless a very pleasant evening by a master of the years and quite memorable. Drum solo a virtuoso performance. Left all standing cheering at nights end. My warmest regards.

Steve Winwood & his band did not dissappoint! A few bad apples heckled opener, he handled it as well as can be expected. Winwood played the perfect blend of songs from throughout hs career from Spencer Davis Group to Traffic to Blind Faith to his solo stuff primarily from his most recent effort "Nine Lives" & very little from his dark period (and most commercially successful period) the 1980's playing only "Higher Love" from that era. Go see him while you still can!!!!

You gotta figure Steve Winwood can rock just about any venue. With such a deep repertoire of Hits over the decades, there is just so much material from which to draw. But his performance at McCall hall was over the top! What makes for good opera acoustics also contributed to SW's band's Rock/Blues/Jazz combo. The sound was excellent, start to finish. Bongos? They had 'em. Awesome Sax? That too... 2 Percussionists? Check. I can't wait for Steve to come back to Seattle. I'd see him again this weekend in a spot like McCall Hall.

For those who have followed Steve Winwood's career of late both as a headliner and opening for Tom Petty, you know that you are going to get the more serious, artistic side of Steve Winwood. This is a concert of virtuosity and while I loved it, you will probably have a few fans of the 1980s heavy rotation songs yelling for such unplayed songs as Valerie, Don't You Know What the Night Can Do?, Roll With It, and other adult contemporary songs likely not on your setlist. Had those fans not been yelling, "Valerie," all night, this would have been a five star evening for me. But I also understand it's not for all. Fifteen minute songs are not good for a slightly buzzed, attention-deficit crowd. And that is not even a condemnation of the crowd because the most downloaded songs of Winwood's career are the ones he disregards in his concerts. That's why a percentage of them are there and they will leave disappointed. Nothing wrong with that point of view to my mind. But for others, know that Winwood's band is stellar, his guitar playing and organ playing is still enthralling, and his voice still hits the mark. Winwood is simply not playing the king or even the prince of pop. His goal is clearly different for the past ten years.

I went into this show thinking it was just going to be a subdued flyback to days and music gone by...boy was I wrong! Steve has surrounded himself with some outstanding musicians who compliment his style and breathe new life into the old songs as well as rocking the more recent material. The show was a nice mix of old and new songs and the classics have never sounded better! The crowd was a decent mix of young and old that remained mostly seated but managed to get up for the dance hits. I don't have the setlist, hopefully someone will post it here. But suffice to say he played a real nice mix of old and new songs and this was an awesome show!

If you are a Steve Winwood fan from the '80s and up, you will be very disappointed. He did not one of his classic favorites. Also, we had to sit through a half hour of his daughter singing lovesick tunes - totally not in synch with the genre of what you are expecting at a Steve Winwood concert (she's a lovely girl with a lovely voice, but not what my friends and I enjoy.) I really wanted to leave and get my money back and would have done so if I were not riding with my friend. Tons of solos by his accompanying artists that got really old. I wanted to hear all his wonderful songs that I grew up on, but did not. Also, we had to wait another half hour after his daughter sang for him to get on stage.

I'll make this as short as the concert. The good - Steve was in great voice, his band was very good, his daughter, Lily, has a very nice voice and was excellent both solo and when singing with her father, loved the setlist - what there was of it. The bad - ELEVEN songs!!!!! No "Valerie", "Higher Love", or "Back in the High Life". How can the Greatest Hits Live concert for such an accomplished artist be that short!!!

An unforgettable evening with a wonderfully talented musician and vocalist. 50+ years of hits from his various bands and solo projects. I am fortunate to have been able to see him. His daughter Lilly's opening band was also interesting , although much different style wise, more country than rock. .

Steve Winwood sounded really good as he played tunes from his whole musical journey... Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, Traffic, and solo artist. He let his excellent band jam away on Pearly Queen, Low Sparks, and Had to Cry Today, but also was perfect in his acoustic rendition of John Barleycorn. Steve's daughter Lilly was the opening act and she also provided backing vocals on a few songs. My only disappointment was the length of the show.... about 90 minutes. It would've been great if he played a couple more tunes from his vast catalog.

It's twenty years since last I saw Steve Winwood - it will be more than twenty before I go see him again. Not a great playlist, certainly not his greatest hits. Why start an hour late? His daughter really cannot command the stage - that was painful and certainly not a "warm up" act. Drop it. Band was very professional, very competent but all a bit lacking in emotion. Steve looked a lot like Bill Gates - though his keyboard and guitar work were really good. His voice was remarkably good but far, far too often pretty much drowned out by his band and his keyboard. it was all a lot too much like the guys were having just "another day at the office" - punch the clock, get it done and move on. A pretty average night out.

Steve Winwood was outstanding as was his band. His voice was strong and his keyboard and guitar playing were excellent. The guy on flute, sax, keyboards and vocals was amazing. The percussion with the conga and drummer was a perfect blend. I thought Lily was good but the Tower is not the best venue for a solo performer doing folk music. I thing Steve's band could have played a little longer. The highlight for me was John Barleycorn Must Die.

What a great show! He has good energy and band is tight and very talented. Steve's daughter opened the show with 5-6 songs and is very talented. Steve came on and gave us some terrific songs from early in his career, Spencer Davis Group and Blind Faith. Then he hit the highlight of the show, starting with Low Spark and segway into Empty Pages. Also the solo of John Barleycorn was very moving. Concluded with a few more current hits from Back in the High Life and Arc of a Diver. Encore of Dear Mr. Fantasy and Gimme Some Lovin' was fantastic. Good night, good show, good venue, great experience!! Jim

Another stellar show from one of the finest musicians we've been blessed with. His band is always top notch and they deliver the goods every time. Winwood ages like fine wine and I hope he continues to play live for years to come. NJPAC is awesome.

I enjoyed his daughter as the opening act - unusual combination of English folk and American country. Steve Winwood is one of my all time favorites and this was an above average concert for him. Very high energy. I took away one star because, as always, there were no songs from Arc of a Diver, even though it was a "greatest hits" tour. His voice still sounds really good so I'm not sure why he doesn't include songs from that period. John Barleycorn almost made up for it though.

Always love seeing shows in this beautiful theater. Sound is great. Every seat is great. Steve Winwood is a must see. His daughter Lilly opened the show. Very good. She also sang with him later on. Great voice. He did so many hits. Loved every minute. Thanks to all involved.

Having seen Steve many times over the years, I can say with absolute conviction that his talent has not diminished with time. His vocal ability is still impeccable and his guitar and keyboard work is still in fine form. An engaging and entertaining performance.

Icon Steve Winwood, as good as ever. Wonderful voice fully intact, virtuoso on the Hammond and Guitar. Only complaint is that I could have listened to him and excellent band for a few more hours. Superb.

Stevie did not disappoint. He still has the fire to get the audience going. It's hard to believe that he has been doing this for over 50 years, and the voice is still the same . Having his daughter opening for him was a nice touch.

Have seen him several times over the last few years. Tonight he played with more energy and enthusiasm than any of those other shows. Very enjoyable, had the crowd really rocking.Amazing keyboard solo during Pearly Queen and an awesome guitar solo during Dear Mr. Fantasy. Only negative is he does not vary the set list much, which is a shame since he has such a large and varied selection of songs to choose from over his long history.

Steve Winwood put on a great show. Playing many of his classics that all fans want to hear. However, the show lacked some songs that made "Steve Winwood" the mega star he is aside from a member of a great band. Valerie? Arc of the Diver ? A very good show could have been amazing with a few tweaks.

In a word HORRIBLE. The man was sleepwalking through the show. There were several off notes and a songs that were normally 6 or 7 minutes long turned into 20 minute songs with BONGO solos! I'm sorry I don't care how good a musician a person is but a BONGO solo just doesn't cut it. The songs were not played with any enthusiasm. Hell no one even realized the group was onstage because the house lights never went down until they started playing. His daughter was the opening act and her acoustic set put me to sleep. Hang it up Steve...Go out on top stop trying to relive the past. A 70 year old rocker needs to retire.

I maybe in the minority but when I go see someone in concert, I would like them to perform their material as close to the recordings as possible. That was not the case with this concert. Steve Winwood and his band stretched out many songs with long guitar solos and 1 very long drum solo. Although he played a lot of material from his days with Traffic, with the exception of Dear Mr. Fantasy which I thought was well done, the rest of the songs did not sound like the studio recordings. He only played 2 hits from the 80's. Arc of the diver and Valerie were not included which are 2 favorites. No songs from Blind Faith. Overall I was disappointed.

Having seen Steve Winwood numerous times over the years, we were really looking forward to this show. His Greatest Hits tour lived up to the hype. A little bit of everything from his fabulous career. Of course, there could have been more, but what he played was on the money. His voice got stronger as the show went on and I would have to say the highlight of the show was Dear Mr. Fantasy. If you have the chance, go! How many more times will we all have the chance to see these types of performances? Not to be missed.

Amazing concert, he played all of his "old" and favorite songs from the Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, and Traffic. A great time was had by all. The venue is perfect except for the fact that it is Newark and in a very dangerous area.

Steve Winwood was great. They played almost everything I could think of, with the exception of Valerie & Arc of a Diver. They got on stage around 8:20 & were off by 10:10. I was a little disappointed that the show was so short, but it was still good

Despite a show that didn't wow with glitz and production it did wow you with pure musical talent and execution. In other words it was a great night of music. Thank you Steve and Lilly for a magical night of music. I waited 20+ years to see this awesome musician. I was not disappointed. We drove in from out of town to be there. I'd go again if possible.
